I have spent about a month researching T-Mobile and have developed this guide to help everyone who needs the answers to the same questions I had. Soon this guide will be put into a PDF version that is all snazzy looking and will be updated as much as possible. Please note: I am a father and husband with my own business, so I am busy but ALWAYS mobile, feel free to PM me.
I am trying to list the best phones with the top specs in this thread. If I helped you at all, please thank me.
*** All phones confirmed working on 4G may depend on the coverage for your area.
If you have any changes or things I can add to this please PM me and DO NOT post it here. I will update the thread with credit to you!
Update 06/23/2013
Thanks to an awesome member, ozzmanj1, we have now added the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY R800AT to the list of working 3G/4G devices.
Update 03/20/2013
There will be a website dedicated to T-Mobile Network Phones I am building because I love T-Mobile that much Customer for almost 10 years now. That is already under development.
There is a new prepaid company using T-Mobile towers, I am in contact with many reps, they are called Solavei. It is an amazing opportunity to get money by referring people to join Solavei.
SOLAVEI - You pay $49/mo for 4GB of Data (no caps), Unlimited Everything Else. - I have used their service and I love it. The incentives to get friends to join and family, and even get paid for it, epic. I have made money and continue to, great setup. You can get to the point where you have no phone bill, PERIOD. I'm almost there xD

TERMS
GSM // (Global System for Mobile Communications) Also known as 2G, EDGE.
EDGE // EDGE is the new name for GSM 384. The technology was named GSM 384 because of the fact that it provided Data Transmission at a rate of 384 Kbps.
2G // Also known as GSM. Short for second-generation wireless telephone technology. Second generation 2G cellular telecom networks were commercially launched on the GSM standard in Finland by Radiolinja (now part of Elisa Oyj) in 1991.
3G // Short for third Generation, is a term used to represent the 3rd generation of mobile telecommunications technology. Also called Tri-Band 3G.
4G // The fourth generation of mobile phone mobile communications standards. It is a successor of the third generation (3G) standards. A 4G system provides mobile ultra-broadband Internet access, for example to laptops with USB wireless modems, to smartphones, and to other mobile devices.
HSPA // an amalgamation of two mobile telephony protocols, High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) and High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA), that extends and improves the performance of existing 3rd generation mobile telecommunication networks utilizing the WCDMA protocols. A further improved 3GPP standard, Evolved HSPA (also known as HSPA+), was released late in 2008 with subsequent worldwide adoption beginning in 2010. The newer standard allows bit-rates to reach as high as 168 Mbit/s in the downlink and 22 Mbit/s in the uplink.
NETWORK BANDS & FACTS
T-Mobile offers GSM service in both the 850MHz and 1900MHz frequency bands.
T-Mobile utilizes the 1700MHz, 2100MHz, and 1900MHz frequency band for their 3G data network.
T-Mobile utilizes the 1900MHz frequency band for their entire network. (EDGE, GPRS, VOICE, TXT)
Europe and most of the world use the 900MHz and 1800MHz frequency bands for GSM. For a device to use T-Mobile USA and work in Europe, it would need to support the 1900MHz band and one or both of the 900MHz and 1800MHz bands used in Europe.
CHECK THE BANDS!
EDGE, GPRS, VOICE, SMS/MMS > 2G GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
3G/HSPA: 850/1700/1900/2100 MHz
AFTER BUYING
CHANGE YOUR APN
Most of the time only International phones will need this step, but you should still check if your 3G is working before this step.

Yes, also the ATT SGH-i717 Note1 works as well. same radios can be flashed as well. So will sim unlock both phones work on T-mo. Some, like me, have better luck with T-mo radios that can be flashed.

I think it needs to use the fast.tmobile.com APN. Check with Howard Forums user milan03. He seems to know his stuff.
Found this thread and wanted to add that I have an unlocked Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY R800at that I am using on Tmo in Davis County UT (North of SLC) and I get hspa+ on it. Generally consistent speeds of:
5-7mbps down
1-3 mbp up
Been pretty pleased
Hello,
Thanks for this great thread!
I will go for 1 month in USA during holidays and I would know if my (European) HTC One X+ (witch is unlocked) will works on T-Mobile 3G network...
The HTC One X+ is announced as compatible with these bands : HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
And accordind to the first post of this thread, T-Mobile 3G network is using these bands : 3G/HSPA: 850/1700/1900/2100 MHz
It seems that my HTC One X+ is not compatible with the 1700 MHz band... so do you think that my HTC One X+ couldn't be connected to T-Mobile 3G network... or maybe the compatibility with the others T-Mobile 3G bands are enough?
Many thanks in advacne for you help!!!
My cell provider uses 1800 frequncy for 4G LTE and I read some where that the nexus 4 uses 1700 or something .. So my question is am I able to connect to 4G somehow ? I live in kuwait and my provider is called "zain"

Its a hardware limitation as there are no signal amplifiers and filters installed except for band 4 AWS which are included in the chipset. This works basically only on T-Mobile LTE at 1900 MHz in the US. This issue has been discussed to death in this forum and is very old news.

Turns out some AT&T markets use the AWS band for LTE, spectrum problems I hear. So in some markets you may get att lte on this phone.

So.. correct me if this is wrong; the Nexus4 supports AWS HSPA+ out of the box (aka T-Mobile), but also can be modded to support LTE on the same band- which many other carriers besides T-Mobile use.
This is very rare, isn't it? Because in every other commercially-released device, these two features are pretty much mutually-exclusive. If you buy a phone that supports AWS out of the box from T-Mobile or a Canadian carrier like Mobilicity it has no LTE support because those carriers don't offer it. If you buy a device with LTE support from a larger carrier like AT&T or Telus, it has no support for AWS at lower speeds because its carrier doesn't use them.
So the Nexus4 would be the only device to support both these carriers at maximum network speeds?

I am thinking I'd switching to T-Mobile and I am wondering is the nexus able to pick up both 1900 pcs and aws. I remember reading that you could only change the profile to one or the other. Has that changed or is there a profile for all three. I kno the pcs spectrum would probably help allot with my coverage but I don't want to have to constantly change profiles if that's the only way to use it
Thanks

The option to force one band over the other is broken in stock ROM for now. It doesn't matter though, by default it will work on both AWS and PCS. T-Mobile has no 850 MHz HSPA service, only some 850 MHz GSM roaming agreements. I think it prefers AWS over PCS, as I am in a refarmed market and based on speed tests, only HSPA+42 (DC) could achieve my results. Check the TMO coverage maps first and be sure you are in an Excellent coverage area, otherwise service indoors may be an issue. Contrary to the belief that PCS vs AWS is better or worse at penetrating buildings, they are basically the same (1700/2100 vs 1800/1900). Tower distance and configuration are the main issues.
Isn't 3G coverage on 1900 still incredibly limited anyways?

Yes, that was me and as usual, Verizon has no clue what they are talking about.I'm not returning my WiFi model but if I had known this would be out within 2 weeks of my purchase, I probably would have waited. On a 2 year it would have been almost the same price as the WiFi. Not like I'm ever leaving Verizon anytime soon due to their network in my area being better than any other carrier..

So I just came from Verizon to check out the tablet. I went into settings and tried to do a system update, I didn't get the error that some people with P905 were getting about being custom. The update check came back ok, the system is up to date with the latest software. I went into download mode, everything was 0X0, nothing tripped of course but I couldn't figure out how to check if the bootloader is locked. I couldn't find the Phone app or the SMS text messaging app so I'm assuming this version cannot make calls.

Here are the Note Pro 12.2 Network specs:
Network: LTE Band 13/4 (700/1700 MHz)
Global Network: EDGE/GSM (850/900/1800/1900), HSPA/UMTS(850/900/1900/2100))
I hope someone smart here can let us know if this will work with AT&T or T-Mobile (Barry!) I see it has the 700, 1900, and 2100, but I don't know if bands 13/4 are compatible.
Let me see if I can help you out.
Here is some detailed information on their support site for what frequencies T-Mobile supports and what is required to use their network.
T-Mobile network & coverage details
T-Mobile 4G LTE
T-Mobile's advanced 4G LTE network is smoking fast! With incredible speed, you can do more using our nationwide 4G LTE network. Check our 4G LTE markets to see if you're covered.

Received my Verizon Note Pro yesterday. Activated without any issue. I've only used LTE a little bit on it, speedtest wasn't overwhelming, but that was probably a cell issue. Other than that, seems pretty much like the wifi version I've played with. Oh, in case anyone thinks about it, if I had to do it again, I'd skip the "travel bundle". I don't tend to use screen protectors, the vehicle charger is only 1A and even says on the box "Not designed to charge a tablet", and the Speck case is ok, but not great. (Not sure how long the clasp is going to last.)
One potential difference from the wifi model - this one supports 802.11ac. I don't remember seeing that for the wifi model?

It should once it's unlocked. These are the bands for the Latin American LTE's tabs that support 700MHz. I'm guessing the non-700MHz bands are the same for both AT&T and VZW's branded devices. The loss of 800/1,800MHz which are on the international LTE devices will screw up Europe and Asia as some big carriers there use one or both those bands.

AT&T uses band 4 for 1,700MHz like VZW but uses band 17 (vs. VZW's band 13) for 700MHz. Historically, putting a AT&T LTE SIM in a VZW device hasn't worked so I'm assuming both bands must be supported by the radio for both uploads and downloads. T-Mobile uses the 1,700MHz band 4 channel singularly and unlocked AT&T devices have gotten T-Mobile LTE and vice versa. I haven't read anything about VZW devices with T-Mobile LTE SIMs connecting via band 4 but on paper it should work. Band 4 is band 4.
Bands supported for LTE are exclusive to LTE. To get full T-Mobile GSM data coverage the GSM part of the radio would also need to support 1,700MHz which it doesn't. So GSM would only work in T-Mobile markets that have been refarmed to 1,900MHz. Unlocked, the radio in the VZW N12 would fully support AT&T's GSM data network.
One other difference between Verizon and WiFi versions - the Verizon unit doesn't get some of the offers that the WiFi does. No remotePC, no 50 GB dropbox, etc. Does get the Google Play store credit, and Gogo, but that's about it.

As for calling/sms, not that I've seen so far, but calling/texting from my tablets has never been a requirement for me, so haven't paid a lot of attention.

I didn't need to create a new account to get the 50GB on Dropbox. I just logged in with my account info and now have about 53GB

i believe he meant if you had already had the note 10.1 2104 edition and got the dropbox offer 1st time so you can't add another offer to same account as you would need another account to receive the new 50 gigs
Exactly what I meant. Thanks for clarifying.

How's the performance of the Verizon Snapdragon 800 compared to Exynos especially pushing 2560x1600 resolution? Can you post benchmarks for Anomaly 2 benchmark and Epic Citadel at highest settings?

I don't have a WiFi model to compare against, but subjectively I'm happy with the speed and it seems to handle full screen video content well. I'm not into tablet benchmarking so don't have the tools/methodology (desktops, on the other hand...) to provide anything objective.

We can extrapolate from Note 3 which is 1080p. Anomaly 2 benchmark and Epic Citadel are actually useful since they're not synthethic benchmarks but actual game engines. They're free to download from Google Play. Do us a favor and run them at highest setting and report score or fps. My impression of the Exynos is that its graphics performance is weaker so it'll have a negative impact on UI experience which should be solved with Snapdragon Verizon variant.
I have a rooted N9000 india 3g model.
I am shifting to USA next month and planning to use T mobile network.
I know N9000 doesnt support 4G/LTE but will the 3G network of T mobile work with my handset?
Contacting customer support they said that for high speed connection i need to have both 1700&2100 band on my mobile, but none of the note 3 even N9005 doesnt have 1700 band.
quoting t mobile "As per using a non T-Mobile device though he needs to make sure that the phone is completely unlocked. Also, non-T-Mobile phones without the AWS 1700/2100 band will not work on on T-Mobile's 3G / 4G network due to band limitations. In order to connect with the 3G / 4G network, a device needs to use both of the AWS 1700/2100 bands (not just one or the other)."
im confused whether to take my phone or not?
