Envirophone - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hi all,
Im getting rid of my Galaxy S I9000 ive had for about 18months
The envirophone phone recycling website have offered me £110 for it,
does anyone know if I have to remove custom firmware before sending it off as currently got it running Team ICS 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich ROM.
Cheers, will miss you guys, will be just round the corner with my new Galaxy SII

I think you may be fine but just flash a stock firmware to be on the safe side. Got myself a SGS today as a backup phone, nice little phone. Same as my previous SGS2 in rooting and such. You'll enjoy it's bigger brother

Thanks, i am already enjoying the SII a little snappier than the S.
Just flashed stock gingerbread so ready to send off now, though I might have a friend wanting it.
I dont think they could handle XDA though, i think stock is more their cup of tea.

Hah I'd be lost without xda. Plenty of good roms over at sgs2. As well as kernels. Enjoy your phone

Galaxy tab wont get ice cream sandwich offical update

According to korean promotional site by samsung galaxy tab is not getting official ics update
Reason=hardware not capable of handling ics
Rom specifically if I'm not mistaken. And it's been confirmed before, this was just the reason why
And what you do not like ics who is here?
Ice cream sandwich ROM
In the quest to update my GT-P1000M Bell model from Froyo 2.2 to Gingerbread to now finally ended up with Overcome ROM 4. Everything went perfect, here and there problems and a couple of days even went by - but eventually am happy now and the tab is working fine.
So I want to thank all the members of XDA Developers for the files and the procedures and also the rest of those who posted questions and there were answers - it all helped a lot. Now I know what it is to get Bricked ...
Further I want to know where do I go from here. Did I get the actual ice cream Sandwich ROM that actually has started retailing on stores ???
Some of the problems I got which i wanted to highlight was - my tab was going to the EDGE network here in Saudi and no matter trying to figure out which modem file didn't work. I installed the bell modem file eventually although it gave a no voice warning. But the thing was that it still showed edge network. than I was fiddling with the Packet Data enable check box and when I did once it changed to H&3G and when I did again it would change to E back. Strange. Hope this might help somebody having this problem.
The MIUI Rom did not work properly at all ... So I switched over to Overcome. the keypad was not showing up. The Sim was not detected and mobile networks page were all dimmed. I didnt wait too long. My Hands were shaking ... wondering what happened

Hmm, I thought that the SGT handled ICS (CM9) quite nicely. Could use some optimizations here and there, but performance is very acceptable imo
Samsung claim that the sgs and sgt don't have the ram etc to handle their touchwiz on top of the ics as well. It's not that it can't handle ics on its own, but the both of them together. And Samsung will not release their ics roms without touchwiz on top.

I wonder this too... I see most ROM's just getting rid of TouchWiz, so there's no way it can be that great to start with

Galaxy SII ICS (Android 4.0.3) released. Galaxy Note next???

I just saw this on SamMobile firmware page:
GT-I9100 - I9100XXLPJ - Android 4.0.3 - 2012 February - I9100OXALPJ - Open Europe
See: sammobile.com/firmware
It's starting??? Finally????
Not sure if it's helpful for us for the N7000, i suppose that a few drivers are in common, but it lacks the system UI and SPen. The stock frequencies are also differents.
Futur 'll us
so what about note??
Does it support switching to a normal Android 4.0 Holo launcher??
What it really means is that now they can start working full time for us, so the leaks should start dropping again... I hope

Galaxy S2 has been having ICS leaks for over a month now...?
As above ^ This really means nothing for us..
Here is the link as Korean SGII user uploaded the screenshot of the new ICS...
It is identical to the ones we got from the chinese leaked version which does not looks like pure ICS.

Samsung can`t launch a pure ICS, is the same in HTC... Samsung TW, HTC Sense :S... Port or wait to official release?

Why would you ever think you were going to get a pure ICS?
Well will this be usefull for development. Becuase they have to release sources and Gnote is almost similar to SgS2.....

Well, touchwiz it is still better than pure ics who can't even make folders in the drawer.
I have a nexus and I still using go launcher, the contact section it is a skin, the functions are the same.
But if you want stock ics wait some weeks for a rom
It seems that Samsung is currently deploying ICS in Asia and Europe, the ICS release for Note is going to follow.
Hope this will help devs to release custom ROMs without this crappy Touchwiz
I see where ICS for the SGS2 released by sammy has already been rooted.
The first few "official" releases should have numerous exploits that allow for
root without too much trouble.
I'll just be glad to get root back. I screwed up on the last update and did it
from Kies and lost root and don't want to jump through the hoops of downgrading,
wiping etc just to get root back, knowing the ICS update will probably wipe it all out again anyway.

I don't give a f--- what is the real stock gingerbread looks like.... all I am saying and lot of people out there who updated this ICS yesterday wish the user interface is the same as the one in the galaxy nexus... Lot of galaxy note users and few developers are creating custom rom that looks similar to the pure ICS .
So... what i am writing here is in my right and I don[t need to hear all this crap saying why would you want this update looks like pure ICS...
so if you guys have nothing better to do than complain about my thought then... go on have a good wank...... for f--- sake!!!

Touchwiz is Samung's way of branding their Android devices. If every manufacturer included stock Android in their phones, what would be the incentive to get one particular device over another, especially if the hardware of all high end devices from all manufacturers is almost identical? Unfortunately, if you want the stock Android experience you'll have to get a Nexus, or flash a stock rom built from the ICS source code. Can't have your cake and eat it too I guess..

News regarding our beloved SGS1

Hey all, tried searching the forum to make sure this already wasnt posted up, and found nothing, so here it goes!
While doing some homework on the latest official ICS release for the SGS2, came across a thread somebody linked up in the SGS2 forums regarding the new firmware release, with that was some new info on new firmware to come for the SGS1 and other devices by months end! Looks like this could be that "Value Pack" that was leaked/talked about some months back. Although not ICS, at least Samsung still have the First gen galaxy still in mind - Check the link from their Facebook page! Apologies if this is already posted up somewhere, if not, go nuts peeps and start getting excited i guess

Good spot!
Wonder if it will be enough for people to switch back from the various custom roms, doubt it though. I'm happy with MIUI until phone upgrade time comes around.

Not in this case.... If they do the same as with the ICS of SGS2, (but without ICS, just their crapy mod) you better look for a good custom ICS or enjoy gingerbread for the rest of you life...! Seriously, aosp ICSSGS works tremendously, you can consider it almost as stock ROM, and forget about Samsung and their ****...
Not to mention some carriers like Bell here in Canada are unlikely to push another update. Pretty sure they will leave it with the crappy 2.3.3 rom.
It may be interesting to see what they come up with but I doubt it will compare to ICS ports like ICSSGS. The big question will be lag and UI jerkiness: ICSSGS has almost none, it's night and day compare to any of the 2.1-2.3.x Samsung roms I've run.
It's probably just referring to the official release of the JVU value pack.

More than likely. But its been some time since that leaked, so no doubt the bugs that were present should be ironed out hopefully by now!

I can almost guarantee there wont be an update for carrier branded variants around the globe, just too much work for them in their eyes to deliver updates when they can sell something new an updated, and continue with the same cycle! Just look at the US, all the variants for each carrier and pretty much no love which has to suck! Whereas this news relates to unbranded handsets, which gets looked after just fine IMHO. Ok, updates arent always flying through but who really cares, as long as it works! I have an unlocked i9000 (euro version) and am now on the official JW1 (via kies) and have not had a single problem what so ever! But ill take whatever update that comes. If it keeps my SGS kicking till the S3 arrives, then im happy. Just good to hear Samsung is taking this stuff seriously. Again may not be ICS but still good on them for doing something. People can keep blaming Samsung for lack of updates, but most that do that are on branded handsets and should be hounding their carriers for an update!

really, 2.3.3? That's insulting! Could they pick any worse firmware to stick to? Anyway, carrier policy it's always hilarious... Why on earth has the galaxy mini better firmware than the galaxy S? (I know the answer, rhetorical question!)

Anyway, I don't think those customers will care at all... Cause if they cared, they wouldn't hesitate to flash any custom... I just think this value pack is useless whatsoever.

Samsung says our Vibrants can't do Ice Cream Sandwich

I counted about a dozen sweet Ice Cream Sandwich Roms in the Development forum based on at least three completely open source repo's.
I say up yours Samsung, we don't need your kind around here!!!
they said that cuz our phones dont have the memory to handle the ics using touchwiz framework
and i doubt they would ever remove it so no official update for us

They have a SGS II port in the i9000 forum that is ICS touchwiz and it seams to run pretty well, (they have a video, i tried to port it but the kernel is hacked to make it work) so really they just dont want to do it.

are you guys still stuck on this subject? GET OVER IT. We have amazing ICS ROMS in our dev section already. Samsung has their business style just as any other company.
If you guys are really still stuck on the subject, you could try to spread the word of this petition...

Sadly the petition started to slow down about a month ago, but hey, maybe you guys can give it a second wind. Although I honestly doubt we'll get an official upgrade at this point in time.

[Q] Which is better ? ICS from Samsung or CM9

I am looking at getting ICS from Samsung on mt GT 10.1, but it's already rooted, and if I want the official ICS, I have to un-root it. Not sure how I will do this. But before going through all this, I want to know what users prefer: ICS from Samsung or CyanogenMod ?
BTW: What's the safest way to un-root a GT 10.1 ? I got mine from USA, although I am in Canada.
Thanks
uhh? maybe i'm slow in australia but i didnt think ICS was out yet? would be the best surprise if it was...

In order to unroot flash a stock rom OR remove su from /system/bin and delete superuser.apk from system/system apps and reboot OR download SuperSU from market which does the same!
None can tell you which rom is best. I personally prefer cm but I haven't seen the official yet. The safest way was, and will be to try them both!

Try ACS's method
I unrooted mine last night in prep for the official release rumored to come out anytime soon. I used this method:
[ACSyndicate] [How-To] Root/Unroot The SGT 10.1 GT-P7510 USA Retail WiFi Only http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1474971
As for the diff's between CM9 and official ICS, ICS should have a working camera, but when the libs are released, you can bet your bottom dollar that these geniuses will have a modded rom based on it shortly.
If it's like ICS for the SGS2, I'd prefer Samsung's. They did a nice job and Task will clean it up well.
You don't need to unroot to get the update, i updated 4 times without unrooting using kies, and to unroot without the need to flash a new rom use (gingerbreak.apk ) and choose option unroot it works for me.

+1...we all blame Samsung for being the last to offer the update, but 3.2 was flawless for me...even battery life. The battery, which supposedly lasts 9 hours, lasted 10 with really hard use (3g constantly on, email sending, a little gaming, and 4 episodes of game of thrones and of course browsing and keeping an eye on xda...)

You don't need to unroot and I wouldn't be surprised if a dev released a rooted stock ICS rom before the actual release date

If I read this correctly, you're confirming that an update to ICS for your SGS2 in available in Hartford, CT?
Will they instead release JB, now that it is out ?
I am wondering here whether it will be worth going to ICS and then, instead of jumping directly to JB. Could it be what Samsung is/was waiting for ? Now that I have the tools to properly restore HoneyComb 3.2 anytime, I will wait and see, but until then, I will enjoy this CM [early] version of Jelly Bean. You can find the details here.

There is no such thing as "no bugs", it is just the nature of software being coded by human beings and the thousands (if not millions) of lines of code it takes to make all this stuff work. I think people don't understand what it actually takes for these companies to put out these updates. It is amazing to me that they get them out as quickly as they actually do to be honest.
I don't want to be a troll, but the answer to the question "ics official or cm9" is "cm10". Up until 3 days ago I was with stock 3.2 waiting for oficial ICS, but after reading the thread about cm10 preview I decited to try it and after installing it's like having a new tablet. It amazingly fast and rock solid stable. With 3.2 I've never used the task switcher button, because it was terrible slow. Now with JB I can't live without it.
It's still a preview version, but really I don't want more. The only thing is the missing camera, but I never use it.
Putting JB on my tab made me feel like I got a whole new tab.
