What's with the sketchy serial number sticker? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it safe to remove the sticker? I'm a little OCD and already peeled it off once to fix the alignment because it was bugging me, but now it just looks like it's going to peel off on its own. I get the feeling Asus never intended it to be permanent, but I just want to make sure Google will still be able to RMA it in case I have any issues.
Edit: Sticker removed.

Take it off its nothing... the serial no is in the device too, or even on the box
Sent from my Nexus 7

Thanks, I removed the sticker.

This is what they did on the transformer too. Seems to be what Asus do.

Screen panel issues

Since the day I bought it, the glass panel is slightly raised on the left side. It's higher than the rubber line that runs around the tablet's edge! Back then, I thought it was nothing.
But today, I accidentally pressed down on that area, and the panel went to it's right position! A while later, that area popped back up again.
That's when I realised that on the left side of the screen, the panel wasn't flat with the surface of the tablet. Despite this, I face no issues with the touchscreen.
Is there anyway I can keep the glass screen down and secure? I don't want it falling of my fire one day....><

I would personally return it for warranty repair. I suppose you might be able to glue it, depending on how accessible it is, but in the future, they could refuse your warranty for a different issue if you attempt to repair this one on your own.
Issue is, I bought it from a local retailer cos it's not directly available her in Singapore through any other methods.
I guess it could be the heat causing the glass to expand...it does get really hot around the USB area while charging >_>

Call amazon. They will fix it and ship it for free. If your glass is bowing like that its defective. There is no way the heat from a charger would do that. Your screen is probably no longer sealed properly, which will ruin your fire because of dust and humidity

Yeah, Amazon should fix it, within warranty, regardless of where you bought it. Don't know if shipping to and from Singapore will be a problem, but it might be one you can work out.
Okay, thanks!
I will contact the retailer from which I bought my fire
Oh btw I have to revert to stock rom right?

Stuck pixel driving me nuts.

Hooray. Until today I thought everything was ok with my new tablet, but then suddently I used it a little with brightness maxed out and I noticed that I have a stuck pixel. Initially it was white, then, after running some random "stuck pixel fixer" app (the ones flashing your screen with different colours) it turned to green. So now I have a nice green pixel showing off on every blackish page. When the screen is very dim I can't really see it (that's why I didn't notice it at first), but when brightness is maxed out it's very noticeable.
I already had similar issues on my laptop, with a couple of white pixels appearing after a while I had it (not presumably out of the box, like with this one), and those luckily went away after a few days. I heard that in these cases there's not much to do about it, and I also guess that most of the tricks used with with regular LCD panels (pressing it, shooting it with pressured air, tapping it and all the funny stuff) don't apply here, since the panel is under a slab of glass. Some say that stuck pixels will eventually start working back again after some time, but I really don't know what to think.
Sending the device for repair it's not an option because 1) It's not worth it IMHO 2) I guess they won't replace a screen with a SINGLE defective pixel 3) I got it off ebay so things may get more complicated and I don't wanna stay without my tablet for the rest of my vacation.
Have your ever had similar issues on your devices? Please share yours, that will eventually make me feel a little better
Also, if you have some tricks to get rid of this stupid pixel feel free to share as well.
Damn this is driving me crazy, I'd try to ignore it but I literally can't! I keep turning on the device just in order to look at it and cringe, I think I'm going insane.
Btw, I attached a super zoomed, super blurry macro of the pixel, it's shot with my Lumia at a very close distance, sorry about the horrible quality. It should give you the idea tho...
Well, I had a dead pixel back in the day when I had PSP. It was almost in the middle of the screen and I can tell you, it was driving me insane .... but give it a week or two and you will get used to it
Now on my TF300, I have some tiny piece of dust under the screen and it kinda looks like dead pixel. Havent figured out a way to get rid of it but I dont care much about it.
I know its not much help, but theres not much you can do about it.

I don't think it's gonna work here, tablets have glass on top so you can't really apply proper pressure. You may even crack the screen if you try too hard

Lets say you play a movie right. Now pause and look at the spot from different angles and from above. I can totally tell by this that this dust or what is a bit above the screens.

Does it look bright on a dark screen, like eg the app drawer? Also, a dead pixel will always be black, even on a white screen, what I have is a stuck pixel, and by stuck I mean it's stuck on a single colour regardless what the screen is showing...a dead pixel can't be fixed in any way, while a stuck one may eventually be fixed using some tricks or simply fix itself with time. If the dot isn't bright nor black then it's probably a simple speck of dust underneath the screen.

I heard directly from Asus today. They told me that for tablets and phones a single defective pixel is enough to be eligible for warranty purpose. However they told me to contact the vendor first, because the item is still under their responsibility (I bought it a week ago). The vendor told me to send them an email with a copy of the warranty certificate/product code and report of the issue, possibly with a picture. If Asus validates the instance they'll send me a courier. However I guess I'll have to wait for a while before I hear from them, because next week everything is frozen due to holidays here in Italy. Oh well, no big deal. I'll just go on and use my "flawed" device while I wait
Edit: hmm, now that I think about it...my boot loader is unlocked right now. I know that this is supposed to void my warranty, but I've already heard of people succeeding in their claim when the fault of the product was obviously hardware. This should be the case as well...what should I do about it? The Asus guy checked my serial and didn't mention anything about my bootloader apparently, so I could be fine...

I really hope that the exchange device will be error-free. I've read from people who had to send in their devices multiple times, before finally getting one without faults... This would drive me mad

I would try and send it in anyway. The 'worst' case would be they send it back without repair/replacement, but I think there's a good chance that will not happen, because the error is hardware-related as you said.

hello,
I have a stuck pixel on my padfone 2 tabstation
I still can return it within 10 days, no questions asked.
According to your experience with asus do you think i should just return it to the shop without mentionning the pixel, or try to have a replacement with a warranty (that may not apply)
My wife got me a TF300T off Craigslist for Christmas with a similar problem, I have a group of bright pixels, it is with a white background. I'm going to try and contact the seller and see if I can get info on where he bought it and see what Asus will do.
I have noticed a lack of contrast on the screen, but I'm comparing it to a DROID CHARGE witch has way to much saturation on its screen.

Dropped and sort of working... Help?

THE HORROR:
Had my nexus 16gb plugged in on my bed, knocked it off and cracked the plastic bezel in a 1inch chunk. It still works! Sort of... Except for the backlight. The only way the backlight works is by putting pressure over the spot the bezel cracked in. When it does work, it now has screen bleed issues, and quite badly... The screen works at all times, touch works, the lcd works at all times, it seems to just be the backlight.
The question is: Has anyone had something similar happen? Should i try to get a replacement screen? Take it apart (I'm quite handy with mechanical things) and see if the display connection is loose? Send it to Asus saying "screen is bleeding, new Nexus please?" Then playing dumb about the damage?
Any help would be awesome!
P.S. I'm a Jr in HS, and used the money from my summer job to buy it, and don't have enough left over to buy a new one... Especially since i need a 16gb.

I would send it back like you said, and act as though you had no idea about the damage you just want a perfect device and light bleed doesn't = A perfect device.
That is if your sending it through courier, if you got it from a local store that won't work. As you can't blame it on the shipping :/
Gutted for you btw, dont take this wrong way but SHUDDA GOTTA CASE

I know I should stay out of this, but the same people that are advising you to lie about your damage are the same ones that would flame you for saying that you were using a torrent to get paid games for free.
Do what you feel is right.
Never told him to lie just said I hope it works out for him. I feel sorry for a kid that saved his money to buy the device and then has a accident. But I never told him to lie about it. Just to clarify.
Just so both of you know, I posted a couple of ideas with no real preference, and am probably gonna end up opening it tonight and seeing if the connection is loose. The question was about what you would suggest to someone in a bind like mine.
What was the warez apps about though? Just for a metaphor? (If someone asks me how to get paid apps for free i just tell them to pony up $.99, even if i do know where to get it.)

Also, about pretending not to know. They would figure it out instantly. I've also excluded a blatantly fraudulent idea (buying one from walmart, returning mine, and keeping the new one).

[Q] Nexus 4 replacement opened before shipped?

I can add pictures of the double taped box if anyone wants but basically it looks like my Nexus 4 replacement box has been opened and re-taped again. The first Nexus 4 I had shipped had only one set of black tape to seal the box but my Nexus 4 replacement has had the tape taped over as if the box has been opened. Has anyone else received a box that has had the first set of tape taped over? I sent google an email and the person I talked to told me that the device is in fact brand new and they do not sell refurbished devices.
Also, the sim opening tool bag looks like it has been opened and re-taped as well except not with an extra piece of tape this time but with either the original tape that came with it or another piece, but the bag is damaged as if it has been opened already. Anyone know what is going on with this? I have a feeling they may have checked the device to make sure there was nothing wrong with it, like the problem that made me send it back in the first place but I would really like to know the reason for this.
Please, anyone, if you have had the same thing happen or know why this has happened, please let me know!
Thanks for your time and interest.
Just check for scratches / problems. If it seems/ feels and responds well then don't break your head over it. If you have even the slightest scratch though, then do something about it. Otherwise I don't know if it matters

Well how else would the Fed have been able to install the tracking/eavesdropping software that is now monitoring your every move.
Honestly , mine didn't even have a sticker - bought before yesterday. But alone the fact that it had that front and back sticker (which after removing good luck putting it back on perfectly). left me with some confidence. I was worried at first but after seeing the state the phone is in I thought who cares as long as it seems new and has no scuffs/scratches. I can't stop emphasizing on how much I love my first nexus phone (3rd - 4th android phone). Simply gorgeous.

Condition you got your tablet in.

What's the condition you got your tablet in? Were there any defects?
Prostrate. Definitely prostrate. Tablet was perfect though. Mods - humor can only be suppressed so far.

Why do you ask?
Are people getting used, physically damaged ones?
Odd question. Regardless, my 32 gig unit from Memory Express in Calgary, Alberta was perfect, the box was in great shape, fully sealed and not damaged. The tablet had it's plastic protector wrapped around it, all accessories also as expected.

Maybe they're asking if it arrived without any defects?
IDK....
Mine was Ø defects.
I don't know exactly if this is suppose to be like this...But I've noticed that my N7 Gen2 arrived with these strange little "knicks", "dings" or indents...Whatever you wanna call them....Right between where the edge of my device is and where the screen starts.
It's a very minor defect if it is one...So I won't be returning it as everything else is perfect on it, and isn't exactly worth the hassle.
Like others, mine was factory sealed, the battery had about a 40% charge (I picked it up at a local Staples store).
My n7 came factory sealed but it has an oil slick on the back around the nexus label. In addition, I have noticed some of the reported problems with the gps and momentary freezing when I'm using a browser. Otherwise, I am quite happy with my n7.

Odd, I thought I was the only one. Picked mine up at a local Wal-Mart on a whim and was expecting a pristine N7 like my first four 2012 N7s. Checked the seals on the box just in case and they were all good, but was surprised to see what looked like a smudge/fingerprint on the screen after taking off the plastic (not mine, obviously) as well as little nicks on the top left edge right in between the screen and the back. Almost looks like as if someone tried to pry the thing open... the device itself works perfectly with no issues so I'm still trying to decide if it's worth taking a gamble and exchanging it for a new one.
Brand new. Still sealed. No issues or problems so far. 32GB Model Nexus 7

Picked first at Staples had been opened (seal on white box ropes) and plastic taken off abs it was already on. The screen was just off. In fact I looked at battery stats and it showed the tablet on just for a sec and not awake until 7 days later when I got it. I returned BC it had a dead pixel. Second was sealed and all however I am having multi touch issues. Just my luck.
