Bring on the ported Galaxy S roms
hXXps://twitter.com/#!/googlenexus/status/147783081426817024
we got faster news here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1395828
we are installing it already
this in change is good news for SGS i9000 and it variants, as the NS i9020 is very similar to our phone
update Koush already made it available to flash via CWR for i9020
This is great news - the ICS ports on the SGS are pretty damn good already, with this we should have some nice improvements.
AND Android 4.0.3 was released today... http://www.xda-developers.com/android/android-4-0-3-announced/
I really want to see an improvement in the current ROMs for Galaxy S. This will really help !
haha! wow! now this is something that really gets me excited
if anyone is interested to see a preview:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPAF2Rsdm1I
It's in spanish (i think). But who cares, all we want to see is how it works anyway, right?
From what i was able to observe in that video it seems smooth, but i would have definitely treated it a bit harsher just to see when it starts lagging/if it all xD
Hi all,
Im getting rid of my Galaxy S I9000 ive had for about 18months
The envirophone phone recycling website have offered me £110 for it,
does anyone know if I have to remove custom firmware before sending it off as currently got it running Team ICS 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich ROM.
Cheers, will miss you guys, will be just round the corner with my new Galaxy SII
I think you may be fine but just flash a stock firmware to be on the safe side. Got myself a SGS today as a backup phone, nice little phone. Same as my previous SGS2 in rooting and such. You'll enjoy it's bigger brother
Thanks, i am already enjoying the SII a little snappier than the S.
Just flashed stock gingerbread so ready to send off now, though I might have a friend wanting it.
I dont think they could handle XDA though, i think stock is more their cup of tea.

Hah I'd be lost without xda. Plenty of good roms over at sgs2. As well as kernels. Enjoy your phone

I am having trouble picking a rom I am happy with. I seem to be torn between a couple sense 1.0 based roms and a couple ICS roms. I like Tommys classic, impatiently waiting for his next release. I also enjoy Swagged out stocks rom. Those are great roms and they are what I am used to and what I know.
But we got all these cool new ICS roms that have all the flashy goodness. I am liking mazda's dark and light and swiperrats MIUI ICS.
Whats everybody else rocking right now? Which of these 4 would you choose and why?

Gummy worms is by far the best ICS I've used because everything works, and works well including panorama. Personally I've been using Mango Chicken 7 which is windows phone themed and I love it. I'm sticking with it waiting for the major update.
Or instead of those sense 1 roms Mikg is not bad and has a little more options (I like landscape view too)
And gummy rocks my socks too ics wise ;-)

So I rooted my SGS2 so I could get ICS and the JB.
With the Nexus 4 one doesn't get that benefit so I'm thinking I may not install a custom ROM.

Not really sure what you mean. You will get Google updates as they come out and there will be custom roms.

We'll see what CM has to offer...
Not right away, but more than likely I will eventually.
100%. It's the whole point in getting a Nexus device for me.
I bought an S3 and was expecting awesome dev support, having come from a S1. The lack of Exynos documentation kills any sort of chance of good AOSP based roms for that device. S3 is now sold
Stock android is great but things like lack of T9 dialling and lack of quick toggles bug the hell out of me.
Of course. Have the last version of android is only one of the things you get with a nexus. Have the last version with a lot of addons is better. Read what aokp offer.

same for me! i have a One S and i'm tiered of waiting for a stable aosp rom
I hope some of the manufacturer skins get ported over. I honestly enjoy Sense every once in a while, and that skin LG has on the Optimus G looks pretty sweet. But I really love vanilla android and always end up running AOSP for the most part. And MIUI, big MIUI fan.
Cm10 will be available within a week or two for the n4. Perhaps even sooner than that. Android 4.2 is not a huge update. I remember when 4.1 went live, it was incorporated within a week or so. That's what I expect for cm10. Even aokp and all aosp ROMs. That's how I see it

This. I am genuinely looking forward to giving MIUI a go again! I used to love it on the S1.
With the Quad S4, I highly doubt we'll actually even see a visual difference. It'll be a placebo effect for most people.
I'm half-tempted to just run full stock since I'm getting tired of the custom ROM scene. Kernels are ok though sometimes.
I'm willing to flash a ROM but I from flashing so many ROMs on my GNex I realized that the ROM doesn't add much improvement. To notice any improvement you're gonna want to flash a kernel instead. Roms just as features, but for the real gain in battery and speed you flash the kernel. So I'm gonna wait for Franco or Morfic to get their hands on the N4 and crackflash their kernels lol.
I never felt the need to install a custom ROM on my N7, so probably not, there's not a whole lot of improvements that can be made when the N4 is already 100% pure Android, as most of the custom ROM's I've dealt with on other phones are basically trying to make it 99% pure Android. Not to mention if you get the 8GB model, performing backups will be a pain.
I like the custom ROMs, mainly cm10, because of the quick toggles, weather on lock screen, etc. A lot of tweaks are made, just like aokp, which is another good ROM. Also, apps are also tweaked, like adding iso or a timer in the camera app. A lot of good tweaks are added with custom ROMs

On my old captivate (which was running 2.1-2.3) had roms running on it left, right and centre. But once I got the gnex and ics I didnt feel a need for roms anymore as well as with jelly bean. So I probably wouldnt be using roms on the N4 either.
I don't think I will be installing a custom rom on the N4. I like the stock look which is why I rooted my Droid Incredible and flashed CM on it. Seeing as most of the stuff I use in CM 7.2 has been incorporated into the later versions of Android is another reason I probably won't flash a custom rom unless a really useful feature is added that I would want.
The first thing I'm gonna do when I get my N4 is root and flash a battery mod. :silly: I'm still kinda annoyed Google hasn't added this.
With my Infuse, I rooted and added a custom ROM because I was sick of what Samsung added to the phone. I might just keep this phone stock for a while, and enjoy the updates as they come in. I like some of the features some ROMs offered, like Paranoid, but I'll just see how everything goes stock.
Maybe not the first week or two. But after that there will be some awesome stuff. Plus I'll prolly make one for myself like I always do.
Definitely looking towards custom kernels and UV and OC scripts.
AOSP or AOKP will be flashed ASAP!
I'm trying to decide between the G2 and Note 3. Obviously both have their plus and minus points but what will sway it for me is the dev action with vanilla ROMs.
I know it's early days for the G2, and N3 isn't even out yet, but I'd like opinions on whether G2 is gonna get much love in this respect? Did the LG Optimus G Pro get much? Also any other factors preventing this, such as locked bootloaders, etc. I will be looking at getting the UK version.

A super alpha (more proof of concept) cm10.1 just went up today.
Wow great news to hear there is a CM build for this already, even if it is a really buggy early alpha right now. It will get better.
I think that if the Nexus 5 is in fact what we have been seeing the past few days in the FCC papers then the G2 will also get some great AOSP love since the hardware itself is near identical, the physical form factor is what is changed.

I don't have enough posts to post in that thread, but I'm on board with this effort. I'll gladly help with getting a fully function CM port running; doing so will also effectively complete the groundwork for a true Nexus-like vanilla AOSP build.
I'm a professional developer who works with desktop C++ and embedded linux, hacked on and rolled my own kernel drivers, etc. My plan is to make this my weekend project and hammer out ABI/proprietary binary issues to get a build of either CM or AOSP fully functional. Odds are good that the release of the N5 will make this process substantially easier as it will share a very similar hardware platform and include binaries linked against the latest kernels for KitKat.
I am excite.
I had been running Carbon ROM on my GNex and loved the AOSPness of it, but have to admit, I kinda enjoy some of the LG stuff. Would love LG + AOSP rom including things like tap-tap and the camera (although I miss Photosphere)
AOSP ROMS!!

Man, I would love some AOSP ROMs for this phone. I agree that the knock-knock on/off is a nice feature, but I need vanilla Android. This LG skin is just too much for me!
Bring on the AOSP guys!

You just have to wait patiently. Barely 2 weeks ago CM10.2 went up for the G Pro finally, and since then, you simply have to look in the Original Devleopment forum to see what has happened. Literally, a dozen AOSP 4.2 and 4.3 ROMs popped up, all perfectly functional.
Just wait and contribute all you can and we'll all see AOSP soon.
I'm really looking into the g2 being my next device. However..... If it can't have a fully functional PACman ROM ported over, I'm out then.
