Sprint and Samsung both have been very quiet since their last "ASAP" tweets and posts. They are either keeping their heads down to avoid getting them chewed off by all of the angry people or they are hoping that if they don't mention the E*ic or F*oyo words that people will just forget.
I wish I knew someone at The Onion because a great story would be, "Egyptian riots linked to angry Epic 4G owners demanding Froyo."
Another great idea would be an "Epic Flash Mob" on February 7th to go along with their big announcement.
Lol on egypt

Because we have better things to do than send tweets, facebook posts and emails to Sprint and Samsung over an update that we will get when they are ready to give it to us. Our phones are working just fine without 2.2. And once we do get 2.2...most of you will just start *****ing about 2.3.
Maybe you should all just get rid of your Epics...move over to an EVO and continue on with your lives. The devs here have done a wonderful job with the DK28 build and I couldnt be happier.

This is a fantastic phone. I used to have a Nexus One with T-Mobile. I had FroYo before my fellow nerd friends had even heard of it. I rubbed it in a lot until they started getting the updates on their Droids and EVOs and such.
This phone blows that thing out of the water, even without 2.2
Besides, there IS a way to update this phone to 2.2... what is stopping you if you want it so bad?

Agreed this phone blows any other phone out of the water without Froyo but even if we update this phone with the custom ROMS you still see that most developers would love to have the latest firmware and not just DK28.

from the fascinate page on samsungs site:
" Powered by the latest Android platform (and upgradeable to 2.2), this phone fully integrates with Google Mobile Services. You're now at one with your Gmail account, Google Maps, YouTube videos and more."
Plus Verizon publicly stated we will be able to use google search over bing when it is upgraded to Froyo
i dont know when, but it will come
No one knows.
I do think that Samsung's credability in the android world is at stake. Right now they are NOT LOOKING GOOD and boring the hell out of me. WTF is the problem?
Wow guys, have some patients, the phone has been out for 14 days. I realize Froyo has been out for longer than that but jeez, relax. To say "are we ever gonna get it" is a little ridiculous. Just sit back and enjoy your new toy, its already great. Or maybe get off your comp and go find a lady to keep you busy for a change
Um, anyone following the news should not be doubting this. Samsung announced that Froyo will be out for the Galaxy S by the end of October. The US variants should follow shortly afterward.

This. It took me around 3 months to get Froyo for my Droid X, so 14 days isn't really that much time. All signs point to it being out within the next few months. To be honest, I'm enjoying my Fascinate the way it is now, I just got everything set up the way I want. That's not to say that 2.2 wouldn't be a welcome addition, I just know how much of a pain it's been getting it functioning properly on my last 3 devices.
I am really not in a huge hurry to get it. My phone is working great, just as my Droid 1 was working before 2.2 fried it and there began my move to the fascinate. They gave me junk replacement phones for my 6 month old, like new Droid, then they gave me a Droid 2 and extended my contract without my knowing, so I kicked and screamed and got the droid 2 exchanged for the Fascinate. So it is a little worrysome to me to think about frying another phone with a 2.2 update.
We will have Froyo by the end of October. This came from MULTIPLE Verizon Reps.

I'm not holding my breath for any release date. It will be out when it's out. The only big things I'm interested in are increased speed, USB tether, and enterprise security features, and since my phone is already quite fast, I have wifi tethering, and use Touchdown for proper Exchange connectivity, I have no problem waiting. I will be disappointed if it doesn't come out this year though.

I hope it is coming soon. I can't wait for ROMs and kernels. And can you imagine how fast this will be with Froyo? It's already much faster on 2.1 than any phone I've used on 2.2, overclocked or not.
Here's an idea, how about we make one thread with ALL rumors of OFFICIAL OTA TO EVERYONE NOT JUST TESTERS, etc.... so that we only have one place to get our hopes up. Deal is you have to say rumor, unless its clearly stating upgrade to 2.2/2.3, from a first party source, Sammy, sprint, or google. And if its a sprint employee rumor please clarify that that I the case, as I've seen they are either totally right, or totally misinformed for sales purposes. No ill will, just clarify your source, and exactly what the supporting evidence is.
Cheers!

Yah I thought you were 'encouraged' to donate when you made profit off open source work... which is what this really is... aside from flame wars every complaint about roms etc. Is development... maybe they do donate, but I would hope google as well as these sites donate to the cooks too... amazing what they do in a day compared to salaried workers.
Personally I feel that the 2.3 hopes are crap as of right now. Why do you ask? Well seeing that the Epic does not have an official 2.2 or a stable(bugs fixed) developed version of 2.2, 2.3 will not be working for a good amount of time. Don't get me wrong the developed roms are good so far, but there is room for improvement. Words to live by "live in the present rather then concentrating on the future"
seeing as there arent any good 2.3 rumor threads out, im hijacking this one. Apparently 2.3 is due on june 20th, according to most people in the web. However, today we were told that we might get an update today? what are your thoughts on this? wdm had a pretty good time frame for the 6/20 release date theory so for now that seems to be the most viable option.
thoughts?

We appreciate efforts to answer our complaints with Samsung, but adding teasers about a "Huge Announcement " after 6 months of corporate neglect....... does not instill a "Warm and Fuzzy"..........I am pretty sure you understand our unhappiness with the Treatment we have Received from Samsung... et al......

If Kry says he's legit, he's legit. I wanna throw my guess to the big announcement-I think that they will not only release source but will have Vanilla android builds for those not wanting to wait for Touchwiz customizations (w/bloat obviously).
Gingerbread?
Now THAT would be an announcement.

I am a bit skeptical about this announcement since user complaints seem to have fallen on deaf ears for a number of months. However, I hope this will really be something substantial that will sway myself and many other users towards purchasing samsung phones again instead of holding up #neveragain signs. If samsung would be willing to fix my GPS on my vibrant that would be amazing.

An announcement as to if and when T-Mobile gets a galaxy 2 is what I would like to know. The vibrant 4g is the phone the vibrant should have been out of the gate 6 months ago but I think that was probably tmobiles decision. We probably could have had the international version if tmobile had asked for it. My concern is that if they are getting the 4g version vibrant at the end of this month then its going to be a fairly long time if ever that we get the full featured galaxy 2.

Sent from the Evo
Since their unlocking the bootloader does this mean NAND and everything is unlocked liked the OG Evo?
shouldn't this be in the 3D forum? besides, they knew from the beginning what they were going to do. They probably just wanted to see how many people actually cared, and they got more publicity from you clowns who are now singing their praises

No.
The Sensation has the same encryption and that was released, with the encryption, 8 days ago.

Ahh a hole in the conspiracy theory. Is Lloyd hiding in the grassy knoll?
Seriously, you guys can be upset with HTC but, they could have gave some generic reason as to why they are locking their phones and eventually things would have died down. They wouldn't have really suffered from it.
Instead, they went in the other direction. I give them credit for that. All this does is keep me as a customer.
Setting a nice precedent here!

Here's the link, for anyone who hasn't seen it:
HTC CEO Confirms EVO 3D Will Have An Unlocked Bootloader One Way Or Another
Personally, I'm glad to hear it straight from him. Yeah, it will likely be an OTA, or an unlock tool, but this news reaffirmed my intentions to buy an E3D...which were shaky still even after the announcement yesterday.

Yes, sir. Absolutely. This means devs will be able to cook roms, kernels and any other goodies we are enjoying on the current Evo......and more.
Evo will get a update second quarter soon confirmed from HTC also they said they will post a list of phones that will not be locked. Some still are.
As you can see by the title I am getting more and more disgruntled by the day.
I assume the playbook made no mention of GB this f'ing week?
.....I'm not sure how I am supposed to respond to this. There is no question. Or any way to know whether or not Sprint will drop GB. Hmmm

If it is going to drop isn't it mentioned in the PB?
Therefore the question is - Was it in the PB tonight?

Speaking of retarded, look who it is. Pot, Kettle, Black.
Anyway - I qualified my title in the first line of my post. I am disgruntled and I am tired of the same old **** from Sprint/Samsung. No communication, late patches... Tired and disgruntled beyond belief. Hence the title.

Thanks for being real. I feel the same way bro. I feel your pain. But I am not surprised. Maybe some of the guys can ask Lonny Claus for his version of gingerbread. I am on the naughty list so I won't be getting gingerbread but others who are on the nice list can or maybe we can wait for the Lonny Bunny but our best chance is to ask the Great Lonny next Halloween for gingerbread by that time we will have an official gingerbread while everybody else will be on Jellybean.

Thanks Steve. I didn't know that was the case. I thought several users here had access to it.
I am so disgusted with SamSprint it is disgusting. The worst part yet is that I feel that I have no options. I like Samsung technology (specifically the large AMOLED screen in combination with the physical QWERTY), but with attitude that Samsung and Sprint have in releasing software updates (the attitude of I got your money already), it is REALLY discouraging. I wish we had other options because I would GTFO of this phone QUICK and never buy another Samsung phone again.
ALSO, all of this in combination with Samsung and Sprint's complete lack of communication on the matter. No status updates, confirmations, NOTHING. SOOOOOOOOOO tired of this business model, and nothing on the horizon that looks better.
The Galaxy S is an awesome phone no matter which variant you have. Yes we don't get the up dates as quick as we should, I put it on the carriers(refer to the I9000 section on samfirmware and you'll see what I mean). If they'd let some members of xda do their updates they'd be a lot stablier and out faster.

It is pretty clear from all of the posts that I have read, that getting GB from his phone is nothing short of a lost cause.
That said, we shouldn't need to do this kind of reverse engineering crap to get the software off his phone to get it to the people that want it.

Care to take your childish, complaining somewhere else? Try any android blog, or the sprint forums. This thread, and all of these supportive attitudes are asinine.

I am sorry that you think it is ok for companies (Sprint/Samsung) to treat THEIR CUSTOMERS this way. You know, the same customers who pay the salaries of the employees of their respective companies???
I am also sorry that you don't find this ridiculous delay, and this non-communication as acceptable, and as something that doesn't warrant complaining.
Instead, you chose to complain about my post. Good use of your time. It is YOUR passive attitude which is what allows these exact delays to occur. GOOD JOB!
BACK ON TOPIC:
I guess it wasn't in the playbook this week?
Dude, for real? Grow up. We've gone this long without official GB, it's not like the phone is unusable without it.

And that makes it ok!!!!
I simply don't understand how so many people think it is OK for a consumer to be treated this way by the company they are supporting. This is NOT OK. Instead of being passive about the entire situation, why not be more vocal???
Funny thing is, if you pacifists would actually read what I post, you would see that I am not even necessarily asking for GB tomorrow. I would be thrilled just to get some communication from these companies. Stop keeping the PAYING CUSTOMERS in the dark. Let us know what is going on.
If more people spoke up, maybe these companies would change their tune a little, but nooooooooooo, people are ok with not getting updates in a timely fashion, with no communication from the companies that will ultimately provide said update.
Unless GB is gonna make my phone physically do my job for me I don't see it as that big of a deal. The devs have made this phone kick ass but in essence its just a phone that's fun to mod. I just don't get all the anger. Besides that I'm running eh17 with one of the new kernels from source and it is running great. (Although it still doesn't do my job for me)

Your complaing in a development fourm isn't going to do anything for you if your upset that sprint/samsung does not give you timely updates to your phone. Try complaining in the sprint/samsung fourms, it might help your cause a litttle more.

I have personally written to both companies (actual paper and stamp). I am just one person. If more and more people did it (even just demanded communication), things would change.

Spoke up to WHO? XDA Developers forum?
And no one is keeping anyone in the dark. We weren't guaranteed ANYTHING. We have been getting leaks (read: unofficial builds), and that's it. Nothing has been announced. We'll get it when we get it. Were we even TOLD we were getting Gingerbread by both Sprint and Samsung? I don't think so. We are all speculating release dates, 2.3.x builds, playbook leaks, etc.
