Hi guys i got the nexus 7 delivered from staples last week. today I noticed the "screen flex issue" . Pinching together the screen and the back of the tablet causes it in one corner. I also happens if I slightly press on the screen. Just wanted to know if anyone else is facing it.
..
Screen Flex/ Ripples
Sorry for Bumping the Thread . But can some of you guys please check pressing the screen around the cornder and see if you notice any screen flex or ripples??
I am not sure whether i should return it. If is a very common issue ther no point in returning. right?
Please help.
Here's the deal. Way too many people are making an effort to search for "problems" with their tablets. It's almost to the point where it's pandemic. Every little thing is getting scrutinized. If you cleared the forum of complaints and questions about whether someone has a bad tablet this place would be a ghost town.
Use your own judgment. If the screen "issue" bothers you then return it.

So far, according to the straw poll linked below, about 50% of people who have responded to the poll have the screen lift issue.

Hi according to me something i paid my money for shouldnt come OOTB with issues . But I so badly love it. if most of the devices have this issue, even if i exchange it i will still end up with one having the issue. right?
That is why i am trying to know. If if isnt a common issue i will return it.
Plz vote and reply guys . Also if there is any fix , please mention it as well.
Thanks

My finances mom's does this in the bottom right corner. But its also only noticeable with high brightness on black/dark grey screen. Also if she moves her headphone plug around while in the n7 it makes ripples the exact size and length of the plug.

This poll is an attempt to quantify the precise type of known faults found on the Nexus 7
Mods have kindly agreed to make this a sticky.
The hope is that this poll will help newcomers to the forum see immediately that their fault is a known issue and that they are not alone.
If you see anyone posting in the Nexus 7 forums with a fault with their new device please point them to this poll.
Hopefully in a month or two there will be some useful data on the type and frequency of faults.
Accurate figures may help people make a decision as to whether to buy a device and may help with people's warranty claims.
I had to ask a mod to clean up this thread because of the eejit trolls.
Less than three hours later and we have another troll too thick to read the poll and vote accordingly. Or not as the case may be.
PLEASE read this post and the post below BEFORE asking can X be added or why isn't Y an option.
I am unable to add any other options to the poll and I don't want to mither a mod to do it.
The questions are there. If they do not apply to you don't vote, don't ask for the poll to be changed, move on.
If you are having issues with your Nexus7, please indicate what they are by filling out the poll - there is no need for people to comment or start complaining, that's not what this thread is for and there are plenty of other places where you can post to express your unhappiness.
If you're fortunate enough not to be having any problems with your Nexus7 then there's no need for you to get involved with this thread at all.
The poll does not now and never will have a 'None of the above' option because that is not it's intended purpose and because that is not it's purpose, there is no reason for you to post in this thread either.

Whilst not perfect, the numbers are indicative that the N7s weak spot is the screen.
This topic made me realize that I didn't check if the headphone jack is working...thanks! :good:
you should probably add improperly calibrated colors
No Problem Option?
I have had my N7 for amost 2 weeks now and am yet to fault with my device, maybe i am lucky (touch wood)?
the poll is missing 2 categories:
- white fog/bleeding
- screen ghosting
after 7 days of very light use (maybe total 2hr surfing) the lcd all the sudden turned white, started flickering and has massive ghosting.
it sometimes gets better a bit after 2-3min of screen-on time, but as soon as the screen is switched off/on again, the white fog reappears.
running stock software.

No. All essential categories are present.

I just got my Nexus 7 replaced.
The issue I had with it was a battery issue... had a faulty battery.

I have the same problem too. I also have some black slant lines on screen.
I think it's important to add to the OP that before one votes, they should have a couple of days of heavy usage. What I mean by heavy usage is having used it enough to the point where it literally gets hot, not just once but a good number of times. This seems to cause screen lift/looseness rather quickly. I'm on my second Nexus 7, and in 10 days, I already have screen lift and creaks.
Also, does anyone have a link to the newest revisions? Or is C9O still the latest? Maybe we should also create an accurate list.

I have a C80 and been beating mine around for a couple weeks now, including overclocking it (unnecessarily) and playing intense video games. It also has been bumping along in my bicycle pannier. I'm not even sure what you are talking about, is the glass coming out of the metal strip or is the entire metal strip lifting up. My glass is actually slightly below the level of the metal all around and no sign of any movement whatsoever.
On the other hand, my wifi is rather questionable. It has dropped off a few times even when I am close to the router. At other times it seems to be working great, but I don't think it connects to wifi as well as my cell phone.

I was having an issue with auto-brightness. Which I believe is on by default, but I turned off at some point to see how bright/dim the screen would go.
When I turned auto-brightness on again, the screen went completely black (i.e. 0 brightness) even in a fully lit room. This happened a couple of times, so it wasn't just a fluke.
Obviously I thought the screen had turned off so hit the power button to turn the screen back on, but inadvertently locking it. Touch was still fully working, and navigating to the brightness setting without a screen to reset it was _not_ fun.
I have a C70 Nexus 7, it was working greatly with no issues when i un-boxed it, and continued to do so for a month. Yesterday when i tried to play some videos through the speaker, i realized the speaker had blown out (aka. Crackling speaker). Going to try to talk to support to see what they can do, especially since i'm outside US.
Hello. C90 here and a slight but perceivable screen lift on the left. So, no improvement in the quality assurance department in the last few months.
my nexus blocked in the "oppen apps" menu i tryed to turn it off and i cant... what should i do can anyone help?
Thanks for the thread, it helped checking some things. My N7 has none of them, but often (every 20-30 minutes) freezes+restarts, I hope it's just software problem and if I get this list here right then it's most likely is(?)
Or is it a common N7 hardware fault which causes often freeze/restart (mostly with flickering white stripes all over the screen before the restart)? Googled but didn't find many threads related to that, just solutions how to restart.

I've ordered one and I'm looking around here and.. what happens with this tablet? 90% of them have an important screen / battery / software problem?
I am REALLY scared of what I am receiving after reading this section...
Don't be, the number of people on XDA are but a small percentage of those that purchase the tablet.
I bought mine very early on, my friend bought his just recently from a completely different retailer and he has no issues.
If you read enough and look hard enough, you may convince yourself something is wrong with your tablet when there may not be.
So get your device, enjoy using it, and is there something really wrong with it if when using it, everything is working as it should?
nope, i LOVE my N7! i use it almost everyday...more so than my acer iconia 10". the N7 is fast, light, and screen is awesome. the ONLY thing i dont like is the non-standard charging "mechanism" that it uses. i hate not being able to just grab a normal micro usb cord and charger and just charging it. other than that...no complaints.
Quality is great.
Go for it!
I've had mine since day one and no problems at all. Not only that, but I've installed it in the dash of my car and it's held up great.
No its no bad. There are defective devices out there. But the quality is not bad f you get a working one. That sorta contradicts its self but you know what i mean.

When you have 1% of devices that could potentially be lemons... coupled with the fact a substantial amount of that 1% are XDA members... it's easy for a device to look bad when in the grand scheme of things, it's not. Don't get me wrong, I'm not exactly a non-frustrated user. My screen magically cracked today somewhere between me holding it at the kitchen counter vs walking to my car, yet I never dropped it. That doesn't deter me away from buying another one since after all, mine was from the first gen batch, which if an issue is going to exist... it'll be there.
if you picky about minor issue, i think you should wait till at least October to be sure the problem is fixed. My has a minor screen lifted and there is a little static noise when turn the screen on/off. Other than that, it a good tablet. Yeah go for it.
Screen lift is ridiculously common, but that's the only really popular issue. Fortunately, there are flush screens out there, and it's not guaranteed to be a serious problem down the road even if you do get one that's a little loose on the left side.
Although there are fewer reports of lift in C8 units, the underlying cause has not been addressed. There was a big thread about this earlier today.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1856203
I had three units with screen lift and was unwilling to tolerate it, so now I'm waiting to repurchase until they get this cleared up. If you read through the first two pages of that thread you'll find that I asked the first person who claimed to have a flush C8 unit for photo verification, and that photo revealed screen lift. That was disappointing. I was hoping these newer ones with updated packaging were mostly fixed.
Most people who claim to have flush screens haven't actually checked, but that says something about how minor it usually is. Since you ordered from the Play store, you won't have to deal with ASUS if the worst case scenario happens (a cracked screen), and a hair of separation shouldn't prevent you from enjoying an otherwise great device, so long as you're confident in the warranty.
It really is a great tablet. I wish I'd kept my second unit from the Play store, the one with the least separation, because I really enjoyed having it.

Well, keep in mind that when people who are not XDA regulars have a problem they hit up Google and XDA links are generally on the top of the list for ANY Android device, so they come here to ask and/or complain about it. Then you have XDA regulars who tend to be techie types who are VERY picky about having perfection in their toys. So things the average Joe wouldn't even know is a problem can come across like its the end of the world. Finally, as many point out, you only see the problems because people don't generally come here to post "everything's fine" unless they are being snarky (like a thread I posted a while back) or just that rare person who does that sort of thing...usually as a counter balance to all the negative posts.

It's like if you visit a new country and the first thing you do is walk into a hospital... "what's wrong with this country? Everyone here is sick."
This forum is where the few people who have problems gather to discuss them, and they are a very small percentage of Nexus 7 owners. It's just that people for whom the device is working fine don't post every day and talk about their experience, while people having problems do.
Okay, thank you everyone for your replies!
It's a shame but I think what you say is true: even if this is a hi-grade tecnology forum, only the people with problems talk and talk about them, while the people without problems only reply them maybe some times and never talks about that anymore.
Anyway, I kinda hate when you guys say "Mine is ok! only the left side is a bit loose", "Its great! only the screen fails after 2h of use", "Its amazing, yet the screen cracks everytime time I touch it on this sire.."
250~$ is not enough to expect a FULL QUALITY DEVICE? I owned an iPad and a Galaxy Tab and I had never had to expect or to suffer a minor problem, and you're talking about really important screen problems (a curved / loosing side / cracking side / etc. screen has A LOT of more % of cracking, or getting dead pixels, or having another problems).
I honestly don't understand that mentallity. We are not talking about a 5$ device (and even there we could have a discussion), ¡¡its more than 250 dollars!!
I think that if this problems happen is because people accepts it like that.

90% of people in threads whining about issues have a problem. Not anywhere close to 90% of the tablets have an issue.
How many other people are going to read a thread about defects other than the ones with defects?

Hello XDA. Let me tell you a sad story!
Last Monday (6 days ago) I got my nexus 7 16gb.
Before i received it I read a lot about the defect issues in the device first thing I did was check for screen lift there's a tiny bit but not enough to incline me to return it. Today I was outside playing music when I was playing basketball when I came back to it after a little bit of shooting I saw there were 2 cracks on the screen. Nothing fell on it so I think it was self inflicted by the device. Both of them on the left side. One is on the bottom left of the screen and goes through the bezel to the edge of the device. The other 1 is 3 quarters up from the bottom of the screen. To me this sounds like a screen lift injury because both are on the left side which is where the lift is. I read on other threads that some people screens cracked from screen lift.
I was wondering what your thoughts are in when I should do in this situation? Will Google accept it as a defect?

If it is little, I don't think so. I've seen some at Walmart that are a whole millimeter out with no cracks

The answer is yes, although I don't think it's very high risk.
Mostly, I would advise you to read the following thread, which is currently active in General.
Nexus 7 screen cracks easily
That thread contains many posts by a user named JaSauders, who managed to convince ASUS to replace his screen under warranty. Others have not had such luck, but he was persistent.
Here is the thread where he first reported the crack.
Ahh, yes. Monday... beginning of the week. Oh! And the screen on my Nexus 7 cracked.
And here are some other reports.
Cracked screen... will ASUS fix it?
The "it's broken already" thread
You're the first Play store customer whose glass cracked due to lift that I've encountered. Best of luck, and please let us know how it goes.

You won't be able to find another one of these by a Play store customer.
At the very least let's wait and hear about their policy.
Hello everyone.
I have notice a problem with my nexus 4.
It's like it's a dent under the screen that's only visible when light is reflected on it. And it's only visible from the side.
I'm really confused because its not really affecting the screen when it's on and dosent seem to cause any problems.
I've found a video on YouTube were a guy filmed how nexus to show how it looks.
He has he's phone up side down sp you have to look at the top off his screen on the video. It's most visible at the end of the video.
Can you guys please look at the video and after at your phones and look if you have the same problem.

Even if you don't see it, please write and let me know.
Replacement
I don't see the problem, but I'd definitely call Google and explain what's going on. I bet they will send you a replacement.

Okay. But I live in Sweden so I can't really call Google. But I will try to go to the store where I bought the phone to get a new phone.
But the thing is that I do think that many people have this but haven't noticed it. I mean, it's really hard to see. But now that I know it's there. I see it all the time when the screen is off and when the light hits the screen.

I have this too, top left corner, you can only see it when the light hits it at a certain angle. The thing is the screen is unaffected by it so i'm tempted just to ignore it as the rest of the phone is perfect :good:
Okay. It seems like I'm not alone at least. You haven't noticed any trouble with the phone?
It's been a little more than 2 weeks that i've got my OnePlus 5 and i just noticed something today.
Does any of you guys have noticed any difference between the right and left Backlight ? The right one seems less brighter than the left one for me.
I'm usually not the type of guys who's constantly searching any little defect, not at all. It's a really small detail (why I didn't saw it till now ?) but it's still not normal for a brand new phone.
Maybe I'm the only one, just curious about that.
Since I'm the type of guys who want a perfect product I'm also considering returning the product for repairing or maybe replacement depending on their solution. But first, will it be a real reason to them to demand a repairing ?
Thanks for reading all this :good:
