This is sweet, good job!

Does anyone else think that perhaps this is a precursor to a "Xperia Play 2"? Think about it; the physical hardware probably wouldn't change much (same buttons, slider configuration, similar screen size). The main difference would be the hardware "underneath" (quad core, tegra, etc.) and the software. By dropping ICS off for the original Xperia Play, they can turn around and say the new model runs the superior ICS (and will surely get an update to jellybean)

Im not sure if my xda app is bugged out but on my screen the op's post is blank. Cant see what the topic of discussion is or ops thoughts.

LOL does the Kool-Aid taste good?
No, maybe/ hopefully you are right!! I would love an Xperia Play 2 BUT only after my contract is up....I think I have a year or so left.

this was my latest openion , please go on :
i'm sure that XDA's developers can make ICS better that sony , like what they did on our x10 mini-mini pro ...
sony-mobile allways say that they have expert engineers ...
so , xda's developers are more expert than sony's engineers ???!!!
plus , they only need dommlord , jjkkyu , bin4ry ... ?
i'm sure that sony is liar . just wait 4 or five mounths , maybe sony wants to make new play-xperia ! ( something like xperia play 2 ) ! and that is reason to leave our xperia play without hard working on update .
on 2010 , they stopped working on X10 series , just because of 2011 series !
just look at apple updates , they support their specs for 3 years ,!unfortunately , now i can understand , why apple owners , allways laugh at us !

Ics 4.0.4??? N Play didnt get it??? Bummer. Lets hope our talented dev can port that updte for our Play.

Thumbs up to SONY for its strategy..
first, released ICS BETA version.. i think they already know the feedback : many would report bugs on gaming
second, with bugs gaming report.. this will create an opinion for some users : better not getting the update than couldn't enjoy the gaming experience
third, with that opinion created.. of course some users wouldn't blame them at all
Imagine if SONY do not release ICS BETA n suddenly made a statement no ICS update for Xperia Play in the very last minute, ........ ???

Why dont you start a petition before its to late? Ask for ICS or at least a value pack.

I think that this shows that not only does Sony not care about their Xperia Play users, but they are LAZY as ever. Let's put out a broken ICS beta to scare everyone away from it, so when we announce that the Xperia Play isn't getting ICS we won't have to take the crap from users. Heck, we weren't going to come out with ICS for the play and we just half-assed a beta to shut the users up. I want Sony to go back on their word and say We messed up and we are going to make ICS for the play, but it isn't going to happen any time soon. I'm just glad I am running aokPlay and it runs smoother then butter coated in animal birthing agent (was featured on Mythbusters when they needed an EXTREMELY slippery surface), sliding on freshly zambonied ice. Yah, It works that well for me. I have NEVER gotten a crash that wasn't my fault because I OC'd too high, or I did something stupid like open too many tabs in my browser by FAR. I hope that Sony sees the light and realizes that all they would have to do would be to release a NON beta ICS version to the devs here and we would all be happy. Then they could at least say "you can't upgrade from us, but you can still do it if you want..."

I think this is just a delay, not cancel.
But anyway, i will start my ics project soon, no longer waiting.

we should finally teach sony that PROMISE IS PROMISE .
a broken apple is better than sony-mobile's xperia
MOD EDIT: FOUL LANGUAGE IS NOT TOLERATED.

I suggest that all the developers working on custom ROMs stop working on their ROMs and get together and work on ONE ROM that would aim to be the best ICS experience possible. Maybe if we all work together we can convince Sony that ICS is still worth it. Just because some games aren't written for ICS it doesn't mean they won't be in the future. So yes, let's pool our resources and make a BETTER ICS rom then whatever Sony might have given us!

yeah , sony also promised new PSsuite and psp games !!!
i want to be patient , but i can't

Let's start from the beginning. The Play, from a pure hardware view, can run ICS. Sony, HTC and other companies are releasing hardware with ICS and lower specs than the Play (Tapioca, Desire C). We've seen that the beta runs mighty fine in the performance department, and it's obvious that the job can be finished if Sony cares to do so.
However, this is a matter of the gaming ecosystem. In short: the only companies Sony cares about are the big names like EA, Gameloft, Rockstar, etc. as they make the big majority of the Play game sales.
However, with regard to development, the Play is not important to those big names: they see it as "the redheaded stepchild Android", because they have to make extra effort to make it work with the game pads, instead of easily deploying the code in it like they do in the whole different platforms they code for (not only mobile phones, but smart TV's, console-related app stores, Steam and so on). Sony bribed those big developers with a lot of cash (remember all those free EA games and temporary exclusives?) so that the Play remained visible.
Fast forward to now. Gingerbread is present in a good 60% of Android Play Store-running hardware. ICS has only like.a 4%. Android is the best selling platform, with, let's say 500 million active devices. If my numbers are not wrong, that gives 300M GB devices 20M ICS ones. Developing with ICS in mind implies higher development costs, because you have to study the new features and use them. And of course, big name developers target wide audiences: by default they'll program with Gingerbread in mind, so they couldn't care less about ICS right now.
Someone mentioned Windows 7 incompatibility with old games: there is actually a Compatibility mode which was mainly designed for the purpose of using older games. Now Steam has taken care of that, which suits MS fine.
With the ICS upgrade, Sony probably contacted their "partners" and asked them to update their software (basically switch from the Sony custom gamepad framework to Google's standard one which Sony probably contributed themselves) for it to work properly in ICS, like they do in Sony gaming platforms. But unlike the PlayStations, it's those big name developers who are in control now, particularly in Android. Therefore, they showed Sony the middle finger.
Indie developers, on the other hand, are much more careful with their code, since they don't have the ability to port a game to twenty platforms and offset the possible losses of one platform with the other one. That means they produce code which is much better tailored to the platform they work on, and you can see it because most indie games work properly in both GB and ICS (note that I'm not talking about the quality of the game itself, but of its code).
TL;DR this is a power struggle between Sony and the big name game developers. The latter have won here, at the expense of the users. Support independent developers but make sure they don't make the "big name" status, because they'll get the need to control everything and screw users like this.
P.S if someone is so unhappy about not having ICS that they don't want that piece of crap lying around in their home, I offer to pay $50 plus shipping for it

Sony makes a Fony promise....
RIP Sony

I was looking for an ICS phone with gaming capability and decent specs, the Xperia play looked good and so I bought it as Sony had "promised" an ICS update. I am vvery dissatisfied and disappointed with them and hope they are hit with a lawsuit. If not id at least like some compensation.

Would like to say thanks to Sony Ericsson

Hello people,
I want to give my thanks to Sony Ericsson, because they have done what other manufacturers failed to do.
First of all, they are the only manufacturer so far that has pushed verizon into releasing kernel sources, and they are probably the only manufacturer that doesn't get pushed around by Verizon.
The reason (IMO) that we can't unlock bootloaders for CDMA phones Via SE's site is because Verizon just buy the hardware with the source and shift and change. If Verizon say that they will not allow unlocking of bootloaders, then it will not happen, because after all it is the Verizon Xperia Play and Sony Ericsson have little control over it.
Thanks for promising an ICS upgrade for us, even though our phone can be considered quite low spec compared to other devices. I don't get the X10 users at all, they say that Sony Ericsson is bad because they won't update the X10 to ICS even though HTC won't update there Desire S, Incredible S, DHD, Thunderbolt which have only been released since late last year.
Also, having a member on behalf of SE on this forum and part of the dev community is awesome, I had to blink a few times to read what the article said about the OFFICIAL ICS BETA.
Does any other manufacturer give you a way to unlock your bootloader, push verizon to release sources, and upgrade a single core £150 phone (£200 when I got it) to ICS?
To the whining x10 users who are ranting at SE for not giving them an ICS upgrade -> be thankful they gave you Gingerbread, how old is the x10 now? 18 months?
Google have a policy IIRC that a phone can only updated if it is less than 18 month old (why the first nexus did not get 4.0)
And thanks for bringing us so many Xperia Play optimized games! Almost 2 are released every week!
Keiran
You forget that beforehand, Sony Ericsson left the phones pretty much out of date. Xperia X8 never got dual touch even though it was possible (and it was done). Sony only updated the X10 to Gingerbread because of the outrage caused by the infamous "our Eclair is better than Froyo" tweet, and leaving those users without Froyo at all. Sony is atoning pretty nicely, but its previous record wasn't all that fancy. Keep in mind the iPhone 3GS, which is fairly in the range of a Xperia X8, and its update record.
Besides, the Xperia Play didn't exactly launch at 150 pounds. It launched at thrice that sum, and it was heavily discounted because of poor sales.

Yes but at least they have changed. At least they listen to the community and released gingerbread for the x10.
Dropping prices has got Sony written all over it, look at the PS3, launch was £425 and now you can get a 250GB slim one for £275, around 40% less.
Sony Ericsson have made the best phones for as long as I can remember. I don't know why anyone would buy a non-Sony Ericsson phone.
I came from a Motorola phone (never again will I make that mistake) and I absolutely love this phone. Its my first android phone where I truly feel that SE is doing all they can for their customers. I mean I was totally floored yesterday when I saw that Verzion allowed SE to release the source kernel. I mean HTC and Verizon are all cozy but even then HTC doesnt really allow for kernel sources. Maybe for other US carrers but not verizon. This is needless to say a huge reason why I am thrilled to have my phone. I can do with it as I please and SE is right there doing what they can to keep their customers happy and on the ball. I mean our single core phone is getting ICS, thats awesome. So I would also like to thank Sony Ericcson for their truly amazing work. I know last year they did not have a good track record but they are seriously trying and doing what they can to change their image and I wouild like to show my appreciation and gratitude for all they have done. Thank you Sony Ericcson.

I think I've said it elsewhere, but when I first got into Android I had 2 phones I was eyeying.. the Xperia X10 (great hardware but was limited to 1.6) or an Acer Liquid E (almost as good hardware, running 2.2) - went with the Acer. Since then SE's really stepped up their game, and I'd say this phone is second only to the Nexus line for upgrades. The Acer didn't even last a year.
Now, all I want is an Xperia Play with a non pitiful amount of built in storage and I'd be happy. Dual Core wouldn't hurt either

SE initially releases heavily priced products and hardly supports dated phones in the past,so I hope now things change for the better in SE(Or should I say,Sony) so consumers like us keep our faith in Sony, especially with Xperia Play.Adding to that fact,I've always loved SE's ROMs which are very nice in my opinion.

Why praise Sony Ericsson the play station is a great idea but the aftersales warranty sucks
I have recently sent my play back for repair and it was refused and I have to pay for the return postage for my device which is not fair. Also I found my handset was scratched by them on the side by a knife inwhich I am upset about because it was in mint condition before that as it was zagg protected and the knife mark did even penetrate the zagg sheild I am p???ed
Yeah the phone is brilliant but consumers beware aftersales repair is the worst ever even apple replaces jail broken handsets!!! Old with new swap policy Sony does not.

ICS = Ice Cream Sandwich = Android 4.0
Kernel sources mean that sufficiently development oriented people (like DooMLoRD or kerianftw) can develop custom kernels to flash to the play to expand usability of the phone (overclocking, cwm built into kernels, etc.) (I'm also looking into building a custom kernel, but I'm having issues that I'm asking DooM for help with)
My $.02 on why this phone hasn't sold to well it's that it was marketed as a niche phone, rather that a phone first with ability to play games second... that and what look like lackluster specs (single core compared to dual core, even tho that really didn't make a difference, yet) put people off to this phone

I like the part where you clearly have no idea what you're on about.
Call me crazy, but I can't get that worked up about an OS.
The Xperia Play remains the device I've always dreamed of carrying with me, ever since I first saw the PSP and wished it could fit in a pocket and make calls and texts. If you'd have told me that device would one day stop getting official OS updates, I would hardly have been shocked or put off it. If you'd have told me the manufacturer released its latest beta freely and remained supportive of unofficial development (I know part of the thanks to that is Android), I'd have been impressed.
I have friends with Galaxy Notes and S2s and they see my gamepad, and freaking ZELDA on N64oid, and their eyes light up. It's a really, really cool device. Not that I hate their phones or anything, but I wouldn't swap. Hell I wouldn't swap for a Galaxy S3 or HTC One X or whatever the latest is currently. Now they may be the dream devices for some people here, but for me it would be as exciting as swapping a PS3 for an ironing board. If I didn't think that buttons are an essential for making games fun, I'd buy an iPhone, seriously. Much as I prefer the open nature of Android, iOS has many more apps.
90% of Play owners out there do not have root or an unlocked bootloader. They are not as technical as posters on XDA, and would not have been expecting game buttons to go wrong. It would have been a support nightmare for Sony to have let those people upgrade if there were going to be issues. For the rest of us, we can flash the beta / whatever dev roms we want. What I mainly liked about the ICS beta was the hardware accelerated browsing. But if Gingerbread ends up being the way to go, then I'll just use Opera for that. Nothing else on a generic gamepad-less ICS phone would really hold a candle to playing console games with buttons whereever I want.
I'm much more pissed off at EA for not making our optimised exclusives, FIFA and Dead Space, available in the UK for people who were too late for that deal, even to buy.
Its a phone im getting sick of tinkering with it....i just wanna play my games, text my *****es and occasionly call my parents and tell them im alive...ics pfft.

I find the part where you say that OP has no idea what hes on about to be worthy of a good ol fashioned facepalm.
ICS is pretty much all OP says it is. Graphical and Performance tweaks. Swipe off notifications (pointless as I have a handy little cross on Gingerbread that removes notifications anyway), Swipe task killer (not as amazing as it sounds as I have a better way...close the app properly) and some browser related stuff like hardware accelerated browsing and swipe off tabs (again, just open up tabs and click the little cross in the corner)
Almost everything on ICS is there to save you a whole, get this, few seconds. More often than not you dont end up swiping a particular notification/app/tab off and end up opening it instead.

(but atm, N64oid with ICS is still laggy ...)
Its true that we dont need it. But like my self i bought the phone since i have in mind buying an ICS but didnt wanted to spend $600 or more in it.
I own an ICS tablet and its the first android that doesnt need tweeks or that i find no use of a custom rom to make it work the way i like.

I love the part where you think you do. Do me a favor, how about you buy a different brand of phone so you can realize that Sony is actually just as good, if not better at supporting their devices than HTC, Motorola, Samsung, [insert name here].
Better yet, skip a step and just buy a ****ing iPhone. It will compliment your douchiness nicely.
I dont need it, and I'm getting a Hayabusa when it launches locally.
I have a Xoom with 4.0.4 ICS and I don't see why everyone is making such a big fuss.
However, I would have liked to see Sony push out one more GB update for the play with updated Qualcomm drivers, updated Sony apps and maybe improved Web browser.
Im just saying its really not worth the fuss lol who cares what I want is what I was promised ps suite isnt this supposed to be a sweet ass gaming phone with a tit load of games ? FSM Sony Ericsson Experia Play

Why People Searcing A New Phone ?

Hi Everyone,
I saw a lot of posts in Xperia Play section like " I will buy a new phone. I will switch my Play. " I know, the reason is ICS update. But, If we get ICS, we will never use it smoothly, right ? Ice Cream Sandiwch was came a lot of Xperia. But, which Xperia can use ICS smoothly ? Let's assume that, we got ICS. ICS uses a lot of RAM. (Let anyone accept this, please!) And ICS isn't a gaming friend. But Xperia Play is gaming phone. I mean ICS is not for us anyway. What do you guys think ?
hmm, older phones with similar or worse specs can handle ics well, like nexus s,htc one v (same chipset, 512mb ram)
The problem with ICS is the gaming aspect, not hardware limitations.

People are too spoiled these days. Once they learn that a newer version of ANYTHING is coming to their device, they absolutely HAVE to have it. And if a company decides to back out of its promise (like Sony did with ICS for Xperia Play), people will cry on internet forums and some even decide to get rid of their phone in favour of another one that can run ICS. Though they somehow ignore the fact that doing this, they lose the BIGGEST advantage Xperia Play has over any other phone - physical controls.
My next phone will be Sony Xperia U SK25i
Getting it near Xmas and will keep my play

It's not about ICS itself, it's about Sony not keeping promises: ICS, PSP games etc.
Speaking for myself, The Xperia play is a good phone, not great, i bought seeking for game specs on a phone, such as you would by a pc for games, you would think it would have alot more then any phone, but in fact it had less specs the only thing it has is physical controls, but in may games you can switch your physical keyboard to make it a gamepad or add a usb gamepad to work with it, so it really doesnt give you such a difference, im always laggy on games and even on the homescreen some times, ICS on the rom from keiran im running much better then on the 2.3.4 official firmware, thats why im going to leave behind the play.
Besides the fact of sony backing up on releasing the ICS which i've been expected since they announce it

I'm getting the htc one s the performance off that phone is mental can't wait for it.
As I'm on contract and it ends in a couple months I can still keep my play and I probably will for some time but just for a gaming machine.

sony should just release the sources for their touchpads, this would be great, and we can finally switch to roms like cm9 and aokp with touchpad support!
Well, for me I'll switch back to good old HTC with the One X this time, only reason I bought an SE Xperia is cause of the gamepad and so far it's been a real good experience. I don't care about the ICS it's ugly. One X with MIUI rom I'm looking forward to.
As someone who had a Galaxy Nexus and used a USB OTG cable for my USB gamepad, the Play is a savior. I thought I'd be all set, but it prevents you from charging the device at the same time. Plus you have to prop it up somewhere. It was really annoying. Nothing beats physical controls, and this thing runs emulators like a champ. No complaints here.
The fact that I know for as long as I have this phone I need to stick to the same version is depressing. Since I cant unlock my bl I can't install the epic Roms. Thats the only reason I no longer want to keep my phone, id rather a regularly updated one. But I'm not selling this phone yet. I'll give it awhile.

Why can't you unlock? At least you don't have to pay like R800x users.
I also still like the play and as I got no extra money, I won't be able to switch to another phone in a while.
That it's not getting update to ICS is for me on the one side noot so much important...
But on the other site... I simply hate getting lied right to my face, and thats what happend here. I bought the phone with SONY's promise it will get ICS in April and now it doesn't.
Thats actually ground enough to sue them because they tricked you into buying it with false promises.
Highlighting that aspect from another side - They are not keeping their well documented promise to update to android 4, that means my phone is missing all the functions an android 4 update would have brought -> Underperforming phone / phone with missing functionalities, as they promised to update and now do not. Should be enough to get some money back as you do not get the full functionalities you actually bought by paying full price...
tbh. I'm just pissed of at the company right now... Sony (we) make. (You) believe
I got the galaxy 3 and I'm not looking back.. Best phone I've ever had

So, what will happen now with the Xperia Play?

Hi there.
After all that happened with the ICS update (this thread is not for talking about it), I have some questions about the Xperia Play that I think are very important and Sony should clarify with some kind of official message.
- Will be there more updates for the Xperia Play? I mean, they could fix some bugs (like the MTP USB and Windows 7...) and add some more features on Gingerbread...
- What happens with the Playstation Suite? It was supposed to come with the ICS update, so? Will we still get it if the Xplay stays on Gingerbread?
- This is not for Sony, but I think it's important too: What happens with some emulators that were going to support the "analog sticks" on ICS?
I know that some people here has talked with Sony via their support chat, did they say anything about these things? What do you think about all this?
Please don't flood the thread with useless comments like "Sony sucks", "OMG the Xperia Play is already dead", etc. Thanks.
1. I believe someone's chat with sony came to the conclusion that gingerbread may still get updates (possible bringing new features in the stead of ICS)
2. PS Suite will likely still be released, but I've not heard much about it
3. They still do support ICS. I doubt they'll do anything about it for gingerbread though, seeing as it was only included in ICS because of the easier implementation
About as likely as windows xp being updated with aero
Again, i Don't have have any issue with MTP mode on W7....MSC also no problem, even in Xubuntu
In fact, my phone is not recognized with MTP mode IN WINDOWS XP...
In a Chat with Sony they said that updates will continue (highly doubt it)
The big question in my mind is:
Will the devs still release games for Xperia Play?
I mean games that a single-core processor can run fluently and games that have XP's pad support?
I don't care if we don't get ICS AS LONG AS we still get some new game here and there. Also more PS Suite games would be welcome. I am sure someone more in-the-know will provide useful information on this...

Ofcourse the Xperia Play will still be supported by all developers.
Look N.O.V.A 3 was released that was optimized and now we got Dead Trigger which will be optimized as it's made by madfingergames.
So the Xperia Play has still got a long way to go !
It will NOT die !
^ If ever we need to give the case for optimisation, we should cite the guy from SE who said that Xperia Play owners were more likely to pay for games.
Xperia Play owners are proper gamers and remember the devs that are good to us!

Gameloft figured that out real quickly, by WAP shopping up will recently the Xperia Play versions of all their games, so when the Play store had a sale we still paid full price. It wasn't till MC3 came out that you could get Play store versions that worked.

Well I don't mind the WAP shop actually. Been using it for years, even on my old devices ;P

My opinion is within a year this section will almost be dead, most of the great developers will have gone, then 6 months later this section is put into the Legacy section, Quad cores are now out, single cores are gone, no one buys Single cores anymore, I intend to buy a Asus Transformer prime rather than a new phone, I want a tablet.
and what about some games that somy promised to us , some psp game.
also sony's marketing-snior manager has told about : just wit and see what we wanna do on xperia play ( 4 or 5 mounth before )
You already have PS SUITE!! It is just a program to allow developers to publish games to the ps store for pspocket
I say lets all take to soney for ics ti be launched to xperia play even if Xperia play looses the ps certification or what ever or they cqn just update the beta to a full working rom with camera and WiFi fix lets all submit a post on soney forum or talk duractly to them

I predict that the Xperia Play's future will go a lot like it's present...
• Xperia Play will continue to rack up on negative press, which of course will be taken as fact by the group of total idiots I like to call the "We don't own it or know anything about it... but we'll judge it anyway!" group.
• People will hate and people will call it a failure because there seriously are people dumb enough to judge a devices validity by sales (and if you ask them, not a single one will know how many games Xperia Play has, or how well it runs with it's 'supposedly obsolete' specs).
• At the end of the day, everyone who actually owns and Xperia Play (and has something of a functional brain) will continue seeing that it gets new, impressive, high-rating games as it always has
• Other controller solutions will continue being touted as "Xperia Play killers"... and never ever reach even a third of the compatible games Xperia Play has under it's belt.

Sorry, but no.
It's a cellphone/handheld console hybrid at least. For me it's definitely not just a cellphone and I'd dare say most people who bought it - primarily for playing games - would agree.

Is this the future of gaming on our phones? Since there will be no Xperia PLAY 2...

Saw this the other day but just now decided to share it, I am sure many people have already seen this but in case there are some that have not..
Nyko and Nvidia have announced 2 new gamepads for the Tegra 3 devices, perhaps eventually these will be made available to all android devices. Personally I have the GameGripper on my last two android phones before coming to the Xperia PLAY. I would hate to have to drag around a game controller for my phone when the Xperia PLAY has it built into the device.... this would be a possiblity as a worst case scenario, still hoping that a Xperia PLAY 2 will come out... but in the event there really will not be a 2, these masy just work, I will give these props for having what looks like two nobs for the movement/viewing like on a xbox/ps3 controller.

Yeah, saw that part too. I have never been a fan of HTC. All their phones look the same to me. If an xperia play 2 were to be released by HTC and it had gamepads and good specs I would strongly consider it... but it must have either stock vanilla android or some serious specs to push out the performance it would need for games with Sense. Anyway.... just my thoughts...
It seems the playstation certification has nothing to do with physical gamepad as the One series will be certified...
It's just about Sony and HTC exchanging some dollar bills...
well... atleast the analog thumbs are better
What do they expect us to do with a controller like this? How can we use it with a phone? I mean..we've had ways to use controllers on tablets/phones for a while. Am I going to have to prop it up to use it? Kind of defeats the purpose. They need a mount of some sort.
well if its new it will probably be quad core like the One X and if games are made specifically for it they could use all the 4 cores, but im with you, unless it has the gamepad built in im not really interested although i love Sony Xperia too much to even bother considering another make.
but Xperia are lagging in the smartphone market just bringing out a duel core when HTC just bring out a quad core its a smart move by Playstation to use there hardware, money and resources although i would love a Play2 its just never going to happen i think

Supposedly there is a spring like holder that pops up above the controller where your phone sits in place. And I believe the controller runs off of bluetooth.... I'll have to find the article. It gave more details then the one above, I just couldnt find where I read it...
Saw a comment somewhere that said that although the rumours for a Xperia play 2 were snubbed, its quite possible that the Playstation mobile would be for a series of phones touchbased and that if you wanted the king of Playstation mobile it would be a gamepad based gaming phone.... I dont know about that but if you really thought about it, it could be a great idea.
Make the Playstation mobile for a series of phones across the board from different manufacturers which would increase the devices visibility around the world, then add in addition a specific true gaming device that would share the same but with a gamepad.
Wonder........hmm........ if this were true it would at least provide Sony with the visibility and would allow more $$$ to flow into their pocket...
Isn't the Xperia S already PS Certified?
i really really can't understand , with so many request ... and there is so many gamers ...
why , really sony acting like that ! why sony never want to make a xperia play 2 .
sony has build several new phones and all of theme are the same !
xperis s , p , ion ... , i ( personally ) don't care , cause the difference is just on ram ,or camera ... ( like htc )
i have question : sony ,you have build all this phone same as each other ( just little diffrence ) , but why you don't want to build xperia play2 for us ?!!
i'm not sure if you have any request about (for example) xperia p . or acro , or ...
but it really make me confusing
those request should makes you glad , but you never listen to our request ...
i'm sorry for my comment , but sony-mobile acting really really bad disappointing

They won't make a Play 2 because the current Play was pretty much a failure......It's as simple as that.
You want proof?
Ask Nokia how things went for them when the N-Gage failed. Even putting the games on the N-Series was a disaster.
It's in Sonys best interest not to repeat Nokias mistake as after the N-Gage/N-Series, Nokia has pretty much fallen off of the face of the Earth

The current Play failed... but the N-gage was a disaster of epic proportions compared to it. The Play was a rousing success in comparison.
They could theoretically launch a new Play that is better specced and not have the problems they had with this. The main problem with the Play is the "Geeks" saw right through the specifications and wrote the phone off immediately. If you can't sell the crowd thats gonna be showing it off to their friends and that people trust their opinions, you won't be selling any of them. All the gadget blogs ragged on it no matter how well it ran due to the slow spec as well. Theres a large crowd that doesn't see beyond cnet.com and gizmodo.com .
Thats who needs to be sold on it.
If I have to drain my battery with a BT connection, care about managing the charge for two devices and deal with the pair/connect nonsense... then it's just as bad as living in the touch screen gaming ghetto.
I see these controller peripherals becoming yet another iControlPad/Gametel in the sense that it'll be completely goddamned useless outside of emulators... never anywhere close to being compatible with over 300 games like Xperia Play is.
Xperia Play til the day it dies!
Agreed. Could not have said it better.

There will probably never be an Xperia Play 2. Will there be a true Playstation Phone? Maybe, or maybe Sony will simply integrate calling features into the Vita. It would be too much competition with the Vita for them to release a powerful, Playstation Certified PSPhone anytime soon. Let's just be honest. Perhaps 10+ years from now there will be some next-gen mobile gaming device from Sony, but it doesn't seem to be anywhere in sight right now. It's just not a wise business decision at the moment.
i dont know about everyone but I've always been an HTC fan, their XDA community has always been great and updated and I wouldn't look back for once if HTC releases a new phone with gamepad which of course they cannot because of Sony.
And besides I have bought an iPad last week, gaming on it is surprisingly very good with all the Gameloft releases. Dont have to wait for months for android version of the same game. I can play the new Asphalt 7 and the Amazing Spider-Man before it's android release.
As for phones One X it is.
I'm not an ICS fan but I'm not even getting proper selling price for Xperia Play now since its still running gingerbread.
