Hello guys, just wondering if I am the only one experiencing this little bug: I've three accounts managed with the stock client to be updated each hour and if I check the accounts separately I can see and use the "update" button on the top right, while under the "combined view" there's always the rotating circle as if it is updating the mailbox forever.
Anybody can check & verify whether it's a common behavior or something wrong in my settings?
Thanks in advance.
...no one?
:crying:
I experienced the same...it's normal. Dont get worried

Thank you Suraj, now I feel better
I've highlighted it also in Android.com support page but with no answer to date. I'll live with it
Thanks again.
So it begs the question, now that 2 people have it... is this a bug? or a feature?
I have the same. But I think it's the matter of Jelly Bean since I have it also on my SGSIII - before JB multi-accounts worked fine on combined view

...a feature that makes the user think that the system is continuously updating even if not true? How would you call it? Misleading icon? :good:
clean recent apps list and it should stop. And dont need to press always that refresh button if you have made sync automatically. When you will get email you will get informed
...nope, it works only once. It only stops if I choose one single account from the dropdown list.
Moreover, if the setting check once per hour, if you turn on the device, say, @ 6:25, you'll get the first update @ 7:25. It's also for this reason that, if I want to check the emails just after the device turn on, I've to check each single account by pressing the famous icon.
Guys, have you tried k-9 mail or kaiten mail,if yes,i advise u to do,u will forget all things about stock mail completely, there are many options there , fully customized

hi,
I have problems with syncing my pop3/imap mail accounts. It does not automatically sync every hour. I have to do it manually. Sometimes, after 4 hours or so, it might or might not automatically sync.been struggling with it to be honest.
it syncs normally for a few hours then somehow it blocks out and only works by manual syncing .
What I tried:
- Deleteing the accounts and new setup
- fresh installation of ARHD 5.1.7 (with EXT4 script)
of course I haved checked the auto update box. I do not have any problems with manual syncing.
Do you have any ideas on how to get this over with ?
Thank you.
P.S , when i go to settings>accounts&sync>mail account , i have 3 email accounts setup and the sync time is always something like from when i last manually syncd it , unlike with weather and facebook , last sync time changes according to your preferences, but with mail its not.
I think the HTC mail app is FUBAR'd. My problem is with IMAP using their app. When I send something from the phone it's not saved to my 'sent items' folder, and when I delete a message, it comes right back at the next synch.
Not sure if it's an HTC problem or an Android problem, but if they expect to be taken seriously, it really needs to be fixed. I mean, really... email isn't exactly a new technology anymore where it should be confusing to anyone with HTC's or Google's experience and resources.
some peeps at android forums reported this too :
"Did a update to Gingerbread yesterday. I have a few imap accounts synced up with my phone which has been working perfectly.
Since the update, the phone won't check for emails after my off peak times even though its set to check every hour in off peak times. During peak, it does its job fine. Just not off peak.
Gmail is fine also."
as for the imap sent items , i didnt notice that yet (may be cos mainly i read mails lots and dont check what i send)
but for this syncing imap issue , its really serious and i never had it before with froyo.
would appreciate any help.
thx
confirmed issue , gingerbread htc mail off peak does NOT autoupdate
i can confirm this issue after gingerbread update.
i just realized after testing that my issues been related mainly due to not updating in off peak period ! even though its set up to hourly auto updates during the off peaks. really weird.
anyway to get through that ? its very important cos we r loosing a basic functionality of our phones
thx for any help , appreciated.
Hi,
I found I had the same problem with the HTC email app when I upgraded to a Gingerbread ROM (LeeDrOiD).
I was able to resolve the issue by deleting all five of my email accounts then manually adding each account again (three IMAP gmail, two POP hotmail).
Everything has worked since then (although I don't like how the unread count now relates to since you last used the app rather than actual amount of unread messages).
Hope this helps.
Oh, and I'm in the process of contacting HTC as I'm eager to find out exactly how the stock email app schedules its mail retrievals from the server.
I set mine for once a day but would like to know if that time can be set for 8am daily so that I get them in the morning before work.
I'll be sure to update you with any information I find.

cheers mate , would be great to hear HTC's feedback to u , keep us updated.
thx
jus to point out , i installed a froyo based rom , and everything was working , even the hotmail exchange sync (no deleted messege bug).
i started using k9 mail to avoid all those issues mentioned above , as i read that its the best 3rd party mail app.
but can someone show me how to set it to push with yahoo? normally it should push yahoo but for me it doesnt .
and for activesync hotmail, it doesnt connect at all , this is really frustrating , and i contacted HTC about this but they didnt reply !!!!
Bah. HTC gave me a generic reply explaining how to set up auto sync rather than giving any details about how it operates. Never mind.
pfff same here , their reply was nothing meant to be useful !!! generic stuff and not related to the issue! as if its a wifi or 3g connectivity issue , meh
same problem for me ..... after the update(gingerbread) ......
Need go setting ,receive , tick delete on service , and sync folder tick inbox and send, should fix it

think we will only need an update from HTC for this to be fixed , seen alot of other users complaining to several HTC mail (gingerbread) issues.
I have my Email app setup and I'm not using the gmail app. I get emails and it vibrates and makes a sound, the notification will show in the notification bar for 1-2 seconds max then will disappear. This happens allot but not all of the time. I have notifications enabled for my 4 accounts, like I said it shows sometimes and not for specific accounts.

This is a continuation of a thread I saw in T-Mobile. I am having this issue as well and I wish there was a fix!
Guess no one else has this issue?
Alrighty, Stu,...
We played this game regarding the forced closed Email app,...I'm going to wait and see what you find out regarding the email notification disappearing instead of trying to figure it out myself and realize you already found out the cause AFTER I spent the time figuring it out on my own,...
Won't fool me twice, sir!!
Nimitch the ball is in your court. I have no idea why the damn notifications show then disappear. Please figure it out and let me know. I am stumped!
same here on dissapearing
Anyone have any idea in how to solve this? This is driving me crazy
Yeah I have this issue also. Though it was just me.

I have the issue also. I installed the email and exchange apk's from the 4.4 dump and everything seems to be working well. Maybe it is just an issue with the Samsung email app. I would revert back if it gets fixed as I liked the Samsung app.

I dont know but this is absolutely driving me crazy.
Had the same problem with Samsung app, I think it was happening when you were getting mail on one account and new mail was coming to another. I switched to 4.4 and uninstalled the original samsung one. I love how every account in 4.4 has a separate notification area. I wish it had an option to disable multiple message stacking though.
Hi guys,
i've updated to KitKat from 4.3 on my Nexus and now i am not receiving new email sound notifications unless i open the app and mark all messages as read. This is my work account (exchange) and the issue is really annoying because my daily email flow is about 100 messages. Most require my attention right away and i have to turn the phone on and off every few minutes to see if new message is there.
i've tried re-adding the account, changed notification sound, updated to 4.4.1 and then to 4.4.2 but the issue is still there.
any suggestions?
device is complete stock.

I'm having the same issue here. Did not notice the issue on 4.4 or 4.4.1 but as soon as I updated to stock 4.4.2 the issue showed up. Sometimes the unread email will be there if I open the app but no notification sound or icon. I'm also getting delayed push emails randomly. It seems to work fine for an hour or two then no emails will show up unless I manually pull and I'll get a flood and e-mails will come in normally for a while.

i am still getting emails pushed, but no notification sounds...
any ideas how to fix this???
I tried wiping my device and flashing the factory image, issues remain.
Something I have noticed is that the second I open the Email application, the messages show up in the list .. of course no notifications.. Another behavior is that when the sync is configured with "Push" it is supposed to be realtime, and before KitKat, it was that way.. I'd get an alert on my phone the next second I received an email.. However, that also seems to be screwed up as well. I was hoping this 4.4.1 or 4.4.2 would resolve the issue but it didn't.
So I contacted google about this yesterday and the first few emails went nowhere. Then they transferred me to a 'specialist', here is their response:
Hello Brian,
Thank you for your response. Not being able to sync your emails through exchange is frustrating. I would be more than happy to assist you in syncing with the Exchange server. Unfortunately, at this time in order to sync with the Exchange server you need to access a third party app through 'Google Play'. In the future there may be updates to the Android OS that may allow for syncing with the Exchange server. Currently, Kitkat is unable to facilitate syncing with the Exchange server.
If you have any further questions, concerns or downloading a third party app does not resolve the issue please feel free to reply to this email or contact us at support.google.com.
Best Regards,
Valerie

WOW!
Will they pay for that third party application for us???
I remember how everybody was bashing Apple when their update broke exchange sync. But they fixed it quite fast.
Never thought i will see that approach from Google...
Very sad
anybody was able to fix the issue?
anyone?
still have this annoying issue!

Same here.. I really need a fix for this, I keep missing important messages
I think Google tweaked the email client to turn off notifications unless you open the app. If you get the first email, it will make a sound. If you don't open the app and check it, it will stop notifying you of further emails. I'm really not sure what the solution will be to this issue..
This is on my Nexus 5, but I have the same email client that the N4 does.
you can change that in settings :

That's a Gmail setting, we're referring to the native email app that handles Exchange accounts
For me not
It always works for me
try using the application of your email provider(f.e. if you have a microsoft account use outlook.com app). that is what i do and i don't have any problem anymore. if you like to have all your different accounts in one application i would suggest to find another application. droid mail and k9 mail are quite good as far as i know

It makes an audible beep every time you get a new email in the "Email" app even if you don't open the app every time? Are you on 4.4.2?

I use it for my Exchange account for work email, there's no other email provider client. I'll see if I can get droid mail or K9, but they're relatively expensive options for just this 1 issue.
Intermittently with the the Gmail app I will go hours without receiving any email notifications, and it often isn't until I get a notification on my iPad that I even think to check the phone to see emails from the day before! Apparently there's a bug report in the tracker, but I was wondering if there was any kind of workaround you guys have tried. This is a crippling bug for me.

I was having the same problem, but after performing a factory reset sync started working again. Then shortly after, I installed the January security update... no problems since.
I've had problems after the December update. Finally had to disable "battery optimization" for gmail. That fixed my sync issues. I got real irritated by getting email notification hours or even a day late

Under main settings go to battery, then in the 3 dots menu click "battery optimization" and then you will see a drop down arrow. Select all apps and then scroll down to gmail and turn of "optimization"
I might have to try the above. I wasn't able to use the phone much today, but when I came home, my PC showed 19 emails on Gmail. NONE of them appeared to sync on the app & I had no clue I had this many, or any for that matter. This has been a persistent issue for about a month or so.
The above settings didn't seem to do anything for me. I just got 20 emails in from 6am this morning until now. I wonder if using inbox by google produces the same issues.

Interesting. It's quite the annoying problem. I've had only 1 time with delayed notifications since turning off doze for gmail. I did read that it has not worked for some. I periodically turn airport mode on and then off.... At least once a day just to make sure I'm getting my messages
Guys its not about battery optimized..its about new gmail apk.either move to inbox by google or go.to settings of gmail under notifications sound vibrate etc u ll see notify in every message or u can choose once a day once a week or a month to take notifications.. U can thank me later ?

Thats not the actual problem though. Ive always had that box unchecked with all my phones because i would get a message (be alerted) deal with that message allowing gmail to then alert me of the next message.
All checking that box is gonna do is if Gmail fails to notify you of the 1st message but then trys once you receive the 2nd or 3rd etc you will be alerted.
Needless to say i am also having the problem.
Appears this is a known problem with Nexus devices (probably a combo of Nexus/Marshmallow)
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/nexus/Ayd_1TOemSE
Hopefully its only the app that needs tweaking and not the OS itself so we dont have to wait forever and a day for the update.

That's NOT the problem. Mine are checked for every message and I still had delays.... Until I turned off optimization. And even that hasn't 100% fixed it.
Turning off optimization also fixed it for me. It gets stuck in doze I think. Google still has some bugs to work out.

It's better than it used to be. But still doesn't refresh in doze at times. Lots of stuff breaks during doze it seems lol. Nice feature but buggy. Android will always have some new buggy feature though. Been that way since I joined Android in the eclair days.
Hi all,
Apologies if this is the wrong place to post this but u couldn't find a relevant forum... On my 6p my Gmail all is not pushing email notifications through to me live a they come. I am having to open the app up and then pull down to refresh the app and then they will all appear.
If I leave it long enough eventually they will all come through. For example the other day I left it too see what would happen on a weekend day and at around 4pm my email went from nothing to flooded with emails going back as far as 5am.
If I use inbox it works fine but I prefer the Gmail app. I have even gone to the lengths of factory resetting my phone to see if that helps but it didn't.
Does any one know a fix for this please? Thanks in advance for any help.

Try going to "App Notifications" and select "Priority"
For me, it needed to be whitelisted in the battery optimization menu. It seems like doze or app standby is killing the app.

I been noticing the same thing on my 6p looks like once you open Gmail it starts pushing after that.

Tried that and no change. The only push notifications are if I sign out and then sign in to another phone!
My Gmail (v6.01....) was working perfect until I updated to the lastest build (MHC19I), then Gmail stopped pushing notifications. I read on the google forums in the link posted above that reverting back to Gmail version 5.7... would fix this problem and it did. So, I turned off auto-updates for Gmail and will remain on version 5.7 until Google fixes this issue.
