After not getting gingerbread on the vibrant (the only galaxy s1 variant that didn't), it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't update this variant of the gs2 beyond ICS just to keep the streak alive of not fully supporting updates for Samsung phones on T-Mobile.

Exhibit B: galaxy s vibrant

Not to mention the sales they make on people upgrading for new software alone.
Whether we see it officially or not, we will see a stable version for our phones from the devs here.

Wow, this is my first samsung phone so I didn't know such sad history existed. Well, whatever will be, I hope cm10 will be stable by then. I'm not a big fan of TouchWiz myself. My next phone will be a Google device phone. OS support is more important to me than specs

Amen Bro ! Thats why I love this site so much. It doesn't really matter what T-Mobile does so its kind of a pointless conversation. I would't really even take the KIES update or OTA update from T-Mobile anyways. I will wait untill someone here gets a good stable JB Release. I am reluctant to change because my ICS rom is so smooth and stable but I know within a few months it will be worth it. It's like a slap in the face to the slow and bloated T-Mo. Rom.

I wouldn't do a kies update either. My hope is for Samsung to release source so that the devs here have more to work with. That was what dogged the vibrant. They eventually released Froyo for it, but nothing further. The GB/ICS/JB releases for it were all ported from either the i9000 or the Nexus S, and had to be tweaked since there was no actual source to work with for the vibrant itself. That's why the GPS was so spotty on it on any version of android after Froyo. I'm glad that my insurance replacement for my busted Vibrant was the Hercules, which is still in the window of time (was it 18 months?) that they pledged to support upgrades to android. Whether we actually see it is another story. At least the devs here really kick some butt on the ROMs they release.

Just got JB on my tf300 2 days ago
Asus updates waaaay quicker than Samsung! Maybe later on I could get an Asus Phone.

Still no signs of Android 2.3 for our beloved "Vibrant"?

Oh come on Samsung, its big time we get to taste the Android Gingerbread OS for our Galaxy S Vibrant. I have a Galaxy S I9000 and I got Gingerbread update in the month of Apr-May. But Samsung has not even released Android 2.2.1 for Vibrant. Did they forget this model?
Edit: No doubt I love the amazing Cyanogenmod 7 on my Vibrant but I'd love to see the 2.3 update from Samsung (some TouchWiz love LOL).
basically they abandoned us after froyo lol

Don't hold your breath on that one. I think the Vibrant is dead, at least in samsung's eyes. There have been multiple leaks for Galaxy S4G, another today for the Epic and i believe the others have also seen leaks, and and still nothing for the Vibrant.

T-Mobile doesn't want to cut into upgrades. Since the Vibrant 4G is out and is the current model, the original Vibrant is deprecated. It is pretty obvious, as no other carrier has been denied a Gingerbread version for the Galaxy S except for T-Mobile.
Although GB would have been nice, I am not missing anything on 2.2.1. What about you guys? Any killer apps or features that makes GB more desirable? Don't tell Crt animation and over scroll glow

Its the little thing like a faster, smother scrolling and improved gps no needs to use lag fix etc that make it worth upgrading. And ofc we all love to upgrade that why we are on XDA .

The 4G isn't much of an upgrade for current Vibrant owners imo. I don't see why we couldn't get the software it's not like it would give us a FFC or 4g(maybe). I guess for those of us smart enough to root and flash that we survive with better roms anyway. We probably should have seen this coming. I mean the only way possible to get froyo was to update via kies which hopefully won't brick your phone.

there samsung, all the reason you'll ever need.
Not a good enough reason. If you notice the dfferent versions of GB they've went through you'll understand that for every GB version 2.3, 2.3.2, 2.3.3, and 2.3.4; Samsung took a month to two months of testing and improving. GB been in the works since april/may starting with 2.3 and now we're at 2.3.4. And from the looks of it they're in the last month of testing and improving GB
Even though 2.3.7 is out apparently lol.

Icecream sandwich isn't out yet. Therefore we don't have gingerbread. The general rule of thumb with these phones has been always being one release behind.

It'll be nice to have an official ICS release for the international Note if only for the purposes of ripping out the necessary drivers and framework tweaks needed to get an AOSP build work perfectly (hardware accelerated video, true S-Pen functionality, MHL output, USB OTG, etc...)

From GS3 to Galaxy Nexus back to Gs3

So I sold my GS3 for a Galaxy Nexus because I wanted to experience Jelly Bean. Well after a week I'm back and heres why.
1. Screen bigger and better
2. Camera much better
3.phone felt much snappier(although I wasn't on Jellybean)
4.volume much louder and crisp
5.GSM Nexus had no LTE and below standard HSpa+ never over 6 mbps
So if your in to specs I say the Gs3 is the place for you.
Also if buying the Nexus off craigslist make sure it's able to receive the update the one I bought was on the wrong radio and was told it would not which Is why I sold it too.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Well, not to be bashful or anything, but I figured going with the GSIII was a given. Jelly Bean may be great, but it's not going to do anything to get the GNex up to GSIII standards. And no worries, GSIII will get it's fill of Jelly Bean goodness soon enough.
I had the galaxy nexus, I want on JB, I have no regrets switching.

No it won't. Official ics only just now rolled out for some sgs2 phones. The SDK was released in October of last year.
You might get some carrier leaks (buggy asz shiz) or cm10 (less buggy) but that will probably be many months.

Look up the change log and structure between those earlier android versions then go look at jelly bean compared to ics. Believe it or not the change isn't a complete overhaul, they meant for it to be that way.

I really wasn't interested, if you haven't guessed yet.
I was making a point about JB not being easily ported compared to ics or gb.
Im no dev but the majority of ICS porting applies to JB. Under the hood they are very similar. Google Now, the new voice software, and the triple buffering (kernel level stuff) are the major differences. Google now is an APK and the voice isn't requiring a lot of work either I'm sure.
If we don't have a fairly strong jb aosp in a month I would be surprised.

I think it's pretty obvious that the jump from GB to ICS is what took so long. imagine trying to get all your current apps and data and customization to work with a new OS with zero hiccups and nothing lost. ICS is so completely different from GB, I'm not surprised it took so long. The jump to JB from ICS isn't nearly as large, as some people have pointed out. I'm banking on us getting it early Q4.

CM 10 doesn't require a bunch of new drivers or official blobs from Samsung so it should be rewrite of code and implementing the apps and such. If the SGS III got AOSP ICS in weeks I'd say cm 10 might be weeks away from the point source was released. I'm not positive cause I'm not on a computer, but I think Steve Kondik (Cyanogen) has the SGS III for T-Mobile. I'm no where near a PC (just my phone til Monday)... if he is on the device as the main team member, we are looking at great nightlys and then some.

I think they will help as far as jellybean, but that's depending on how big key lime pie is.

Im totally positive that they will help for JB, and judging from Android's past behavior with updates, im about 75% sure that they will also be good for Lime Pie (if thats the name for the next release of Android. These drivers are going to be good for Android 4.x.x, they will stop working for sure on Android 5.0. Thats going to be the end for the Atrix, at least with drivers. Thats just my guess tough.

Judging from Android's past behavior with updates, Key Lime Pie will be Android 5.0.
[Edit]
Upon further review you may be right. I certainly hope Key Lime Pie is Android 4.2 with driver compatibility with ICS/JB.

Not me. My contract ends next July. Until then, I'm stuck with my Atrix. Now, where is the "unthanks" button? Accidentally gave you a "thanks" and I can't seem to undo it :/
Sent from that Atrix.

I have to agree with some of the others. My next upgrade is in February. Even I had an upgrade now I wouldn't use it yet. My Atrix has be great and there isn't any phone at the moment that really jumps out at me and says get me. The Atrix HD came close for me (want to stick with Moto because I love their hardware and software is finally starting to catch up). The only things that bother me with the Atrix HD is that because it is very similar to the Razr I'm worried about the battery life. Also, there is no Webtop. Webtop 3.0 was looking good and doesn't tax the cpu like the current version since essentially it is running in tablet mode. I'm kind of holding out to see if Moto does with the Atrix HD what they did with the Razr. The Atrix HD Maxx maybe. I would hope that they bring Webtop 3.0 to it and bring back the fingerprint scanner (fingerprint scanner not a deal breaker). Sorry got a bit off topic.
Hope we will see an OG Atrix leak soon.
Some people only want what they don't have. Don't have ICS therefore they want it.

atrix2 if I'm not mistaken has a locked bootloader, so that's a no go. We could get CM 4.1 with customized kernel
