I NEED to find the best ROM out there for the G2/Desire Z! let me know what you think it is!!
-Post what rom it is.. INCLUDING Build Number
-Explain why it is the best!
-Post a screenshot of your favorite screen i.e wallpaper..favorite widget etc..
If you could, let me know how good battery life is and stability!
-Looking for an everyday rom.. if possible
-Thanks!
I've tested several ROMs on my DZ and now I use Vision Unity.
It's basicly a 2.1/3.0 Sense hybrid ROM giving you real eye-candy.
In the latest version (1.29.0) I found some bugs/disadvantages:
- the homescreen does not rotate on keyboard open
- sometimes it lags a bit
- it takes about 300 MB ram after start, leaving you just about 70MB free (other roms are much better in this criteria)
- I experienced already few times sudden phone restart (phone just lying on table, no aggresive apps run like 3d games etc, and after few hours I take the phone and it asks for PIN) = pretty critical if you wait for an important call.
but among the roms I've tried, this seems far the best if you decide to have HTC Sense. If you can miss sense, stick to CM7, there are really cool features like finetuning the display auto brightness intensity levels (really killer feature to battery life!)
I enjoy Virtuous Sense 2.0.0 because I find it to be consistently fast and responsive, everything works for me all the time, and I still have enough ram to run a couple of apps in the background, unlike every sense 3.0 rom/hybrid I've tried.
Highly highly recommended.

LMFAO.
Cyanogen MOD 7 RC 1 or if your so inclined, nightly build #156.
- So far after testing a few ROM I've been back to CM7. Why? Once installed and running and even with keep all my favourite apps open and running in the background, I still manage to keep about 80mb of ram and CPU usage is usually between 2% and 82% with an average of 4 or 5 programs running. Ok a bit excessive I know but it still works.
I have custom memory script running that's available here on XDA and various other gadget. Battery life is usually fairly consistent with 1day 9hours of use. I use the device quite a bit in a day.
Power saving options: Brightness is set to 20% only, Juice Defender installed.
Running background application is limited to my email mostly unless I'm doing some work. Most of the time email, exchange, Facebook and twitter are sync.
I'm using Launcher Pro with the license for my main interface. Here are some screen captures for your pleasure.

Personally, my favorite ROM is MIUI.us
The stock Music app in it, is my favorite music app by far, I especially love how it not only gets the lyrics, but also scrolls them karaoke style with the song. It also has a nice theming system, and a great built in theme. Everything overall looks nicer than stock Android.
Another great thing about it is the status bar, you can enable/disable USB Mass Storage using an on/off slider in the notifications, and I love the way the switches work in the status bar.
Then there's the stock Launcher, which is much nicer than the stock Android launcher in my opinion, though I still replace it with Go Launcher, again, my personal favorite.
If you're looking for a responsive, nice looking, and user friendly ROM, MIUI.us would be my suggestion. It also has a nice backup feature with their servers. You just need to make an MIUI account. Not sure if it's still necessary, but back when I did it, I had to go to the chinese MIUI website and use Google Translate to make my account <_<

The best rom is hardest to define because it's really up to personally preference. MIUI? Sure if you're into that whole thing, but frankly I have trust issues with Chinese tech companies for reasons that have been in the news here and there.
Cyanogenmod is a great AOSP rom even though it's not 100% AOSP it's quick, intuitive, and has lots of options that would allow you to customize it as you want.
There are other roms such as OTA roms that have been made that are also very quick, but not quite as intuitive and they are not as easily customized as some other roms.
Now we get into Sense. There are ports of great roms from other devices that may have a minor bug here and there. Unity is a great rom but I know it needs work on it simply because of little bugs here and there, lack of ram of the Vision, and the battery drain of 1.31 is not so appealing. These roms do not perform as well as Sense roms made for the Desire Z, how ever you do not have some sense 3.0 features that make Sense so much more enjoyable to use.
I currently run Virtuous Sense v2.0.0 and it's a very quick rom, but it lacks the eye candy that we all would love with Unity. However what I love about the sense community is that there are many themes and many ways to enhance sense with add-ons here and there which I have done.
I want to clearly state that this is just my opinion and you should try out the roms for your self to get your own opinion and know your personal preference what appeals to one person is not always the same as the next.
Virtuous unity 1.31
Just test it , good for daily use
meXdroidmod Pre Ghost Chili rom! Based on CM7 2.3.4. You want speed, eye candy animations, consistent dev support, and great battery life? Look no further! PreGhost features "tweaKr" script which allows for amazing customization. You can easily down volt your voltages to create great battery life. tweakr menu pick below from terminal emulator...

Super cm7 is still my favorite. I keep trying other roms but I always come back to this one because it is super fast and clean. Mexdroid is pretty good to but it is too themed for me. I think they are working on a more stock version which could be pretty sweet.

Actually, I'm now running the "Virtuous Sense v2.0.0 :: Enhanced & Optimized Stock ROM (2.42.405.2)". I miss the Sense 3.0 features, but I can try to flash some available mods. Especially the brightness setting in the quick setting.
But it's a small tax for a stable ROM without restarts.
Soon Samsung will stop updating the galaxy s so should i install cyanogenmod 7 now or wait till the stop supporting it ...is it easy to install from gingerbread jvq I've looked at the instructions but didn't understand how to do it and is every thing working on the phone with cyanogenmod
Everything is included but the CyanogenMod for I9000 is still an unstable version. FM radio oes not work and there is a feww bug here and there.
To install it, you need to revert back to a Froyo firmware which include a bootloader because the Gingerbread bootloader is not compatible entirely with CyanogenMod. Then, you root your phone, install ClockWorkMod or any kernel that has it, download the ROM, put it in the SD Card, restart the phone in recovery, then install zip from SD Card, choose the Rom Zip file and everything should install correctly.
Here is a link to the whole process LINK
Don't forget to backup your apps, and other relevant information and more important, make a backup of your EFS folder in case your IMEI is screwed up during the upgrade.
You will need to flash back to a ROM with Froyo Bootloaders first, but the installation is now very, very easy....use my guide at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101534
As for the advantages, CM7 is the fastest and smoothest ROM available, with a high level of customization, some exceptional features like the Theme Chooser, and a very active development and user community.
The disadvantages are that the battery life usually tops out at about a day and a half between charges max, and certain hardware features don't work as well as they should, due to the fact Samsung won't release their sources. These include the 780p video camera (lower resolution films fine), FM Radio and TV Out.
IN the end, the only way to really know if CM7 is for you is to try it out and see. Some users ultimately say they prefer the Samsung ROMS while others, like myself, are addicted to the high performance and tweaks of CM7 (as well as the community).
Come by the CM7 thread in the Dev forum, read back a few pages to see what is going on and join the discussions.
Having CM7 on SGS is like owning a Ford GT40. Beatiful and powerful beast, but if you actually dare to use it, it'll probably break down or you run out of juice in the middle of nowhere.

Thats a great way of putting it
Made me laugh, There is an ounce of truth in there !!
Still a good ROM tho, a mega improvement over stock samsung roms at least.
Battery life for me is pretty much the same as stock, the performance is unrivalled and it has more functionality. For me it also more stable than 2.3.4 ROMs which have all kinds of dodgy bugs and random lags.
The battery life has been improved a lot in CyanogenMod, but it is still a bit high when using packet data.

Im not a heavy user, I play a lot of games tho (my misses fails to entertain me)
i tried CM7 when it first came out, I liked it alot, i thought it was great, God knows what its like now... 4 months later ??

It is as stable, or more stable, than any other ROM for this phone...
I dont find significant speed difference for Samsung JVQ, but it is more configurable, very usefull bits too, and it has the nicest theme, Honeycream, for someone that doesnt like green or blue themes...
The dialer and the camera apps are garbagge compared with samsung' s, but you can use the market like I did, got RocketDial and Camera360...
And you get a new version almost every night, good if you have nothing better to do then flashing the phone , plus they fix small errors and implement new features, Samsung is not doing that for the SGS any more...
EDIT battery is not a problem anymore...

Hi Guys, many ROM all over this forrum many people somtimes feel confused about all this roms.
I want so say that for my personal opinion we should look for the development of the stock missing things that we all would like to have in this phone.
I recently tried a MIUI ROM from erenz1202 and i really love it, so for me the dreamed ROM should have the following.
1- DLNA
2- faster Startup
3- improved Peformance, Smoothness and Battery
4-Better memory management (stock too laggy)
5- Auto LED Flash (For at least take pics in dark)
6- Radio (i think it's not possible)
7- Apps2SD
8- BRAVIA (I do not care)
9- Stability
Count on my donation if this is possible...
And you, what's your dreamed ROM?
Thanks
Have got mine running wolfs rom with doomlords kernel. Smooth, fast and my battery lasts two days under normal conditions.
Have modded the rom to my liking, and set up link2sd with 1gb partition. I don't see my x10 getting any better really.
My only wish is to be able to change songs with long hold of volume buttons when screen is off like I could with 2.2.

what is the best kernel for x10 brother??
Less useless tweaks and better battery and stability.
Performance ROMS are usually placebos on battery and stability e.g phone becomes laggy after 12 hours without reboot whereas uptime for stock was almost 56 hours.

Yeah I too like that rom but I'm kind of a stock kinda Guy which is why donutHD stole me for good. I would really like to love fxp cm9 for its stockiness but that 30fps thing would make a notebook flip artist feel sick. *sigh* I had this phone going on 3years and still ticking very well. Ordered a new shell and gonna have him as good as new and sell it and I always liked the arc S is ill replace my x10 with it.

Paranoid android rom
PROS
1.awesome ui, phone and tablet mode.
-ability to change apps dpi individually. Dpi for system and framework also can be changed.
Cons
1. Cm9 bugs
This rom is beautiful, I've used many ics roms and this one is perfect, for me.

Rom: Achotjan's xperia S rom.
Pros: I personally love xperia S ui, like the lockscreen music option, good ram management.
Cons: battery life is not that good, initially free ram is about 123MB then after few days use it reduces, which can then be re-obtained by rebooting.
Tweaks: Supercharger v9 (works amazingly on this rom) helps to save my battery juice somewhat.
I used Carbon tweak app for other tweaks like beats audio, dolby, srs, etc.
tried flashing "Ultimate boost" tweak package but dint see any further improvement.
I have used almost every rom including xperia s Ics, mookee, cm7, etc.
first of all hello
im using ThJap's Rom version 18b... you will not find this version in our forum,, idk why but ThJap decided to post his rom on his blog which i downloaded there from.
using stock kernel with it because stock kernel is the only kernel that runs fast in his rom,,, all other kernels are incompatible and will run like turtles.
pros::: all experia looks.,,, battery life is good... very fast and fluid,,,, very stable and no random reboots.
cons.. the only thing this rom doesnt have is the stock lockscreen from xperia s..,,, it has his own themed lockscreen slider which i didnt like. instead i played around with his rom and managed to get stock slider from xperia s integrated..
.i really recommend using this rom ... u will see real differences between other xperia s roms.. i promise...also this rom has lots of customisation there.
I am waiting for review thjap roms.
Currently im using X10S..oh well, stock look is sexy as ever ^ω^
Pros- 2nd cycle of battery, wow i can say! 2 days with normal usage! No lags at all, dunno with games cuz dint test with any..no wlods,no sudden battery drain, excellent deep sleep and the best part is reboot is so damn fast! Damn i hate waiting device rebooting after flashing or whatever.Doom kernel is fast!
Cons- less customization
-very little ram left(the setting itself uses 26-30mb ram-_-||)
Tweak used-supercharger v6 latest release.Thats all.
Overall- I give a 8/10. Its definitely a daily rom for its stabilty and full functionality.

Nice:
Techdevil evolution (stock based)
PROS:
+light, about 180 mb free ram, 150 in normal use :good: :good:,
+fast, smooth and everything goin good,
+fully working camera and video (stockbased...)
+ good gaming performance
+good battery performance
+scrolling is so damn sexy *_____*, I keep on scrolling the whole day
CONS:
+In-App-Settings doesnt work, can easily be fixed by flashing another framework-res.apk
+Theme (meego); not everyboody likes it, but its.at least not another boring sstyle or faked ics...
TWEAKS USED:
none till now, if necessary geeky engine
Btw, kernel: doomkernel v06 FS
Give it nine and a half of ten, because meego icons arent exactly my style and it needs a long time to change them by hand.... But, its sure the best rom i used sooo far (and i tried many)

This week the 3rd rom i flashed !
Rom: DonutHD 2.2.9
Pros:
- Everything u need from X10i !
-Full functionality!
Using th-kernel instead of doom's,some said doom's causing lags with this rom
Th-kernel n5-1 is recommended..
-Deep sleep works so well..no a single drop during standy mode.
-Beautiful UI ,Sexy ICONS!!! XD
-Excellent ram management.(not joking..this rom can compete with mokee rom wic i used before=120-160 free rams all time)
-NO wlods, NO random reboots
-NO boot animation so reboot is damn fast.
Cons: Until now i find none..THis masterpiece just fulfill all my needs for my old X10i.
10 out of 10! If anyone seen my review,U can flash this ROM.Easy and surprises ahead.
Just read some few pages back from the last page and follow the OP in DonutHD thread.
Dont flash any addon from the first page.Developer told so.So just follow his instructions.
NOw.
For Th kernel u have to flash stock kernel after the rom settles.then flash thkernel n5-1 like normal Rom installation.
Happy flashing ^^
cons to donuthd:
- not better than all the other roms (in performance), only different in look, which is
- not beautiful in my eyes, I like my gingerbread lookin like gingerbread
also had three roms this week: stock (for a completely new install), donut hd and now techdevil meego (that i had longer time ago and left because of settings fc, now back cause i fixed it

For the past few days I've been playing around with Paranoid Android, and aside from the usual CM9 bugs being the only cons I've found so far, pros would defiantly be the eye candy factor (hybrid tablet/phone dpi's), and it's also quite stable and fast once you set it up right!
FeraICS V2.1
The best ICS Rom i ever flashed.
This could be my last review in this thread..I found my Rom for my phone (*^﹏^*)
Everyone plz try this Rom!

YEAH!
My Rom: Feralabs ICSv2.
Pros:
+penis grows a bit - caused by ics on x10
+its damn fast and smooth, only forrest can be faster
+good ram ~100 mb
+sexy sexy cm9.1
+at least as good as any gingerbread rom, better in my eyes
+battery is good till now
+two updates till now, new kernel released, v3 in work.
Cons:
-two many preinstalled apps (but thats what I always think)
-thread always spammed by thankful fellows and me ;-D
-big sizebof the rom, its 211 mb in zip package and 315 unzipped (no guarantee^^), caused by aroma installet...
At the end not only another ics rom but a real new generation Rom,bit really predicts the 4th generation of x10 development!
Daily use is guaranteed, and i see no dev that is more ambitioned or skilled like fera!
Greets and try it.

Now i'm curious to test fera's ICS, you guys didn't mentioned at your Con list but i assume that camera isn't working fully yet, right?
After my frustration with many cm7 and MIUI roms i'm back to stock with DonutHD 2.2.9 r2 and i'm not coming back unless something reeeeeaaaaaly amazing comes out.
Donut is fast, fully functional, stable and battery friendly, i'm using ferakernel v2.7 and nuriJ's mods for status bar and screenshot, i don't need anything else unless it's something that means a significant step foward.
camera 8mp is working im still misssing some features but it takes photos and they are beautiful

Maybe you should wait for FERA v3...the changelog is amazing ! gonna update the rom whenever it's ready!
Bugs are still cm9 bugs..arent my bugs anyway..
Overall just flash Fera's Rom at your own risk..There is no guarantee for your satisfaction.
We are only give recommendation and probably some fun.
Happy flashing!
Ok, I will try it, the worse that could happen is coming back to DonutHD
Hello,
I may sound like a noob, but thats only because i didn't play with these roms much so far... so, yes, i am a noob
I managed to upgrade my U8800pro to 4.03 official thanks to some of you.
Now i am looking through the forum and many threads and many many custom roms, but i cant decide which one to go with since all seem to have problems...
So the question is: which rom is the most stable+fastest for U8800pro? It would be also nice if normal features (calls sound ok, network works ok, "notification drawer", gmail, youtube, play store, gps, wifi, tethering (wifi, usb), music playback, if possible radio, if not also ok) are also present and working. I really hope there is such rom out there. I dont mind if it is based on 2.x or 4.x (ok, i prefer 4.x, but if some 2.x is better, i will go with that), as long as it works well.
I also have U8800 and there it is easy choice. Go with Aurora, and everything (well, almost everything) works as intended. I also looked for Aurora mod for U8800pro but the best i could find is a mod for Aurora 4.x, while there is already Aurora 5.x out there.
I will post instructions for upgrading 2.2 to 2.3 to 4.03 later on, since i had problems upgrading myself for future noobs to use.
And thanks in advance

Stock Gingerbread
best ROM
nothing can beat it..
ALL custom ROMs for U8800PRO have one thing or the other that'll leave you unsatisfied..
Stock ICS is bad for gaming.
all JB 4.1 have only secondary mic (the one beside the camera) working.. plus, camera doesn't work properly except in stock/pre-installed camera app.
all JB 4.2 have buggy/broken bluetooth
If you don't play heavy games (even Subway Surfers is HEAVY for this phone ).. then you can stick to official ICS.. just unlock FPS (that "install-recovery.sh" thing) and all Temple Runs will be fine.

I'll have to disagree!
Rittik's CM10 ROM is probably the best choice. It's really fast, no lag, and with RAM Manager Pro and History wiping (long press home button), there is absolutely no problem (provided you disable apps to run at startup with Autostart).
Gaming is as smooth as stock GB, except for the games that are ridiculously heavy.
I hope I helped =)

I disagree with both of you. Our friend needs a stable ROM. So I suggest him to try Gingerbread(2.x.x) custom ROMs like THE STALLION ICS look, CyanogenMod 7.2 and MIUI. Everything works like a charm, no reboots, good RAM managment, a lot of extras(the last two ROMs) and no battery drain.
You can downgrade to Gingerbread by flashing step 2 from an official GB ROM.
How is this development?

What about wrong messages in systemUI ?? example- "Screen timeout set to 15 years"! ... "Screen timeout set to 5 weeks"!
"SDcard is damaged or has unsupported format"
"4G WiFi icon" instead of "USB icon"!
"No signal icon" instead of "GPS icon"..
What about disturbance in calls? You can hear your fingers moving on the phone's back! bcoz main mic isn't working at all!

The Stallion ICS look has no SRS WOW HD.. no DSP Manager too.
CM7.2 is buggy.. buttons backlight.. and proximity sensor.. Also, Awesome Beats™ does not work on GingerBread.. Beats™ is the only thing that can beat SRS WOW HD... CM7.2's DSP Manager is "just okay"...
Kalo is not themable.

Are you saying you prefer official GingerBread than CM7 or MIUI for example?

i have flashed almost all of the roms available for more than a week each (time required to actually see if there are any hidden bugs)
The roms with the least bugs are Kalo and stallion ics.All the others have important issues (for me) thats the reason i didnt stick with them.In general:All ics roms are heavy and laggy, not for games ofcource. All "jb" roms have very serious issues such as awful memory management and awful incall sound, the phone's most important function, broken bluetooths, broken gps, broken wifi, and a lot of smaller bugs.
All miuis have issues, mainly low memory because of the heavy ui.
Cms are almost ok but not quite there.
I didnt want to return to gingerbread after all these beautiful roms but they are just that, beautiful on the outside ugly on the inside!
we have to focus on gb roms, they are the most complete unfortunately, unless a real dev shows up and work on sources

Aurora ics 4.1 with fixed "white screen" is the best rom I think. But it is my IMHO.

I never encountered such bugs except the oversensitive mic. But that can be fixed, can't it?

that's true, that's why they are so fast. But i can add some of the missing features with apps.On the other hand i can't fix memory leaks and incall sound with an app or play heavy games..I could use chainfire 3d for boosting performance for games, but guess what,it doesn't work with jb!

yeap,they are all there..!
My favorite ROM still remains CM7.2 modified by bronxitas with forumber kernel. The ROM isn't really on XDA as far as I know but it's based on the Moihack release most likely.

I didn't expect you would say that. I don't think anyone will agree with you.
Stock ROMs lag a lot, have locked fps, are unrooted, less features...
korekore I think you 've tried the MIUI I'm on with right now.
It's fast, it has a lot of useful features, it has the most free memory I ever encountered and minimum battery drain(all night 1-2% loss).
B U T I have installed only 51 applications like every ROM I used in the past. I mention that because you said that problems start to appear after a big number of installed apps(>100).
I think this ROM siuts me better than anyone other and it was a pleasant surprise for me.
I think I gonna stick with it.
Everyone has his own priorities and his own criteria.

I wasn't a MIUI fan but I love this ROM.
I like the feature you can access notification bar from any application even in full screen.

It supports another file. I don't remember the name(something like 99unlock).
Even though I prefer MIUI or CM7 or Kalo's ROM. That's my opinion.
