Hi Everyone,
I saw a lot of posts in Xperia Play section like " I will buy a new phone. I will switch my Play. " I know, the reason is ICS update. But, If we get ICS, we will never use it smoothly, right ? Ice Cream Sandiwch was came a lot of Xperia. But, which Xperia can use ICS smoothly ? Let's assume that, we got ICS. ICS uses a lot of RAM. (Let anyone accept this, please!) And ICS isn't a gaming friend. But Xperia Play is gaming phone. I mean ICS is not for us anyway. What do you guys think ?
hmm, older phones with similar or worse specs can handle ics well, like nexus s,htc one v (same chipset, 512mb ram)
The problem with ICS is the gaming aspect, not hardware limitations.

People are too spoiled these days. Once they learn that a newer version of ANYTHING is coming to their device, they absolutely HAVE to have it. And if a company decides to back out of its promise (like Sony did with ICS for Xperia Play), people will cry on internet forums and some even decide to get rid of their phone in favour of another one that can run ICS. Though they somehow ignore the fact that doing this, they lose the BIGGEST advantage Xperia Play has over any other phone - physical controls.
My next phone will be Sony Xperia U SK25i
Getting it near Xmas and will keep my play

I think ICS is just have Beautiful UI , Nova Launcher and Chrome. I'm happy with Gingerbread. **** you sony, I dont care ICS so you can stop any development you want
Tapatalk 2 ile R800i cihazımdan gönderildi
It's not about ICS itself, it's about Sony not keeping promises: ICS, PSP games etc.
Speaking for myself, The Xperia play is a good phone, not great, i bought seeking for game specs on a phone, such as you would by a pc for games, you would think it would have alot more then any phone, but in fact it had less specs the only thing it has is physical controls, but in may games you can switch your physical keyboard to make it a gamepad or add a usb gamepad to work with it, so it really doesnt give you such a difference, im always laggy on games and even on the homescreen some times, ICS on the rom from keiran im running much better then on the 2.3.4 official firmware, thats why im going to leave behind the play.
Besides the fact of sony backing up on releasing the ICS which i've been expected since they announce it

sony should just release the sources for their touchpads, this would be great, and we can finally switch to roms like cm9 and aokp with touchpad support!
Well, for me I'll switch back to good old HTC with the One X this time, only reason I bought an SE Xperia is cause of the gamepad and so far it's been a real good experience. I don't care about the ICS it's ugly. One X with MIUI rom I'm looking forward to.
As someone who had a Galaxy Nexus and used a USB OTG cable for my USB gamepad, the Play is a savior. I thought I'd be all set, but it prevents you from charging the device at the same time. Plus you have to prop it up somewhere. It was really annoying. Nothing beats physical controls, and this thing runs emulators like a champ. No complaints here.
The fact that I know for as long as I have this phone I need to stick to the same version is depressing. Since I cant unlock my bl I can't install the epic Roms. Thats the only reason I no longer want to keep my phone, id rather a regularly updated one. But I'm not selling this phone yet. I'll give it awhile.

Why can't you unlock? At least you don't have to pay like R800x users.
I also still like the play and as I got no extra money, I won't be able to switch to another phone in a while.
That it's not getting update to ICS is for me on the one side noot so much important...
But on the other site... I simply hate getting lied right to my face, and thats what happend here. I bought the phone with SONY's promise it will get ICS in April and now it doesn't.
Thats actually ground enough to sue them because they tricked you into buying it with false promises.
Highlighting that aspect from another side - They are not keeping their well documented promise to update to android 4, that means my phone is missing all the functions an android 4 update would have brought -> Underperforming phone / phone with missing functionalities, as they promised to update and now do not. Should be enough to get some money back as you do not get the full functionalities you actually bought by paying full price...
tbh. I'm just pissed of at the company right now... Sony (we) make. (You) believe
I got the galaxy 3 and I'm not looking back.. Best phone I've ever had

Hello Guys
I am a samsung galaxy s2 owner, i am contemplating switching it for the xperia play.
however i am in 2 minds i'm thinking to wait for the xperia play successor, which will be a improvement, if there is one that is.
at the mo it looks like xperia play is a disappointment & SE might scrap it.
On the other hand what about the playstation suite certified sector they have recently opened which the xperia play and 2 others tabs are promoting,
does the play have a future.
whats your recommendations guys?

If you want to buy a phone, whichever it is, you must buy it for what it can do now. The Xperia Pay allows you to play games and emulators better than any other phone. It's not state of the art tech, it doesn't have an orgasmic screen, but you can destroy people in multiplayer FPS at your liking.

Keep the Galaxy II, that is all I need to say.....
Depends what you like to do with your phone.... Touchscreen gaming??? Give me a break.... That's like using a computer without a mouse... Yea its possible with just keyboard but not the best experience. Dual core phones that are out now are fast but by the time they start optimizing good games or programs to dualcores, the quad will take over. You can't chase technology unless you are getting a new phone every 6 months. Get the play now if you are a gamer, i promise you would love it. And if you are not a gamer, get a nokia flip phone. It makes calls and texts without dual core, and the battery lasts more then a week without charging

Where did you hear that?
There might be a successor there might not? Either way it won't change the experience with the sexplay. It really won't make any difference at all cause it's in the future and if you can't appreciate what you have now and keep chasing the newest and presumably best you'll never enjoy what you have. It's a gamers phone and that's it's purpose and it does its job really good. If you're not that much into gaming there's better phones out there that will suite your needs.
The sexplay as a phone alone is ok and as a gaming phone just plain awesome. It can the things most other android devices can do and then it just tops it with a gamepad.
I defo wouldn't wait for a successor i would by now and then trade in for the next sexplay when or if it comes.
I think it will come and i already think this device is a sucsess.

Personally I'm glad that SE had enough decency to at least ship the thing with Gingerbread...look at Motorola and LG. And you're 100% correct about being happy with what you have. At the rate new Android phones are being released we're likely to have a phone with a Sandy Bridge i7 by next year.

Agreed. Weak display and low app storage hurts the Play, compared to the SG2.
That is unless old school gaming is about 80% of what the OP wants. Then the Play is tops.
don't see why everyone is giving out about the Play's display, apart from the brightness I think it's beast!
There is nothing the s2 can run that the play can't... That's all I gotta say. There isnt a need for a successor if this one can run everything out there.

Let's be honest guys, it is all about the gaming with the Play. The screen is not super AMOLED, granted, but I have no problems with it, even in sunlight. No phone is great in bright sunlight, so that argument is a non starter really. Dual core? No, but like the PC world, how much software is currently being written to exploit this, there can't be much yet, surely? It's horses for courses. You want a big display, don't get the Play. You want a physical keyboard, don't get the Play. You want a brilliant gaming phone, not just contest, get the Play.

App storage is not a problem if you root your phone, and even if you don't It will still hold a lot of Apps if you manage it properly. Most of the time people behave like kids in a sweet shop, download every app they think they might need and only use a small subset of them.
The screen on the Play is the best of the bunch of my phones.
I thought I would be playing mostly emulated games but I have been pleasantly suprised by the support GameLoft & others are giving to the Play.
If you like playing action games on your smartphone there is no alternative to the Xperia Play on the market.
Infact the phone is very snappy Android Phone.
Hi Guys,
Well im using my play since september 2011...
At the first i was suprised about the good gaming qualitiy..
Then i wanted to flash roms on it and it was the pure hell i think..
At the beginning of 2011 i started to android with a Galaxy S i9000 and it has soo many roms at the moment like ICS, MIUI and CM7/9 and all are working perfect..
So for me the xperia play is become boring cause there arent many custom roms which are good working.
Okay we have MIUI = BT and TP not working
CM7 = TP are not working in Some games
CM9 = Data is Buggy
That's why I feel compelled to use the stock firmware SE
What are you thinkin about the Play and Custom Roms?

I haven't rooted my phone or unlocked bootloaders and stuff but I have to say the Xperia Play is a amazing device. I haven't been bored of it since I got it and it's been 5 months.
I'm loving it !
The only thing that started to annoy me after 6 months of having it is the slider. The gap is getting more and more annoying and the slider started to loosen it's stability.

1- People who are obsessed with games .
2- People who want to waste thier time at work.

At op, even though I came from a hd2 (probably one of the most versatile mobile phones ever in terms of software) I'm still not bored of this phone. There is enough here to keep me busy and ICS (official) shouldn't be two far off which will mean more goodies from the chefs.
ya we dont have many roms to play with
Before my Xperia Play I owned an Xperia Arc, got my Play in September too, And I can say I have not got bored yet..., The Xperia Arc has a lot more roms and tweaks but I've never been a fan of custom roms anyway. Both good devices and I do not regret any of my Androids.
I never really used ROMs or tweaks on my Xperia Arc, and I never visited the Xperia Arc section more than once, Never got into modding Android until my Xperia Play.
I love my Xperia Play even though i'm not into modding and stuff like that.
Even though i'm a gamer I do use for other stuff as well like watching videos, whatsapp and surfing the net.
I think of it as a high end smartphone with physical buttons.
It's awesome !
Had my phone for over a year, love the thing.
Stayed on stock ROM the entire time , thought about rooting it , but eh.
Used ADW launcher and Go launcher , find Go Launcher is a bit better but more laggy.
However i find Sony is doing a great job supporting the phone , ICS update is in another month and a bit. Playstation Suite is in a few weeks. ( i bet at the same time as ICS).
Other then a few minor annoying issues.
I know for a fact we will see an Xperia Play 2 next year. However do to Sony taking over the Ericcson part. Bet its going to be called the Xperia Vita. Or something along that line

Had mine since May 2011 and I myself am starting to feel bored.
I'm rooted on 2.3.4 with stock SE ROM. Oh well,PSVITA next week and I'll be a happy gamer
Been satisfactory to me. I only bought it to do all those elaborate smartphone functions that my DS/PSP/VITA can't, while also breaking free from the constraint that quality TACTILE gaming required me to have a whole other device on my person.
Far from bored and at the rate we get high-rating game software I don't see that changing soon.

I liked it for like 3-4 months. I was so exited when i first got it. I thought like "Oh! I will be able to play PSP games and ****! this is gonna be awesome". Buuuuut after i finished Zelda OOT I got bored. I started to look for good games, and yes, I found some like GTA 3, but the controls isn't just working out for me.
So, yesterday, I ordered a HTC chacha. Why? Because I've always loved the design of the Blackberry, but I hate the OS. So what do you do? Well, you buy a Blackberry look-a-like with Android = HTC chacha! I will receive it in like 2-3 days. I think I'll be satisfied. Plus, it was only like $150 so.
The Xperia Play wasn't what I was expecting at first. Sure, it was cool to show of N64oid, GTA3 and some other games for friends.. but other then that, it's not for me.
But I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the dev's on this forum for all the help through out this 6 months I've had this phone, love you guys. And I'm sure I'll pop in sometimes when I've decided to turn my Xperia Play into a gaming device only. Take care guys!

I want to say thanks too all people here too and goodbye, because and of the month im buying me a new contract with n HTC One S (my first HTC )
I can wait for Xplay2 for 3 years or until my phone breaks.
I dont personaly see the point in upgrading every year, xperia play is still going to receive good support for a year, rest is in the hands of community.
At least you guys are choosing to get new phones. I wasn't given a choice when it suddenly died lol
Enjoying my new S2 LTE (skyrocket in the US) but there are certain things I miss about the play. Damn replacement parts take way too long to order..
My recommendation: don't sell the play when you get your new device. You may not think so now, but you'll start missing it later.

I agree with you there totally. I'm gonna stick with the Xperia Play as well cause that gamepad is a must have feature for me.
I don't care about it not being dual core and all that as long I have the gamepad i'm happy with it !
And if you think about it there's some decent games coming out on it as well e.g Max Payne will be coming out ! ( We Xperia Play users will be enjoying it playing it on our Xperia Play's while others will have a uncomfortable experience playing it on a touchscreen
Lol dont forget multiplayer. Like to see how dual core will help you not get your face shot off by play users

I like the part where you clearly have no idea what you're on about.
Call me crazy, but I can't get that worked up about an OS.
The Xperia Play remains the device I've always dreamed of carrying with me, ever since I first saw the PSP and wished it could fit in a pocket and make calls and texts. If you'd have told me that device would one day stop getting official OS updates, I would hardly have been shocked or put off it. If you'd have told me the manufacturer released its latest beta freely and remained supportive of unofficial development (I know part of the thanks to that is Android), I'd have been impressed.
I have friends with Galaxy Notes and S2s and they see my gamepad, and freaking ZELDA on N64oid, and their eyes light up. It's a really, really cool device. Not that I hate their phones or anything, but I wouldn't swap. Hell I wouldn't swap for a Galaxy S3 or HTC One X or whatever the latest is currently. Now they may be the dream devices for some people here, but for me it would be as exciting as swapping a PS3 for an ironing board. If I didn't think that buttons are an essential for making games fun, I'd buy an iPhone, seriously. Much as I prefer the open nature of Android, iOS has many more apps.
90% of Play owners out there do not have root or an unlocked bootloader. They are not as technical as posters on XDA, and would not have been expecting game buttons to go wrong. It would have been a support nightmare for Sony to have let those people upgrade if there were going to be issues. For the rest of us, we can flash the beta / whatever dev roms we want. What I mainly liked about the ICS beta was the hardware accelerated browsing. But if Gingerbread ends up being the way to go, then I'll just use Opera for that. Nothing else on a generic gamepad-less ICS phone would really hold a candle to playing console games with buttons whereever I want.
I'm much more pissed off at EA for not making our optimised exclusives, FIFA and Dead Space, available in the UK for people who were too late for that deal, even to buy.
Its a phone im getting sick of tinkering with it....i just wanna play my games, text my *****es and occasionly call my parents and tell them im alive...ics pfft.

I find the part where you say that OP has no idea what hes on about to be worthy of a good ol fashioned facepalm.
ICS is pretty much all OP says it is. Graphical and Performance tweaks. Swipe off notifications (pointless as I have a handy little cross on Gingerbread that removes notifications anyway), Swipe task killer (not as amazing as it sounds as I have a better way...close the app properly) and some browser related stuff like hardware accelerated browsing and swipe off tabs (again, just open up tabs and click the little cross in the corner)
Almost everything on ICS is there to save you a whole, get this, few seconds. More often than not you dont end up swiping a particular notification/app/tab off and end up opening it instead.

Its true that we dont need it. But like my self i bought the phone since i have in mind buying an ICS but didnt wanted to spend $600 or more in it.
I own an ICS tablet and its the first android that doesnt need tweeks or that i find no use of a custom rom to make it work the way i like.

I love the part where you think you do. Do me a favor, how about you buy a different brand of phone so you can realize that Sony is actually just as good, if not better at supporting their devices than HTC, Motorola, Samsung, [insert name here].
Better yet, skip a step and just buy a ****ing iPhone. It will compliment your douchiness nicely.
I dont need it, and I'm getting a Hayabusa when it launches locally.
I have a Xoom with 4.0.4 ICS and I don't see why everyone is making such a big fuss.
However, I would have liked to see Sony push out one more GB update for the play with updated Qualcomm drivers, updated Sony apps and maybe improved Web browser.
Im just saying its really not worth the fuss lol who cares what I want is what I was promised ps suite isnt this supposed to be a sweet ass gaming phone with a tit load of games ? I'm never buying HTC again, as they stopped supporting my legend after one update
I'm never buying Samsung again because they totally f**ked up the file system on the Galaxy S
I'm never buying Motorola again because the screen in my RAZR broke from a 2 foot drop..while in a case
I'm never buying Apple again because they f**ked up the iOS4 update for the 3g
Etc etc
My point being why not just stop buying phones, since no company is perfect.
I'm not saying that if a phone doesn't work you should stop buying phones from that company. I'm saying that when the company lies to you twice after all the phones you've ever owned were by that company, it's time you moved on.
Maybe the galaxy s3 or the nexus? Any other ideas anyone???

Yeah they were great. Had the white slide one. Broke it by leaving it in my pocket in the washing machine. Still worked though except for the motion sensor and the speakers were damaged. Traded it in by using tipex on the indicator.

Feels like banging my head off a brick wall here...
You know, there's a reason we aren't getting ICS. It's not just Sony saying we can't have it. The ICS beta was released so Sony could see what the bugs were. The main bug turned out to be the Touch-pads, or lack thereof, when running ICS.
With the Play being a gaming device, if the Touch-pads don't work then that is a good enough reason not to release it. Sure there's flashable fixes for the Touch-pads but that doesn't work on most of the games. Mainly Gameloft and EA games.
Any anger should be directed towards Gameloft and EA for not wanting to update their code to incorporate the Plays Touch-pads.
It would hurt Sony more to release an update that hampers the main selling point of the device. I understand that it has nothing to do with the main hardware of the Play (RAM etc) and it's all because of the Touch-pads
Let me ask you this: If Microsoft said that they were releasing an OS that looked beautiful but removed support for Mouse and Touchpads (for laptops/Netbooks) would you still want to upgrade?

I totally agree with you on this.
I dunno about others but I bought my Xperia Play because of the gamepad. ICS in exchange of my gamepad? Heck NO! I have the ICS looks with my Play on Gin2ICS rom anyway.
Get over it. Its a d*mn phone for god sakes.

I was owner of x10 mini pro too, I think i never heard Sony (Ericsson) ever promise to update that phone to gingerbread.
I'm not defending Sony here, Sony didn't lie, they promises an update to all xperia 2011 device, and they already done it, except xperia play but it acceptable since it will broke the purpose of the play, they even launch beta version for us, it proof they keep their promises but unfortunately the play decided not receiving the update for it own sake.
Please use spell-check..
Why be loyal to a brand? They don't give two ****s about you, varity is the spice of life
