N4 ownership transfer.... - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I received my nexus 4 about a week ago, and have been loving it ever since. Just the other day (I believe it was Thursday) I wake up and check my phone, and notice a dead pixel! So later that day I call Google inquiring about a RMA, but since I bought the device off of Swappa and was not the original owner, I could not get the RMA. I contacted the seller of my phone and he called Google, the lady on the phone/email told him that a "specialist" was working on my case, and this was two days ago. So basically what I'm asking, has anyone gone through something similar? Any ETA on when this specialist's work will be done?

It happened to me with a nexus 10 I got it from Craigslist but all they ask me was for the Original email that unit was bought it took like a week to get the replacement but they will put a hold on your Google wallet when they receive the device they release the founds sorry but English is not my language I hope it helps

Alright , I called Google again and they didn't know anything of it, is there anyway I can transfer ownership without involving the seller?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app

Be patient mine took like 3 weeks but it was my fault since I didn't call them for a week after they ignored me.they require some info about the original owner they asked for name email and order number the eBay seller I bought from was cool to give me the info. They contacted him I think to make sure if he OK with the transfer. Even if Google deny u RMA lg should cover you

Who do I contact to do this as I'd like to change my ownership too

You have to call Googles RMA number and they will redirect you to the RMA specialtists who will then contact you through email for the necessary info and then they'll send you a link to buy the RMA. The whole process to change ownership and buy the RMA took one day and the RMA shipped the next morning, overall it was a surprisingly smooth process.

The guy that sold me a nexus ignored all my communications. Google will not do anything to help you in this situation. They only transfer ownership of you have the original purchasers info.
I ended up sending it to LG for repair and had to go out and buy a GS3 as a temporary phone in the mean time. (~2 weeks to get your phone back from LG )

Can I RMA my nexus i got from Craigslist

i need to get a replacement nexus because this one has crazy heat issues. I bought it used off craigslist. Can i get a replacement??

If you got the bill. Sure.

No, warranty is non-transferable in normal circumstances. Call Google for clarification, though
It was purchased from a T-Mobile store if that matters

Why should it? If he owns the bill everything should be okay. Sold a phone once wich still was in warranty period. Just copied the Bill and everything was OK.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Might work that way in the US, but in the UK a warranty isn't always transferable regardless of having the original POP because the device is technically 2nd hand and most warranties state it's for the original purchase only - definitely that way for the company I work for. If the original owner registered the unit for warranty then you're screwed. If not, you might be able to get away with it
I live in the us. Any way to check online?

Yes you can...I had a similar issue...bought off craigslist...screen had major flicker issues....if you get a hold of the person who sold you the phone and have them give you the receipt..then you can RMA it only through LG because its from t-mobile...mine was bought from google so google has the RMA processed.
Ya bought one from kijiji Toronto on wondering the same thingHe bought his from the play store...
Okay so let me update this so i can get a better answer. The phone i am needing a replacement on is a phone i got from craigslist. i don't have the receipt but the phone had never been turned on before i was the one to open the box. I don't have the receipt for the phone. So please someone who had been through this before can you give me some insight

If you did not purchase the device from Google Play you'll have to contact LG for warranty service. http://www.lg.com/us/support-mobile/lg-LGE960
If its from T-Mobile call customer care and get a warranty exchange if your phone line has the the device warranty.

Got nexus 4 from eBay question?

So I got my nexus 4 from eBay it was sealed and is perfect no issues. My question is those that bought the phone from the play store got a certain letter. Does this letter register the phone with Google ? Is my phone registered by signing in or is there a step I need to take ?
sent from one of the NEXUS twins 4 or 7.....
What letter? There wasn't a letter included! Only paper is the receipt unless you're talking about the login when you first boot up the device. Should be able to just start it without any problems

Ahh that's just a Google play receipt. Now I see. Yes I obviously don't have it that shouldnt be a problem right? Phone is mint
No issues at all

Well no receipt no warranty as eBay won't be classed as proof of purchase even tho phone is in warranty
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
just have the seller transfer the warranty to you.
You still have the 1 year warranty from LG but not from google/play store. You have to contact LG for any warranty work. I have no idea if you need to register or not. I never registered the phone and was still able to get a warranty replacement but I bought from the play store.
I got mine from eBay when i tried to RMA they denied it first cause it was not purchased derectley from them then i claimed that it was a gift i contacted the eBay seller and he was able to transfer the ownership to me so its YMMV thingy good luck
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Can you describe how to do this warranty transfer? Guy from ebay said that he is going to give me delivery note from google play and this is enough for me to get warranty if needed.

How does the RMA process work?

I bought a slightly used Nexus 4 from a guy I bumped into yesterday morning. This afternoon, I wanted to flash a factory image (occam) but no matter what I do, my computer won't recognize my phone. This computer can see my Nexus 7 without a problem, but no go with the phone. The phone just charges.
I have uninstalled the adb devices, samsung and lg devices as well, all purged from the computer but nothing when I connect the N4.
Am I eligible to call in for an rma?
Sent from my GT-N7005 using xda premium
Call Google and see what they say. They will ask for the IMEI of the phone and the email address used when that phone was ordered. So you may need to bump into whoever sold you the phone again.

Oh yeah, and they send the RMA info to the email address used when the phone was ordered. So you'll probably need access to that.

I had a problem that was very similar. (Daughter board failure) and the guy that sold me the phone stopped answering and refused to communicate.
I ended up having to send the phone to LG for repair. It was covered by the manufacturer warranty, but I had to be without a nexus for 2 weeks. (LG refuses to send a phone pre emptively like Google.
That's one reason to avoid the gray market and stick to ordering from Google directly.
Your only hope is if the original owner bought it from Google and transfers the info over to you.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
You can get the warranty transferred from the original guy to you. My buddy had to do this, he bought a used one and it went bad. Just contact the guy and call the Google play store and tell them you want the warranty transferred. 3 days later you will get a new N4, then of course ship the old one back.
The seller is not responding to my text or call. So, my option is to send it in to LG for service repair. I have initiated a service request (ship it in) and have to wait for return authorization.
Will they refuse service if your Nexus 4 is unlocked?

Ok,lets try again. My Nexus 4 is bootloader unlocked. With a broken usb port, I don't have a way to relock it. No, it has supersu but no root binaries.
Is my n4 still returnable under LG service repair or will they throw a cow?

I don't know if lg will care about the bootloader or not, but there's an app in the play store that will relock it, iirc.

So, just received an email message from LG, states that in-warranty service must be go through the same place where you bought it. Only out of warranty service can be performed by LG.
How do you get LG to provide service on your nexus 4?
Sent from my GT-N7005 using xda premium
I think the out of warranty work they are referring to would be something like a cracked screen, which isn't covered under the standard warranty.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
so, a borked usb port on the phone is covered under warranty service but a cracked screen isn't??? makes no sense to me, but whatever. I'm just going to sell it on ebay. so sick of this non-sense.
LG sux. Eggs. One more reason to stay away from LG products. Never had problems with Samsung, ever. I had to get a Galaxy Nexus sent in to Samsung for warranty repair, actually it had a bad usb port, just like the N4, Samsung repaired it under warranty. Didn;t give me any problem. LG sux. Eggs. Another mental note--stay away from LG products.

[Q] RMA for the nexus 4

Is RMA like swapping out a faulty device for a new one through Google? How does it work? If my screen just one day doesn't turn on after having the phone for 6 months will they replace it for free? Do they send you a new device then you send your faulty one back? Or vice versa?

OK. In the UK, you ring Google Play, they send you an email with an RMA attachment and create a special order for you in your google wallet. You then order your new device and they take an authorisation on your card (they dont actually take the money, just "allocate" it to them, should you not return your faulty device), then they send you a new device and you send your old faulty one back to them within 21 days using their free TNT service that comes in the bag with your new replacement device.
So...
1) Ring google, they give you RMA attachment to print out
2) Order your device through the special order they have set up for you
3) Ensure you have a card with money on it so they can allocate it as security
4) When new device arrives, you have 21 days to return the old one to them (with the RMA you printed off in step 1) or they will take the allocated money off your card.
Hope it helps

No problem mate
EDIT: I should add that they will allocate the full cost of the handset until they receive the old one back. Then they will release that "hold" on that amount within 14 days (In reality they have released the hold on all three of my RMA devices before they even received the device back)
If you have got a cracked back for example, they will still exchange it, but they will bill you the cost of the smashed glass back.
Little chips and scratches they are not bothered about as the phones go to be refurbed, so as long as the back and front are "unsmashed" you will get all your money no sweat.

No, my USB port was acting faulty on the one I have now.
^ Fair enough.. I am shocked to see they are replacing the device even after 6 months of ownership to the customer. Seems like that 15 day return policy turned into 1 year return policy after their disastrous launch!

Replacement device

Has anyone received a replacement device after the 14 days, if so was it a new phone. My phone started acting up the night of the 14 days. I went to the store that morning and was told the phone would be mailed as a like new device due to the warranty and since the phone is only 2 weeks, a new device will be sent out. I know this is not true but wanted to check with you guys.
I have to say it is way to early to start getting refurbished phones. Maybe 2-3momths in.

It will be delivered today and will post my finding.
So it was a refurbished phone, so I called the store and asked my did they wast my time and theirs bow making if 3 days past the 14 day return policy. They apologized and said they will exchange for a new phone in the store.
No idea what you are saying with all of those autocorrect errors. Yikes. You might want to consider changing to a different keyboard...
But if they are going to replace in store, that is good.
