I run Savaged Zen with my Mason Kernel, its quite nice considering the performance. I run my low clock at 400~ MHz, and my top clock at 1113 MHz. I can last a day and a half to two days, though I am using a mod to turn of my cell radio (I use my Evo as a media player).

Sorry, my key board died last night and was to lazy to get batteries lol. That is pre-gingerbread. that was dark slide 4.2 oc'd to 1.3ghz after a full wipe and install.
My highest for GB just barely broke 1800 @ like 1807 iirc. that's oc'd to 1.2ghz. stock was 1776
I'm getting 2197 overclocked to 1300 with 69 vsel.
It's stable and I don't get unexplained crashes with GB.

I use Jrummy's app, exclusively.. it's given me better results than any other one. The 1.45 setting was taken out in recent versions, but there is a setting that enables "Legacy Frequencies". I used ULV 1.45Ghz preset, on performance governor setting for the purpose of this benchmark. I'm using the deodexed/rooted version of Gingerbread with P3droid's "preview of TranQ" 10% battery mod/CRT animation zip. I have roughly 40 things frozen with Titanium(things that do not hinder my daily use in any way). That's about it. I have something like 120 apps installed from the market, as well. Screen is set to 180 density, ads blocked.
Other than actually using the 1.45ghz setting, I did nothing to prepare for a benchmark, specifically.
I usually stick to the 1.15Ghz ULV setting for daily use, just because I have more need for a battery than absurdly fast speed, and really, who **needs** much higher than stock??

I'm using the eye candy version too. I find it quite good (after installing a better theme for adw ), but i dont like that they put custom contact book, browser and messaging app
They run just as quick as the originals with more features and the roms pretweaked all you have to do is uninstall reinstall to you're liking and fine tune I like it
But then again it is a preference thing

Well the truth is by time im kinda start to like it as it is i have te stock contacts soft from back from v1, installed opera mini as browser and switched to that secound theme and it is all okay now. Only thing, that sucks is that i often need to delete data of GTalk and after reboot phone in order to get market working
So I've been using cm9 for like 2 weeks along with go launcher. And I always noticed it being slow and always lagging and not smooth at all. So today I went back to thunderhawk and was amazed of how quick it was and was just amazed by it until I restored go launcher and I ended up with the same performance as I had on cm9 or even worseee. So I uninstalled it and wiped cache and dalvic and did a fresh install off the market and started to customize it and noticed that the more settings I change and the more apps I add to the homescreen the worse and worse it became.
I really don't even have all that much things. Just 3 pages, 3 widgets, 4 apps, and 4 bookmark shortcuts. And with only those it is very slow.
So I'm using tw launcher now and the whole ROM is amazing now.
Anyone notice this with go launcher? Anyone know any similar launcher that doesn't lag? What I'm looking for is the ability to custom choose icons from gallery, a scrollable dock, and some cool transition animations for homescreens + app drawer.
I know some may have these like adw launcher and launcher pro but I wanna see what you guys think is the best out of them all cuz I know there is some that I don't even know about.

Nova is "very" customizable and does support custom icons. Nova and Apex are right on the same level, and are both worth purchasing the licensed features. On Apex I randomly get lag in the app drawer, though. So I have since stuck with Nova since it's been flawless for me.

Well Apex is the same guy who made LauncherPro.
But i actually like NOVA better customization and barely any lag whatsoever.
With any lag issues that i have its because i'm using conservative for the cpu governor instead of OnDemand.

Well I flashed faux's kernel and everything seems nice and smooth....the only difference I can see/notice at this point is the max clock speed on faux's is about 60mhz less than ktoonsez....which I kinda prefer because I usually had ktoonsez set to 1809 and it would randomly switch to 1890 every time I ran MC3. Other than that...battery life seems decent enough...will only tell with time....no other pros or cons at this time to report
Scaling seems a bit more advanced in this kernel as well.

I would agree with you on the OC between the two, but KT also under volts to 192 and have a range of governors compared to Faux. Also using the smartv2 seems to be quite conservative and have the performance boost to scale from 192 to 1890 if you choose those settings. Faux was killing my battery whether OC to 1809 or 16??. I'm really enjoying KT and think it was a good switch from Faux, especially running with KyanROM 1.5. This is just my $.02.

Both kernels evolving. New kernels keep coming up - dozen a day.
I tried each with benchmarks and battery life. Nothing beats stock for now.

Can't comment on battery yet.....but doesn't seem too bad at this point. Gonna have to let it sit overnight to tell. As for the UV/UC of ktoonsez....unfortunately I have one of the "crap phones" that makes everything act all crazy...once you raise the voltage a tad it seems stable enough. Never said one was better than the other.....at this point from a basic use standpoint they are pretty equal....

You saying stock kernel performs better than both custom kernels? Because you ran benchmark tests to prove it?

But to get back on topic...it looks like I'm about to get approx 5hrs screen time in the new kernel...but will report what the drain is overnight....one thing for certain is....I have it setc to the max 1830 (ondemand, noop) and it is definitely running cooler!

I agree with you. Benchmarks mean nothing compared to real usage.

Idk about you, but I am getting better performance and battery life from ktoonsez's latest 7/19 version c kernel as compared to stock.

Just did a street view with Google maps and the 3d rendering is MUCH improved with the OC GPU in faux's kernel.....don't get me wrong it was pretty smooth before, but there is virtually NO lag now!

sorry for the super uber noob question here... but here goes: what exactly does flashing the kernel do? what do these two different kernels get me that others don't? i thought that the rom was the main thing you change to mod the phone.... this is confusing the hell out of me...

thanks, but i've searched already for some help but no threads seem to outline what a kernel actually does, just how to change them or that one is fast or awesome or great.... but what does a kernel control compared to a rom, and what are the different functions of each, and what does changing each get me? or at least, since this thread is specific to kernels, what are the answers to the above questions when talking about the kernel....
or should i just post a new thread asking this?
from wikipedia
kernel:
In computing, the kernel (from German Kern, nucleus, core[1]) is the main component of most computer operating systems; it is a bridge between applications and the actual data processing done at the hardware level. The kernel's responsibilities include managing the system's resources (the communication between hardware and software components).[2] Usually as a basic component of an operating system, a kernel can provide the lowest-level abstraction layer for the resources (especially processors and I/O devices) that application software must control to perform its function. It typically makes these facilities available to application processes through inter-process communication mechanisms and system calls.

the ROM contains everything needed to interact with the kernel, as well as all the applications you are familiar with using,

Hi everyone, I was just wondering if anyone has a good JB gaming combo? It has to be able to run all the big apps smoothly like dead trigger, N.O.V.A 3 and so on. A few tweaks wouldn't hurt, or a lot, also, currently running stock with VTA kernel. And trust me, I would love to experiment with all the ROMS posted here but I have a download limit that I have reached, all opinions welcome.
up for this. also looking for good rom and kernel combo. im on jellybelly 1.0.0 with latest thalamus kernel
Thanks, bound to be more people with the same problem, I tried to download Air kernel weekly but I don't know which as to click on.

For me is CM9 RC2 with Matr1x kernel the way better rom than any JB roms availible thise days. Its working so smooth and all games have good fps. Playing Order and Chaos without any lag

Interested in this as well. There's one way I can run Dead Trigger smoothly in my stock JB rom, go into Manage Apps -> Running, and Force Stop each one of them!
I posted a probable reason at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1816140
If there's a ROM that do not need me to Force Stop running Apps, I am all up for it!
you will have to try all the ROM available if you love to experiment...

I found One until a better one comes out, it's xenon HD with air kernel, credit for telling me goes to skavis, so say thanks. Also, playing dead trigger with no lag.

What's even better is crank it up to 1400 MHz and do the tegra 3 hack for dead trigger, and and get ultra settings. its amazing a 2 1/2 yr old phone can run it with all the bells and whistles. Try it out you won't be sorry. Just don't forget to plug your phone in

If you check one of my other threads, about my nexus s screen, I thing I didn't do it properly and caused the game and my whole nexus s to freeze, may try it later after re download, going to try some heavy games, I will report back if they work.
after trying lots of ics roms and kernels i found a good combination (if not the best) i posted about it with all the needed settings here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1726186
as for Jelly Bean i haven't tried lots of combinations yet so i can't really judge.
