I fully endorse the Galaxy Note - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

I went to the beach today and put my phone in my shoes on some rocks near the water (yes I know, very stupid mistake) . A huge wave came and knocked my shoes along with the phone into the water. My phone was literwlly floating in the water for about 5 seconds. At that point I didn't care about anything else, and ran and scooped it out and ran to dry it with my shirt. I took out the battery, sim and sd card and left it for half an hour. Despite what just happened, it turned on, with still fully functioning touch, no water in the screen, just about everything works, except a major issue of the speakerphone and mic. But i tested it with headphone and hands free and it is working. Other than this issue, which IS a major issue, i am just amazed that it is still functioning 95% properly.
Does anyone know what I could do to fix the speakerphone and mic? Can I fix it myself by opening it up, or should I just send it to Samsung? Would they figure out its water damaged, and not fix it? Or would they fix it, but for a cost?

Try to put it in to the rice for 20-30 hours

Yeah I know about this trick. But that's usually if the phone doesnt turn on, or its going haywire which is not the case for me. Would it fix the speakerphone and mic?

I guess it's kinda late but I would suggest that you keep it off with battery, and sim and sd card out for much more than 30 minutes. Let's say overnight at a dry and warm environment.

It might help with many things. It helps me with mic and touch on my galaxy s two years ago. Screen was working and buttons too but touch did not respond and speaker was a half silent. After this rice procedure everything was fine.

You can bay Spare parts
I have changed my usb print-port, and i thing you can get trubble with charger, going beeb, beeb. showing your phone is on charger when not. Spare parts are cheap on ebay. I would get
"OEM Charger Port Micro USB Connector Mic Flex Cable Samsung Galaxy Note N7000" and
"Samsung Galaxy Note jack conn. flex with speaker"
You can get both parts for 28 US $. And your Note will be good as new. the usb port contains new mic.
If you are handy the note is a frendly phone to service.
There should be Youtube videos out there by now.

Last year in sommer i have a similar problemm with you. I have let my phone without batterie in my balconie in a shadow place for 2 days after that it works again. Outside temperatur was 30-40 C°. Give it i try if no one else have a better idee

myth..doesnt work... and for those who will disagree...please tell me how the rice cleans the corrosion that occurs when water hits the board when it is on..and i guarantee that happens.... all rice does is get dust in the ports... if it is not touching the liquid then it is not absorbing it any faster than it is already evaporating on its own... a fan will do 100 times better than rice... moving air=faster evaporation. then after its dry it needs to be cleaned and treated so the corrosion does not come back..
it needs to be cleaned and treated by a professional that knows what they are doing and has the right tools and chemicals...

The rice treatment is not a myth. When treated quick enough (same day, day after tops), the rice absorbs the moisture out of the device, and prevents corrosion from developing. Why does it work better than just leaving the device out in the open? the air around you has moisture, sticking it in rice creates a much dryer environment, so water dry up faster, and moisture get sucked out faster. A fan is moving air, but air with moisture in it. Unless you're in a desert. So, either rice or hair dryer on low heat setting and very carefully.
If it already has corrosion, nothing can really help.

is a MYTH and if you would like to argue im glad to in pm... as for the corrosion... if the phone was on when it got wet it has corrosion...100% guarantee so your whole point is moot... and again if the rice isnt touching the liquid it is not absorbing it hence it is evaporating at the same rate bottom line.... and since you want to try to debunk the fan...well the fan creates friction and the friction will promote faster evaporation whether the air has moisture or not... there is a difference between humidity and large areas of liquid... so again rice DOES NOT WORK... i work on these things for a living so i think i may know a thing or two about this...
im trying to help people save their phones so dont think im trying to stop diy... im just trying to show you a better way that actually works and is scientifically proven...
btw how long have you been working on phones??? just curious on your background... and please feel free to keep on using your rice.. even if your phone starts to work again... it wont be long till the corrosion catches up and your phone wont be working... your call because again i dont care what you do... im trying to help others that want help and good advice..not idiots that want to argue...
lastly if it has corrosion..i can make it work again.. i do it daily and make a nice living at it.. so i really dont think you should be giving advice on this since you say there is no hope if there is corrosion... sorry but it is what it is..

im sure it did... and i hope it makes you feel better believing that it did.... taking the battery out and letting it dry on its own would have done the same thing... either it didnt get anything wet that was electrical or it is just a matter of time before the corrosion catches up...
again just trying to help and again if you want to argue pm me...

The rice thing does work, although people misunderstand its purpose... It won't do a thing if your phone was damaged. It simply helps to take the water out of phone's chassis etc. - if it already touched the board and damaged the circuits, it won't do anything. Anyway, best to use silica-gel or at least salt crystals as they work ten times more effectively.

again it does not help... IF THE PHONE WAS ON WHEN IT GOT WET, IT GOT DAMAGED SOMEHOW..THERE WILL BE CORROSION SOMEWHERE... I GUARANTEE IT... if the rice is not touching the liquid then it is not absorbing it... unless you take the whole phone apart and i mean the heat shields and all and then immerse the phone in the rice it is not absorbing... and if you went to all of that trouble then rice is not necessary...
this is to all others who doubt my reasoning... please tell your # of years experience working on phones and your training....
again im not trying to argue im trying to help you save your phones when they get wet and for them to still be working a year or so later...
i prove it daily when customers bring in their phones to my shop in bags of rice that have been in there for weeks and still nothing... i do my method and they work... proof enough for me and my customers...

Have you even read my post, or just the first sentence ? It doesn't matter if the phone was ON or OFF. If water got through the case and touched the board while the battery was in - it's most likely fried, and even a ton of rice won't help.
If water never touched the board and got only on the case, or between the case, then it might help - not fix the phone, simply absorb the water from the case, so it won't pour on the board.
Anyway, it doesn't matter. Don't put it in rice... putting it in rice is the method for people who don't want to take their phone apart - but know what ? If you wet your phone, your warranty is void anyway, believe me - service will know what happened. Just take your phone apart as soon as possible, let it dry, and pray that water didn't reach the internals...

You probably want to wash the device's internal with really strong alcohol....the salt in the sea water is not good for the device....

I just don't get why the hell are people arguing over this? I don't care if it's a myth or not, if it works for you then good, if not, go find some other way around. Putting each other down won't change anything, neither the facts nor the opinions. Relax guys!?

Clean the DUST out from under the Screen! UPDATED W/ PICS

For those who are/have/and still experiencing specs of dust underneath the touchscreen....
... I will endeavor on a journey using iFixIt.com's Nexus One Teardown Guide. There will be no need to document me taking apart the device, however, I will be taking pictures of the dust, the location of the leak, me cleaning the device, and an attempt to seal the leak. I bought the essential tools from ifixit.com: Phillips #00 Screwdriver, T4 Torx Screwdriver, iPod Opening Tools. This came out to a total of $12.85. I then used a $5.00 coupon code (11221FIXIT) bringing me down to $7.85. There is no sales tax unless you live in CA. Shipping was $3.17.
Long story short - I was tired of looking at the dust, tired of the HTC folks say "sorry, you voided your warranty" and "sorry, we only send you a refurbished device, not your own or a new one". So, I spent the $11 and I'm going to fix it on my own. WISH ME LUCK.

*******UPDATE*******
Alright folks - I took the time out of my day to open my Nexus One and clean off the dust underneath the screen. I took pictures. Here is my assessment after completing this daunting task.
PROS
-NO MORE DUST!!!!!!
-NOOOOOOOOOOOOO MORE DUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSST!!!!
CONS
-Takes a lot of time (2.5 hours)
-There is now a smear on the bottom of the screen now - it can only be seen in direct sunlight
-Putting it back together is an ASS-PAIN. Such a pain in fact, by the time I was finished there were still 2 screws left, and 3 weird rubbery pieces that I left out.
The phone is back together and in excellent working shape
All in all, only do this if you have the amount of dust under your screen like I did. I am happy with the results but I think I want a BRAND NEW PHONE. Oh well.. Enjoy the pics.

Good luck, can't wait to hear what you find. Can you take pictures pre-doing this all? Specifically of the dust build up?
Ok, most important thing to do. Make sure you are in a clean room! Maybe even a Clean Room. Otherwise you will end up putting more dust in than you take out. Cheapest way is to run a hot shower and let the place fog up and then settle to get the dust out of the air. But probably not a good thing to open your phone while it is still fully fogged up as you'll get condensation inside it

Yes, of course I'll take pictures of the dust BEFORE I disassemble the device. And then I'll take the AFTER pictures when it's reassembled.

Awesome tip! Thanks.
yeah i cant stress enough to make sure you do this in a claean environment. i tried doing this with my nokia e71, and i never could get the screen lcd clean no matter what i tried! as i put it back together, little particles would just gravitate to it no matter what. i would wipe and try to quickly put it together, more dust. tried again, more dust. over and over.
here at work we have cleanrooms at a extremely high rating. if only i could use them to disassemble my smartphone.

if you get a nexus just press down on the bottom by the capacitive buttons. If the screen creaks or feels like it gives just follow what Uansari1 did and heat it with a hair dryer for a few seconds from like 5in. away and the press firmly around the screen. It will help to reseal.
oaky thanks ill keep that in mind
so its a pretty common problem then?
it was for the launch nexus', im sure (hopefully) they have it all sorted out by now.

i dont think it was a common problem at all. but then i have seen threads with many people havng this issue. so far my nexus has not had this issue at all and its over 3 months old. so i dont know. but i DO know that if you look in the iphone forums, dust under the screen threads are all over there too. even windows mobile forums have the same threads. so it seems like its a problem with most touch screen phones.

They put a $500+ hold on your credit card. They won't tell you that you will lose that money if you've unlocked your bootloader. My guess is, they're hoping you've voided your warranty, sent in an unlocked phone, and now they keep the money. I also asked them how much it would cost to repair it... They estimated $179. BULL****.. I KNOW.

Nah. Theres alredy a big thread about this. They do put a $530 hold on your CC. But the hold is gone once they receive the phone. If they WANT to charge you the its usually a $28 repair fee or you have a choice of sending back the replacement phone.

I have been selling a couple a week at the cell phone store I work for, and haven't seen this on a single one of those. I would say all in all, I have sold about 20 Nexus One now.
Personally, I think the issue goes back to these shipping out during January during the coldest period of the winter, even having freezing temps all the way into Texas... I suspect that that phones got cold enough that through contraction and added brittleness of the adhesive in a cold state, the seal broke.

FIXED: G2 Hinge Teardown/Repair

So, I decided to fix my G2 hinge which was a little on the loose side but didn't want to use magnets because it would affect the Compass. If you don't think magnets do affect the compass, i invite you to open up HTC or Google Navigation GPS app and wave a magnet around your phone and watch your direction change.
In any case, I looked for a teardown online in hopes that it would show the actual spring mechanism for the Z-Hinge...but all of them seemed to have skip that part. So...here's a photo of the ACTUAL MECHANISM responsible for the "snapping/springy" action of the phone. As you can imagine, assuming you can get to this point in terms of disassembly, tightening up the mechanism is SUPER EASY. All you have to do is take out the spring, stretch it, put it back in. I think the only way they could have made this mechanism smaller and more reliable is to have used a tiny hydraulic piston in place of the spring, but since I'm an EE and not a Mech Eng. well, what do I know!
<EDIT>

Damn...
Assuming you could find a spring small enough to fit you could buy a spring with a higher tension. That's what I did with my Ruger LCP to help the feeding cycle.
You could have taken a couple dissemblely pics to help us get to that point.
Thanks for the info.
Might want to add this voids warranty. Lol. Secondly if you could add some insight as to how you actually managed to disasemble the phone to access the hinge. That would be great. Might actually try this myself. Big might. Lol.

Tear down is here...
http://tjworld.net/blog/htc-desire-z-tear-down
You only need to tear it down as far as PCB Removal to access the spring mechanism in the hinge (its the top side near the power button). BE SUPER DUPER careful with PLUGGING IN the micro-SD ribbon cable when you reassemble. One of the spring tension pins (its a flip up type ribbon cable clamp), broke off on me. I was like OMFG for about 2 minutes until I realized it was just the tension pin NOT an actual connection pin.
Oh yeah, and for anyone that hasn't figured this out already...WARRANTY = VOID!!! Oh, and the normal CYA (cover your a$$ clauses) apply...I'm not responsible for any damage etc. etc. etc. that YOU might cause doing this fix/mod.

Now I havn't tried magnets on this phone (or any other).. but I do know that the magnetic strength of magnetic tape, such as was used in the other "fix" is not very strong at all, as it barely strong enough to work as the fix it was intended to do, for this reason I could believe that it had no effect on the compass.
However sure, if you use a proper magnet it will mess things up.
However, very nice job on this but I doubt many will want to void their warranty when they could just send it back under warranty and do it that way.

You are correct about the warranty. Although there are a few stickers on the torx screws that say void... they won't refuse your phone and claim that your warranty is voided. Its bs. They just check for eextremely obvious things like water damage and physical damage. I was a cell tech forever... they hardly care about that crap like is its rooted or whatever. Just don't make it too obvious like a phone stuck in a boot loop with cyanogen logo flashing over and over, lol!
But it does depend on the tech... if he/she is an asshole and dont root their own phones or hack... they could reject it. personally, I think those are the type that have no buisness being a tech nor would understand that rooting a phone is going to cause any serious damage to it. unless you flash the wrong spl/hardboot but at that point... 90% likely it wont even boot into bootloader in which there's no way to tell what happened whether it was a custom flash or a bad board. those are instant replacements as long as there's no physical/liquid damage. well, sorry for hijacking the thread and my poor spelling. good work with the hinge, OP! those ribbons can be a pain to reseat!
I'm doing this tonight @ work. Thanks for being the guinea pig.

dude great find....but way toooooooooo deep for me....If my hinge continues to drive me insane, I'll just start calling tmo like crazy until they give me a anew phone.
Stretching the spring is a good temporary fix. The best real fix would be to find one the same size but with a higher spring tension. Good find none the less.
So I HEARD something interesting today. TRY THIS....
1st: Turn Off Unlock sounds if you can.........
2nd. Put the G2 close to you face, open the screen (top) very SLOWLY.... when the screen is parallel to the keyboard (halfway) push it a little bit more and you will HEAR a CLICK..... im guessing its the spring... but my understanding is that if spring stays stationary (in one spot) and just twists..... there shouldn't be a click sound..... which means something is mis-aligned (maybe the hinge part that is connected to the spring)... my hinge came in good condition, still stays intact when I hold the phone upside down.
Those of you with loose hinge... I encourage you to try this....

Um .... click? misaligned? i think that if it twists, then it should be in good shape as it's doing what it ought to be doing.
Either way, my hinge sucks, and there is no click....
I was just thinking about what the teardown again. Now that I really consider it, I don't think that I had to unplug all the cables, just unscrew the PCB. I think there is enough slack to carefully maneuver the hinge out..maybe. LOL. Where do you get replacement springs? I guess I should really have measured the length...maybe I still can from my photo and a couple reference points.

Ignore the click...its not a "misalignment" of the spring or stars or whatever else. Look at the photo I posted, it doesn't matter if the spring twists. In fact, I'm pretty sure it does swivel and move in there. The back end of the spring is simply braced against the metal side. The other end against the actual "pivot" (2 pieces of very smartly cut plastic) is "centered" in place with a small pin jut like most other hinge/spring mechanisms.
Now if someone could tell me where to get a super strong spring...I'll be all over that! LOL. It was already really hard to get the spring back in after I stretched it but a mega strong one would be worth the hassle...

[Q] Wet S4... won't turn on...

Riding the motorcycle home tonight I got drenched for about 6 miles... normally not an issue and never has affected my phone in my back pocket before... but for some reason tonight was different...
about a mile from my house my music stopped working and didn't think much of it... but when I pulled into the garage and found my s4 was a bit wetter than normal and would not turn on my concerns grew...
Currently have the entire thing apart.. batter... case... even sim and microSD card out... there was not a lot of visible moisture on the inside... but I did find a few drops on the SD card once removed. Also the phone will not indicate a charge by led or on-screen.
I'm letting it dry out as much and as long as I can... other than just waiting it out... any tips somebody can give me? anything phone specific that I could do to help it turn on? (power+vol up+home something?) and is there a wet indicator on the phone some place? above the SD slot there are 2 brass connectors and a bright pink dot in a hole above them... is that anything unusual?
The phone does have liquid detectors. If you tried to turn on the phone you probably fried it. If you didn't turn on the phone yet leave it in ziploc bag with rice for a few days.
Put it in a jar of dry white rice for 24hrs. It will absorb all the mosture .. one of my friends drop his g3 in tolit and he did that ...booted again...trip..

You beat me to it...damn...
If your daring enough you could try opening the phone and use 99% isopropyl alcohol (technicians alcohol) to clean the parts. Alcohol displaces the water so as you use a small brush (we call thrm acid brushes....not sure what the 'normal' world calls them) use a single ply tissue to absorb the water/alcohol.
Does anybody know where those liquid detectors are? are they visible with the back cover and batter out?
Thanks for all the quick responses... I will try the above and see how it goes... this is my primary way to be contacted and after just a few hours I already feel cut off... its also how I make my money (being on call.... work can't call... I can't make money!) so I'm looking at resurrecting old phones... but I was hoping for a quicker solution... but I'd rather take my time and save my phone... I was hoping the battery went dead... was yelling at me earlier... but obviously not the case.

There is no quick solution. Keep it in the bag of rice as suggested, and leave it for at least 24 hours and I would even say try to go well beyond that for as long as you can hold out. Gotta make sure as much moisture as possible gets sucked out before trying to turn her over.
(What kind of bike you ride?)

I had a coworker do this.
put it in a bag with the moisture absorbers, silica gel, he left like over night in a zip lock and in the morning it started working again.
I would do the bag of rice or moisture absorbers as others mentioned. The worst thing you can do when a phone gets wet is plug it in or try to turn it on. It seems you tried both. Hope for the best. Next time, if ever there is one, if you see your phone is wet, quickly dry it up and take it apart as much as you can. Kill any power going to it (ie. remove the battery immediately). Then place it in a bag with rice or other moisture absorbers. I would leave it a day or two. Make sure it's fully dry. If you are brave, take a torx bit to it and open it up. Make sure everything is dry inside. Put it back together once it's dry and try to power it on. Most cases this will work. I hope it works for you. Sadly it's on the heels of the leaked image of the waterproof S4.

Because the sim is too small? Just line up the gold contacts. I was able to get the microSIM working in my old captivate which takes a standard sized SIM just by carefully lining it up.

Could also go to a local AT&T store and have them swap you to a full-sized SIM for a few days, if they're willing to work with you. Some reseller stores (non-corporate) may charge a nominal fee for the card. Keep in mind that once they deactivate a SIM card, it's toast.
But as the others have said, electricity to a wet device is typically fatal, so keep the battery and charger out as long as you can. As for the red/pink indicator: your warranty is now void. I've heard of ways to "bleach" the indicator, but I'd imagine that might be against XDA rules to even speak about. Also, check out some of the disassembly vids out there, they may be helpful in getting the water out or finding more indicators. *shrug*

See that pink dot? That means the phone got wet... it should be white.
Trust me, I know. I dunked a brand new 32gb S4 into the pool on the day it was released and had to buy a brand new one at full price later the same day. Most expensive upgrade ever.

I demand this person gets banned for disclosing the bleach-to-indicator trick that hits Samsung hard on the pocket chipping away at the multi-bil dollar profits. What's next? They will demand an apology for little memory? a recall for easily breakable screens? What a nerve.

That "trick" is pretty well known by the manufacturers. It may get by people at the store but the phone sent back to Samsung can be checked with Orthotolidine and show evidence of chlorine from residual sodium hypochlorite it will be billed to the original customer. Since it's obvious fraud further (legal) action may be taken so be warned before trying these "tricks".
according to the tmobile site, there should be a sticker somewhere in the back of the phone, and red/pink means water, white means normal

Actually, not a LOL at all (well maybe a chuckle), but it is a well known practice to avid motorcyclists to keep a few Ziploc baggies with them for such uses. I use to ride with a regular Garmin GPS mounted on my bars (before Smart phone days) and a Ziploc baggy saved it many times...and still let me use it at the same time. They save wallets, phones, and anything electronic small enough to fit in them.

Im super bummed. I dropped mine in the toilet about 6 hours ago. I was half asleep so all I did was put it in rice. I started googling and saw to turn it off an take the battery out. I just tried to turn it on and all it does is pulsate. I have a bad feeling I ruined my phone......and no insurance

Xperia Z1 experience

Well, hi there, nice people of the XDA forums,
I have been using my shiny new Z1 for a month now and here's my opinion on it. It is awesome. Good battery life, beautiful screen and build coming from a Xperia V user.
I've loved every second of using it after i got used to its large form.
Sadly, my Z1 has now been returned to the service centre since I bent it. I got to admit, when I first saw people posting images of their bent Z1s and saying that no external forces were imposed on the device, I was like "which dumb guy will believe that a phone made of aluminium would magically bend itself?", but after 1 month, unfortunately, I realised my Z1 was bent horizontally above the power button. It was hard to notice at first as I had it in a roxfit gel shell, I think that's what it is called, but when I removed the case, I had a huge shock.
Later that day, I sent my Z1 to my local Sony centre, I live in Singapore, and apparently, there have been many cases of this happening here but the lady was reluctant to tell me if the damages could be covered warranty.
So, here I am, writing this post to remind my fellow Z1 lovers to never ever ever put you phone in a region that is really tight and moves a lot, for example the pockets on your jeans, as you may come to regret it.
P.S. I'm just posting my experience with it so far, if I am on the wrong section, feel free to yell and get a mod to move it.
P.S.S I'll update this as the service centre gets back to me.
Timeline:
23/1/14 - Day 1 - Sent Z1 to service centre.
25/1/14 - Day 3 - Received email that service centre has started repairs
20/2/14 - Day 28 - Finally, after a lot of emails between me and Sony and even longer waiting time for emails, Sony has finally got back to me.

I've neen through quite a few phones, a W595, W995, iPhone 3G (unfortunately), a Galaxy S2 (also unfortunate), arc, arc s, V, then finally my Z1.
And ironically, I've only sustained serious damage in the last 2 phones, ie, the V's flaps coming off and, of course, my z1 bending. Funny how as time passes, their life spans decrease.
Day 4 Update - 26/1/14
Well Sony finally got back to me to tell me:
1. Frame bending is nor under warranty
2. I have to replace the screen
3. It will cost me SGD$405 or USD$320
Being the broke student I am, I'll probably sell my z! then buy a nexus 5.
Seriously the crappiest warranty coverage ever.
After a long long time with Sony, this has been a major bite in the ass.

Well to be fair, I'm pretty sure the warranty covers manufacturer faults, not the user making a fault. If I drop my phone and kill it, why should the manufacturer cover the costs? Trouble is when the person honestly hasn't damaged it through their own fault, in which case proving to the manufacturer you haven't is pretty much impossible. Unless you wear a GoPro all the time or something.
You would be looking for insurance cover, or some kind of extended warranty/protection that covers user inflicted damages.
Either way, I'm careful with my Z1 in my pocket now, especially when sitting down

It still works. By my calculations, I cant afford a nexus 5 even if i sold the z1 at half the retail price, which means I'm stuck with a banana phone for 11 months. Guess I'll just put a book on it or something until the phone returns to the normal shape or until the screen shatters.
Will update. :/
i don't know what to say... this bending thing is wierd...
i bought my z1 from singapore over ebay and i have it for two month now. i keep it in my jeans front pocket the whole day, sometimes i have my GF sit on my lap and on the phone and it's still straight as an arrow... i have a soft tpu case protecting it...
i don't think physical pressure is at fault here, must be either overheating or manufacturing fault...

Overheating would be a very strange one though, I would expect issues with the glass splitting like with the XZ before the aluminium frame warping. The phones get hot, but not that hot. If it was getting hot to the point it may soften and warp, you would probably have cooked the battery and the CPU/GPU as well. Not to mention it could take time for it to warp.
I know someone who had an Xperia S, and they would hear it crack every so often when they would sit down, or bend their leg. No damage to it, but obviously something wasn't liking the pressure. Meanwhile I had an XS, never heard it make noises like that. But then I always have loose pockets, whereas my mates phone was wedged into his pocket, tight as.

net nessecerly... if the aluminum frame is made by chipping it can be made is a bad way causing internal forces inside the aluminum, these forces need not 500 degrees to alter it's shape, i'm not talking about the frame melting.
just a small temperature, 50-60 degrees is enough to give the frame the energy it takes to relive these internal forces and bend itself...
this is why i said manufacturing fault, because if some of the frames were made in one factory which did the chipping wrong and others in another which did it right it can explain why some devices bend and some don't. and it has nothing to do with external pressure...
if you want to google go for "strain tensor"

Took galaxy s7 edge to poool.

Man that was awesome ! Took many pictures and video I took a swim for 2 to 3 hours today. Took it out for a 30 minute breaks twice, it works great! One thing to be aware about is your speaker will sound muffled for a good 3 to 4 hours! At least mine did glad sound came back had me worried there for a momment. Moral of the story you will have absolutely no problem taking your s7 edge to the pool for a full day of fun, your speaker will eventually come back to normal. Actually sounds better haha, maybe phone is water proof?!

Yeah lol that's what I did I used thevolume button and it worked great. As of now phone is functioning properly. Not worried about what happens a week from now to it because I'm not worried, as I was fully confident my phone will handle being submerged into the pool and water slide with the only problem being my speaker. I didn't however realize it will take 4 hours for the speaker to dry.

Basically it's good for 30 minutes to 5 feet of water.
Samsung doesn't warranty against water damage so even they have little faith in their water resistivity. It should be used as insurance and not for underwater photography. This is just the tip of the Iceberg as there are many posts like this...

I think they don't want people deep sea diving and trying to warranty their phone when it does get water in it. I have personally took a shower letting the water hit the phone while trying to install a screen protector. Phone was fine honestly, even did my gear s2 the same way. Only problem I noticed was the speaker and microphone not working after for an hour or so
I was in Cancun at the end of April, and I used my phone in the pool, and took underwater video and pics like a mad man. Phone works perfectly fine, never have had any issues with it after being submerged.
Just make sure you let the phone dry completely before trying to charge it.

"It voids warranty ???? Yada Yada Yada" who cares. I have not onces had to return any phone for a warranty exchange. And with a water resistant phone you think we don't want to use it under water? If you don't have the balls big enough than don't do it. I could care less. Letting people know that YOU CAN SWIM WITH YOUR S7/S7 EDGE if you choose to do so.

That's irresponsible to claim this when there are many examples of the S7edge getting water damaged. I'm glad yours didn't get water damaged. Now don't be a **** about it.
Used my device in the pool a few wks ago also no issues. Speaker sounded like $&jt for a few hrs but after a while sounded normal. One thing to plan ahead is u wont be able to charge device soon after its submerged as it will throw a moisture detection msg and u'll have to wait till its completely dry. Or u can do what i did n use a blow dryer to expidite the dryness. Lol. Just dont fry ur phone.
I haven't seen any reports of water damage from pools, on the contrary everyone saying they did it with no problem

If you search S7 and S7 edge water damage, you will find many examples. Just use a little caution if you're like me and $750 means a lot to you.

Lol 750 is a lot to me too bro. I babied this phone for the first month. After that I used it without case lol have nicks around my phone but I'm not trippin. Your phone wouldn't damage man take a shower or go surfing with it you'll be golden I'm not sure I'll swim to the bottom of the ocean for the phone though. It's cool to be cautious. I had that mentality it'll brush away soon lol

I've done under wateriyaki photography and videos on 4 separate occasions and it's worked every time.and flawless since. It's manufactured to do so.
I just came back from a whole week cruise vacation, and let me tell you! this phone is awesome every day pictures in the pool under water and phone works without any issues, like before make sure you dont go too deep.
Mine went for a trip in the washing machine last night for about 30 minutes before I realized it and took it out. Works perfect. Speaker took about a day to dry out, but over all I'm damn impressed.

I just got back from a trip into the mountains around Boone NC. I did a lot of fishing and river tubing with my phone in my pocket the whole time. I didn't use the phone under water but it was in my pocket while I fished the Watauga with the water up to my armpits. I did see a popup on the phone about water being detected but haven't experienced any issues the phone. I got some good pictures and video that couldn't have been gotten even with my go pro as the sound with the phone is perfect. I took a chance but in this case it was worth it.

No, it isn't. It is manufactured to withstand a certain water immersion depth and length of time in a static environment. Actually using it, ie: moving it under water, pressing buttons, etc can easily go outside of the specifications. Not to mention it is in no way rated for underwater use, its water resistance is designed for some protection against accidental exposure.
Point is this, it is your device and you should use it as you please. But to suggest that it is in any way ok or that it is designed to do so is extremely irresponsible on your part. For starters it is wrong, and your warranty will be voided should any water immersion be detected. I'm pretty sure there are indicators built in for Samsung to know what you did.
