Motorola is beginning a soak test for the VZW Xoom. Anyone get the email from Motorola yet? You figure it has to be ICS.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk 2
Wow, nobody gives a **** huh? Surprising! haha
It's about friggin' time the VZW Xoom gets ICS considering the WiFi-only version has had it since January.
Nah, I told Matt and the rest to suck it the last time they asked. I didn't pay a premium to test their ****. I'm sick of the 'ship now, treat them like crap, patch later and watch them kiss our feet' attitude these companies seem to have. I let them deal with the Better Business Bureau and the FTC. I'll test stuff for developers here but VZW, Moto and Google just need to stay out of the way as far as the Xoom is concerned.

haha, everyone probably already rooted and installed it.
such a shame it took so long. and now JB is coming up soon. Imagine how long (if) it will take VZ users to get it. Glad i went with the wifi version.
Yeah but even with the custom ROMs, they're all based on Honeycomb telephony code and honeycomb proprietaries that are hacked together to work. When ICS was first released, I remember the devs having a hell of a time getting 3/4G working on the Xoom because of that.
So theoretically, a VZW Xoom ICS update should make the custom ROMs better as well because they'll be using proprietaries specifically for ICS, plus new radios are always good. I just hope it doesn't include a new bootloader. If it does, that makes going back to Honeycomb (if so desired) a pain in the ass.
Why wait?
On the bright side, once ICS officially rolls out, the good devs could integrate the new proprietaries into their custom roms.
If tougher bootloaders are really the case, why wait for a tougher bootloader? Save yours and jump onto a custom rom!
(Note, I am not responsible for any possible damage my suggestions may cause)

No it wouldn't be a "tougher" bootloader. The Xoom is a Google Experience Device. It will have an unlockable bootloader. The problem would come in for people who use SBF files and RSD Lite to flash back to stock. It has nothing to do with lockable/unlockable. The Xoom will have an unlockable bootloader for its entire lifecycle.
I have no doubt the reason for the delay is two fold: 1. VZW's henious testing procedures and 2. The Xoom isn't a priority device for them anymore.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Xoom being a GED for a moment, you are correct about the bootloader. Sometimes you take the Xoom being a GED w/. an unlockable/lockable bootloader for granted, thanks for that reminder!
I wish I could sign up for the soak test. I'm still running stock, unrooted honeycomb and would love the be a guinea pig.
I'm sorry about that. I shoulda given the pertinent info to someone like you, given Moto your MEID so that you could test it. The satisfaction of telling them to piss off was fleeting at best. Since I already kicked their butts through the proper channels, I should have at least let someone in this community get in. I just assumed they invited everyone who hadn't sued them yet. ;-)
If they ever decide to violate the restraining order (just kidding) and invite me again, I'll try to get someone in instead of me.

I'm pretty excited. I'm a stock user, so I've been waiting a long time. And my tablet's no longer got a data plan either, so being stuck with Verizon while the Wi-Fi owners got ICS was pretty painful.

I can't say, exactly. Just know your rights as a consumer overall and in your state. There are proper channels and forms you can fill out and you usually get a response and some sort of resolution if you are somewhat creative or atleast patient. After the end of a conversation with Motorola Mobility's counsel, I can sheepishly admit that we've come to terms. I didn't get the meeting in Barcelona that I suggested (an inside joke for anyone who's seen an internal memo) but at least I'm back at zero which sadly counts as a victory (to me) against these guys.
I only had to have a couple of conversations with VZW's customer service to get them to be reasonable about the LTE business. I didn't bother with Google because I reached a fair solution with the other two offending parties. I'm not exactly sure what they could have for me anyway other than buy my Xoom back at a prorated price and get me out of my contract.
My penalty for jumping on new sexy hardware that was kind of a lopsided deal was having to research the process for filing small claims cases, consumer protection agencies, filing out forms and patiently explaining the actual issue and outlining what remedies you're hoping for to stranger after stranger. It helps if you're not trying to get a bunch of free stuff. Will I buy anything from VZW or Motorola again? Maybe, because they eventually came through for me but I hate paperwork so it's going to have be perfect out of the box or cheap.

Sprint and Samsung both have been very quiet since their last "ASAP" tweets and posts. They are either keeping their heads down to avoid getting them chewed off by all of the angry people or they are hoping that if they don't mention the E*ic or F*oyo words that people will just forget.
I wish I knew someone at The Onion because a great story would be, "Egyptian riots linked to angry Epic 4G owners demanding Froyo."
Another great idea would be an "Epic Flash Mob" on February 7th to go along with their big announcement.

Because we have better things to do than send tweets, facebook posts and emails to Sprint and Samsung over an update that we will get when they are ready to give it to us. Our phones are working just fine without 2.2. And once we do get 2.2...most of you will just start *****ing about 2.3.
Maybe you should all just get rid of your Epics...move over to an EVO and continue on with your lives. The devs here have done a wonderful job with the DK28 build and I couldnt be happier.

This is a fantastic phone. I used to have a Nexus One with T-Mobile. I had FroYo before my fellow nerd friends had even heard of it. I rubbed it in a lot until they started getting the updates on their Droids and EVOs and such.
This phone blows that thing out of the water, even without 2.2
Besides, there IS a way to update this phone to 2.2... what is stopping you if you want it so bad?

Agreed this phone blows any other phone out of the water without Froyo but even if we update this phone with the custom ROMS you still see that most developers would love to have the latest firmware and not just DK28.

It's been getting quieter and quieter as of lately. I hope they are getting closer to something big or working hard on something, because this is a great phone. Its even encouraged me to start to do a little dev'ing of my own But in the meanwhile I'll just continue to wait patiently

unlocking the bootloader would be the bomb! ... but that's easy to say
I really wish something like this would happen. It such a shame to have the flagship android device on AT&T have such a hard time with devs because of the bootloader.
Hard to see any development until they release source with bootloader unlock. Hopefully gingerbread isn't far off given the Droid x had it released.

Wasn't is stated somewhere that gingerbread would come Q2 or Q3? I can't remember
Hopefully with the next update as well as the current drop in prices through Amazon, etc, we'll see more interest. The locked bootloader is probably a big turn off for most developers though.
So it's April 13th.. Where is that HSUPA firmware upgrade AT&T told us we would get?
Jesus... I didn't know that April 13th was the end of April... These months have sure gotten shorter.
I'm just spit-balling here, but when a company states they'll be releasing an OTA in April, that might mean they'll release it at some point in the month. Not just within the first two weeks.
You might be justified in using that statement the first week of March, but... Nevermind.
Actually, the Atrix's irc channel is very active and devs are working on the bootloader (kholk even stated that he has a method to unlock/bypass it, but he's away until the 2nd of May, so he'll probably test/finish/whatever it when he returns).
I think that devs tend not to post their smaller ideas on the forums now, but rather discuss them on irc as the forums got quite messy with lots of off topic crap...
That would be outstanding...

I think the 2700 dollar bounty is motivation lol. The devs are definitely hard at work on the bootloader. Seriously, you guys can be upset with HTC but, they could have gave some generic reason as to why they are locking their phones and eventually things would have died down. They wouldn't have really suffered from it.
Instead, they went in the other direction. I give them credit for that. All this does is keep me as a customer.

I am so disgusted with SamSprint it is disgusting. The worst part yet is that I feel that I have no options. I like Samsung technology (specifically the large AMOLED screen in combination with the physical QWERTY), but with attitude that Samsung and Sprint have in releasing software updates (the attitude of I got your money already), it is REALLY discouraging. I wish we had other options because I would GTFO of this phone QUICK and never buy another Samsung phone again.
ALSO, all of this in combination with Samsung and Sprint's complete lack of communication on the matter. No status updates, confirmations, NOTHING. SOOOOOOOOOO tired of this business model, and nothing on the horizon that looks better.
The Galaxy S is an awesome phone no matter which variant you have. Yes we don't get the up dates as quick as we should, I put it on the carriers(refer to the I9000 section on samfirmware and you'll see what I mean). If they'd let some members of xda do their updates they'd be a lot stablier and out faster.

It is pretty clear from all of the posts that I have read, that getting GB from his phone is nothing short of a lost cause.
That said, we shouldn't need to do this kind of reverse engineering crap to get the software off his phone to get it to the people that want it.

Care to take your childish, complaining somewhere else? Try any android blog, or the sprint forums. This thread, and all of these supportive attitudes are asinine.

I am sorry that you think it is ok for companies (Sprint/Samsung) to treat THEIR CUSTOMERS this way. You know, the same customers who pay the salaries of the employees of their respective companies???
I am also sorry that you don't find this ridiculous delay, and this non-communication as acceptable, and as something that doesn't warrant complaining.
Instead, you chose to complain about my post. Good use of your time. It is YOUR passive attitude which is what allows these exact delays to occur. GOOD JOB!
BACK ON TOPIC:
I guess it wasn't in the playbook this week?
Dude, for real? Grow up. We've gone this long without official GB, it's not like the phone is unusable without it.

And that makes it ok!!!!
I simply don't understand how so many people think it is OK for a consumer to be treated this way by the company they are supporting. This is NOT OK. Instead of being passive about the entire situation, why not be more vocal???
Funny thing is, if you pacifists would actually read what I post, you would see that I am not even necessarily asking for GB tomorrow. I would be thrilled just to get some communication from these companies. Stop keeping the PAYING CUSTOMERS in the dark. Let us know what is going on.
If more people spoke up, maybe these companies would change their tune a little, but nooooooooooo, people are ok with not getting updates in a timely fashion, with no communication from the companies that will ultimately provide said update.
Unless GB is gonna make my phone physically do my job for me I don't see it as that big of a deal. The devs have made this phone kick ass but in essence its just a phone that's fun to mod. I just don't get all the anger. Besides that I'm running eh17 with one of the new kernels from source and it is running great. (Although it still doesn't do my job for me)

Your complaing in a development fourm isn't going to do anything for you if your upset that sprint/samsung does not give you timely updates to your phone. Try complaining in the sprint/samsung fourms, it might help your cause a litttle more.

I have personally written to both companies (actual paper and stamp). I am just one person. If more and more people did it (even just demanded communication), things would change.

Spoke up to WHO? XDA Developers forum?
And no one is keeping anyone in the dark. We weren't guaranteed ANYTHING. We have been getting leaks (read: unofficial builds), and that's it. Nothing has been announced. We'll get it when we get it. Were we even TOLD we were getting Gingerbread by both Sprint and Samsung? I don't think so. We are all speculating release dates, 2.3.x builds, playbook leaks, etc.
So after years of enjoying xda anonymously I had to ask: why the sudden secrecy about the ICS leak for the Atrix 4G?
I've been enjoying xda for my Bionic and over 'there' (lol) we don't care. If there is a leak we all go crazy and post howto's and upload it to a dozen fileshare sites, share info and just go buck ass wild.
Over the past couple of days I noticed there was a thread about a leak, then it got deleted, and ever since then it's "That ROM" and everyone is anal about providing info about it. What's the big deal? Really. Someone explain it.
I would love to get an ICS leak for my wife's Atrix 4G. She's having so much trouble with cellular data and Wifi it would be like a new phone to her.
I just went back to stock on my Bionic to wait for a soak test OTA for ICS I was invited for. If it works as well as the leak I've been running for months I'll be happy as a slinky on an escalator (sorry, had to use that one. It's from a US commercial and cracks me up).
So, what's the big deal with the secrecy?
The problem with XDA is perpetual misinformation.
Thread got deleted. People jumped to conclusions, thought it must be Motorola or some other company. Now everyone thinks if they keep it all "hush hush" that they won't realise people are bug testing and developing on the leak lol
The other day people got pissy and suspicious when someone who's been here for years (but only posted recently, sorta like how i started here) because he asked for AT&T APK's and logs (plaintext, anyone could comb through for personal info and remove it before sending).

I SAW THAT .. that was hilarious. I was really close to comment about that in my first post; something like "Don't worry, I promise I'm no undercover spook from Apple" (since they own the Atrix's fingerprint reader company now). Bringing Apple in here would have really stirred up some ****
I guess I'll wait until things die down and get organized. My wife doesn't like me messing with her phone so I need to get it right the first time lol
Initially there was a mis-understanding due to lack of information, people assumed and inferred too much from epinter's thread removal. Whether or not the paranoia is justified, fact remains that epinter wanted his thread removed and that some company wanted the leak hushed in XDA although they did not do it via the right channels.
Now I think it became the defacto standard to call the leak 'that rom', not due to paranoia but because people are familiar with that name. Its quite cool too, adds a story to our beloved phone.
We are all masons. That's why.

You guys have reading comprehension issues. Kennethpenn didn't say who it was, except that it *wasn't* Motorola.
Epinter took his thread down on his own, unrelated to any communications about the ROM.

Yes. Only you know what is really going on. Only you are smart. But you won't be sued. You are anonymous but the board is not and I don't think they have enough money to go against software companies.
Be reasonable.

Interesting. Now, back to what I was actually talking about, re: people making baseless assumptions and running with them until they become convinced it's "the truth" (and presenting it as unsubstantiated fact). Any opinions on that, sir?

Atrix ICS/JB over due!!
Atrix deserves an ICS update!! Love this Phone.
Personally I feel that the community should set an example by creating a stable ICS/JB build for the phone.

Forgive my sense of humour...
If your wife insisting on ICS then the easiest solution is divorcing her, otherwise your marriage is safe in spite of her Atrix ownership.
A working ICS ROM is not going to happen from any ROM leaks unless Motorola finishs cooking the ROM. The support of ICS ROM by XDA members would be an issue, at least for me.

Lol. My wife doesn't care what she runs but she has horrible issues with cellular data stability. I had too with my Bionic before I installed an ICS leak. That's why I'm banking on this leak.
I don't know the state of this leak, but if it is anything like the Bionic leaks it's good enough.
