I want to purchase the Razr M but I can't find any information on it as far as durability goes. I don't want a phone I need to baby or put a huge outer-box on. I currently have a Droid X and I've dropped it hundreds of times, even in a toilet. It's had countless drinks spilled on it, underground sprinklers spray at it, and it's resided in water soaked pants and it still works. I have had to replace the digitizer twice and the LCD needs replacing but the phone is still going 3 years strong. Is the Droid Razr M durable and if I do manage to crack the screen, is it easily replaceable?
I've been eligible for a phone upgrade for a little over a year now but what has held me off is all new phones battery life and non swapable batteries. I feel absolutely helpless with a dead phone and I always carry a spare battery in my wallet. With the Razr M I won't be able to do that, so I need a godly battery. On a Friday I unplug my phone at 7AM and I need a phone that is going to still have a charge when I wake up Saturday morning in an obscure location. The Droid X does this fine with the 3700mAh battery I bought off eBay.

I don't know if the battery will be enough for you (it's a big battery, but still very small compared to a 3700mAh battery), but the phone does have Gorilla Glass on the screen, an aluminum frame (or at least the front side, anyway), and a Kevlar back, so it's probably pretty durable. I've dropped my Droid Pro a few times, and the screen is still in near perfect condition, so the Gorilla Glass definitely helps. They say it's splash resistant, too, though I have no idea what that actually means.
It looks pretty easy to take apart, though. Some website posted a tear down video, and it's really simple if you follow that. The only thing that sucks is that the entire front is fused together as one piece, so if you were to crack the frame or the glass over the screen (not likely to do either, but still), you have no option to replace just those parts. You have to replace the frame, the glass, and the screen.
Sounds to me like you should buy the Maxx or Maxx HD. Not many phones (if any) besides those will get you to Saturday morning with much usage, especially on LTE.
Honestly the Razr M is suuper durable, so much that putting a case on it would almost be pointless. i have had mine for almost a month and its been dropped out of my lap onto the ground multiple times and it still looks brand new like out of the box. As far as battery goes it defiantly doesn't have 3700 in it but what it does have can defiantly get you thru the day easy with a little help from the smart actions that it comes stock with. i highly reccomend this phone to anyone and i sold my S3 once i got the Razr M Hopefully this helps a little bit
Just upgraded to jellybean last night and still running off the same charge seems battery that was already good gets a little better was at 100% before the update and was off the charger the whole update.

+1 on the statement about not needing a case. It adds bulk which isn't needed. I've yet to see a scratch on mine. I do however have a screen protector on it because I put it in my pocket and don't want keys to get the best of it. The protector has a number of scratches on it. Don't know if the Gorilla Glass will get scratched but why tempt fate.
As for battery, I'm still running ICS and getting 1-2 days easily on a charge. I may also decide to get an HD MAXX but primarily for HDMI out, larger internal storage, and the larger, hi-res screen, not for the battery life.
I would wager that even the RAZR HD would get great battery life, but the larger screen will be a big factor.

Did it take a week or so to build up to that battery life? For me its getting better everyday definitely, but still not making it through the full day. I do use it somewhat heavily but nothing insane like hours of screen on time.

I was just wondering what your guys thoughts were on screen protects for this phone. I've used them on my last 2 devices, but I've read this phone is susposed to have supper tuff screen. I have a protector on now, but it really messes with the colors on the screen and I wanna take it off.
Anyone scratched the screen yet?
I will never use screen protectors again. After countless frustrations with them, like getting dust under the film or sticky feeling textures, I'm done. I love the way a glass screen feels.
I'm a pretty careful person. I never put my keys in the same pocket or drop the phone. So for me, no protection is just fine.
My moment, evo and epic all had zepp screen protectors. So what it's got a tougher screen, wouldn't you feel better you're protecting your investment? This phone wasn't cheap.

I've gone to best buy and had them put it on. My epic, the first one was messed up so they got another one. They've been trained to put these on. They've put many on. If there's a problem or one is messed up, they'll get another one. Yeah you pay for installation, but if they don't do a good job, they'll redo it. Try that yourself...

I have literally taken my keys and dared my friends to TRY and scratch my screen... as hard as we tried... couldn't make even the smallest scratch... took some balls to try it the first time by myself tho haha... once you realize how amazing this gorilla glass is you will feel sooo much better about it.

And they have better tools at their disposal than thee primitive ones that come in the package.
Another alternative, take the package and the phone to a good window tinting place. They know how to get it perfect. After they stop laughing at you for bringing in a phone...
Since it's such a pita to put those things on, let the pros do it.

I just had one put on by bestbuy today. I had previously used a zagg and installed it myself when I was a crackberry user. This time I said hell no im paying to get it done. It seems to have a slight effect on the way the capacitive buttons work(not as sensitive as before) but I had read that is a potential problem. Personally id rather have an ugly screen protector then a potentially permanent scratch on the screen...
Wait, you people put a screen protector that CAN be damaged on a screen that CAN'T be damaged? <facepalm>
Get Zagg sheild protector for the epic....their protectors are amazing
I got a clarivue on mine, it was easy to install, no watery mess, it uses static, and it is super clear and not noticeable. It doesn't affect the capacitive buttons on the bottom and the screen doesn't feel weird like those other protectors do.

RE
I initially bought the Sprint screen protector at the store on release day and had it on for a few days. Unfortunately, I wasn't very happy with the way the screen looked (even giving it 4 days or so to clear out).
I took it off and was amazed to have the normal screen back. It's been a few days since then and not a single inkling of a scratch on it.
I've got a clairvue and a realook screen protector in the mail right now and I just peeled off the generic protector I was using. I am gonna go with a naked screen until I get near my 30 day limit and see how it looks.
I dropped mine getting out of my car last week, it fell maybe a foot and it now has tiny scratches on the top and bottom but thankfully not on the display itself. Bought a screen protector the next day.
Here is the flow chart and a video to help you make your choice:

I love that video, which is why I didn't get a screen protector.
Mine did not survive unscathed a drop that was a fraction of what his did.
I know it is my fault, I'm the idiot that let it get dropped. I just want to let people know the Epic 4g is not as scratch-proof as that video leaves you to believe.
I've seen a couple drop test that show the screen does scratch from a 1 foot. I just HATE the sprint protector. I've had sheilds from ZAGG before and really liked them. I guess I"ll get another for this phone.
FYI: do not get the sprint screen protector.
1. It does not protect the entire front face, only the screen itself. EVEN though the reps will tell you it covers the entire front of the phone.
2. It really screws up the colors of the screen, white seems to be a bit of green/blue/red not a real white.
3. It makes the screen harder to see in sun light.
4. It sucks.
5. ?????
If you are in the edge or unsure if you should get a protector, get one from stealthguards.com for just 2.85 shipping and they are exactly like the zagg material. I ordered one for my epic and haven't got it yet but the one I got for my iPod works great.
I ordered a phantom skinz, I have a generic one on until it gets here. Rep told me it was a bad idea to cover the whole glass, because it could mess with the front facing camera. I covered as much as I could with it and it looks stupid only being partially covered. Hoping the skin gets here tomorrow.
got my ghost armor on order will have a review and pics up of it, had zagg on my hero and loved it. seems to be reports that ga is better so imma try them. dont use the front facing cam as i know one person who has qik and i dont talk to them much
I was stupid and had my phone in the same pocket as my keys. I did this for 2 years w/ my iphone 3g and it didn't have a single scratch on the screen. 1 week with this epic and there are micro scratches everywhere. Do not believe the hype about the screen durability, get a screen protector if u're going to put them in the same pocket w/ anything that might scratch it (keys, coins, etc).
What do you all prefer?

The silicone skins stretch out over time, are hard to get out of your pocket, but keep the phone from sliding around on slick surfaces like a car's dash.
The "flexible" (soft/hard silicone) case that VZW makes is what I have used. Feels nice, like the black/red look.

Right now I haven't had a case on it, due to needing to pull the battery (for various ROM flashing), and it doesn't fit with the case in my dock at work. Taking the VZW case off can be a pain to do if it's done a lot, so right now I'm case-less.
otterbox commuter case
Black silicone case from vw. Keeps safe from drops, evens out back so cam lens is protected and keeps screen protected when laying face down.
No case. I kept trying to get use to it and couldn't. I've given up and just resolve to being extremely careful.
I used to use a hard clear case, but then a month ago I took it off and haven't looked back xD Haha, the most common question I get about my phone is: "Didn't you used to have a case?"

I have the silicon vzw case but always seem to be taking it out of the case when I'm stationary (sitting down). I just love the feel of it without the case but it PAYS TO KEEP IT ON. I've dropped it a few times, with the case on (thank jeebus), and it just bounces around with little to no case damage. One time it actually bounced back up about two feet and I caught it so I'm inbetween I guess

Same here, I had an Invisible Shield, but it got all dented/gashed up thanks to my keys. (Yes I keep my Dinc with my keys ) And I had a hard case from day one but it doesn't stay on anymore because of how many times I had to take it off.
I also got a new 64GB iPod touch for christmas and got a cheap case that partially blocked the audio jack, so I never used the case. Without a screen protector, the glass holds up pretty well. As for the chrome back, well, thats a different story
I have an otterbox defender, seidio innocase active, sedio innocase surface and one of the snap on cases from VZW... but they sit nicely in my desk. I drop the phone all the time and don't have a single scratch on the screen, a few small nicks on the outside. It is too sexy to keep in a case.
I actually just took the case off my phone today and it's soo much smaller and the vibration feels odd.. I prefer the case over no case its just nicer feel for me.

The only thing I can imagine is that you must have dropped it on a pillow. The forum is full of posts on shattered Aria digitizer screens from drops of as little as 18". I have 2 Aria's, one working and a second for backup, and the backup is waiting now for another digitizer to arrive.
Other than that and no Flash, it's a great phone.

I've dropped mine several times on hard surfaces including asphault and the only damage it has is a little nick in the corner of the back cover. I've even dropped it in water, fully emersed and it never even got wet inside except some moisture under the screen that dried up. This little guy is going on 9 months old now Ans never had a single issue. Its a sturdy and very reliable little phone IMO.

It just works well
Coming from a HTC Fuze, I'm glad I did not give up on HTC. The Aria makes up for all of the glitches and freezes I experienced with the Fuze. My Aria simply works reliably, quickly, and without hassle - except for random bluetooth connection issues which may or may not be due to my Motorola earset.
My only beef with it is that the compactness comes at the price of text entry speed. It's still leaps better than T9, but well short of what's possible with a physical keypad, and a notch or two off of even the iPhone. But if I send 5 texts a day, that's heavy use for me, so this is hardly worth my worry.
No trouble after dropping it face down onto concrete with a vinyl/gel cover on it.
Considering it's a $0.01 upgrade (+ AT&T $18 fee) under contract extension at Amazon.com right now, more bang for the buck is hard to find.
This phone is great! only complaint is the size and no physical keyboard >.<
even so its better than the tilt2 i came from
I like the aria. It's fast, compact, and looks pretty.
I chose the aria because of its smaller size. I was coming from a motorola pebble so I didn't want anything gigantic. It even sports the same soft back as the pebble which is comforting.
There are, however, some things that I do not like about the phone. I don't like the antenna being built into the back cover; I feel that over time the contacts might wear out. Additionally, the back cover itself is annoying... It isn't as securely attached as I'd like; the glass around the top of the phone tends to lift up about 1mm from its protective back cover - something I noticed a few days after purchasing the phone. And lastly, I'm regretting buying a phone this small; I'm 6' so my hands are fairly large, it's a little hard to hold a phone this size without dropping it. An evo 4G would fit much better in my hand.
Having said that, I believe without a doubt that the screen will crack if you drop it onto contrete from waste high without a case for it. I have never dropped my phone though...
But I did go through a car accident with it (no case). When everything was all said and done I found my little aria under the brake peddle.. It was in my cup holder before. Not a single scratch on the screen - no idea how that happened.

My first phone to welcome me to the Android world and I said it did a great job, i also got a lot of help from the community here though >.<
I love my aria, only problem is battery life, but I keep it on the charger most of the time so there are no worries. When I turn my data off, it can go 24 hours without a charge without a problem.
I love this phone. It was my first Android and considering I was coming from WM 6.5 it was a huge upgrade. While I like the large screens of other androids I felt they were too bulky and opted for this one. Other than a few shortcomings (slower processor, smaller screen, and no flash mainly) the phone is great.
I'm thinking about buying a Nexus 4, but the only thing that's stopping me is that people say how easily the back glass breaks.
If you could provide any real life experiences, on how easily the back glass broke or it didn't, perhaps with or without the protection case.

Mine broke after two weeks, but if you get a crack it doesn't spread easily. Have some more cracks now after 4 months use, it's not the best design choice. Still, it's a ridiculously good buy and you can always change the back plate easily!

Did you use protection case? From what height did it fell?
I don't really think it fell, it just broke from pressure in my pocket. Probably had it mixed together with keys etc.
The important thing is, the screen doesn't get scratched at all, no matter how much abuse it gets. I bought an original bumper for it, but I found it to be unwieldy because it's already a big phone, so I don't really use it.

Put a dbrand sticker on it, it won't break that easily, or at least it won't show it.
Haven't broken the glass yet, the First 2 months I had the phone it was unprotected. In that time I had 1 scratch under the nexus logo and a few on the Gorilla Glass 2 front panel. After putting a case and a screen protector on it, I dropped the phone (accidently) around 4 times in the last few months
1st time was around the end of June.
I dropped the phone on a surface like this:

I dropped it from my hand around 3 feet above the surface.
It landed straight on the front. It had a Ringke Fusion Case and a screen protector installed.
There was no damage at all.
2nd Time I clearly remember I was shining in someones eye with the flash light (most of you probably know how bright it is),
her natural reaction was to hit the phone and it slid around 10 feet away, it still had the same case on.
The phone tossed a few times on the surface back and forth
No Damage.
I was really impressed.
I luckily never dropped it without a case.
I have no idea how the phone holds without a case.
I suggets putting at least a screen protector on it, because you will get scratches.
Not from keys or metal, but from sand. Also the back will get scratches as well if you don't protect it (Even faster as it isn't gorilla glass).
Well.. I've had the phone for less than 3 full days and already cracked the rear glass. Good thing I have insurance.. but it seems s7 is extremely fragile.
Phone dropped out of my pocket while sitting down. About 1 and 1/2 foot drop and hit the corner.. already cracked..

someone reported the same thing less than an hour after getting it. I feel they could have designed around that a bit better. Tempered glass always does terrible in corners. A couple of MM extra metal at the corners could probably save a bunch of phones.

i've got the rugged armor and it seems it should be fine, so i assume this would be ok too
This happens EVERY time a new phone is released. If anyone doesn't believe me, just go look at the other phones and you will see the same warnings when they were released. ALL of these kinds of phones are fragile to a certain degree. Anyone going without a good case is taking extra risk. Even a good case is no guarantee. Think of it this way, would you carry a laptop around without protection, drop it, and expect it not to eventually get damaged? When the next iPhone or S8 is released next year, other threads like this will show up early after their releases. If you drop it 2 inches or 2 feet...there is always a chance there will be damage. I don't think anyone drops it on purpose. That being the situation, I would think it would be a good move to put it in a case and at least improve the odds from the beginning.
I feel how it hurts. Can you post pics?
Mind you I have never broken a phone this early. And I've had lots phones without cases. Notably note4, LG g2, g3, gs3. All which I dropped many times.
I'll post pictures soon.

From this vid s7 edge looked like it shouldn't happen so easily https://youtu.be/GU8S_BjByKU maybe edge is more durable?
But it's not so bad and guy from video claims that back cover replacement costs ~30$ but anyway it's insurance problem. I wonder will water resistance still be present after such repair

An 18 inch drop did that?
I already opened a claim, I don't want any issues with waterproofing. But if Samsung repair says they can do it for cheaper I might go with that option.

Yep. I was sitting at dining table feeding my son. just slipped out of my pj pocket and hit the floor. That's why I'm surprised.

Thanks for posting. I'm definitely getting a case for it.
Isn't this what you people wanted? A premium feel at the expense of durability?
wow scary, first time ive heard of a phone ruined by being dropped now im definitely going to get a case and also place the phone inside 10 socks just in case

It's really not any more serious than chipping the paint or faux chrome on the edge bezels of previous Galaxy devices. I've owned the S3, S4 and S4 Mini. They look terrible after a year, even if you don't drop them. The S4 Mini is now over 2 years old and it's edge bezels look like the surface of the moon, and it's not from dropping it. That won't happen with the current generation of Galaxy devices.
At least the glass back on an S6 or S7 can be replaced to look like new. The edge bezels are part of the chassis. So, yeah, I'm fine with metal and glass.
i dropped my Xperia Z3 Compact a couple of times while standing, couple times onto wood floor, couple times onto tile. Never even scratched. Dropped it one day while at the pool onto this sort of uneven stone/sandstone kinda stuff from literally 2 or 3 INCHES, completely shattered the front glass. I mean total spiderweb destruction.
If just depends how you drop it and onto what surface.
Isn't it just bad luck either? I mean, I recently dropped my S6 and it also broke the glass (in the sense that the glass plate let loose and can now get dust under it). This was an innocent drop and it had falled quite a few times before already (before I was used to the slippery back of the thing) without any issues.
I've seen phones survive the most insane stuff only to get beaten by the bad luck of exactly hitting that part of the corner after a small drop.
Still sucks bigtime of course...
Lot of what's said is true. I still wonder how the waterproofing would be after repair.. of if the waterproofing would be OK with cracked glass.
I'm thinking the rear glass has no effect on the IP68 rating, when looking at the gs6 rear glass replacement video.
