Hey hackers,
I need to pick a rom for my TF101. My tablet has been running a little slow and a little choppy, so I'm thinking it's the rom. I'm currently running cm10. I'm thinking Revolver or Revolution would be the best for performance and speed - would one of these be a good choice?

Well ive flashed them all lol and CM10 is by a long way the fastest (equal with JB AOSP but more stable) both Revolver and Revolution are about the same as far performance goes, I prefer Revolver for ICS roms but is still much less performance the cm10. Ive found CM10 to be a little choppy with the stock launcher, Apex is much better might be worth trying that before flashing another rom.
Thanks for the tip about the launcher and other roms. Tried apex - it was awful, actually I'll let you know what happens with some other roms.
Revolver ICS runs great but CM10 is improving everyday.

Which CM10 rom are you running? There's a few out now and not all run the same. If it's the RaymanFX CM10 then I'd be suprised you're having performance issues.
Speaking of which, did you overclock at all? A little boost to the CPU speed can make a world of difference. Depending on your tablet, however, you may experience some crashing if you push it too hard. 1.2 to 1.4 GHz seems to be the sweet spot for most people.
AnTuTu CPU Master (Free) is what I use. I've set it to 1600Mhz with smartassV2 scaling and the sio I/O scheduler. My tablet reacts to overclocking very well though so your mileage may vary.

There's your problem with cm10 lol you need to give RaymanFX's cm10 a try. Ive gone from Revolver to RaymanFX's cm10 and the performance increase is amazing.
Is the download link up? I only see the kernel. Do i need to flash the kernel separately? I'm a little confused.

Yeah heres the link: (http://goo.im/devs/RaymanFX/downloads/CyanogenMod-10/cm_tf101-b2.zip) it comes with a kernel but you can alternatively flash the K.A.T kernel that fixes a few issues with JB roms, I haven't tho

So many to choose from and i don't have any experience other then Virtuous Picasso 1.1.0. that is the only one i've flashed. Does it hurt your tabby installing new roms constantly over and over again. Just seems like something at some point would get corrupted or something. I don't know.....lol This is very new to me.
What rom is everyone using.
I was wondering the excact same thing, maybe everyone's waiting for an acer 3.2 update.I'm on virtuous picasso 1.1 also,I was hoping for a vp update as that rom seems pretty good so far.Anyone know when we'll see anything as good or are there better that you guys use like taboonay, etc? Thanks.
you will ALWAYS get different answers to this question. It all depends on how you use your tablet. Your best option is try them out and see for yourself. Load the ROM use it for a day try a kernel see what fits your needs, don't rely on other peoples answers.

Hey question for you since your using the same rom. Does your Tablet turn off at night by itself. I used my tablet all day and at night I charge it while i sleep. When i wake up in the middle of the night i unplug the tabby if the power button is white meaning peak charge and then go back to sleep. when i get up in the morning the tablet is turned completely off and the battery is around 90%.........i don't get it. does yours do this?
I'm on Taboonay and loving it...
Currently using Taboonay 3 and richardtrip's 3.3 kernel.
Loving the speed and stability. Good power usage despite being OC'd to 1.5ghz. Had to apply patches to get Netflix going and still having ALL cameras intact.
Needed alt wpa supplicant file to enable adhoc networking...
... But yeah. Good ROM. I'd highly recommend it.
Some people were having issurs with the install, but I followed the instructions CAREFULLY and had zero issues...
Good luck!

so how do you install a kernel? Do i go through the same process wipe all, flash taboonay 2.0 rom reboot into recovery and then just flash the new kernel the sameway i flashed the rom without the wipe and stuff?
I'm running Taboonay and richardtrips kernel but I found that when I intstalled the latest version youtube wouldn't work. So i reinsatlled the earlier version of the kernel and now youtube works fine. Bit starnge but a few others had the same problem. I'm also haveing problems with the keyboatrd on the site here. No matter which keyboa$d i use the back/delete button doesn't work hence all the typos here
Not sureif this is a kernel/rom/site issue?
Taboonay 2.0 using richardtrips 3.4 kernel (3.4 addressed h.264 playback and overclocking stability)
stock 3.1
Rooted via IconiaRoot - Richardtrip's kernel installed - max cpu set to 1504, min 256 - switch my Setcpu app between "ondemand" (when i have plenty of battery) and "conservative" (when my battery is low).
is taboonay built on original iconia stock or some other rom? or total original honeycomb (if there's a such a thing)

I recently flashed the newest Trinity Kernel on my Nexus 7. I still have the stock ROM. I tried to tweak the CPU settings with ROM Toolbox and the most I can overclock is 1400mhz. Why can't I overclock to 1600? Is it because of the stock ROM? I'm looking into Glazed Jelly Bean as a custom ROM but I'm not sure I want or need to use a custom ROM at this point.
Any suggestions?
Because he dropped the Max. You probably flashed A111 correct? That's a TSVZ meaning it is slightly over clocked and undervolted kernel meant for battery not for performance.

Nice, ill have to look into rooting sometime soon.
Ok, I got the a96 and I've flashed it...
Is there a detailed changelog for each version? The a111 said it was a 1600mhz kernel so I don't understand why it was dropped down to 1400. That's where my confusion was.
I did notice some increase in speed at 1400. I was having some stuttering issues with Dead Trigger and Minecraft PE, and they were less with the 1400. I've got it running at 1600 now but I don't know what it will do to the battery or how well it will perform. I'll find out later. I've run through the battery pretty quickly today, but I was tinkering with it A LOT so it's not accurate.
What kind of tweaks could I do using Rom Toolbox that would help me maximize my battery while overclocking to 1.6?
Dont over clock.. i dont even see a need to. I use the ondemand gov which stutters a little but using interactive clears that up. Also using the CFQ IO as it is the stock IO used. Its stock so its gotta be good . Also you should turn F-Sync off that helps quite a bit. Also you could toggle auto hotplug and make it only run two cores while gaming and then turn it back on when finished so that way it will hotplug cores as it sees necessary. You could also up the voltages a little bit, some CPU's dont like the lower voltage and that will cause stuttering and glitching just up them by 25mV and see if it clears if not try another 25mV.
I will try those things, but I really want to play with overclocking and learn what happens. This is my first Android device so I'm experimenting and playing around.
But I have one more question...I've overclocked to 1.5...I found 1.6 to be the same as 1.5. But it seems that after an hour or so, it resets to 1.3. in ROMToolbox. Why is this?
Don't use rom toolbox. Use the Trinity app. It sticks just fine for me. Besides you support the dev to make better kernels.

Overclocking past 1.4 Ghz doesn't result in any major usability improvements. I've gone up to 1.7 Ghz and the only thing it does is make my tablet really warm and unstable. All you really need for improving system performance is I/O tweaks to speed up app and page loading, and a little bit of GPU overclocking to help with the transitional effects.
and, to be honest, depending which trinity kernel im using, im using either 1100 or 1150mhz mostly. on a111 im using 1100mhz and on a96 i used 1150mhz. with those speeds everything is still fast but a bit better on battery
Overclocking
If you want a little more information about the the overclocking if you havent already you might want to check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788759 its the official thread of the trinity kernel for grouper.

No lag what so ever anywhere on this tablet now. I have made it lag by copying a movie, playing music and trying to browse the web. Pages lag a little bit but once they load its smooth and we all know that its the cheap internal card. just remember to flash Unt kernel, latest is NOT in OP but one of the last pages.
I just installed JB overlock edition and it got better scores than CleanRom with unt's kernel :S for me.
Quadrant scores:
JB oc edition V2 (overclocked to 1.66ghz): total:6087 CPU: 15120 Mem: 3188 I/O: 9233 2D: 273 3D: 2622

Hope I helped someone that can't decide what Rom he want's to install.
Why are there so many votes for the stock ROM? Is it that good? Seems like it's pretty easy to unlock the tablet and then load a custom ROM on. Any input would be appreciated.
boggles the mind don't it? I guess people are happy with Stock until they can use CM/AOKP
Very strange. Just loaded CleanROM. It's always tough to say what ROM to go with. CleanROM is nice, but I have to install the others to compare, I suppose. I wish there was a good pro/cons list of each ROM.

ROM is independent from your overclocking capabilities. It is the kernel that allows you to overclock.

Have you tried RaymanFX's CM10, he's calling it stable(ish) and I think it supports overclocking out-the-box. I found EOS 3 nightly (build 81) the best for me, as it was the only JB ROM that gTalk worked in. However I just found any JB ROM not stable / responsive enough. Browser crashes now and again, Firefox was stable though LOL.
I went back to ICS and still can't decide on EOS 2 or Megatron 1.1.6. They both are ultra stable but have annoying artifacts when widgets are in use. Apparently stock is still got some issues for some, so it seems HoneyComb is the only 100% solution
Has anybody got a good stable ROM without artifacts? Stock has no artifacts but I want a low bloat MOD, preferably AOSP based.
Elite or K.A.T.
Elite is working very well for me.
You can also try K.A.T. kernel
Both will give you full satisfaction for sure :highfive:
EOS nightly (build 81) suits for me. Put cpu speed on a save 1200 mhz with AnTuTu CPU master. Stable, fast, smooth. No isues so far.

For some reason my phone (also i9023) can only handle 1320mhz OC.
Other steps (1200, 1400, 1096, etc..) cause reboots.
Try using matrix cfs then OC to 1320mhz.
Or marmite 7.2.1, increase all voltages by +25mv then OC to 1320mhz.

My phone easily handles 1200mhz... 1320mhz works well too but under heavy load I'll get a reboot... 1400mhz def needs raised voltages... I've clocked that high before but I don't think the phone runs as smooth at that setting... Might be too much for the processor... This was using various kernels... +1 for that! same setup same experience.
running liveoc at 110% only on 1.0Ghz step with +25mv over the default voltage. running smooth!

Same with my i9023, 1320mhz works great on my setup of CM 10,1, Matrix 7.2.3 kernel. Stock voltages.
I've been trying for a long time to find truly stable voltages for either 1096 (marmite) or 1200 (air kernel), but irrespective of my mVs I can never get beyond two days of uptime before I experience a freeze. All overclocks seem to work at the default volts set by each developer but there's this latent instability I can't do anything about. Starting to think this is just the nature of the beast and very few NS users actually have CPUs capable of long-term OC stability.
Still, a few extra FPS in the launcher and a slightly smoother Temple Run probably don't justify an OC anyway.
i use marmite overclock 1-2 days ...all ok here
I can run [email protected] for as long as I want. Even 1320 with 25 volts increased. Never had issues.

Well dang.
Maybe I just have an anaemic ARM chip.
That being said, I've really only ever experienced the symptoms of an unstable overclock when my battery's been close to empty. I suppose that might cause the voltage to dip and my phone to freeze. Might try 1096 again using 7.3.
