Hi, i want to compare the performance, advantages of cyanogenmod vs sony official firmware 4.0.1.A.0.283. Sony take note to improve the system in the next updates!
1ºThe gallery:
With the las firmware 4.0.1.A.0.283 the gallery is very slow, and opening a photo takes about 4-5 seconds with a class 10 SD card.
With cyanogenmod the photos instantly open. Even my girlfriend mini pro (SK17i) is faster than my arc opening photos.
2ºQuality of sound in calls:
I have reported in othet threads, problems with the sound with the phone in 2G mode only. I have noticed breaks in sound and clicks during a call.
With Cyanogen the problem is not present. Please sony fix it in the official firmware!
File with a recording of the problem: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FC0C7EEG
In the recording you can listen 6 tones, the 3 last are distorted, this also occurs during the conversation with the voice.
3ºOptions:
In cyanogenmod 7.1 there are profiles for the sound (yes like in all the old sony ericsson phones).
Why don´t sony implement this?
4ºBattery:
With the official firmware the min CPU freq is set to 245 Mhz, with cyanogen is 122 Mhz. This means lower battery consumption at iddle state.
5ºApps still open even you have closed it before.
Not with cyanogenmod
6ºThe sound recorder
It comes with android by default, but there is no shortcut in our arc! and can´t use it!
7ºMusic player in the lockscreen
8ºCamera options
Posibility to select the quality of the photo.

Does anyone really select anything but the highest quality?
CM7.1 much smoother than SE stock... but CM7 won't have the SE features like xLOUD, bravia engine etc... but well you can't have everything in the world...

Lol I second that
On topic, SonyEricsson are already supporting CM team so my guess is SonyEricsson are trying to take notes and improve their Software

Seems like you dont know that Sony's rom hardly gives a 1MB pic while in cyanogen it aroun 2~3 MB
The problems i want SE to fix are
A.) Camera image size (i hate cyanogen ui) and some options too like contrast, sharpness etc
B.) Option to disble light sensor and have fixed brightness
C.) Status bar widgets
D.) Locscreen and volume button music controls
E.) Swipe to remove notifications
F.) Options to change camera settings while recording video ( like flash off, exposure etc)
G.) Option to pickup calls using Back button and hanging up by menu button
H.) Others i forgot

Does it mean that CM7.1 is way better than the current stock ROM? It would also be nice if you guys can post some advantages of the stock rom over CM7.
Is it possible to use app2sd in cyanogenMod?

Maybe someone make possibilities, to record calls from line.

I prefer stock user interface otherwise I would go over to cm straight away. In cm everyuthing is just plain and black and the home launcher is rubbish. I like the stock one.
Advantages of stock rom...!!!
1. Better keyboard...!!!
2. Better looks...!!!
3. Supports many languages...!!!
4. Supports Devnagri fonts(personal requirement)...!!!
5. Facebook notification on the screen...!!!
6. Has timescape that notifies everyone reading your status that you have an Xperia...!!!

Things I miss from Stock ROM
1. Launcher (Silky smooth)
But I got it from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=973245
But it is not latest launcher. Can someone provide latest launcher please ??
2. Camera application.
3. Bravia Engine and xLoud
4. Music Player.
Things better in cyanogenmod :
1. Performance ( Overclocked to 1.5 GHz by default)
2. Themes
3. Apps can be moved to SD card even if not allowed
4. Latest android 2.3.7
please put BE to cm7...

i don't think they can ever port the proprietary software unless SE tells them to, which will never happen.

Bravia Engine, Camera app, HDMI, xLoud, slide keyboard, in the other hand its a heavy ROM, and resources like GPU, CPU and RAM are not well used, some lags on launcher, slow system some times, etc... I personally prefer pure android feel and experience allied with a very light responsive and no bloatware than a rom customized by brands... For me its like windows, no one wants ASUS programs or HP programs in their brand new computer, I brought an android device, so I want to experience android as close as possible from its pattern...

I totally agree, the stock .368 is amazingly smooth, bugless and stable. Three parameters I prioritise very high, a fast reliably phone that just works and looks good at the same time
I have installed doomkernel, but the increased performance from overclocking is only to me really noticeable when browsing heavy web pages. Everything runs smooth at 1GHz comparing it to 1.6GHz.
Have to say I would miss things like Bravia engine and the camera app so I will be holding off on upgrading to CM7.1 for now. I've rooted with locked bootloader, given it a clean up and I'm happy. Might install Doomkernel though and overclock very soon.
it is CM wins~~~once you choice CM's rom, you are not interesting in any other rom, include SE's
cm 7.1 is fast but i have issues with camera flash synch... =( it's not flashing when it needs so the picture taken is all black ... does anybody know solution about this problem ?

It's not correct to generalize that all people would not want ASUS, HP programs in their new laptops
Not everyone is like you, many prefer brand customized ROM, that's what makes a difference between devices
I would say it's 50/50 some prefer stock and others want pure vanilla

New development by Galnet for I9100. Please note: This is NOT ICS porting , just ICS framework. All apk in it are NOT from ICS release.. only framework!
Loaded and will report how it tests. Installed without any issues at all, using CWM with full wipe coming from AndroidMIUI 1.11.4.
Areas of concern:
1. No service bug - changelog suggest it is resolved.
2. Battery life.
(not reporting problems, just stating what will be tested).
I started this thread as I have seen it on the AT&T forum, but actually it can be installed on the SGS2 I9100 and I did not see any thread about it on the SGS2 section.
Many thanks for the developers. Really appreciate their work, and I hope I do not violate any 'rules' publishing the link ..
Edit: 15 hours with original Kernel -
1. Battery life: Decent 4%/hr in moderate usage without Juice defender. 1% loss over night with phone idle.
2. BT - Nothing wrong with it. Paired few headsets, and a car BT easily, and steady. See edit 2 for a potential bug with non original kernel.
3. Reception - better than ever. with KI4 modem calls are clear (better than before) , Wi-Fi sensitivity is greater.
4. See edit 2
5. Browser: Works great with Opera mobile. Never liked any other one.
6. themes, skins, wallpaper: Supports all on-line (downloadable) ones from MIUI.
7. Update (KIES like) - works.
8. Undervoltage/overclock (setCPU) - not supported by original Kernel - untested.
9. Siyah 2.1.1 testing - What for ? happy with original.
Edit 2:
BUG REPORT:
1. Siyah kernel ver 2.2 works great with 1.11.9
2. Have some sleep of death issues with 2.11.26 combined with Siyah kernel 2.2 and setCPU . No UV involved to make it happen. Back to 1.11.9
2. Rebooting into recovery with charger connected (not PC) will guaranty NO SERVICE coming back (at least on my device).

This ROM is build on the ICS framework but the user interface is MI
so it looks like any other MIUI ROM.
what kernal are you using for this. I am currently using the cognition mod v1.5.1 with ninphetamine 2.1.3. wondering what i need to change before i flash to this and is there any bugs.
working like a charm! coming from miui 1.11.4, without wipe. Only cache and dalvik wiped.. TY!
How this be running ICS when we can't even get a stock ICS for the S2?
As the 3rd post states, it uses the ics framework. It is not a full ics rom.

Its a MIUI ROM, not AOSP or Samsung, so either you keep the original kernel that comes with the ROM (what i am doing right now), or you go with the few CM7 supported ones, like Siyah 2.1.1 or similiar. The ROM you are on right now is not MIUI, which is a complete different animal. Please read about it, before you jump into it. Some are going to hate the MIUI approach, looks and feel, but i am personally in love with their development, and world wide support .. They simply took Google's android and open source one step further (just my humble opinion) and came out with a ~100Mbyte image that has EVERYTHING ones needs in a OS.. and more..
1.11.7 + Siyah Kernel v2.2beta4
Everything's pretty smooth. Even the battery life seems decent for now. Testing needed, of course.
Can anyone link an RTL fix for this one please

I have a question. I really want to put this on my phone. I currently have Lightning rom and ninphetmine kernel on here. How do I install the rom? Donwload it onto SD. Do a nandroid backup and titanium backup? What do I wipe? Thanks!
For the people testing it, please let us know if the battery life is improved and if the headphone volume bug is gone.
Also can I just flash this over my own version of MIUI without wipe?
Thanks.

The battery life is ok at 50% with 2 hrs display time and 1 hour of calling, half an hour of music and radio.
Headphone volume was never a problem, I use the audioboostsgs2 app which kinda gives me decent performance.

Hello,
I am no dev, or even close to it. I just want to share rom that is available on other sites. I will not help you in fixing problems or dealing with install procedure faults. So please be careful make backups and consult with other mates in this forum.
I was just about to go to GB and before that wanted to try this one (this means you need to be on ICS baseband). I found it on 4pda forum.
If I understand correct this is Pika's created ROM (FrozenPika 4.0.4) modified by colleagues in China forums.
Kernel is from Genoklar
I read several good responses so thought it is worth a try.
So far I can say it is really smooth. Games are working not bad.
Probably overall it is slightly better than ICS DROID v1 by gkalenis.
Gapps not included you will need gapps that are for ICS
Default CPU frequency is 1200mhz. no app to control cpu pre-installed.
Since I don't like User Interface it was possible to correct it by changing SystemUI.apk (rename it to SystemUI.apk with right permissions) in the system folder this helped a little.
Next thing that also was needed to change is camera app (rename it to HWCamera.apk with right permissions) because delivered one has some problems with video recording (few comments about it from 4pda forum).
So far bugs I noticed:
Kernel related - camera takes photos with 8pixels stripe bug on the left side.
Flashlight quickpanel button works with very low response time.
Press me to download ROM
Please do not use any task killers or swapers, memory managers because in this rom new method is used to control memory load
Credits goes to:
Pikachukaki (for his major efforts for our phone)
Genoklar (for kernel and other stuff)
vitasik87 (for uploading ROM to 4PDA and providing better SystemUI)
telepuzik.2011 (for uploading HWcamera.apk on 4PDA)

Pretty laggy game for our device on most ROMs. With the FPS unlock script it should work even better.
tested, unstable ROM, when play game Real Racing 3 (clean full install) i have reboots, game sometimes freezing and phone rebooting, GPS unstable loosing signal sometimes (with another ROM's all ok), sound not very clean in games or play music, on low volume - bad, sound quality 7/10 in call sound ok 9/10

For my daily usage the only thing I see as not good is battery draining with 3g data on.
Otherwise I dont get reboots or any instability. It sometimes hard to believe how much different ROM behaves for different people. That only gives understanding that ROMs are not able to handle different people usage requirements.
I am on this rom third day already and I like it. But still thoughts of getting to GB are very common. probably few more days and when I have time Stallion ICS will come to action
By the way FM radio works perfect

Dear XDA developers, modders and users i am curious to know do you like more performance and stability of android 2.3 and older or looks and apps of android 4.0 and newer.
I prefer GB roms because for everyday use ICS/GB roms destroy my already weak battery, are slow and unstable imo , also when i download a rom i remove stuff i dont need and add stuff i do.
I edit roms but never publish them as my original work
Check how fast is it these two roms with 50+ user apps. Htc wildfire still good to go.
Check out my htc vdo shots below:

CM7 Nightly Rom
I also froze a few system apps, what do u add and remove, can you plz make a vdo sneak peak.

Well i havent got time for making videos now ,but if you are interested in my roms then i do the following:
* depending on the rom size and features
- gallery
- fm radio
- latinIME
- tts and picotts
- some fonts
- alarms, notifications and ringtones
- gapps if available
- cwm ( i used revolutionary so cwm is not necessary
- cmwallpapers
- bootanimation.zip
+ file manager
+ quickpic
+ keyboard ( using hackers keyboard in this moment )
+ beats sometimes
+ custom ringtones and notifications
+ sometimes i edit the framework-res
conclusion - nothing complicated but by removing apps, fonts , boot animation i shave off +- 20mb of rom size and speed up boot to around 35-40 seconds
and in my barebones rom (cm7 based) i have removed all apps that are safe to remove except :
-music
-camera
-mms
-[App that ive possibly forgot to mention]
and in total my barebones rom has 50mb which i use when i fck up something ( my ubuntu didnt recognize android 4.0 as a usb drive so i couldnt change the rom ; when stuck in bootloop ) because it installs faster and its a good alternative as a rom to give to my younger sister
Because its faster i also change the default wallpaper in roms that i download
Curently i use TouchWiz with sympfinity kernel V4.5 its fast and battery efficient ( and FABULOUS )
P.S. yes wildfire is still good to go but development in xda is ceasing and it has no gpu. Technology is becoming better every day so i will update in the near future but wildfire is a legend and should not be forgotten
Well we still got some people doing good work, have you tried the AOKP light continued by wasimk32 ? I run it smooth and fine with smartass and preety much 5 hungry apps installed other than gapps; I'm only using it for about 5 days now but i did not feel the need to run supercharger, wich is more than i can say for latest gingerbread stock cm considering aokp is ics based.
Also if you want looks+even better performance you can give JellyBread a try made by wasimk32 aswell, i installed it and when i saw my willy fly troughout the apps and menus like a galaxy S2 i almost teared up a bit xD.
Bottom line: I think we can get probably another decent year where we can say willy kept up before we start using it for only its phone-text functions .

Commotio vs Vanir is basically scripts and theme. I prefer some different scripts. And makes telling Nuke's and my nightlies apart much easier.

It was probably a bad flash, however I like this! Works with Xposed perfectly. Just a few tweaks around the settings and this will be my daily driver as long it keeps updating and till the One Plus One is out
I have been testing this Rom for the last three days and it is really good The latest nightly is a little messed up as the corresponding cyanogenmod so it is understandable. You should open a threat over at oppo's forums, the find 5 community is very active there and you would get a lot of love for this Rom thanks for your work

Yeah I have that issue. I'm on the May 18th version B66 or something.
