Plrase advise me as to what i can do. If there is nothig i can do, is my warranty voided because root? Who should i contact for warranty? Att or motorola?

Which method did you root your phone with?...
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
I dont remember. I was rooted, and than updated my phone to the latest moto release. Lost root and than i had to flash somethig to get root back and than to unlock the hotspot app.
This was about 2 or 3 months back. All was ok till about a month ago, when i dropped the phone to the floor. Noticed the screen issue shortly after. Not sure if the drop caused this tho. There are no scratches on the screen, and it had a silicone case on it.

do you think the problem came from dropping your phone or were you messing with something on your phone? and yes your warrentty is voided, but you could get your own new screen on ebay for like 30 buxs and fix it yourself
Not sure if the drop caused it. Maybe. I noticed the pb soon after. I didn't mees with the phone, other than rooting and enaibeling hotspot.
The screen on ebay, is it the same as the stock one? Same quality?

Try a advanced restore of pds.img from the cwm only to see if that fixes your problem.. Thats if you did backup from cwm..
No, i didn't back up anything. Just rooted. I barely mannaged to do that.

My phone had the same thing and I sbf'd back to 1.26 and took it back no problems. Mine was also unlocked.

I also have that problem, the problem is with the touchscreen not the software. At first, the touchscreen will not work for sometime you'll need to turn the screen off and on again. The problem will start more frequent. Then, the touchscreen on some part of the screen will not work at all. Only to fix is to call ATT for a repair. But, I live in Thailand and I brought mine at US. So, it not worth sending it back. I buy the touchscreen off ebay for $60 and change it myself. Working great now.
Pretty cheap on ebay, some for $40. My screen started acting the exact same way. I honestly believe it's heat damage. I remember reading that there are layers of the glass that are glued together. Extreme heat could cause the layers to come apart enough that sections of the screen are unusable.
My screen is exactly as the OP said, about a half-inch from the bar at the top. I noticed it soon after I started mounting the phone in my car near the top of the windshield where it could get some steady sunlight (obviously I didn't realize it was doing that until I noticed this problem).
I just ordered my replacement off ebay and will give it a shot. It's worth $40 if it'll let me use my phone properly again and hold off having to get a new phone prior to my upgrade price kicking in.
Hopefully installation won't be too hard. Good luck to the rest of ya!
This happen to my boyfriend's phone recently as well. I posted everywhere trying to find a solution but no one could help. It started to get worse after about a week or so where another section, towards the bottom of the screen, became unresponsive as well. My boyfriend finally called Motorola and sent it in for repair. We don't have ATT's insurance so we didn't try that way. Anyways, he's suppose to receive the phone this Monday...we'll see if it's fixed.

Did your touchscreen come with the adhesive? If not, you'll need to be extremely careful when you remove the old one cause you'll need the adhesive or you'll need the two sided tape with <0.25mm thick and apply it to around the touchscreen and remember to apply it as a close system or the dust will go under your screen.
If you need more info just PM me
I think i.ll call moto.

Mine had the same issue, ive unlocked, rooted, modded the rom and radio, so no going to ATT, instead i took it to UbreakItIFixIt, just google them, best $99 i spent and kept all my custom goodies!
Sorry I haven't responded, hopefully you got your phone fixed but just in case you haven't...The phone came back and he hasn't had a problem with it whatsoever. The rep on the phone didn't know what was wrong with it or what they did to fix it but whatever they did, it worked. It took about a week or so to get the phone back and the only thing he had to pay for was shipping the phone out.
first of all i'm from Malaysia and i bought my nexus 7 from a electronics company called "senheng" roughly more than a month ago..i was pretty satisfied with it until recently all the bugs and defects are starting to annoy me A LOT...
1) sometimes the touch screen is not responsive.i try pulling down the notification tray but it doesnt get pull down..
2) they are black lines on the screen sometimes when playing games or surfing facebook..it does happened quite often although it only appears for a split second.
3) this is the worst defect of all.sometimes the tablet acts on it's own,it's like it's having a mind of it's own.it would just jump back to the homescreen, swipe around and open up apps on it's own when i'm actually using the tablet.Basically it's like a ghost is using the tablet. So i try to find the cause of this problem and i'hv found than whenever i try to swipe around really quick the tablet will become not responsive for a while and it'll start acting on it's own, so i feel that there's a problem with the touch screen panel.
I went back to "senheng" the other day, hoping that they would replace a new tablet for me but they refuse to, so most probably i'm going to ring up ASUS tomorrow to report about my problems and hope that they would replace me a new unit. My main problem is the 3rd, i can live with the other two but the 3rd one is seriously bugging me.
Is anyone having the same problem as me? If so, what did u do to solve it?
p/s : i'm on stock 4.2 rooted...
Sounds like your touch screen is screwed. You shouldn't be getting lines on the screen.
Also there was some bugs with the touch drivers in the early stages. Have you updated to 4.1.2 or 4.2? Knowing your version would give better results.
Why did they "refuse" you a replacement? Is it damaged? Over the return limit?
I know this may have a moral stance, but I don't think anyone could tell a N7 apart from another N7. The serial number is on a plastic sticker that is easily removed. You could possibly purchase a new one, swap devices, and return the old one/new box. Or buy a new one and use it until Asus repairs your old one... then return it.
I've returned 2 [I fried one with a bad bootloader and swapped a 16 for a 32 (paying the difference obviously)]. They all just opened the box to make sure there were no obvious physical damage. The back cover isn't "meant" to come off, so they won't tear it down in the store.
If you want to physically kill one, download and flash a Samsung Galaxy Nexus bootloader. It won't even power on. No power + No Sticker = no way to tell.
The only reason I'm saying this is simply because store policies shouldn't be too strict on their exchanges for defective units. I've had equipment fail just after 30 days and you are left with junk. I understand 30 days is there for a reason and it is a good policy, but it should be a fine line. A day or two shouldn't matter.

ya i'm on stock 4.2 rooted(sorry i forgot to state that)..
they wouldnt replace me a new one cuz they said that they're gonna have to repair it and bla bla bla..i mean come on, the whole touch screen panel is screwed and they want to try fixing it?! my warranty is not over yet, it has a 2 year warranty.
i dont think we can actually return the tablet within 14days here in Malaysia, we dont have this kind of policy(not sure).
what do u mean for me to physically kill one? u mean i should just killed it and return to the store for them to replace a new one?
My touch screen also has started flaking out as you describe from time to time. Took it back to the store but do you think it would do it then? No, it acted normal until I got home.
Going back there tomorrow to hope it plays up at the right time.

Fortunately I havent had these issues on my 32gb N7. One would think it would be under ASUS manufacturer warranty. I know its a last resort but if you have to then unroot and relock the boot loader and send it back to ASUS. I know the idea of not having your tablet for a while is crappy but if that's the only option...

i think asus dont really mind rooting and unlocking the bootloader of the device..
anyways, i'm gonna go to asus service centre today and hopefully they'll replace my unit with a new one...lol
Idk if they do or not. That's just the general rule of thumb when sending a device back for repair/exchange. Mainly BC they can say the issue may have been caused as a result of you unlocking and rooting your N7. That's why Google threw in the disclaimer when a boot loader unlock is attempted.

Please see attachment, it is a screenshot similar to the problem I have.
A part of the screen is not touch-respondsive. It only happened recently, never had this problem before.
Possible to fix? I have trouble unlocking the 9 dots pattern everytime I turn on the phone because of this problem.
Please help, thanks.
Never mind, flashed a different kernal and its working now.
edit: Wait, no it's still there.
update: I wiped everything and installed factory 4.2.2 patch (occam-jdq39-factory-345dc199.tgz) but still cannot fix this problem. Please help!

update: This also not working for me http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2163924... possible hardware issue?
verdict: I will live with this for now, after 1 day and still can't fix it then I will contact google hopefully for a replacement.

I am having the exact same issue. That almost makes me think it could be a software issue but you said you already did a factory reset.
The weird thing is that it looks like the same part of the screen. Its a horizontal section in the very middle.
My best conclusions are that its the digitizer. It just started happening out of no where though. Very frustrating. Makes it impossible to hit the send button on the stock messaging app without minimizing the keyboard! I take excellent care of my Nexus 4. It has a case and it hasn't been dropped. It hardly has a scratch on it! Its a month old.

Strongertyer I can feel your frustration.
Here's mine (the one in my op was found from google). Mine is a bit lower, it blocks the top half of the qwer line on the keyboard and the yes/no buttons on prompt windows.
I can still type qwer just fine by pressing the bottom half of the keys, but for the the prompts I have to tilt and rotate the screen every time so the buttons aren't under the "dead zone".
Strongtyer are you also thinking of sending the phone back to Google?

Just talked to support and they seemed helpful. However, his first suggestion was to do a factory reset of course. He said if that didn't work then I could send my phone back for a replacement. Did a factory reset and still the same issue. Looks like I'll be calling again tomorrow.
I guess the plus side is that they send brand new phones and not just refurbished ones.
Any luck on your end?

I gave up fixing it already as you can see in my 2nd post and I believe it is not possible to fix it other than having the whole screen replaced, so I asked directly for a replacement under warranty. Then after a brief moment google emailed me a set of instructions for packing the phone.
So on Sunday evening I booked the courier, printed the documents, picked everything back in the box, warped and taped it. And today the courier came and collected my phone.
Now I have to use my good old HTC Legend again. However it uses regular SIM card, so I had a bit of fun making myself an adapter to up size the Nexus 4's micro-sim!
I talked to Google today and they are sending me a replacement. They told me I can keep the phone till the new one arrives. I just have to return it within 21 days.
Just crossing my fingers that they don't say the damage is my fault. I don't know how o could have caused it. I haven't does it and I take really good care of it.

You should contact google anyway if you want a warranty replacement. Go to the link below, click contact google, answer a few check box questions and there should be a phone number.

Because I believe that the only way to fix this is to have the screen replaced.
Have the same problem here. I have the phone for 1 month now.
I live in the Netherlands and the nexus 4 did not get official release here. Should I still contact Google?
Could it be this problem only happens with the newer phone's? I have the one with the little feet on the back. Version 605 I thought. What version do you guys have?
Also should I unroot and lock the boot loader when I send it in for repair ?even though the problem has nothing to do with it.
Sorry for the poor English...

Welcome to xda-developers. Your English is fine.
You should contact Google.
Interesting that you mention the newer version of the phone -- I'd be interested in knowing if this is in fact a result of a newer manufacturing process, different materials, or maybe the place of manufacture (Korea or China). The place of manufacture can be identified by the letter in the fourth position of the serial number found on the box.
can someone update us on this issue? I have the same problem and i am so sad! I saved up 8 months to get this phone!

well, its certainly a hardware issue.
Digitizer, for what I know.
But no easy solution.
Would have happened due to the faulty charger.
But google is not helping!
I have the same exact issue. Playing PVZ2 is now extra difficult because of this issue.
Is there any other fix other than an RMA (currently not in the US)? :crying:

I have this same screen issue. Mine is is first row from top which makes it very frustrating. I am on 4.4.2 and still have this issue.
Can you describe what you've tried in more detail?
I have the same problem but mine is like 2 inches from the bottom of the screen. I can use the softkeys in portrait but they are unusable in landscape. I have had the phone since Nov 12 so sadly my phone is now out of warranty. LG's approved repair centre want £95 for a new screen. I am thinking maybe buy a Nexus 5 and trade this in for £70. I could sell it for like £130 but I would feel bad selling a phone I know the screen is on its last legs.
Hi all, I need some help from you guys.
I read all about voiding warranty if I root my device but something happened to my nexus that I find too akward.
A couple weeks ago, I sent my Nexus to repair due to faulty gps.
It would not recieve any signal. I installed many different ROMs, wiped it, tryed factory image from Google themselves without any success. So I decided to send my Nexus to warranty. Before sending it in I installed the factory image once again and relocked the bootloader.
As I bought my device froma reseller (FNAC) I did not send it directly to ASUS. I went to FNAC instead.
The problem is that today I recieved a SMS from FNAC saying that the brand (ASUS) did not accept my device under warranty.
I am wondering what could possibly go wrong. I am a bit worried about all this as I am 100% sure I took all the precautions to unroot my device. I know it had a factory image from Google and the only thing I am not sure is if I relocked the bootloader.
Tomorrow I will go to FNAC to know what they have to say.
My question is, can they refuse to repair my device only because the bootloader is unlocked? I was not bricked, only the gps did not work.
Sorry for the big text, thanks in advance
Yep they can completely refuse to repair it if the bootloader is unlocked.
To begin with, you need to find out what reason Asus gave.
Any number of things are possible - for all you know, your device got dropped/damaged after it left your hands, but before it arrived at Asus. Or any of a number of other reasons.
But it would be interesting for you to follow up your OP with an account of your experience.
Try installing this
If it's not hard-bricked then try going through Clockwork Recovery (For 4.2.2)
Then download Google Apps from this webpage goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip
Then the GPS will work and other Google Apps just fine, and if you want you can start fresh from stock then root it again then put in the ROM (CyanogenMod 10.1 RC2 is the best one) or which ever one you want to use then install Google Apps (gapps) through Clockwork by choosing 'Add Zip' then adding the zip in the downloads folder or your nexus 7. There is though a RC3 and RC4 but I prefer RC2 get.cm/?device=grouper&type=RC
Tomorrow I'll post more info of whats going on.
Thanks for replies.
YoyoscratchMC did not understand your post..
In the guarantee card is a point where it says that unlocked devices have no longer guarantee.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Ok guys so it had nothing to do with software.
I did setup my tablet nicely so ASUS could not complain about unlocking anything.
So the reason they refused to repair my tablet under warranty is a small scratch that cant even be called dent. It has about 1mm diameter and is more a lack of paint than a dent. The small scratch is right next to two connector (see images below) and ASUS repair team said that one connector was not there. They classified it as my fault for damaging the device.
I cannot believe that a small scratch can cause that damage. My opinion is that the connector was badly installed or was not even there at the beggining since I never tested the gps when I bought the device.
Plus the repair cost would be more than 200€, almost the price of a new Nexus. They want to replace the motherboard!
I will post the pictures that ASUS took from my device as soon as I can.
Btw, any1 knows what those connectors do?
Thanks

I sent my nexus 7 in because I erased the boot loader (I'm a dumb***) and they upgraded me from an 8gb to 16gb and my nexus was all banged and beat up odd they wouldn't fix yours

I could not believe when they told me that they refused to repair due to a small scratch... Anyway I refused to pay for the repair budget and made a complaint to oficial authorities. I will be able to use my nexus as is while they process the complaint.
Oh and they want to replace the whole board just because it is missing 1 pin from the gps connector. Is that normal?
Thankyou all.

Doubt it mate. It always comes down to repair companies that ASUS hires.
In my country there are many complaints with the repair service of ASUS. The company that repairs the products here for ASUS is awful. Maybe in your country it's better.
Got my new LG G2 on Thursday - enjoying things so far, no complaints... Except I looked under status, and my phone says "Rooting status: Rooted"... Anyone else experience that?
I haven't tried to do anything to it (yet), aside from accepting the OTA update... The only other curveball so far was that activation took awhile, the SIM it came with didn't match the order paperwork, and I had to figure that out for myself...
Looking for everyone's thoughts and/or guidance about what to do... On the one hand, I might root it myself once I am certain I am keeping it. On the other hand, I am worried what would happen if the phone develops issues and I needed to return it or whatnot..
Send it back asap and tell then the phone is used and how you know it's used.

Did your phone have all the plastic on it when you unboxed it? Should have been 2 on the metal outer ring. One around the camera. One over the back buttons. Front.back. and bottom of back. (Last one is some type of retail sticker or something. Didn't really read it. Just ripped it off and threw it out)

Sure didn't look like a restock. Had all the plastic: front, back, 2x along the sides, camera, buttons... I ordered it online and it was shipped to me; wouldn't that reduce chances it was a restock, or am i missing something...?
Not on the same phone, but I had a gnote 2 that came pre-bootloader unlocked. No screen cracks, nothing. It was sweet.

hmm. maybe they are preping a pre-rooted one for vzw? LOL ... who am i kidding. they would never do that.
Just after the phone was released, someone else posted that their phone said that it was rooted as well. If you're going to root anyway, I wouldn't worry about it. If not, you may want to exchange it (unless you want to revert to stock yourself - there's a thread that tells how to do that too).
Edit: here's the thread I was talking about. Read from post #20.
