See how the clock and nav menu are in the same black bar area? I like how tablet mode lets you adjust brightness easily from the clock. I have the latest version 4.1.1.
Is it possible to enable this mode?

Yes. The N7 has a blend of phone and tablet mode by default. It's called Phablet mode.
There are several ways to get tablet mode but they all involve rooting. One method is to change your DPI via your build.prop file. I don't recommend this method as it can potentially cause compatibility issues with Play Store and other apps.
Another method to get tablet mode is to flash a ROM that has it enabled, such as Paranoid Android.

Do you mean like this???? Root and run a custom ROM such a AOKP.

Yup, it runs a "phablet" UI, Phone UI with Tablet apps. This is because (probably) Google wanted the people who used Android phones to be familiar with the UI (since barely anyone used Android tablets before the N7, their market share was way too low ) But yeah, root and flash a ROM, I'll probably do the same soon.
If you change the DPI to 160 it runs a perfect tablet UI and no problems on my end with Rasbean Rom running at 160dpi. Not a big fan of the phablet ui and don't like the roms that run tablet mode at the stock dpi. Things are too crowded.
To me i like the notification bar at the the top..It keeps my from hitting it when typing.. VERY ANNOYING .
I dislike that most of the apps run in phone mode when they are compatible with tablet mode / split screen apps.So in my opinion google did not get the phablet mode complete. Its leaning to much toward a phone tablet.. The lock screen and main home screen should not have been locked in portrate mode ... The paranoid rom to me uses quite a bit more battery life . but its been a while since i used it ..Will try some of them again very soon..

The Paranoid ROM actually doesn't use more battery than any other ROM. It's the kernel that causes the battery to drain faster.
Try switching to Franco or Trinity kernel. I'm on Franco currently and the battery life is insane.

When I switched back to Phablet mode, the icons seemed really large to me since I was originally using 160 dpi. lolz

I've owned this for about a week and lovin it! I've already got it rooted! What ROM do you guys recommend that is stable? From what I've been reading, these ones seem to be popular:
- Code Name Android
- AOKP
- Paranoid Android
Also, kernel question, which kernels are good for the Nexus 7?
Has anyone noticed that it takes A LOOOONG TIME to charge your tablet?
Without a question AOKP.

As for kernel suggestions, you can't go wrong with Franco, Trinity, or Faux. I have tried each and they are all excellent. My personal favorite is Franco, though. It offers insane battery life with great performance.

[PATCH] True Tablet UI (Apps+GUI) w/o DPI Change for Stock & CM10 - Update Sep6
N7/R13
I used to have a galaxy tab 2 7.0 with ICS. It ran in tablet mode. I 100% agree with Google that the phablet split navbar/notification bar is much better for the 7 inch form factor. In portrait its not cramped anymore, and on landscape the nav buttons are moved out of the way so you don't accidentally press them while typing or gaming.
The problem is that this phablet mode seems unfinished. Too many apps run in single pane phone mode when they should be running in dual pane tablet more. This includes Google's own apps like the Settings panel, Google reader, YouTube, and so on. Also the launcher looks too much like phones. They should have done a bettrr job blending the phone launcher layout and the tablet launcher layout.
That's where Paranoid Android comes in. It let's me keep the (IMO) superior phablet UI and have dual pane settings and customize all the apps into whatever layout or size I want.

Using the charger it takes about 2.5 hours to charge my Nexus from 30% to 100%. Using USB while connected to the computer it takes all night.

Anyone else tried android market 3.1.3 on there Xoom?
It seems like go to google has resigned it to run on tablets. It runs so much better than the old version.
Download it from the link below
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/08/23/download-android-market-3-1-3-adds-1-for-apps-and-games-pin-number-for-purchases-and-more/
your link is messed.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...-and-games-pin-number-for-purchases-and-more/
I like it. I hope it fixes the various tablet market bugs.
Although this is a market update for the phone Android OS just like the past few updates, and not for the tablet OS... it seems to work pretty well and it looks decent on the Xoom. At least having the ability to comment and rate things is good to know that you can have just like normal.
The only real thing I see wrong is when you go into 'My Apps', clearly it is not optimized for larger screens. Aside from that, it operates just the same as the phone OS market. Clean, fast, and looks pretty good as well even on a larger screen. It's useable.
In conclusion, I uninstalled this after a very short test run out of curiosity. I would much rather keep the Honeycomb market app.
Well, I can say its definitely optimised for tablets. I'm guessing this will be the next version for tablets.
Here's a few reasons why.
Did you try the old mobile apk? The whole UI was blown up to fit the screen. Whereas this has. Dual panel setup you see in many Honeycomb apps.
You have a tablet specific section.
When you purchase an app you get a pop-up window to confirm your purchase. just like the original honeycomb version.
Yes I know My apps section looks like it needs work doing to it but I think it's Beta that got leaked.
To me it's a huge improvement from the the original honeycomb version.
I want to try it, but i have a completely stock Xoom, so my question is can i uninstall it with "Uninstall updates"?
Installing from the link in the second post did not upgrade my current market, it will install it additionally. I have both versions installed.
Works and looks great! I like the pin lock feature (wish all apps had that) and the ability to review.

I wouldn't doubt it if this was the next update for the tablet, after all... this design/setup was inspired from the tablet market anyways. The Honeycomb tablets started coming out and then then phone OS market got an entire UI revamp not long after that to match the new high quality market we got from Honeycomb. It's all a part of the puzzle that will ultimately unite the tablet and the phone as one with Ice Cream Sandwich. They will both end up sharing a similar or the same exact high quality market app when ICS debuts no doubt. Thus, you will be left with one market that works and scales correctly in high def on both devices. Looking forward to seeing that!
Funny thing though... people think that having one OS on both devices sounds like we are going backwards in technology, aka the iPhone and iPad are the same device in reality... one is just larger. But, that is not the case with Android and ICS. It will be a high def OS that works together on both phones and tablets, and will scale the same high def quality on all screen sizes. ICS will be a perfect OS with great high quality designed to unite both devices, instead of having a phone... and then an oversized phone that doesn't make calls.
Silly Apples... you can only get away with that junk for so long until the public starts to realize that they are being ripped off by trying to pass off a giant phone as a tablet. At least Android knows what it's doing with the introduction of Honeycomb back in February. The only devices that can truly be labeled as a tablet must be running a tablet specific OS in the first place... aka, Honeycomb. Otherwise, they are indeed known as a giant phone that does not make calls by default.
I said all that just because I wanted to think out loud... lol.

Dude, calm down. This CLEARLY has some tablet optimizations. There is a lot of two-column stuff going on, ActionBar support. It runs great on my phone and my tablet. This is exactly how ICS is going to work, and it is good to see Google doing this kind of development before ICS hits.

My opinion isn't wrong, sorry you feel that app is FULLY optimized for your xoom when it isn't. Yeah some features are looking good on the xoom but not all. The app is the same on my xoom and everyone else's. Unless you're asking that stupid question if we did anything other then install app, again. Only on xda do people think FULLY OPTIMIZED means some honeycomb features, obviously when anyone clicks on my apps you instantly can see this app isn't meant for honeycomb. This isn't an argument as anyone can clearly see that part of the app isn't correct

My Apps looks fine here. It doesn't integrate really with the rest of the market, but it looks fine.
But more important: the rest of the market is optimized. I don't see any part that looks wrong (only a search bar bug, but that's it).
Here are some comparison screenshots. You can definitely see the changes.

3.0.26 At the bottom

Hey guys, this looks interesting as I have the Htc Desire and my market on there has been replaced with one that look exactly like the pics that have been posted. I didn't update it manually it just changed.....is this right? My Desire has not been rooted or flashed in anyway. It shows build version 3.1.3
My Mrs has the Htc Desire too and her market as not changed.....
Also when I go on the marketplace on my XOOM and search for an app, the results may say 'found 50 Apps' but it doesn't display any where near that many...do I need to upgrade my marketplace...?
Thanks in Advance.....
I was expecting ICS was gonna be a huge difference on Note considering it's tablet and phone and ics is made with same motivation one os for both tablets and phones. I feel quite disapointed with first leak roms as you cannot even recognise it's brand new ics till u start surfing the menu. No goodies from ics at all except for the new settings menu and browser. I was expecting a Note specific touchwiz update with new ics upgrade to make most out of ics goodies. But new ics brings almost nothing new imao with old touchwiz interface which is basically same on all samsung android devices.
This isn't a nexus device.. why would it be any different from all other touchwiz devices?

Because it's between phones and tablets. I would just like to see a touchwiz interface specific to note to include more goodies from tablet side. Touchwiz on Note as it is now is basically the same with touchwiz on Gio which has less then half the screen size. Wouldn't be great if at least we had a choice to fit more columns making icons smaller to make the most out of our huge screens ?
^ you can, its called LCD density. Rom Toolbox is the only tool that worked for me on the china ICS leak. As far as 5 rows, use a different launcher. TW is lame anyway.
A leak is a leak is a leak. It's not a finished ROM yet. Complaining about something that is unfinished that it's not yet fully functional and polished is... well, totally ignorant.
Go use Nova Launcher. And TW is meant to be simple. And judging from the sales of Samsung devices, a lot of people like TW, so it was a smart decision to modify it a little bit for ICS. Go rant somewhere else or keep it to yourself.

Don't really think its necessary to flame the OP for expressing an opinion! I too would prefer a more tablet orientated ROM, to differentiate this device with its resolution from a regular phone, as it stands its more like a big phone than a small tablet. A landscape capable launcher and a browser that can be set to desktop UA would be a start. And yes, of course we could install another launcher or another browser but that's hardly the point is it? Missing potential it is.

It is still possible Samsung will modify TouchWiz. They may have been busy with more important stuff, like e.g. making certain S Pen -- it is after all a major selling point of Note -- works well on ICS. Just give it some time. If it is still half-useable when the final ROM is released then you're free to complain.
Guess what, I bought mine cause I needed a new phone...
So it's perfect ;P
What lead you guys to believe it would be anything other than tw with ics menu. Once you install nova or something it gets a little better.
I'm waiting for tablet mode myself. I do wish that Samsung would have gave us the option to run phone or tablet mode.

Agreed. As pretty as ICS looks on the Nexus I would probably end up getting bored and changing it anyways. But, what I do know is that this leak could mean the countdown to CM9 (Arguably, the greatest custom ROM) for the Note has begun. That makes me smile.
as i predicted many people *****ing about the first leaked ics builds, people expected and wanted too much from a first release, seems people dont have the patience these days to wait for a stable build as they expected ics to be amazing
this is why a build probably hasnt been leaked before because it is full of bugs still that samsung are working out
With all my respect i kindly request ops to lock this thread as the conversation gone far away from what i meant at first place. I didn't "*****"(!!) about the leaks. I didn't complaint about the stability or performance of the leaks either. My intention was just to express that i would rather prefer to see an upgraded touchwiz specific to galaxy note. For instance phone mode ui when used in portrait mode and tablet like ui when turned into landscape mode.
^ It is still perfectly possible. This is only a preliminary leaks, after all, and as I said Samsung has likely had much more important things to do than to update TW. Will they actually update it or not? I do not know, we'll just have to wait and see.

I never really liked SPB if I'm honest, Although that being said my favourite launcher so far has been Launcher 7.... So I guess my opinion doesn't matter.
In terms of ICS, All I expect is a better battery life and better performance.... From what I've heard from other devices they've all got this and it'd be great to see the note get even better through ICS.... I'm not a big Touchwiz fan so personally I prefer the stock ICS look but I guess ill just have to see....
Overall though, Its still a leak... more goodies when finished!!
And to everyone who flamed this thread.... We're all here together to try and help each other to improve our devices and our knowledge... Instead of "**** off" why not try and have a discussion on the matter... That way this community can do well
1. More free RAM and faster optimization (no lag at all).
Real project butter without Touchwiz decrease. Much more free RAM available.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKWWgJj3WSE
2. Settings, options and great interface.
Stock android roms have more options than Touchwiz. AOSP roms have a very huge number of options. Touchwiz interface is a failed clone of old gingerbread android interface.

3. No stupid over 50 system undeletables apps.
Touchwiz roms are full of unnecessary and useless apps (above 200MB-300MB). Many samsung services draining your battery very much. You cant delete Dropbox services it is integrated to your device with Touchwiz rom.
4. Great Lockscreen.
Touchwiz ripped great original customizable Android lockscreen.
5. Better notification panel.
Stock Android notification panel has more options, works smoother and faster.
But most importantly - you will get Android updates much faster, than TouchWiz roms.
And by the way S Pen in CM:

Much more?? I'm using 422mb with 1.3G free RAM, How much more can you have? Or how much more do you need?
(On a phone with 2G of RAM even if the ROM is using 900mb it's not an issue)
2. Settings, options and great interface.
Stock android roms have more options than Touchwiz. AOSP roms have a very huge number of options. Touchwiz interface is a failed clone of old gingerbread android interface.

AOSP don't have more options but different options. AOSP don't have all the motions, security, S-pen, voice controlled apps etc...
3. No stupid over 50 system undeletables apps.
Touchwiz roms are full of unnecessary and useless apps (above 200MB-300MB). Many samsung services draining your battery very much. You cant delete Dropbox services it is integrated to your device with Touchwiz rom.

I can agree with this one but why would you want to delete dropbox? My wife lost her S3 and thanks to Dropbox all her pictures where saved(just set it to run on wifi only)
4. Great Lockscreen.
Touchwiz ripped great original customizable Android lockscreen.

I don't think I will choose my ROM based on the lock screen
5. Better notification panel.
Stock Android notification panel has more options, works smoother and faster.

Man I hate this panel that takes all the screen and you have to tap the small button in the corner. The line up toggle style of TW is much more efficient.
But most importantly - you will get Android updates much faster, than TouchWiz roms.

CM? I thought you where talking about Original Android ROM
Five reasons why I love TouchWiz over stock Android
I know a lot of people prefer pure android, I guess I would too if I had a Nexus device. But I love so many features thanks to Touchwiz like the Spen functionality, and the page buddy for when I plug in my headphones. I also appreciate some of their widgets. I use Nova Launcher most of the time now though and I have to say... I still love it ^.^
I'd love stock Android as well. Stock is much nicer to look at.
But, good luck with:
S-Pen Support
100% Reliable RILD Communications
HDMI Support
All Share Cast Support
Reliable Bluetooth Support
Reliable Audio Support (People can't hear you, you're too quiet etc)
I mean no disrespect at all to the developers. The only reason those things don't work are because they're closed source and Samsung are less than helpful with getting them working properly.
I use the HDMI. I use all All Share Cast dongle. I have a bluetooth headset I use all the time and for business I can't be stuffing about with "Can you hear me? Can you hear me now?"
And really, RAM? That's a reason? The phone has 2GB, even with all the "bloatware" as people like to call it, it's got plenty of memory free.
The days of even needing root are nearly gone. I haven't rooted my phone, not because I don't know how, but because I really can't see the point. There's no compelling app that needs it anymore for me.
But yes, I agree with points 2-5. I wish the Note 2 had support for the above list items but without all the additional crap. That'd be perfect.
Go buy a nexus.

There's a bunch of apps I use on aosp called GMD Spen, rotate and gesture control that mimics the touchwiz features. Other than that I find the only thing missing that's worth mentioning is multiwindow feature.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
I'll give you my own custom cooked up rom with all the extra samsung useless bloat removed without touching any major core features. Then we'll talk about better battery life and less ram usage.
As soon as Halo PA Comes out....Goodbye Touch wiz, Right now the Multi window mode is my reason for not switching to an AOSP...Lets hope this best for HAlo

One reason I like, prefer and use TW ROMs over custom ones: FEATURES.
This is also the same reason (plus speed) why I use Nova Launcher Prime instead of the TW launcher (don't confuse the whole TW ROM with the TW launcher).

In most AOSP/CM based ROMs you can set it so swiping down the notification bar from one side of the screen brings notifications down by default, and the other side brings down this quick settings screen.
Also, a lot of the AOSP/CM based ROMs allow you to disable the quick settings screen and have normal power toggles in the notification drawer.
I'm more of a fan of quick settings, no need to scroll for options if you have more than 5 or so toggles like in stock touchwiz (which makes it less efficient), they all stay large enough to be easy to press (unlike if you use something like sf to put more toggles in without scrolling in touchwiz), and they're more customisable (a few AOSP/CM based ROMs have the option for custom toggles which you can set to do damn near anything)
i have a galaxy nexus and it's just boring. the holo look, no customization, no cool functions like touchwiz roms have.. a nexus running stock rom is just boring. a galaxy phone with stock rom is amazing. thats why i bought a note 2 and im completely satisfied with this one.

Below is my own personal summary review about this device, it is the most difficult for me to write about it as it is a mix in between the feel on this phone.
Screen - It is absolutely gorgeous! Never though it will be that great since this phone now only cost around RM 1k in Malaysia market now and it is local set warranty 32 GB edition. The screen do look yellowish in initial firmware but this issue no longer there after you upgrade the phone. I check back all review and all mentioned how accurate the color are, I don't have any tools to check the accuracy but it just simply please my eyes. Simply stunning color and clarity. It is Full HD but it is IPS, it is far than enough for 5.2" screen. Nothing to complain on the screen.
Performance - If I said this phone is extremely fast and can compare with S7 Edge then I am absolutely lying. It is not, for current market, the performance on this phone is good but not stunning. Mostly apps need around 2 to 4 seconds to open but UI animation wise I can said it is extremely smooth and no frame drops, just you need to accept it take 2 to 4 seconds to open an apps. No issue for playing any kind of games include heavy 3D games.
Multitasking - 2 GB RAM definitely not good enough for multitasking, most apps redraw after seat background for sometimes.
Design - I actually find it kind of pretty and the black color does't look plastic to me with nice finish.
Pure Android 7.0 Experience - Opening the camera is lagging and slow which took around 4 seconds with bad and lag on the camera that need around another 2 seconds to steady back, I really dislike the camera opening performance, overall UI performance is smooth. The split screen is really nice to use also, simple and support nearly all apps
Pure Android 7.1.1 Experience - This is still under development preview but I find it far better than Android 7.0, it finally solved the camera opening lag and slow issue, the camera is smooth opening now within 2 seconds or sometimes instant, the lag is completely gone. The overall UI is pretty smooth and overall feel much smoother than before. I definitely won't go back and I don't find any issue at all in this 1st 7.1.1 preview. The apps shortcut is really cool and fun to play, useful for certain apps for example camera and phone. Hope this get utilize by third party apps in future. I really like the Android 7.1.1 just too bad Google decide not include the awesome Pixel Launcher and Google Assistant. Lucky I can manually load the Pixel Launcher and it will be my permanent launcher in this Nexus 5x as it just simply the best launcher ever done by Google, simple, beauty and smooth everywhere. For Google Assistant wise I just left it for Google Pixel. Not intend to root just simply for that.
Camera - Now I know why previously Nexus 6p or 5x owner so please with the camera, the photo output quality is extremely great, I love it color which not too dull and not too vibrant, it just simply look nice and sharp but not over sharpening like S7 Edge which look fake. The focus also ok, not the faster but ok, at least it is faster than P9 Plus but surely can't compete with S7 Edge focusing speed. Night time photo also no issue, it look nice and they do have grain but the grain is nice color grain and well control in acceptable level. In short, the camera is simply gorgeous!
Loud Speaker - loud and clear, no distortion, just too bad not stereo.
Battery Life - in Android 7.0 sometimes it can last a day, in Android 7.1.1 I notice it always can last a day, but for more than a day is impossible. I am an average user and connecting to my Huawei watch all time except sleep time. It is ok but not as stunning as my previous phone Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and Huawei P9 Plus.
This phone is for you if you want to taste pure android with stunning screen, camera and cheap price.
My summary scores
Screen - 10/10
Performance - 7/10
Multitasking - 2/10
Design - 8/10
Pure Android 7.0 Experience - 7/10
Pure Android 7.1.1 Experience - 9/10
Camera - 9/10
Loud Speaker - 6/10
Battery Life - 6/10
Overall 7/10

The weather is functioning in latest Pixel Launcher from Play Store.
You just need to ask Google Now "show me weather now", and it will detect your weather and later it will automatically appear there.
great review, i must say totally agree with all you said, with rm1k the price for performance is great, 1malaysia :victory:

Hi, did you install latest Pixel Launcher where publish at Play Store? The one leak at XDA forum can't show weather, only the new release version at Play Store can.
You need to get it from others source as Play Store won't let you install if you not using Pixel Phone.

Would be nice if there was a widget you can use on any launcher that loads the weather. Weird that you can't find the shortcut

There is a way to do it I saw it a week or so ago. I believe it was in Google in settings find the feed option and turn it off. Then back on again and you should get weather in a little bit. Not immediately, but pretty quickly. If you can't find the method post back and I'll search for you. I just forgot exactly where I saw it. Maybe it was G+.
One of these things should work. http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...37597-weather-widget-home-screen-missing.html

They actually made an easy "Add to home screen" available now. Just Google search weather, tap the current weather for more detail, tap the burger menu in the top left corner, then you'll see this:

OP says in his wallpaper thread following:
What will be the impact on battery life after using these wallpapers?
It depends on the device and chipset, we cannot control battery drain completely as these wallpapers perform some heavy OpenGL task in the background. Snapdragon 835 is a battery efficient and powerful chipset so, these are perfect for Pixel 2/XL devices. If you are really concerned about the battery drain, please use All devices version as it is independent on the required library and hence less processing in the background. Although, some users experienced no battery drain and some have it. It is very uncertain and difficult to answer.
Working but why there is too much lag?
It really needs some good hardware so, don't expect them to be running smoothly on low end devices (like Snapdragon 400 and 600 series). If lagging in higher end devices (like Snapdragon 800 series) then, may be some GPU drivers issue. Please report with logcats or contact your ROM developer.
This question may dumb, but...
How to uninstall the already existing Pixel Launcher?

First, make sure you have TWRP backup > next install some lightweight launcher set it as default > download link2sd from play store > find pixel launcher in the app & uninstall it > Install pixel 2 launcher > uninstall that temporary launcher installed earlier.

Have you noticed it being heavy on the battery?
I've been switching between lawnchair and pixel 2 launcher (for like 7 days each) and it seems the idle drain on pixel is higher.

Maybe Lawnchair & Pixel consume less battery, I see a slightly additional drain on Nova & Pixel 2.
what exactly? umm, maybe dynamic notifications or notification dots?
