New development by Galnet for I9100. Please note: This is NOT ICS porting , just ICS framework. All apk in it are NOT from ICS release.. only framework!
Loaded and will report how it tests. Installed without any issues at all, using CWM with full wipe coming from AndroidMIUI 1.11.4.
Areas of concern:
1. No service bug - changelog suggest it is resolved.
2. Battery life.
(not reporting problems, just stating what will be tested).
I started this thread as I have seen it on the AT&T forum, but actually it can be installed on the SGS2 I9100 and I did not see any thread about it on the SGS2 section.
Many thanks for the developers. Really appreciate their work, and I hope I do not violate any 'rules' publishing the link ..
Edit: 15 hours with original Kernel -
1. Battery life: Decent 4%/hr in moderate usage without Juice defender. 1% loss over night with phone idle.
2. BT - Nothing wrong with it. Paired few headsets, and a car BT easily, and steady. See edit 2 for a potential bug with non original kernel.
3. Reception - better than ever. with KI4 modem calls are clear (better than before) , Wi-Fi sensitivity is greater.
4. See edit 2
5. Browser: Works great with Opera mobile. Never liked any other one.
6. themes, skins, wallpaper: Supports all on-line (downloadable) ones from MIUI.
7. Update (KIES like) - works.
8. Undervoltage/overclock (setCPU) - not supported by original Kernel - untested.
9. Siyah 2.1.1 testing - What for ? happy with original.
Edit 2:
BUG REPORT:
1. Siyah kernel ver 2.2 works great with 1.11.9
2. Have some sleep of death issues with 2.11.26 combined with Siyah kernel 2.2 and setCPU . No UV involved to make it happen. Back to 1.11.9
2. Rebooting into recovery with charger connected (not PC) will guaranty NO SERVICE coming back (at least on my device).

This ROM is build on the ICS framework but the user interface is MI
so it looks like any other MIUI ROM.
what kernal are you using for this. I am currently using the cognition mod v1.5.1 with ninphetamine 2.1.3. wondering what i need to change before i flash to this and is there any bugs.
working like a charm! coming from miui 1.11.4, without wipe. Only cache and dalvik wiped.. TY!
How this be running ICS when we can't even get a stock ICS for the S2?
As the 3rd post states, it uses the ics framework. It is not a full ics rom.

Its a MIUI ROM, not AOSP or Samsung, so either you keep the original kernel that comes with the ROM (what i am doing right now), or you go with the few CM7 supported ones, like Siyah 2.1.1 or similiar. The ROM you are on right now is not MIUI, which is a complete different animal. Please read about it, before you jump into it. Some are going to hate the MIUI approach, looks and feel, but i am personally in love with their development, and world wide support .. They simply took Google's android and open source one step further (just my humble opinion) and came out with a ~100Mbyte image that has EVERYTHING ones needs in a OS.. and more..
1.11.7 + Siyah Kernel v2.2beta4
Everything's pretty smooth. Even the battery life seems decent for now. Testing needed, of course.
Can anyone link an RTL fix for this one please

I have a question. I really want to put this on my phone. I currently have Lightning rom and ninphetmine kernel on here. How do I install the rom? Donwload it onto SD. Do a nandroid backup and titanium backup? What do I wipe? Thanks!
For the people testing it, please let us know if the battery life is improved and if the headphone volume bug is gone.
Also can I just flash this over my own version of MIUI without wipe?
Thanks.

sorry I am just confused but from what i understand is that this rom comes with its own kernel and if i flash it onto my phone it will replace my current kernel and rom right.
i noticed that the new gallery is bugged. You can not scroll to the right side...

The battery life is ok at 50% with 2 hrs display time and 1 hour of calling, half an hour of music and radio.
Headphone volume was never a problem, I use the audioboostsgs2 app which kinda gives me decent performance.

Hello all,
Today i installed the CM-9 ROM by ErwinP on my 1 year old Wildfire.
Its good with some issues:
1. Camera doesn't work.
2. gallery has a bug. The albums were visible when we tap and hold on the screen and drag to left or right. when we lift the finger the screen goes blank.
3. menu loading is slow every time.
4. screen lock is present but you have to select slide in the lock screen settings.
For any further issues, i'll update here, as I am new to this forum.
Some facts:
The ROM after install takes 151.8 MB of internal memory.
I have custom MTD partition of 160MB and 15MB cache. I'm getting 290 of internal memory but the system initially is taking 40 MB(I don't know why.)
So, usable is 250MB internal memory.

first two issues you pointed are already given issues. read op to check common issues present as well as replacement app particularly for gallery and some other stuff.
other than that i think i dont have any issues like the other things you mentioned.
try 210/25 custom mtd partitions...it worked for me
@pauch_19: thanks for the information. I will look into alternatives to the bugs. Also you can try my custom MTD settings if you want more internal memory. Can you help me in getting the Market app to work(or any alternative app).

Did you flash Google apps first? Or just install 3.4.4 apk?
You need to flash gapps I think, don't bother with 3.4.4 you should get an auto update to the new play one eventually.

Yeah, you'll need the entire gapps since the market also relies on some extra stuff.
(I had the same problem when I just installed the market .apk on my Elf.)

that's probably the reason why you have more space on your internal memory because you forgot to flash gapps. incase you havent, flash gapps as what scratch and nejc suggested.. its also posted in op. its the latest gapps, about 52 mb in size so you will have to set your mtd partitions to default which is 250. im using the modified version which is just about 19 mb.
goodluck!
First of all thanks to all(Scratch0805,pauch_19 and nejc121) for your support in providing the information.
After getting the solution suggested by "Scratch0805". I again installed the ROM and along with the gapps at the same time. This time, I have taken the partition as 200 and 20. And after the boot, in terminal i found that system is using 186.4 MB. Still 13.6MB left.
Note: i installed the gapps with the size 51.88MB unmodified zip.
Now, everything works as it should have with camera as the exception.
One thing I want to know, what should be the CPU settings to follow for more than a day of battery life. Previously, i was using ON-DEMAND with 264-672MHz
and getting less than 22hrs of backup in CM7.

mine is 352/729 smartassv2. on minimal - regular use, mine last a day and a half..i really think it depends on phone usage.
@pauch_19 : So, it means you are not using any apps to control the cpu settings.
I also used the smartassv2 governor and i found that backup decreases as it was in on-demand.
But, the smoothness in using gets better in smartassv2. So, can you tell me which governor will be better in terms of battery life and speed or any post where its mentioned.
atm i dont have too many apps which is also i think one reason why my phone is alot smoother, responsive and gives me a very decent battery life. In performance - processor, my cpu frequency minimum is 352 and 729 max. i used this values even when i was on cm7 nightlies coz its much stable..havent tried it at 768 though cpu governor is smartass v2.

I'm using the miui rom which is basically a modified version of cm9, I use setcpu just to set an underclock profile for when the screen goes off. My settings are on demand176/576 and powersave 176/352 as I've noticed that unless i'm straining the cpu by playing angry birds or watching a video with on demand my cpu tends to stay low doing normal things like making a phone call or checking xda but with smartassv2 it seems to jump high even when it doesn't really need to.
Sent from my Wildfire using xda premium
@pauch_19 : As for your settings goes, it good for performance. And you are also getting good life out of it. Nice to know that. I also read a post earlier where members are saying CM7 is better than SplashMOD. If its true, kindly tell me If you know which CM7 nightlies version do i use and how to remove the apps(I once used CM7 # 256,I didn't like the camera UI but it was smooth though) I then, switched to SplashMOD 1.6.
@Scratch0805 : I like the CPU settings you were using. I will definitely try those when I'll install the SPlashMOD v2.0 downloaded yesterday. But, I haven't tried on 176 because i thought then I'll get delay in getting calls and also lag in the background process. If these are not the issues you are getting, then I will must use these, and I can say that I will get at least 35+hrs of backup. And how MIUI is as compared to CM9?
thanks again for the responses I'm getting.
Somewhere in themes and apps section is a thread for miui camera, its a flashable zip which will give you a much nicer camera ui than the cm7 one.
Miui is beautiful as a standalone Rom but gets even better if your prepared to put some effort in, it has the same bugs as cm9, but spend a few hours setting up workarounds and it runs like a dream, I only have 2 problems now 1 is the camera (nevermind tho, I have a digital cam anyway) 2 is if you like theming your phone miui is awesome for it, the only problem is it was designed for hdpi and gingerbread so all the top themes need modding to fit ldpi and ics.

@Scratch0805 : I don't have any knowledge of modding. But I will definitely try MIUI ROM and can you tell me which CM7 version you are using, just asking if I may try that one anytime soon along with the miui camera.

Personally I haven't tried Splashmod so I really couldnt say CM7 is better. I only tried CM7 and Im really impressed at how Cyanogen turned it into a very nice and fast rom. Before trying erwin's CM9 I was on nightly 256 build 14 and everything is working well.
I will try that one also with the miui camera Scratch0805 suggested. If all goes well, at the end of the day I'll be using CM7.
The camera should be fine on any rom I think, splashmod is basically either cm7 or oxygen (can't remember which one its based on atm as the "dev" changes his mind more often than I change my wallpaper ) with some apps removed or substituted for another. Underneath though it will always be cm7 or oxygen.
I'm on miui v4 atm and loving it but I'd recommend till you get into the swing either cm7 nightly 256 or keep an eye on the cm7 thread and look for the unofficial builds which have been built by erwinp and cobje, they may have a few bugs though I doubt anything serious otherwise they wouldn't release it + we are still clinging on to some fairly talented people that will most likely suss out the bugs and let everyone know how to fix them in the thread.

Well CM9 is really great, i love it, but sometimes my phone randomly reboot. Especially when i start phone.apk. Anybody with the same problem? I'm running on 352-710 MHz.
Also my GPS doesn't work.
last time i tried a ICS or jellybean rom was about 5 or 6 months ago, they all looked promising but all had little quirks like gps problems , camera not great quality, audio etc etc, bluetooth. this kinda put me off them as i need my phones features to work.
Just wondering if any of the latest roms have managed to iron out these problems ? EG gps is important to me and works well in ARHD.
Id love to try the latest jellybean release but kinda worried ill start finding bugs again once i start using it.

Would like to try something other than sense based, tried sabsa for a while but didnt really get on with it, found ARHD faster and less laggy after a few days.
codefireX. There are a few small bugs but everything important works perfectly. You can try the CM10.1 nightlies too, but any bugs in those will depend on the CM team fixing them. The developer only builds from CM source and doesn't focus on bug fixes because his priority is codefireX.

Yes, it works very well. I get a quick lock with 8-11 satellites. Only problem for me is my GPS antenna cover which has become loose and I need to fix. Many people have this problem with the DHD/I4G. The ROM has no problem with GPS.

try Jelly Time rom it's stable
2 days ago I installed PACman v19.3. It's a JB rom, clean, fast interface (Trebuchet launcher), many settings to customize your device (overclocking CPU included). The only thing I had to install to get it fully working was KangBang kernel v2.4 to get my WiFi working.
So far, I'm really pleased with this rom, it runs much faster and smoother than Sense based roms and you have more RAM available for aplications (I'm always on around 250-350 mb free in RAM).
I've been using JellyTime for months and had no issues with it, now its moved onto 4.2 I think its amazing. I'm a heavy web and navigation user with Bluetooth and not had any major issues.

I sincerely recommend ViperDHD v2.1.1 I had the best ROM on your Desire HD everything works. Read the section of the ROMs. S all works.
ViperDHD might be a good choice if you want to simulate One X. But performance and quality wise (undersized rosie aka one x screen emulation, some poorly resized icons), its not so good when compared to other Sense4 ROMS.

I really recommend taking a look at sci miui by a user. Been running it for about 2 weeks and its the smoothest rom I've ran, granted its based on gingerbread but If you want reliability you won't get much better

I have been waiting for a stable JB ROM for a long time as well, but was continuously following the development and reviews of most of the ROMs.
Last week I've decided that it is time to try a JB ROM, because most of them reports very few or none issues.
I've installed JellyTime 6.1, and I have to say I'm extremely satisfied. It is rock stable, camera works perfectly, excellent audio quality, GPS had a little problem which was resolved by updating to the latest RADIO, and everything else just works great.
So the new Android 4.2 features were definitely worth the upgrade.
Like -SmOgER said, ViperDHD is a good ROM but has some laggs which get worse over time (just for me; may different for others).
I recommend using Sabsa Prime. Please try V12 first because it's Sense 4 Lite and quite fast. The current V13 is quite laggy but smoother than ViperDHD.
May you want to try Sabsa Prime V14 which will be uploaded in the minute I'm writing this.
If you want a Sense-Free Rom I' recommend this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2093845
Lags are not really a problem if you use supercharger from zeppelinrox and set the engine flush script on a scheduler to run from time to time.
Is there "developer options" in JellyTime 4.2?
I cannot find it in system settings.
Thanks.

Have you selected all performance mods in aroma? Try setting backgr process limit to 4 as well. For me, there is almost no lag at all. It's at least as fast as v12, if not faster

Hello,
I may sound like a noob, but thats only because i didn't play with these roms much so far... so, yes, i am a noob
I managed to upgrade my U8800pro to 4.03 official thanks to some of you.
Now i am looking through the forum and many threads and many many custom roms, but i cant decide which one to go with since all seem to have problems...
So the question is: which rom is the most stable+fastest for U8800pro? It would be also nice if normal features (calls sound ok, network works ok, "notification drawer", gmail, youtube, play store, gps, wifi, tethering (wifi, usb), music playback, if possible radio, if not also ok) are also present and working. I really hope there is such rom out there. I dont mind if it is based on 2.x or 4.x (ok, i prefer 4.x, but if some 2.x is better, i will go with that), as long as it works well.
I also have U8800 and there it is easy choice. Go with Aurora, and everything (well, almost everything) works as intended. I also looked for Aurora mod for U8800pro but the best i could find is a mod for Aurora 4.x, while there is already Aurora 5.x out there.
I will post instructions for upgrading 2.2 to 2.3 to 4.03 later on, since i had problems upgrading myself for future noobs to use.
And thanks in advance

Stock Gingerbread
best ROM
nothing can beat it..
ALL custom ROMs for U8800PRO have one thing or the other that'll leave you unsatisfied..
Stock ICS is bad for gaming.
all JB 4.1 have only secondary mic (the one beside the camera) working.. plus, camera doesn't work properly except in stock/pre-installed camera app.
all JB 4.2 have buggy/broken bluetooth
If you don't play heavy games (even Subway Surfers is HEAVY for this phone ).. then you can stick to official ICS.. just unlock FPS (that "install-recovery.sh" thing) and all Temple Runs will be fine.

I'll have to disagree!
Rittik's CM10 ROM is probably the best choice. It's really fast, no lag, and with RAM Manager Pro and History wiping (long press home button), there is absolutely no problem (provided you disable apps to run at startup with Autostart).
Gaming is as smooth as stock GB, except for the games that are ridiculously heavy.
I hope I helped =)

I disagree with both of you. Our friend needs a stable ROM. So I suggest him to try Gingerbread(2.x.x) custom ROMs like THE STALLION ICS look, CyanogenMod 7.2 and MIUI. Everything works like a charm, no reboots, good RAM managment, a lot of extras(the last two ROMs) and no battery drain.
You can downgrade to Gingerbread by flashing step 2 from an official GB ROM.

What about wrong messages in systemUI ?? example- "Screen timeout set to 15 years"! ... "Screen timeout set to 5 weeks"!
"SDcard is damaged or has unsupported format"

What about disturbance in calls? You can hear your fingers moving on the phone's back! bcoz main mic isn't working at all!

The Stallion ICS look has no SRS WOW HD.. no DSP Manager too.
CM7.2 is buggy.. buttons backlight.. and proximity sensor.. Also, Awesome Beats™ does not work on GingerBread.. Beats™ is the only thing that can beat SRS WOW HD... CM7.2's DSP Manager is "just okay"...
Kalo is not themable.

Are you saying you prefer official GingerBread than CM7 or MIUI for example?

i have flashed almost all of the roms available for more than a week each (time required to actually see if there are any hidden bugs)
The roms with the least bugs are Kalo and stallion ics.All the others have important issues (for me) thats the reason i didnt stick with them.In general:All ics roms are heavy and laggy, not for games ofcource. All "jb" roms have very serious issues such as awful memory management and awful incall sound, the phone's most important function, broken bluetooths, broken gps, broken wifi, and a lot of smaller bugs.
All miuis have issues, mainly low memory because of the heavy ui.
Cms are almost ok but not quite there.
I didnt want to return to gingerbread after all these beautiful roms but they are just that, beautiful on the outside ugly on the inside!
we have to focus on gb roms, they are the most complete unfortunately, unless a real dev shows up and work on sources

Aurora ics 4.1 with fixed "white screen" is the best rom I think. But it is my IMHO.

What about wrong messages in systemUI ?? example- "Screen timeout set to 15 years"! ... "Screen timeout set to 5 weeks"!
"SDcard is damaged or has unsupported format"
"4G WiFi icon" instead of "USB icon"!
"No signal icon" instead of "GPS icon"..
What about disturbance in calls? You can hear your fingers moving on the phone's back! bcoz main mic isn't working at all!

I never encountered such bugs except the oversensitive mic. But that can be fixed, can't it?

that's true, that's why they are so fast. But i can add some of the missing features with apps.On the other hand i can't fix memory leaks and incall sound with an app or play heavy games..I could use chainfire 3d for boosting performance for games, but guess what,it doesn't work with jb!

yeap,they are all there..!
My favorite ROM still remains CM7.2 modified by bronxitas with forumber kernel. The ROM isn't really on XDA as far as I know but it's based on the Moihack release most likely.

I didn't expect you would say that. I don't think anyone will agree with you.
Stock ROMs lag a lot, have locked fps, are unrooted, less features...
korekore I think you 've tried the MIUI I'm on with right now.
It's fast, it has a lot of useful features, it has the most free memory I ever encountered and minimum battery drain(all night 1-2% loss).
B U T I have installed only 51 applications like every ROM I used in the past. I mention that because you said that problems start to appear after a big number of installed apps(>100).
I think this ROM siuts me better than anyone other and it was a pleasant surprise for me.
I think I gonna stick with it.
Everyone has his own priorities and his own criteria.

I wasn't a MIUI fan but I love this ROM.
I like the feature you can access notification bar from any application even in full screen.

It supports another file. I don't remember the name(something like 99unlock).
Even though I prefer MIUI or CM7 or Kalo's ROM. That's my opinion.

Dear XDA developers, modders and users i am curious to know do you like more performance and stability of android 2.3 and older or looks and apps of android 4.0 and newer.
I prefer GB roms because for everyday use ICS/GB roms destroy my already weak battery, are slow and unstable imo , also when i download a rom i remove stuff i dont need and add stuff i do.
I edit roms but never publish them as my original work
Check how fast is it these two roms with 50+ user apps. Htc wildfire still good to go.
Check out my htc vdo shots below:
miniCM7 rom
CM7 Nightly Rom
I also froze a few system apps, what do u add and remove, can you plz make a vdo sneak peak.
My vote is for Performance.
Thanks

Well i havent got time for making videos now ,but if you are interested in my roms then i do the following:
* depending on the rom size and features
- gallery
- fm radio
- latinIME
- tts and picotts
- some fonts
- alarms, notifications and ringtones
- gapps if available
- cwm ( i used revolutionary so cwm is not necessary
- cmwallpapers
- bootanimation.zip
+ file manager
+ quickpic
+ keyboard ( using hackers keyboard in this moment )
+ beats sometimes
+ custom ringtones and notifications
+ sometimes i edit the framework-res
conclusion - nothing complicated but by removing apps, fonts , boot animation i shave off +- 20mb of rom size and speed up boot to around 35-40 seconds
and in my barebones rom (cm7 based) i have removed all apps that are safe to remove except :
-music
-camera
-mms
-[App that ive possibly forgot to mention]
and in total my barebones rom has 50mb which i use when i fck up something ( my ubuntu didnt recognize android 4.0 as a usb drive so i couldnt change the rom ; when stuck in bootloop ) because it installs faster and its a good alternative as a rom to give to my younger sister
Because its faster i also change the default wallpaper in roms that i download
Curently i use TouchWiz with sympfinity kernel V4.5 its fast and battery efficient ( and FABULOUS )
P.S. yes wildfire is still good to go but development in xda is ceasing and it has no gpu. Technology is becoming better every day so i will update in the near future but wildfire is a legend and should not be forgotten
Well we still got some people doing good work, have you tried the AOKP light continued by wasimk32 ? I run it smooth and fine with smartass and preety much 5 hungry apps installed other than gapps; I'm only using it for about 5 days now but i did not feel the need to run supercharger, wich is more than i can say for latest gingerbread stock cm considering aokp is ics based.
Also if you want looks+even better performance you can give JellyBread a try made by wasimk32 aswell, i installed it and when i saw my willy fly troughout the apps and menus like a galaxy S2 i almost teared up a bit xD.
Bottom line: I think we can get probably another decent year where we can say willy kept up before we start using it for only its phone-text functions .

this poll is no longer a poll its a discussion thread
When I still had my wildfire it was always performance for me. Cm7 was a godsend over that bloody stock Rom. But when it all came down to it as long as I had a fully working flashplayer I was happy
