Opinions? Currently running ktoonsez....but considering the move.....anyone else switch already?

Been using faux kernel for the past two weeks its really smooth. I would recommend it over ktoonsez. However they both are really excellent kernels.

Why? You can just say you recommend one over the other without saying why.. .

I would like to know this as well if anyone else has any input.
Well I flashed faux's kernel and everything seems nice and smooth....the only difference I can see/notice at this point is the max clock speed on faux's is about 60mhz less than ktoonsez....which I kinda prefer because I usually had ktoonsez set to 1809 and it would randomly switch to 1890 every time I ran MC3. Other than that...battery life seems decent enough...will only tell with time....no other pros or cons at this time to report
Scaling seems a bit more advanced in this kernel as well.

I would agree with you on the OC between the two, but KT also under volts to 192 and have a range of governors compared to Faux. Also using the smartv2 seems to be quite conservative and have the performance boost to scale from 192 to 1890 if you choose those settings. Faux was killing my battery whether OC to 1809 or 16??. I'm really enjoying KT and think it was a good switch from Faux, especially running with KyanROM 1.5. This is just my $.02.

Both kernels evolving. New kernels keep coming up - dozen a day.
I tried each with benchmarks and battery life. Nothing beats stock for now.

Can't comment on battery yet.....but doesn't seem too bad at this point. Gonna have to let it sit overnight to tell. As for the UV/UC of ktoonsez....unfortunately I have one of the "crap phones" that makes everything act all crazy...once you raise the voltage a tad it seems stable enough. Never said one was better than the other.....at this point from a basic use standpoint they are pretty equal....

You saying stock kernel performs better than both custom kernels? Because you ran benchmark tests to prove it?

But to get back on topic...it looks like I'm about to get approx 5hrs screen time in the new kernel...but will report what the drain is overnight....one thing for certain is....I have it setc to the max 1830 (ondemand, noop) and it is definitely running cooler!

thanks, but i've searched already for some help but no threads seem to outline what a kernel actually does, just how to change them or that one is fast or awesome or great.... but what does a kernel control compared to a rom, and what are the different functions of each, and what does changing each get me? or at least, since this thread is specific to kernels, what are the answers to the above questions when talking about the kernel....
or should i just post a new thread asking this?
from wikipedia
kernel:
In computing, the kernel (from German Kern, nucleus, core[1]) is the main component of most computer operating systems; it is a bridge between applications and the actual data processing done at the hardware level. The kernel's responsibilities include managing the system's resources (the communication between hardware and software components).[2] Usually as a basic component of an operating system, a kernel can provide the lowest-level abstraction layer for the resources (especially processors and I/O devices) that application software must control to perform its function. It typically makes these facilities available to application processes through inter-process communication mechanisms and system calls.

Sorry, my key board died last night and was to lazy to get batteries lol. That is pre-gingerbread. that was dark slide 4.2 oc'd to 1.3ghz after a full wipe and install.
My highest for GB just barely broke 1800 @ like 1807 iirc. that's oc'd to 1.2ghz. stock was 1776
I'm getting 2197 overclocked to 1300 with 69 vsel.
It's stable and I don't get unexplained crashes with GB.

I use Jrummy's app, exclusively.. it's given me better results than any other one. The 1.45 setting was taken out in recent versions, but there is a setting that enables "Legacy Frequencies". I used ULV 1.45Ghz preset, on performance governor setting for the purpose of this benchmark. I'm using the deodexed/rooted version of Gingerbread with P3droid's "preview of TranQ" 10% battery mod/CRT animation zip. I have roughly 40 things frozen with Titanium(things that do not hinder my daily use in any way). That's about it. I have something like 120 apps installed from the market, as well. Screen is set to 180 density, ads blocked.
Other than actually using the 1.45ghz setting, I did nothing to prepare for a benchmark, specifically.
I usually stick to the 1.15Ghz ULV setting for daily use, just because I have more need for a battery than absurdly fast speed, and really, who **needs** much higher than stock??

Hi guys! Lot's of threads are about "the best rom" or "best kernel and battery life" but there is no best rom or kernel. Everyone has his own taste Please share your favorite rom&kernel + your settings. and offcourse share your experience with performance and battery life
I'm currently trying out a few roms and will get back when I see some good replies here!

With rascarlos roms (Rascream before & Rasbean now) i always have 2 days. With very hard use...when i do corrections to my theme and flashing 10-20 times a day...have all day of battery.
On the road with my NexusS...
I'm going to try that as i too have rasbean jelly 10/10 build on my ns4g w/ marmite kernel 4.8.7. This combo plays very nice as well. I've had no reboots and the battery life gets me to about 24 - 32 hours of life. Going to see if i can actually beat that with Trinity kernel.
TNS11-JB-ALPHA12 is this the t11 kernel you use?
What are good kernel settings for marmite to get good battery life?

Well for the 4.8.7 version, the scheduler is CFQ and i use On Demand 200min/ 1000max. I use NS Tools to put the On Demand Sampling rate at 120000 to save battery. This works for me.

Ok, will give that a go!

I'm running cm10 m2 with marmite. So far so good. I'm on smartass max 1200. Very smooth

How can you use rasbean jelly on the nexus s 3g? I thought it only was for the nexus s 4G version?
Oh one more thing, what does that mean if i change the on demand sampling rate from 40000 to 120000?

Actualy rasbean is 3g, but ported to 4g by Rustyjay

I'm on The Strawberry rom now. Running very very smooth and I like the battery life aleeady after one day of use. This rom is based on the rasbean source!
CM9.1.0 with default kernel and settings.
It may 'only' be ICS, but it runs better than any JB rom/kernel combo that I've tried on my phone to date.

Hi all guys,
I'm opening this thread to submit a question to you (mainly to developers): I own an Asus ME301T, since from August 2013, and I also have an LG Optimus 4x hd - P880 (Tegra 3 chipset too). In P880 development forum, many developers provided kernels which allow CPU min clock freq to scale down to 51 mhz, and the possibility to manage cpuquiet and multicore power saving, too. Is there any possibility to have these features in ME301T (and TF300T, of course) kernels? I think these features could improve battery durability, and better CPU usage.. Thanks to everyone who will care about this and give an answer or a proposal!

cpuquiet is already part of even the stock asus kernel.
https://github.com/ebildude123/Geass-Kernel-TF300T/blob/master/arch/arm/mach-tegra/cpuquiet.c
Yes, of course, maybe it's tweakeable with some init.d script.. But I was referring to the possibility to implement in kernel some other features, too, like we have in LG Optimus 4x hd.. This is the link to the sources of the kernel I'm using on my LG, if some dev is interested to take a look for porting features on ME301T or TF300T kernels too: https://github.com/iodak/LG_X3_P880_v20a - credits to @iodak, of course
And here there are two trickstermod screenshoot, taken from my LG, where you can "graphically" see the features I'm referring to

I'll look into it this weekend if I have time. No promises, though.

I think it'd be a goal for everyone, here, reaching better optimization for our tabs.. so thank you, if you'll port some tweaks

Id like to point out the kernels can already under clock to 51mhz

On my tab, CPU min clock returns up to 204 mhz, right after underclocking it at 51 mhz

Old versions of Android on this tablet with OC abilities had SOD issues when min clock was set to 51 mhz.
Furthermore Asus put in some weird stuff into their kernels, which limits our ability to set our own clock speeds. That's where the whole "power saving, normal, performance" stuff came from. It will take some work but nothing is impossible.

Yes, you're right, I've read something about that..but considering that KitKat has been optimized to work smoothly and without problems even on low-specs devices, I think some developing could be possible, on this way..at least, on LG 4x hd it has been possible, so this is the reason I submitted to all you this idea

Actually in the latest commits to the p880-dev kernel adam and ntemis have replaced some LG performance handling with Asus's implementation,
https://github.com/P880-dev/android_kernel_lge_x3/commit/c898031e5654270a3da644b9c6d53e56a1a90e8a I havnt tested it, but looks interesting Sorry for OT
Nice device selection by the way

Hi mate, nice to see you here, too! It'd be awesome if devs working on Tegra 3 chipset devices will begin working together to maximize all the stuff, considering that Asus and LG are no more providing support to their "old" devices.. why don't create a common group, with the possibility of joining it by all Tegra 3 devs? It's only an idea, maybe it can help (?)
