Sorry for my bad english
cant see the pics..anyways dead pixels r dead but f**ked pixels r of different colors..which are equally dead..btr show it to service centre and get it replaced..
Ok, i fix the pictures, i dont know if are dead or stuck pixels, but sometimes this sh*t becomes bigger and sometimes become small
try pressing on the pixels and see whether they move like a fluid stuck between glass..
mine suffered a stroke too and I have two big spots on the screen.
Its really a god gift to me, I got a reason to **** moto. Will buy a new one.

Happened to me twice. First time it happened it got worse after a couple of hours then when i woke up the next day it dissappeared. now it happened again and it had already been a week since and i noticed its very slowly starting to cure. hopefully it'll be completely gone in a week or 2.
both case it happened due to a drop into the ground. First time was from table height, face first. 2nd time wasn't sure as it fell out of my shirt pocket while i was having a nap.

1. Take off your baterai, micro sd and sim card
+ put it in a plastic bag and seal.
2. Put your "defy" in to Freezer for 24 hours or more
3. Take out your defy from freezer
4. Make sure your defy dry first
5. After you sure your defy dry, put back your baterai, micro sd and sim card.

Nice suggestion man and the OP already got a positive result.
As I said, I also have this problem due to a stroke on LCD. There was just 3 small dots which increased like this.
Do you think I can cure this with the above method? I am also worried about damaging my defy due to moisture if I put it in the freezer.

Wrap it up in a plastic bag. Wrap it reeeeeeeally good, then duct tape it. After taking it out of the freezer, let it stay with the bag for at least 6 to 8 hours, 'cause when you take a cold object into a warm room, it condenses. Make sure your phone is well acclimated and there is no condense whatsoever. Then you can unwrap it and put the battery back in.

I apologize because I'm using google translator. I really believed in the tutorial and tips from the post. Now returned to congratulate the developers for the information. I do not know why the dead pixels, but I know it worked as I instructed. I was surprised to see the photos posted of the "Jkmoran" ... identical pictures of my defy. Thanks to "forum.xda-developers.com" and its users has been fixed. THANK YOU ALL!
could u post a before and after pic?
unfortunately I had this idea before, but the LCD was cleaned thoroughly cleaned. I was so happy. I did exactly as instructed here in the forum ... I have not changed any procedure.

Damn it, this is the reason you can't use the words "rugged" and "smartphone" in the same sentence with a straight face.
I remember my old Sony Ericsson C702. It had a lower IPS norm than my Defy+ but I could - and did - hammer in nails with it.

did you try it?
because actually as long as there is no batery SIM or SD card on the cellphone, you can put it on the freezer without any kind of worries (actaully I put it on the freezer once the pone was actually ON and nothng happened, only you could see the moisture on the screen but the phone worked) just make sure the phone is DRY before you put everything back in. If you want you can try the old Rice technique to make sure it´s compleatly dry.
I tried the trick but it didnt help. The spots are too big. U can see the pic in my previois post.
But nevertheless I appreciate the suggestion and happy that I failed after trying.
To others, if any one of u are going to try this mehod, be informed that the liquid damage indicator will turn red due to moisture and u might loose ur warranty.

There was any sugar in the coffee? Milk?
I will suggest just to clean the outside with a wet paper towel, then with a dry one... athena is quite protected. Use a contact cleaner for USB and cable port, waitsince it is completely dry then insert the battery, the SIM card and SD and cross your fingers...

sorry for my long post and bad english
Just don't use it for today...
If something would help, it would be this:
Find a manual for disassembling the device (you just need to put the display out of the device).
Then you should just spray a LITTLE BIT of contact cleaner on the device.
(Contact cleaner = That spray what you use when it's winter and you can't use the locks of doors with your keys).
That will give more chance of the device working than that it dies while waiting.
You don't have a "contact cleaner"? Then tomorrow buy one and don't use the device for today (leave the battery out too).
If this all fails due to you being lazy then just go to a telecom store which repairs phones and pray that they won't break the device. Not everyone understands how to handle PDA's. Especially, not an Athena type.

I dumped coffee in a desktop keyboard once and just drained it out. It dried and worked for 6 months. The contacts corroded from the acids in the coffee but it took some time. I probably would consider washing out the keyboard (detached from the 7500, of course) and drying it thoroughly under a lamp or with a fan until completely dry.
Wait to see if anybody else would like to comment on this before you do it. It might be the end of the keyboard but you probably could get a replacement from HTC if necessary.

I would call HTC to see if they think coffee/cream could have entered around the keys and to ask what they think you should do.
There does not appear to be any way to open it up and clean it so the only way would be to put it in running water that I can see. However, it might also make the keyboard unuseable. Only you can decide.

Techntrek,
The Zip download of the manual (#5) has come up as corrupted - I've tried a couple of times from home and work (both Xp machines).
Have you downloaded and extracted it successfully?
yes, I got it a week ago. Im not sure what the other 4 files are for, Ive only opened the zip file.
Next time you wet your phone, this article may provide some very useful tips on how to deal with it.

There are 5 files because it is what is known as a split archive. In other words the file is so big, that on the server it has to be split up in order to upload it. With these archives you download all parts and then open the one marked ZIP. When it extracts the files it automatically looks for the other four parts. If you don't bother downloading the other parts it will just give you an error.

I have had the same issue at time too..if you still think about your warranty then go to local service center..and clean the phone..
or...
you can try the tips below:
http://www.berryreview.com/2008/12/22/faq-how-do-you-clean-your-trackball/
Wal-Mart sells these individually wrapped, pre-moistened lens cleaner cloths (kind of like the hand cleaner packages you get at some restaurants).
Anyway, they’re called Zeiss Lens Cloths and they sell them in the Optical Section, up front where they sell eye glasses. They clean the BB from top to bottom extremely well and help brighten and clean the trackball. Package of 50 is like 2 bucks.
I find with the q-tip method the cotton sticks to the trackball. my 2c
xavier – thanks for your post, i tried your suggestion for the Zeiss Lens Cloth premoistened wipes and it worked perfectly and I did not have to open the Blackberry Bold to solve the problem. I keep these wipes around for numerous uses in dealing with eye glasses, lens, or other similar uses. Thanks again.

If you have the warranty, might as well just take it in, but I have the cloths all ready, so I just clean it.
The pre-moistend lens cloths are used with the device intact. I just wipe down the trackball real well, rotate it a bit and continue cleaning until it rolls freely.
It happened also to me couple of times. Just blow quickly at the trackball using your lips or presurized air for computer keyboards. Not sure about any wet "ass wipes" which may leak into the phone inside. My method always works (so far) Service repair is last instance. Good luck!
The wipes don't help, the track ball opperates on a magnetic principle (the pick ups are soldered on the main board, the movment is controled by magnetic cylinders.) I had to send my phone in to htc after about two months, they replaced the main board and trackball assy. I had it appart also, there was nothing to clean, nor to fix. All sold state. (except the little rollers)

http://forums.crackberry.com/f2/trackball-will-not-scroll-down-276266/#post3298104
Ok so I was having the exact same problem, and I used to do tech support for these devices so I kno that they work just like a PC mouse. So..... wat I did is I took a straw cut it long way down (hotdog style if you remember how to do that from 1st grade haha) it into a very small size, about just enough to wrap around the trackball half way. Then I inserted the straw into the slot between the chrome and the trackball (this part can take some time so just be patient) you will be surprised how deep it can go, I went all the way till it stopped. Now you will have the straw sticking out of the BOLD. Bend the rest of the straw down so it is now folded parallel to the bold but still sticking in it. Now wat I did is I spent it clock wise for about a minute then yanked it out and you will notice a ton of lint/dirt pop out, after this you will want to blow on it while rolling with your finger in all directions. You should be seeing a lot of dirt rolling around by now, and also the straw will have a tiny bit of wear on it. Proceed to do this as much as you like but doing so in 1 direction will produce more dirt. I went clockwise about 5 times then counter clockwise about another 5. Then viola it was like brand new. Hope this works for you crackberry heads out there. Deuces!!

to pull out the ball you must open the snap case totally.

I Just disassembly my HTC Snap s522 to clean the trackball today,
I can confirm you now guys..the htc snap s522 trackball is same type like blackberry 8310 trackball..so you can replace your trackball with BB 8310 trackball.
I just tried my friend Blackberry 8310 trackball and tried to running it on my snap..and it worked well.
you guys are looking too deep into this lol. this happened to me just push the ball in and move it around it will start working again

our snap use same type like blackberry trackball and sometimes the trackball will stop working till 6 months of use..(base on report at BB forum) the ball will become slick after 6 month.
you will need to know how to replace the ball (after 1 year service guarantee expired) anyway..thats why i concern about the trackball..
For me Being to know i can use the bb trackball on my snap is great..because cheap aftermarket BB trackball is everywhere in my country only $4 (include trackball house) compare to costly oem ball (will cost you about $20)
My tips:
You just need to keep the OEM trackball house and use the cheap aftermarket ball on it, you willl still has HTC OEM trackball performance on your snap.

My Xoom has been rather unfortunate since I got it. I take it with me everywhere and that includes when I go out drinking with friends... It's taken many a fall. This has shown me what I deem a rather major flaw in the Xoom's design, internally. Allow me to demonstrate:

What you'll need to start... Pardon the crapola pics, I took more than this but the SD card on my Droid is going caput so most of them are just empty jpgs... Luckily the ones I salvaged were able to show the general idea. Anyways. The bit you'll use to take the back shell off is a T-5. The one I have is a T-5H but you don't need one of those, these screws don't have a pin in the middle. That's just for the first 2 screws and the screws that hold the plastic half on, you'll need a T-6 for every other screw in the Xoom. You'll also want some kind of sturdy plastic shims, I used clippings from an old debit card. The tool kit I have pictured can be bought at an auto parts store(I think I picked it up at O'reilly's).
Unscrew the 2 screws that hold the USB/HDMI/charging plate on, this will come off. Keep your screws in a secure location so you don't lose them!
That's what it looks like without the cover.
From here, slide the back cover down, you'll notice it stops at a certain point, just enough to expose the expansion card Moto will replace for the 4G upgrade. They've made this thing super easy to upgrade in the future. Slide the cover back towards closed just a tiny bit so the clips aren't resting on the stop.
Slide those 2 pieces of plastic into the grooves, as illustrated, until you can't push them in any further, you've disengaged the stops, now, with the plastic still there, slide the cover the rest of the way off.
Here's where my SD card crapped out but it's no big deal. Moving...
The touchscreen controller is located in the lower right hand corner of the Xoom if you're looking at it from the back. As you can see, mine is dislodged and there's nothing actually securing it inside the Xoom besides double stick tape. The Xoom has like 57 screws inside it and they couldn't screw the touchscreen controller down with even one? No, it's got an adhesive on the back and then it's just pressed onto the metal frame... Not secure in the slightest, even a slight drop can dislodge it. I've already tried to use a better double stick tape, but that came undone, hence I'm doing this write-up.
This is my new solution, using a thin piece of foam doubled over itself. It's about a 2" by 2" square, maybe 1/8" thick or so, couldn't tell you where I got it, I just had it laying around. From here, with it sitting there, it's kind of tricky to get the Xoom back together, what I did was start lining up the back cover with the foam squished down against the touchscreen controller, then slid the cover back to its fully closed position. My foam happened to stay in place during all of this. It may not be that easy for others, YMMV.
So I boot up my Xoom, test it out, touch works again.
I'm still not certain I'm going to stay with this solution but we'll see. For now it's working perfectly. Even exchanging your Xoom for a new one isn't going to resolve this until Motorola actually resolves it themselves, which I doubt they will. Hope this was helpful, I'm not interested in getting into the gory details of full disassembly, that's beyond my pay grade.
I also just realized this solved the problem I was having with the right half of my screen thinking any kind of touch was a multitouch and pinch-zooming constantly. Win.
Fixed images, messed up the numbering when I posted.
Good, good stuff. Thanks for the write-up - these are the threads that used to differentiate xda from the hoards of other android forums.

Awesome! Thanks for the information. I'll be sure to fix this once my touch screen stops working.
I've got a crazy idea....how about not getting ****faced and dropping you xoom multiple times?!

I he was just being funny. I laughed.
So I got the cover off, got some foam in there
but I can't get the cover all the way on... its hairline just about to close up but Im afraid to use pressure
too much foam?
quick edit:
It was a slot on the bottom i kept hitting, i got it back on!
Will update with results tomorrow
edit2: most definitely still having the same problem after adding some foam to press down on that touch panel controller. Took me like 10 tries just to unlock the damn thing
WTF MOTOROLA !...anyone have any other suggestions? this is really pissing me off now.
edit3; so I took a deep breath and decided to investigate more... I have it open again, and holding down the actual connector seems to be improving the situation GREATLY. Im going to shift the foam from the controller to the connector and close it back up, and try again
Great thread. An idea of paint the back cover (white spray) are growing in my mind.
Hello,
I just wanted to share my solution for the unresponsive screen issue with the Motorola Xoom device:
reddit.com/r/xoom/comments/sytk0
I hope this helps anyone having a similar issue. Thank you.
Man i must say ur a brave heart...i cant even think of letting mine fall...seems kinda fragile....plus all the drop test videos screw around with your head

thanks for this tip, i know how to dissasemble my xoom now! lol
Nice post. I'm having exactly the same problem and it's very easy to see reports for this same issue all around. Crappy Moto! This is the first "how to" post on this issue. Thanks a lot. I'll give it a try. put
EDIT: Following your "how to", I did exactly the same you did. The touch controller was a bit loose so I tight it with a small piece of foam. The hard part was putting the case back in place with the foam inside, but with a bit of patience I could eventually close the whole thing and now it's working again. Will see until when. Probably this device is one within many that fits in the planned obsolescence industry standard. FKU Mr. Bernard London.
EDIT 2: I actually have a big compulsion on acquiring new geeky stuff, but I hate to spend money because this is the industry standard. I hate to buy crap, and if I want to, I'll buy chinese stuff from Deal Extreme. Paying hundreds of dollars in goods from a well established and named company should be a warrant, at least, that it was built to last!
EDIT 3: I'l be moving soon to a Sammy Note 10.1. Hopefully not based on the planned obsolescence of the Xoom, but because I want it to!
EDIT 4: My XOOM "caput" for good. As I said before, I'm on Sammy note 10.1 and the XOOM will eventually go to repair.

Got my Xoom back, and it's great. Even after rooting, re flashing, opening, messing around, it was fixed for free, under warranty. It seems Motorola knows they have a case of premature obsolescence in this case.

I went to the beach today and put my phone in my shoes on some rocks near the water (yes I know, very stupid mistake) . A huge wave came and knocked my shoes along with the phone into the water. My phone was literwlly floating in the water for about 5 seconds. At that point I didn't care about anything else, and ran and scooped it out and ran to dry it with my shirt. I took out the battery, sim and sd card and left it for half an hour. Despite what just happened, it turned on, with still fully functioning touch, no water in the screen, just about everything works, except a major issue of the speakerphone and mic. But i tested it with headphone and hands free and it is working. Other than this issue, which IS a major issue, i am just amazed that it is still functioning 95% properly.
Does anyone know what I could do to fix the speakerphone and mic? Can I fix it myself by opening it up, or should I just send it to Samsung? Would they figure out its water damaged, and not fix it? Or would they fix it, but for a cost?

I guess it's kinda late but I would suggest that you keep it off with battery, and sim and sd card out for much more than 30 minutes. Let's say overnight at a dry and warm environment.

It might help with many things. It helps me with mic and touch on my galaxy s two years ago. Screen was working and buttons too but touch did not respond and speaker was a half silent. After this rice procedure everything was fine.
You can bay Spare parts
I have changed my usb print-port, and i thing you can get trubble with charger, going beeb, beeb. showing your phone is on charger when not. Spare parts are cheap on ebay. I would get
"OEM Charger Port Micro USB Connector Mic Flex Cable Samsung Galaxy Note N7000" and
"Samsung Galaxy Note jack conn. flex with speaker"
You can get both parts for 28 US $. And your Note will be good as new. the usb port contains new mic.
If you are handy the note is a frendly phone to service.
There should be Youtube videos out there by now.
Last year in sommer i have a similar problemm with you. I have let my phone without batterie in my balconie in a shadow place for 2 days after that it works again. Outside temperatur was 30-40 C°. Give it i try if no one else have a better idee

myth..doesnt work... and for those who will disagree...please tell me how the rice cleans the corrosion that occurs when water hits the board when it is on..and i guarantee that happens.... all rice does is get dust in the ports... if it is not touching the liquid then it is not absorbing it any faster than it is already evaporating on its own... a fan will do 100 times better than rice... moving air=faster evaporation. then after its dry it needs to be cleaned and treated so the corrosion does not come back..
it needs to be cleaned and treated by a professional that knows what they are doing and has the right tools and chemicals...

The rice treatment is not a myth. When treated quick enough (same day, day after tops), the rice absorbs the moisture out of the device, and prevents corrosion from developing. Why does it work better than just leaving the device out in the open? the air around you has moisture, sticking it in rice creates a much dryer environment, so water dry up faster, and moisture get sucked out faster. A fan is moving air, but air with moisture in it. Unless you're in a desert. So, either rice or hair dryer on low heat setting and very carefully.
If it already has corrosion, nothing can really help.

is a MYTH and if you would like to argue im glad to in pm... as for the corrosion... if the phone was on when it got wet it has corrosion...100% guarantee so your whole point is moot... and again if the rice isnt touching the liquid it is not absorbing it hence it is evaporating at the same rate bottom line.... and since you want to try to debunk the fan...well the fan creates friction and the friction will promote faster evaporation whether the air has moisture or not... there is a difference between humidity and large areas of liquid... so again rice DOES NOT WORK... i work on these things for a living so i think i may know a thing or two about this...
im trying to help people save their phones so dont think im trying to stop diy... im just trying to show you a better way that actually works and is scientifically proven...
btw how long have you been working on phones??? just curious on your background... and please feel free to keep on using your rice.. even if your phone starts to work again... it wont be long till the corrosion catches up and your phone wont be working... your call because again i dont care what you do... im trying to help others that want help and good advice..not idiots that want to argue...
lastly if it has corrosion..i can make it work again.. i do it daily and make a nice living at it.. so i really dont think you should be giving advice on this since you say there is no hope if there is corrosion... sorry but it is what it is..

im sure it did... and i hope it makes you feel better believing that it did.... taking the battery out and letting it dry on its own would have done the same thing... either it didnt get anything wet that was electrical or it is just a matter of time before the corrosion catches up...
again just trying to help and again if you want to argue pm me...
The rice thing does work, although people misunderstand its purpose... It won't do a thing if your phone was damaged. It simply helps to take the water out of phone's chassis etc. - if it already touched the board and damaged the circuits, it won't do anything. Anyway, best to use silica-gel or at least salt crystals as they work ten times more effectively.

again it does not help... IF THE PHONE WAS ON WHEN IT GOT WET, IT GOT DAMAGED SOMEHOW..THERE WILL BE CORROSION SOMEWHERE... I GUARANTEE IT... if the rice is not touching the liquid then it is not absorbing it... unless you take the whole phone apart and i mean the heat shields and all and then immerse the phone in the rice it is not absorbing... and if you went to all of that trouble then rice is not necessary...
this is to all others who doubt my reasoning... please tell your # of years experience working on phones and your training....
again im not trying to argue im trying to help you save your phones when they get wet and for them to still be working a year or so later...
i prove it daily when customers bring in their phones to my shop in bags of rice that have been in there for weeks and still nothing... i do my method and they work... proof enough for me and my customers...

Have you even read my post, or just the first sentence ? It doesn't matter if the phone was ON or OFF. If water got through the case and touched the board while the battery was in - it's most likely fried, and even a ton of rice won't help.
If water never touched the board and got only on the case, or between the case, then it might help - not fix the phone, simply absorb the water from the case, so it won't pour on the board.
Anyway, it doesn't matter. Don't put it in rice... putting it in rice is the method for people who don't want to take their phone apart - but know what ? If you wet your phone, your warranty is void anyway, believe me - service will know what happened. Just take your phone apart as soon as possible, let it dry, and pray that water didn't reach the internals...
You probably want to wash the device's internal with really strong alcohol....the salt in the sea water is not good for the device....
I just don't get why the hell are people arguing over this? I don't care if it's a myth or not, if it works for you then good, if not, go find some other way around. Putting each other down won't change anything, neither the facts nor the opinions. Relax guys!?

Hi fellow xda-ers,
I smashed my N4's back door yesterday, in a very eccentric way.
I was riding my race bike really fast, when I noticed something awkward in the balance of the bike, it felt kind of loose.
Cycling on a cobbled street, I didn't think more of it. Suddenly the rear wheel just hopped off, and stuck itself in the frame.
As I was pedaling standing, i was projected forward and almost fell. The upper part of my thighs struck the handlebar or the stem so hard, that it totally crushed my barely 2 months old N4.
Now, the back door is totally destroyed. It wouldn't be so much of a big deal if there wasn't dead pixel cloud on the screen...
The touchscreen is however fully working, tchecked it under developper options.
I am now wondering what to do. Either repair the back, get over the dead pixel problem and cross finger hoping nothing else has been damaged. Or repair the back, RMA the phone arguing about the drop connection problems (which I truely have been facing) and hope a new one comes. One last solution, which truely repels me, would be to repair the back, sell the phone and get a new one.
My question is, would a tiny grey cloud on the screen and a different backplate be noticed, if I RMA the phone ?
The spot is almost only visible on grey & white.
Please kindly spare me with the moral issues it raises. I am a student, I waited several months to get this phone and broke it out of bad luck, not even mishandling it. Plus the phone had dropouts problems ...
Thanks for your advice.

[ EDIT : I had started an RMA for connection dropouts before breaking the phone ]
ps : As english is not my native language, is it correct to say "pedaling standing" ? Looks ok, but is it the proper way of saying it ?
Sorry for the sht*y quality of pictures, I don't have any other camera than my computer's webcam. In reality grey dots are more visible.

If you had bad luck, why is it the responsibility of Google to foot the bill of your bad luck? When did Google enter the business of insurance?
I understand that you're a student, but think about the above. And if the phone truly had substantial drop-out problems, you would have replaced it a long time ago. Your choice to keep the phone suggests that the "problem" is not as dire as you're making it out to be. It's funny how the phone breaks, and suddenly your phone had a "problem" all along that you "lived with".
Repair the phone, sell it off if you want, and disclose that information to your buyer.
Couldn't you call up LG customer care and send it to them to fix it for a cost?

@PoisonWolf
I actually had started an RMA procedure for the network problems ...
@DarkSora
A backplate is an ok cost. Backplate + Display is definitely not worth it...
So you don't think they would notice the damage to the phone once they get it back and not charge you?
The accident is through no fault of Google so they wont repair it for free. Even though you started the RMA procedure, they wont accept a damaged phone like that when you send it them. Most likely the hold they put on your card will actually be what you end up paying.
Under no circumstances should you sell the phone unless you tell the person what happened to it and sell it as-is without trying to fix it yourself. Some people are into fixing phones. Sending it to Google under the assumption that you are trying to fix a different problem so you can get a new phone is just plain dishonest. Karma is real and doesn't let people get away with dishonest actions for very long.

If you can live with the screen issue, fixing the back is a simple $10 thing. Go buy a DBrand skin http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2095261 they will stick to broken screens and now you can't tell. No fancy pattern but you lost that anyway now. They are pretty thick and the black leather I have feels nice.
I keep thinking about bringing my N4 with mne when I ride but avoid it for this reason. I have hit my thigh on many things, I would rather pop out the SIM and use my HTC desire, but I generaly just ride without a phone or use the Desire as an MP3 player.
@ Rizy & Kzoodroid
Read ! I don't plan on sending it back without having the back repaired. Just repair the back and keep on with my initial RMA procedure, that I had started BEFORE I broke the phone.
It's quite unsure wether they will notice the dark spot on the screen, and that is the thing I was wondering about.

Yes, that's why I said it repeled me.

Thanks ! It's a great solution, but it implies buying a new back cover, and get over the screen's dark spot, also implies keep on having dropouts problems.

No one on here knows what Google is going to do even if you repair the phone. Its all just speculation as to what their process is for inspecting RMA'd devices. I believe the back glass runs around $100 and not sure if its an exact copy of the original or not. But if you repairs look original I say RMA it.
