Has anyone noticed their back camera lens start to peel off? The top of mine pops up ever so slightly and I can push it back down. It'll sit for a while but come up again no matter how long I hold it.
Maybe I could some how heat it up enough to where the glue melts that I can hold it in place. I ordered mine online and really don't want to go through the exchange process. It would be like taking your baby back to the hospital after he's born for another two weeks.
You sure thats just not the protective plastic the a500 comes with ?
No, its certainly that black peice of glass (or plastic) that's over the lens.

That sucks! Did it just happen or did it get hit or was maybe left in a hot car or something?
I know you don't want to but I think its best to return it.

I'd like to see a pic.
It isn't the lense that is popping off, it is simply the plastic covering. Mine is popping a bit as well, think I'll crazy glue it down.
Yeah, its not the lens but I wasn't about to put "plastic camera thing is peeling" in the subject lol
Here's a picture

I really want to exchange it. I ordered mine online and picked it up at my local bestbuy store. I called the store and they said I couldn't do exchanges in-store for an online order. Bestbuy.com says differently. I emailed them both hoping to get a definite answer.

Wow. Discovered today that if I push on the back camera, even the slightest pressure, the camera doesn't work. The camera app shows a big green screen. I'm starting to think that it isn't the glass frame that's off but the whole camera module it self.
Add just a little more pressure and you can see distortion on the display opposite of where the camera is placed. There must not be anything between the camera module and the LCD.
Definitely sound like you got a defective model.
I wouldn't suggest anyone start putting pressure on the camera housing to test. It's not like they were built for anything other than it's normal function and day to day stresses.
agentdax5, return it however you have too. I wouldn't try and fix it or make it any worse. Just package it up and send it back.
Exchanged it today no problem but it looks like this one has the same problem...
Not as bad as before but still. Almost makes me want to return it and wait for a Galaxy Tab 10.1
Sent from my Droid using XDA App
I'd take it right back then on the next exchange, open it up in front of them and check.
Thanks for the advice. I should be going back tomorrow. They had 3 left when I went, hope they don't happen to sell them by then.

A total of 3 exchanges later i finally got one without the lens peeling!

I guess I was just lucky, no peeling here.

My device is in service because of that. When the new one has the same problem, I'm a bit pissed of. In my country this device costs 600$...

I ordered my A500 online and picked it up at my local Best Buy. When I got it home it had a 1.5 inch crack running across one corner of the screen. I took it back the next morning and they swapped it out (after I convinced them I didn't break it). There was never any question of how I ordered it or if I just came in and picked it up. You should report whoever at that store told you that to the manager, and if it was the manager report it to the home office. Times are tough enough without stupid employees running off customers over BS like that.
I don't have this problem
Tried to apply pressure to the rear and front camera while the photo app was open and no mishaps. As for surface peeling I've not had any such issues and frankly, after inspection, have a hard time seeing how any such problem would be possible.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA Premium App
mine is identical in the fact that its peeling. i just push it down might get some double sided tape to put it down better. no biggie.
While reading the conspiracy theories, defects, issues (you know the ones that you never knew you had an issue until someone else told you theirs) threads..
I got to wanting to know how many of the "hard to open" box owners have had any issues with their units.
I realized my original hard to open box unit had double/ retaped seal.
Might they have taken a few of the units out and done something to them prior to shipping. Perhaps a last min fix (not a firmware update, as my unit got them after I opened it) or was that just to stick the FCC sticker on?

This; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1775785&highlight=hard+unbox
There are more threads about having a hard time opening it, suggesting to use a blender, sledgehammer, microwave or little sister to get it open. Not coming up on searches atm tho...
Interesting. I can't say I had a "hard to open box" then.
Mine had 4 stickers on it .. one on each side of the box. After about 10 minutes of use ... my digitizer goes crazy and will not register in spots.
Mine wasn't exactly a slide-out easy open but it wasn't all that hard. I have no issues with mine.
Mine was exceptionally difficult to open, no issues with my unit.
Ah, that could be it? Makes sense.
Mine had been double taped back up, and left on to run down, so perhaps the screws had been tightened and they'd turned it on to test, without powering off.
Good theory.
With a box cutter I had my N7 out of the box in about 30 seconds.
Do people no longer use sharp objects to open boxes any more?
The box was most likely opened to add your account.

I find it hilarious people are basing quality of hardware on how hard it is to open a box.
For the record my box was low to medium hard to open and my nexus 7 is awesome.

It's all about the technique. Most people will squeeze the sides causing a suction making it difficult to open. The people with technique slightly pull out all four sides to loosen top cover, lift under the opposing corners of top cover and shake out the bottom. No problem getting it opened and got a perfect first unit. Second unit from B&H in transit.
Mine was ridiculously hard to push out, I slid a v v thin bread knife down all the sides, not much help, much application of even pressure got a tiny bit of movement enabling me to pinch the rim of the sleeve then mm by mm 1 edge at a time I got movement then it slid off, I've thoroughly inspected the device NO sign of any of the common issues and a very happy consumer.
Just for more emphasis the sleeve was on TIGHT, my collar is blue and my arms are strong but this was so tight I was concerned that tightness might cause damage.

The question is it perhaps those with the harder to open boxes was because of the retaping to reseal a unit that may have been fixed last minute after the fact?
Once I got mine out I realized the tape glue and additional unintended to the design thickness of the added tape caused it to stick to the sleeve.
My second unit slid out almost by itself. It too had double tape but it seems the gamestop employees had already slid the sleeve off before. The inner box had smege on it, the sleeve was less than pristine, as my original unit.

That is a good question. But mine was very difficult to open, I was surprised by it.
When I turned it on, it had my email and name there, I only had to enter my password.
Somehow it knew that unit was for my account.
My box wasn't hard to open at all. Yes the tapes were sturdy and can't be easily "cut" with your finger nails but it didn't stand a chance against my key. I opened my box in less than 30 seconds. Not sure what all the fuss is about.

If you ordered from Google Play, there was an option to add your Google account before shipping.
The outer sleeve on mine was extremely tight, tight, tight! But the box itself was a breeze. A perfect unit inside. Loving it.
THE HORROR:
Had my nexus 16gb plugged in on my bed, knocked it off and cracked the plastic bezel in a 1inch chunk. It still works! Sort of... Except for the backlight. The only way the backlight works is by putting pressure over the spot the bezel cracked in. When it does work, it now has screen bleed issues, and quite badly... The screen works at all times, touch works, the lcd works at all times, it seems to just be the backlight.
The question is: Has anyone had something similar happen? Should i try to get a replacement screen? Take it apart (I'm quite handy with mechanical things) and see if the display connection is loose? Send it to Asus saying "screen is bleeding, new Nexus please?" Then playing dumb about the damage?
Any help would be awesome!
P.S. I'm a Jr in HS, and used the money from my summer job to buy it, and don't have enough left over to buy a new one... Especially since i need a 16gb.

I would send it back like you said, and act as though you had no idea about the damage you just want a perfect device and light bleed doesn't = A perfect device.
That is if your sending it through courier, if you got it from a local store that won't work. As you can't blame it on the shipping :/
Gutted for you btw, dont take this wrong way but SHUDDA GOTTA CASE

I know I should stay out of this, but the same people that are advising you to lie about your damage are the same ones that would flame you for saying that you were using a torrent to get paid games for free.
Do what you feel is right.
Never told him to lie just said I hope it works out for him. I feel sorry for a kid that saved his money to buy the device and then has a accident. But I never told him to lie about it. Just to clarify.
Just so both of you know, I posted a couple of ideas with no real preference, and am probably gonna end up opening it tonight and seeing if the connection is loose. The question was about what you would suggest to someone in a bind like mine.
What was the warez apps about though? Just for a metaphor? (If someone asks me how to get paid apps for free i just tell them to pony up $.99, even if i do know where to get it.)

Also, about pretending not to know. They would figure it out instantly. I've also excluded a blatantly fraudulent idea (buying one from walmart, returning mine, and keeping the new one).

A relative of mine is in the US right now and will be coming back in about a month(hopefully Google will restock by then!). He is getting me two Nexus 4s, but he asked me if he could pull them out of their boxes because he knows for sure he will have practically no space in his luggage/bags for two boxes. (hes coming back for the holdiays, and everyone in the family wants a gift from the US).
So what I had in mind is that maybe he could fit two devices in one box ? I thought maybe if he removed the charger/usb cable from the bottom of the box, and whatever carboard segments left underneath then maybe he could fit two devices. I noticed that, like all phones, the nexus 4 is placed in a cardboard tray thing, so maybe if we push that down after removing whats underneath, another device(with its cardboard tray) can be placed on top safely. What do you guys think ? can anyone confirm this
Thank you!
and Happy Thanksgiving:laugh:
I mean, it might not be as safe packing multiple in there, but the box is big enough to fit in even 5 Nexus' you wanted to.
I'm sure it ll fit, but it increases the chances of scratches .
Sent from my Nexus 4
I see .. so the box does actually fit for more than one device, its just that its not really safe.
maybe holding the device with some kind of tape across can be safe(by making sure it stays in place)?
I know this sounds ridiculous to some of you but you know .. drastic situations call for drastic measures .
Just get some bubble wrap or something small enough and wrap one of them or both

Recently my Nexus 4 got scuffed but I'm not sure how. Should I return the phone as it also rattles with minimal shaking and was made in January despite it being bought just around 4 days ago. This is the first phone I've scratched and I am horrified. It wasn't even me who did it, my mother dropped it while I was showing her it but no damage occured . The scuff then happened later for no apparent reason.
I love the phone and hate to lie and send the phone back but I could say it was also down to the rattling I was returning it?
What should I do?

Get it phone case and kick your brother's behind. LOL. No seriously, get a case or tell your brother to get you a case.
The rattle you hear I hear it on mine as well. I feel like a little baby. Goo goo ga ga
The rattle is normal, its the camera auto focus (or the sim tray). Google wont accept a damaged phone unless you really do the dirty on them and say it came like that.
Seems like everyone with OCD owns this phone.
We have guys shaking phones like a etch a sketch, pressing against the back glass trying to hear cracking sounds, looking at the phone from awkward angles just to see if the the glass is separating from the rubber bezel and now we have a guy ready to commit a crime cause his phone has a scratch.
SMDH

But I'm not entirely sure how it scratched so easily. I'm mythed how it got there. I've never scratched anything before. Even without Gorilla Glass.
I'm also convinced it could've been the bumper. It rattles even when moving the phone and not shaking it. The scratch has just made me lean towards a replacement more.
Will Google accept a scratched phone with a factory defect?
Yes they would accept it back with a factory defect but they could just repair the defect and send it back to you still scratched as that is not covered
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
as someone said before, the rattling is normal. every n4 rattles. a scratch won't hurt you and seeing how you caused it i don't think you should send it in. you got this thing for 299 $ which is a steal, they sold 10 pieces of it worldwide because they can't rival samsungs broadway antics - why putting even more weight on their shoulders.
this is why I got a case as soon my Nexus 4 arrived. Lmao! OP is gonna lie for it. Sure why not. Blame the phone companies for making the phone so easily breakable or maybe its the nature fault for the way it works.

I only bought it around 3/4 days ago. I could request a replacement. There is no way a phone should've scuffed/scratched that easily. I like the phone and don't want to live with scratches. I've seen people return scratched Nexus 4s to shops and they've accepted them. No I'm not going to lie. It's just that the scratch has made me lean towards an RMA.

Yes she did but the scuff appeared a couple of days after. I still don't know what caused it. I would live with the scratch if it was my fault and was small but I did nothing to scuff/scrape the phone. The scrape is along the right convex edge.

Trust me the scuff wasn't there. I wasn't happy and inspected the phone in all kinds of light. I also cleaned it plenty of times.
I have just read two other threads today... one from someone who RMA'd a phone with shattered back glass that stopped working, but neglected to mention the broken glass. Another from someone who mistakenly connected a 12v car battery directly to the charging port and fried the charging circuit (among other things) and neglected to tell Google about that as well. I won't cite countless other post I have read from folks exercising similar behavior.
I almost feel sorry for Google... but mainly feel sorry for people who still play by the rules and take responsibility for their own actions as they will most likely pay for the unethical behavior of others via higher pricing and more hoops to jump through to get legitimate issues taken care of in the future.
I agree. I'm sure Google wouldn't take a phone back only because its scuffed. I'm sure the original poster will create some fake reason why he's returning the phone.

I won't. I hate liars as much as everyone else. Personally, I was expecting my mother to pay for it (which didn't go down well )
The volume buttons aren't easy to press and the phone's sim tray (not the lense) rattles with normal use. Another problem is a line on the top left edge on the phone (looks like a plastic mold mark). I do actually have plenty of reason to replace the phone. It's just the scratch has made me lean to a replacement more. Not only that, I received the phone 4/5 days ago and it was made early February; and without plastic nubs.
Do what you gotta do, whatever makes you sleep better at night. I'm not sure how Google handles returns but they could easily consider that as wear and tear deny an RMA.
