As you can see by the title I am getting more and more disgruntled by the day.
I assume the playbook made no mention of GB this f'ing week?
.....I'm not sure how I am supposed to respond to this. There is no question. Or any way to know whether or not Sprint will drop GB. Hmmm

If it is going to drop isn't it mentioned in the PB?
Therefore the question is - Was it in the PB tonight?

Anyway - I qualified my title in the first line of my post. I am disgruntled and I am tired of the same old **** from Sprint/Samsung. No communication, late patches... Tired and disgruntled beyond belief. Hence the title.

Thanks for being real. I feel the same way bro. I feel your pain. But I am not surprised. Maybe some of the guys can ask Lonny Claus for his version of gingerbread. I am on the naughty list so I won't be getting gingerbread but others who are on the nice list can or maybe we can wait for the Lonny Bunny but our best chance is to ask the Great Lonny next Halloween for gingerbread by that time we will have an official gingerbread while everybody else will be on Jellybean.

Thanks Steve. I didn't know that was the case. I thought several users here had access to it.
I am so disgusted with SamSprint it is disgusting. The worst part yet is that I feel that I have no options. I like Samsung technology (specifically the large AMOLED screen in combination with the physical QWERTY), but with attitude that Samsung and Sprint have in releasing software updates (the attitude of I got your money already), it is REALLY discouraging. I wish we had other options because I would GTFO of this phone QUICK and never buy another Samsung phone again.
ALSO, all of this in combination with Samsung and Sprint's complete lack of communication on the matter. No status updates, confirmations, NOTHING. SOOOOOOOOOO tired of this business model, and nothing on the horizon that looks better.
The Galaxy S is an awesome phone no matter which variant you have. Yes we don't get the up dates as quick as we should, I put it on the carriers(refer to the I9000 section on samfirmware and you'll see what I mean). If they'd let some members of xda do their updates they'd be a lot stablier and out faster.

It is pretty clear from all of the posts that I have read, that getting GB from his phone is nothing short of a lost cause.
That said, we shouldn't need to do this kind of reverse engineering crap to get the software off his phone to get it to the people that want it.

I am sorry that you think it is ok for companies (Sprint/Samsung) to treat THEIR CUSTOMERS this way. You know, the same customers who pay the salaries of the employees of their respective companies???
I am also sorry that you don't find this ridiculous delay, and this non-communication as acceptable, and as something that doesn't warrant complaining.
Instead, you chose to complain about my post. Good use of your time. It is YOUR passive attitude which is what allows these exact delays to occur. GOOD JOB!
BACK ON TOPIC:
I guess it wasn't in the playbook this week?
Dude, for real? Grow up. We've gone this long without official GB, it's not like the phone is unusable without it.

And that makes it ok!!!!
I simply don't understand how so many people think it is OK for a consumer to be treated this way by the company they are supporting. This is NOT OK. Instead of being passive about the entire situation, why not be more vocal???
Funny thing is, if you pacifists would actually read what I post, you would see that I am not even necessarily asking for GB tomorrow. I would be thrilled just to get some communication from these companies. Stop keeping the PAYING CUSTOMERS in the dark. Let us know what is going on.
If more people spoke up, maybe these companies would change their tune a little, but nooooooooooo, people are ok with not getting updates in a timely fashion, with no communication from the companies that will ultimately provide said update.
Unless GB is gonna make my phone physically do my job for me I don't see it as that big of a deal. The devs have made this phone kick ass but in essence its just a phone that's fun to mod. I just don't get all the anger. Besides that I'm running eh17 with one of the new kernels from source and it is running great. (Although it still doesn't do my job for me)

Spoke up to WHO? XDA Developers forum?
And no one is keeping anyone in the dark. We weren't guaranteed ANYTHING. We have been getting leaks (read: unofficial builds), and that's it. Nothing has been announced. We'll get it when we get it. Were we even TOLD we were getting Gingerbread by both Sprint and Samsung? I don't think so. We are all speculating release dates, 2.3.x builds, playbook leaks, etc.

*Edit*
I didnt see the original thread regarding the leak that was closed. I seen the tweet from noob the other night. The leak according to noob is very unstable and only given to a select few. Im glad it went to his hands first, to protect the source and in hope of putting out something stable. If not at least the source is protected and we me get a RC out of him later. Noobnl is great asset for the epic community and I think the bashing should stop and let them see what they can do. Hopefully they can put out a good base for other devs to work off of.
To noobnl
After reading through the op that's was closed you didn't really say much. Can you enlighten us as to this leak can be used for a rom soon or is it too unstable and ur waiting on another build?
lol the pic really doesnt prove anything.. these devs have skills and they can easily just put froyo in there..
he has a beta
ya dude.. he's the coolest kid in cool town right now.
noob is working on CM6 wich is a asop built from source based on froyo. that image is real as he got cm6 to boot but it is not close to being stable. last i herd the ffc didnt work, no data or wifi. give it some time and the guys over at cynogan will have froyo for us

The only reason he isnt leaking it to us is because every file in it is tagged with the name of the employee who gave it to him. so if he then leaks it, he is jeopardizing the job of that employee

Wait, so just out of curiosity, was it the employee who leaked it to him? or did sprint authorize it? Because, if they were smart, they would have authorized it but made it seem like it was a rogue employee/mischievous early adopter.

Yes, because its in Sprints best interest to leak a buggy beta version of a rom out to the general public and then have to deal with the inevitable "I dont know what happened, my phone wont turn on. Can you replace it?" people.
I'm a bit of a conspiricy theorst, so ill enter tain every one with a tale.
I think this may be an intentional leak on behalf of sprint. Maybe they were having some problems and needed a little help from the community. HTC has been doing it for years.Does anyone else think a total newbie starts an account here and within 4 posts is showing pics of his epic with froyo claiming to have gotten it from a sprint employee is or isn't really weird? Our own inside sprint guy whosdaman had never even seen this.
When said lurker is asked he says he ismore than willing to share, jut needs help to give it to us because to update killed his root and cwm. Underrstandable.
Also a perfect ruse....
Here is what sprint didn't know, nay, couldn't know.
I think 1 of 2 things could have happened here.
A. They didn't count on noobnl being a jerk who just wants profit from donations(or maybe not profit at all. Just for ego) via his rom which would be the first 2.2 or to incorperate elements of this. Now don't get me wrong. Noobnl is the man fo epic, but really, aren't we all a little bit selfish? I would totally love to be the guy the leak trusted. This could be true because the op in the first leak thread never ever mentioned any radio crashing issues or anything else. He iks using it as a daily with little or no problems.
Also he was tottally willing to just give it up because whosdaman promised no personal info would be in a dump. Even if there was, it could be removed be
the first source (moob and who's). There is no way to tie 1 employees name or id number t every single line of code is there? I don't know. I don't claim to be an expert. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty ignorant.
Noobnl culd have gotten it and said anything he wants. Personally, I don't think I've even seen noobnl say anything about privacy, just that its crappy. Just minions and whatnot have been putting that out there.
Or B. It was a crappy dump (double entendre) and rfeally is buggy and stupid because there was an error or something or who knows and really it is stable, because it really bugs me that the original leaker is talking about NO radio crashing or buggieness.
Or I'm crazy and short on sleep on this daylight savings clock set back one hour night. That's proly it.
I hope you were entertained.

no its not, then we would have hundreds of threads in teh dev forum asking how to use odin and why things arent working etc etc. how the leak got out is much more important then everyone have a crappy version of it 2 weeks in advance.
Well, that little bit of action would at least be more exiting that this board hs been lately. A lot of evo owners coming over to brag how much development they have bec, ause open source means opensource over there and a dev would never hold out a leak from the community. Idk I'm just talking you know. I guess starting a little convo.
A lot of people are acting like noobnl is protecting some super secret inside source.

Here's an idea, how about we make one thread with ALL rumors of OFFICIAL OTA TO EVERYONE NOT JUST TESTERS, etc.... so that we only have one place to get our hopes up. Deal is you have to say rumor, unless its clearly stating upgrade to 2.2/2.3, from a first party source, Sammy, sprint, or google. And if its a sprint employee rumor please clarify that that I the case, as I've seen they are either totally right, or totally misinformed for sales purposes. No ill will, just clarify your source, and exactly what the supporting evidence is.
Cheers!

lol so many of their articles cite xda-developers as the source.
Yah I thought you were 'encouraged' to donate when you made profit off open source work... which is what this really is... aside from flame wars every complaint about roms etc. Is development... maybe they do donate, but I would hope google as well as these sites donate to the cooks too... amazing what they do in a day compared to salaried workers.
Personally I feel that the 2.3 hopes are crap as of right now. Why do you ask? Well seeing that the Epic does not have an official 2.2 or a stable(bugs fixed) developed version of 2.2, 2.3 will not be working for a good amount of time. Don't get me wrong the developed roms are good so far, but there is room for improvement. Words to live by "live in the present rather then concentrating on the future"
seeing as there arent any good 2.3 rumor threads out, im hijacking this one. Apparently 2.3 is due on june 20th, according to most people in the web. However, today we were told that we might get an update today? what are your thoughts on this? wdm had a pretty good time frame for the 6/20 release date theory so for now that seems to be the most viable option.
thoughts?

Daikatana was actually released, you should use DNF as a reference instead.
EDIT how I wish Google did all the software work, the manufacturer just did hardware (and sometimes drivers), and the carrier just provided the service. It'd be like a real computer, and it would work.
Yeah, until we see an official ROM release from Samsung, their statement is nothing more than damage control for bad publicity. Their Twitter "support" was being bombarded with messages last night; it drew much attention from other tech sites. Samsung's next step is to come up with with an official (vague) excuse for the delay and then hope it tides the community over...
It's been half a year, promises are pretty shallow at this point.

Folks keep in mind this was pretty much a direct response to the accusations that they're charging for upgrades. I'm not saying I believe the response or that they haven't been awful at providing an update or adequate communication.
What I'm saying is you clearly have to make accusations to get a response (true or not).

The problem is when Samsung and Sprint say ASAP it really just means "Another Sorry A$$ Promise."
I'm sorry everyone. I am the reason why we don't have Froyo yet. Let me explain. Every other smart phone I have ever had in the past 5 years on Sprint was an HTC phone. I went through 3 or 4 Moguls, 2 Touch Pros, and 3 Touch Pro 2s. I thought that since I had so any issues with HTC hardware I would try a different manufacturer so I got the Epic. Well.... It looks like the black cloud has followed me! Anyone want to pony up and buy me an iPhone? LOL I'd love to take this black cloud over there!
Well it is nice to hear Samsung open up and say something, but I sure am getting tired of getting the "details will come soon" BS from both Samsung and Sprint. We've been hearing "details will come soon" for more than 4 months. Perhaps we have different definitions of the word "soon."

I think with another other carrier releasing the 2.2 update for a SGS phone, it will put pressure on other carriers to follow. No longer can they say it's someone else's fault.
But honestly, I bet we'll see noobnl release an operational version of Gingerbread before we see Sprint push 2.2 out.
So Samsung's bragging again that it's going to introduce a "evolution" and in the picture its the Galaxy S and then a white blog signifying it's "masterpiece" that it hopes to unveil on Feb. 13. Speculation seems to point at it's possibly them actually showing off the Vibrant 4G or another device.
The only "evolution" that Samsung could introduce, is the one where they support their devices instead of tossing new ones out there.
Take a read,

Wow, so Samsung is just like every other cell phone manufacturer?????? THOSE BASTARDS!!!!! HOW DARE THEY KEEP UP WITH THEIR COMPETITION IN A FAST-GROWING INDUSTRY!!
I think they just made a typo. It's supposed to be "revolution" - because that's what the users are going to do on that date

no but seriously....im really into modding phones, and any device-specific forum ive ever been on has been full of people complaining about the same things. I just dont know why everyone doesnt just accept the system for what it is. And ALSO that the system is definitely out of Samsungs hands....but if they want to survive as a company, they have to keep up with that system.
I understand they can't just release a phone and wait 2 years to release another one. But ( I guess I cut the ending short) they need to work on supporting what they have out now along side what they push out in the future. It's sad that the cell phone business has taken on Apples take of things. Make a new device, sells millions. A year later push out the same phone but with "enhancements" and newer things. Wait another year and do the same thing, and then drop support for the original after the 2nd one comes out..

Unfortunately as soon as Samsung announced a phone with 4.3" SuperAMOLED+ screen and a Tegra2-beating Orion SOC, everyone who were complaining about the Android updates will secretly be counting their savings so that they can get the latest and the greatest hardware. Such is the way of phone upgraditis.

Lack of updates, lack of device support, lack of customer loyalty, unkept promises, hardware/software issues, blahblahblahhhhHHHhHHhHHHhhhHH
Nowadays, smartphones are outdated/obsolete within 6months of their release. Yes, indeed, its a monster that the manufacturers have created for themselves, and theres no way they can keep up with their competition while also keeping every single one of you crying babies happy. Yes, its an ugly industry, and it isnt fair. BUT ITS THE WAY IT IS.
*****, moan, *****, moan, *****, moan alllllll you want. File your class action lawsuits, spam their customer service lines, create facebook pages and twitter accounts, start petitions. do you think its going to change ANYTHING?? do you think its just THAT easy? you guys just sound so damn pathetic with all of your bellyaching.
Youre on a forum that is meant for modding your device, and making it better than the way it came out of the box, yet you are complaining that they wont do it for you. Then why are you guys even here??? No device is perfect. And when the day comes that they do release a perfect device, they will release an even more perfect device shortly after....thus making the prior one not perfect, and people *****ing for updates on their old ones to make it as good as the new one. Round-and-round we go.
Consumers will NEVER be happy, and you guys are proving that. Do some research before buying a damn phone next time. Dont buy it right when its released just because its the hottest thing, and having the phone that is on all the commercials gives you a sense of purpose. Maybe next time wait a couple months, come onto XDA, and see if the children are whining about the damn GPS. That would be a tell-tale warning, wouldnt you say? Then Samsung wont have your money, youll still have your upgrade to play with, and you wont be stuck with a device that didnt get sharted from god's ass. Problem solved.
To me what's just as bad as the people that constantly complain are the people that get so defensive about it as if they have the majority of stock in Samsung. To break it down simply- Samsung doesn't care about you. They don't care about you the whiner, or you the blind follower.
Manufacturers aren't expected to cater to every whim of the consumer but I don't think anyone could come up with a valid argument in support of Samsung's continually delayed release of software both now and with other devices in the past.
In the end it's a great piece of hardware that we're lucky to have such excellent support for here on XDA and other places on the internet but it's just not supported by Samsung. They could learn a lesson or two from HTC. Sadly, if you're buying a Samsung or Motorola, this is the risk you're taking.

good things come to those who wait.. just chill
Just hoping he didn't get banned from posting since the thread got closed by a Senior moderator. Thats all, I'm not impatient, but really excited to hear what he has to say.
All threads in all forums (not just Epic's) by John were locked by 'upper management' so to speak with XDA, so I'm guessing they didn't like the initial approach of things for whatever reason. I PM'ed him earlier today myself and asked about it for curiosity's sake and he said 'we' were in talks with XDA and he hoped to be able to post some details again soon in a new thread. Without being privy to the particulars of all that, my guess is that they'd prefer him be isolated to some higher level 'general' XDA forum and all interaction/feedback occur in one central thread than have a separate thread with every device of theirs. But that's purely a guess on my part.
Lol don't hold your breath

I dont want to believe this, but it makes me wonder.
His last activity was 6:49 today, so I doubt he is gonna make any post regarding what he promised.
He's got 4 hours until its no longer Monday. He is in Texas, so its around 8PM there now. I sure hope "politics" doesn't get in the way of him making his announcement or whatever.
Did anyone really think that this was going to turn into something great? I mean really? Samsungs track record for putting customers first has been proven time and time again, long before the galaxy line and long before cell phones. Not only that, look at XDA from the eyes and view of a large corporation such as Samsung... not just from the view of a dev, themer, consumer. If you've ever worked for a larger corporation/company who's main priority is profit and remaiming current and ahead of the competition you probably understand. One main priority is keeping products and control over those products within your reach, not within the reach of the consumer.

No one expects anything good from Samsung. We can at least hold on to a little bit of hope that they may change though. From MWC:

Hope I get. Acting like Samsung John was the next coming of Christ is another thing (again, not just on the Epic forums). I was hopeful as well that Samsung would get it, but the Epic is soon to be old news, to me at least.
And yes, I'm sure samsung gets it. NOW they get it. I take that to mean they won't make the same mistakes on the SG2 line that they made on our phones.

Guys, please keep it civil. I know it's frustrating but if you need to rant just chill for a bit.
All this bickering isn't helping anybody.

Its another disappointment from Samsung and John we got used to that story. It seems like there is a big problem epic and froyo getting along so they want some help from xda dev cuz sprint can't get their things together and who knows the deal is already made.

Sounds like a sucker move to me. They say it wont happen again to suck you into buying a a new phone with the same support, only to drop support for the last line of devices. Not buying it Mr Samsung.
As soon as another competitor has a device that has even within reasonable specs at the same time of launch, they are gonna notice why their failure has come to a reality with their next device release.
Lol.
Yano, the cynic in me, as I'm sure is true with some other people, (and I hope its not lost on those people either) believes his lack of a post today is intentional. Remember, he is a social media "analyst". Looking for what type of reactions he would get for breaking such a small "promise" sounds like a pretty good barometer to gauge just how accurate the "mass feelings of resentment" for samsung for not getting us an update sooner is.
Do believe he's the real deal? Yes, and I'm confident he will post with his details later. But I'm pretty sure he's holding off just to watch us, and see how much we hold people to verbal commitments.
We're all lab rats.
But that's just the cynic in me talkin
