webtop and gentop2 - Atrix 4G General

hi
i know there are only 3 custom roms with webtop support
but can you use any of the other roms with gentop2?
i love the neutrino rom but not being able to use the webtop is a pain
just need some sort of function to run the phone on the lapdock
even if its a mirrored display
whats the best rom options or should i have stayed on stock?

Been trying out some of the ice cream builds today
They mirror the display from the phone at the phone Res so looks quite blocky

Nope. Gentop is kind of modded OSH / webtop. Only works under blur roms.
You'll have to wait until Webtop/TabletUI will be released by moto (along with ICS).

I doubt the atrix is at the top of motos list...
but as soon as the tabletUI resolution gets sorted,
using chroot linux would be feasable... and with great optimised releases like gendols gentop2 im sure being on par with a netbook would be possible.

why cyanmogen isn't developed and released with webtop?
so hard supporting it?

CyanogenMod 7 For Desire Z Video Demonstration

Hi guys,
I came across this video posted here that shows CyaongenMod 7 RC-0 working on HTC Desire Z. According to the demonstrator in the video, there are no CyanogenMod settings (of course if it's RC-0, you wont have them), Camera not working and also Wi-Fi and GPS act stupid. I believe that its a raw compilation from CM git. What do you all think?
I think he's gonna call it CM 6.2 as 2.3 isn't really groundbreaking. Last update.zip I made from the source it had graphical glitches and no usb, gps, wifi, bluetooth, etc support
Sent from my HTC Vision using Gingerbread
Seconded. My guess is 6.2. Or maybe 6.3, to match up the version numbers..? Haha.
Cyanogen is going to make it 7.0, said so on his twitter
When you compile the gingerbread CM build from git, it says CM 7.0-RC0
i don't see many new things in gingerbread, even cyanogen doesn't use original launcher . Only some touch in gui..., no revolutionary interface...( i still remember google said, no custom launcher again in gingerbread )

Wish the whole video wasn't about showing what's broken though
After all the work done today, it's down to the camcorder and a minor GL glitch that causes Quadrant to crash. The camcorder is broken on every platform except for the Nexus S. I think it's fixable, and I have it partially working.

Oh yay! I haven't attempted to compile source since power went out (along with cell towers) and the power company won't have it fixed until xmas so I'm currently running off of generator =/ I tried doing a repo sync earlier but got impatient and will probably set it to run over night

What are the difference.
The first rumours about gingerbread talked about "great" changes...
I can't hardly "see" any changes.
I am wondering what the real changes are. Does it work faster? Does it has another feel? What does it do with the battery?
I was looking forward to gingerbread, but i am afraid it is going to be dissappointing.
(PS sorry for my ****ty english.)
BTW love the hard work of the cyanogenmod team.

There are some seriously awesome things for developers to use, the biggest are the new native APIs that finally puts Android on par with iPhone for gaming. Other than the dark theme and SIP calling, all the good stuff in G is under the hood.

[Q] Gingerbread for iconia a500?

is anyone doing a gingerbread rom for iconia? i know its not ment for tablets but i love my nexus s and it flows so much better than honeycomb(in my opinion anyway) i love honeycomb aswell, but i would love to see gingerbread on my iconia, it wouldnt be the first tablet to run it, (i know ice-cream sandwidge will run on both) but gingerbread rules,(roll on CM7?) Good work on what has been done on the iconia so far, i got a lot of respect for you devs.. keep it moist
There are no physical keys on a500 to support mobile version of android
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk
no kernel source, even if its possible it will lack everything
The part about not having phisical keys doesn't matter you just but them in the luancher like vegantab did as for the kernel wouldn't you be able to port over one from the Adam or any other t2 rom?
Did you try to change the lcd density, as said here?
You´ll be running GB (in some way, at least...)

is there any etas or a estamet on the ics update from actual cymod or samsung

Yep Samsung released ICS on the Google Nexus. If you want update from cymod, check the dev forums. All the info is there.
As of right now, there is no official ETA on Cyanogenmod9 (ICS) although from looking at their latest work (Nightly Builds, they are close. They will have to go through some Betas and then a RC (Release Candidate,) but even the Alphas are in a very good state. Usually by the time it is in Beta, CM is in a daily-driver condition.
As for Samsung's official ICS rom, the company has committed to bringing ICS to the entire Galaxy Tab line in Q1 of 2012, which means in the first 3 months of the year (Jan, Feb, March) Bear in mind that there is the possibility that they will miss that deadline due to unforseen bugs and isssues, so they may end up delivering in Q2, which would still put them on track for their initial promise of the first half of the year.
Hi everyone
I am pretty new to all this stuff with the tabs. I am running tasks 13.1 ROM with pershoots latest kerrnel.

The tab is much much faster with ICS and the general performance is better. For example theres no lag when using the appswitcher.
Some things aren't working yet (Camera, native VPN) but since a few days even hardware-accelerated video is working. Just do a nandroid backup and try it out, it runs REALLY great! I would never go back

Does ICS make it faster?
I just picked up a 10.1 and am very dissapointed with its performance. Very laggy and not a great user experience.
Before I sell it or put too much effort into it, do any of the ICS builds make a noticeable improvement in the over all performance? Or is it just a better UI?
Honeycomb is downright awful IMO, and I would rather have GB stretched out on this thing given the inconsistency of HC. I know ICS will address some of those concerns, but if it doesn't also bring with it a performance improvement I think I will sell this thing.
Thanks for your input!

ICS is much better than HC, not just the UI. At the moment, there's still a few things that don't work (camera, for example). But don't take my word, try it, it will only take a few minutes and then you decide if it's good enough.
you can get immediate and excellent performance by just going to GalaxyTask custom ROM - ICS is even more smoother

Try the ICS 3G Rom from Mobalito: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1461240
Compared to the stock honeycomb that comes with the 10.1, this is night and day. Performance on stock honeycomb was a JOKE. Lagged like my HTC Hero. Same day as I bought the pad I installed this ICS ROM and it's been awesome ever since. Only need the camera working now!
You wont be dissapointed. This is a great piece of hardware, but shipped with unoptimized software. Flash your own software in and you'll love it!
Even going to a custom 3.2 rom will give a lot of speed and responsivness. 3.1 is realy realy not the best rom to put on a device and help "selling" the thing!
I've been running Galaxy Task Slim 13.1 and it's realy better than stock 3.1. I haven't tryed the stock 3.2 yet though, that might be a performance jump also!
I too agree. After the switch to the ICS there is no way to revert back to the old HC version. This despite the lack of the camera and the VPN......

Lapdock owners and WebTop users, help needed!

hey guys, i am coming to the general discussion board with something relatively new to me. this week i will be receiving my Atrix back from motorola (dead space on the screen, again) and the LapDock i ordered from amazon (total steal at $85!) now i've never owned a lapdock before but i did use the HDMI hack to use the webtop environment with my phone as a touchpad. i've been mostly on the CM9 scene until now but that is an exponentially far way off. my question is; what ROM do y'all suggest that has LapDock functionality and is your favorite?
Nottachtrix 1.3.1 is great, with full webtop functionality (or webtop2SD) if you please. I have been happy with CM9 builds (AOKP in particular) that have tablet functionality baked in. Also I have been using Ubuntu to Android Installer App on all of the listed builds, and have been relatively happy with that (if using full linux is important to you). However, with the last option, using the VNC client seems to come at the expense of graphical sharpness.
Hey,
I personally suggest Nottachtrix, it is by far the best blur ROM out there.
For the webtop you have 2 choices:
Ubuntu - Webtop2SD
Gentoo - ADB
Their both good. Read up on each of them to see what you like... Sorry I don't have the links right now...
Definitely Nottachtrix.
Here are the 4 Webtop mods available right now.
Full Linux (Debian) Inside Webtop
Eternity Project Gentoo (dated)
Webtop2SD
GenTop2
I am currently on GenTop2 but am also going to give Debian Inside Webtop a go now that the links are back up. There will be upcoming improvements with it also.

Hello I've just order myself an atrix & lapdock... I'm super excited!
I currently have a Xperia play on aokp and definitely can't go back to gingerbread, ics has spoiled me.
I think using chrootLinux/vncing to a server via the tabletui would be the best option for me.
Just hoping you can clarify what you mean by graphical sharpness. -- not contesting your opinion or anything just curious.
+1 on Nottachtrix 1.31 as the best Blur ROM to stay with the WebTop type apps.
Just spent the last 4 hours letting the GenTop2 system install that others have linked to. Takes the place of the Motorola WebTop.
Looks pretty good so far!
thank you guys, this is really helpful! i am more familiar with
Ubuntu than any other distro and i was a user of the Android Ubuntu installer via VNC method, is WebTop2SD any better in terms of speed and size taken up?
Can you use any of those webtop options with CM9?

no, cm9 does not work with any webtop
out of curiousity, anyone who has tried a few of these, which one is the fastest from your experience? I would imagine it would be gentop, what is the second fastest? webtop2sd?

I am far from an expert on this, so bear with me. Essentially what you are doing with the VNC / Ubuntu install solution is logging into a "remote" linux session that happens to be taking place on your phone. The VNC client uses a graphical representation of your screen (a picture essentially) that updates regularly, but introduces a bit of lag to the experience. Further compounding this is the fact that the screen is mirrored from "phone-size" to "lapdock-size" so there is some pixelation introduced. As such, it's not the prettiest solution, but it is very functional for openoffice type tasks.
Oh, one other thing, the Ubuntu on Linux does not require a gigantic reinstall (ala Webtop2SD) when you switch roms. It is very simple, assuming you do not format the drive that holds the system files.
As an aside, if you use the "Ubuntu on Android" installer, I have had bad luck with the VNC client that the dev recommends (mouse problems). After speaking with him, I downloaded Pocketcloud (free from the Play Store), which works much better, though still suffers from the stuff I discussed above.

SOD solved using TegraOwner rev 170

Hi all,
Just a short post to share my experience with ICS.
I moved from HC (Taboonay 3.0) to ICS and install Re-Flexxx ROM. Beautifull ROM but face quickly my first SOD. Discover wakelock application that help to avoid the SOD by the battery life was shortened.
I try differents bootloader, try to wipe all (data/caches...) try to format partitions, try a lot of different kernels , look through last_kmsg log with the hope to find some root cause but never succeed to solve the SOD issue.
I move then to Taboonay 3.2b4 ROM hoping the SOD was ROM dependant but face the same SOD problem.
I was on the way to revert to HC bootloader but decide to try one more ROM not available on XDA: TegraOwner ROM v170. I'm running this ROM since 2 days and did not face any more SOD.
My 2 cents for thoses in the same situation than my with their A500 tab.
Bye
MY "5" cents worth...
Please, in the future, remember that post's like this belong in the "General" forum.

I can confirm that TegraOwnera ROM rocks. Gave it a try yesterday and immediately forgot about any Acer update matter. In a couple of days(maybe hours) they'll release JB which i think will be as good as ICS.
So I advice you all forgotting about official update and install ICS mod which is even better than the official would ever be.

If you think that's good, run aokp ICS or jb, or even cyanogenmod they are the biggest and best out there, and there ROMs come with some many extra features to where you can customize literally just about any detail, from colors to layout design, to integrated settings with features like nova launcher. (Controlling animation effects, changing my desktop to look like a cube went switching desktops, and more)
If you have not ran aokp, or cyanogenmod ICS then no wonder you think tegraowners is the best
Acer stock, is well stock.
tegraowners is tweaked.
aok/cm is tweaked, and have sh** tons more features, like changing themes, changing design, CPU control, UI control, ect...
Maybe tegraowners ROM could be as good if they had a team of hundred programmers with the goal of improving android, and adding additional features.
That's why those ROMs are better than tegraowners will ever be, anyone who has tried cm/aokp can tell you.
By the way the jellybean ROM here is a lot better than ICS,.... not just as good.
And by the way there is already a 99% working cyanogenmod 10 jelly bean ROM here, it just doesn't have all the features cyanogenmod usually have integrated with it yet. Reason people don't like tegraowners is because he keeps his source closed, why hide something if you have nothing to hide? People worry that in his code he can be tracking every little thing you do, even everything you type. Not saying he does, we just don't know that he doesn't, because its closed source. Either way aokp or cyanogenmod are the best ROMs out there with tons of features tegraowners does not have. That's why if you Google it those roms are the biggest and best.

OK so TO does not have a tweaked kernel? Not tweaked for over clocked, or faster benchmark? Thought so.
I know what I'm talking about trust me, I am a programmer for a living.
Oh, he built it from the grown up before there was official ICS?
He didn't just start creating his own original clone of ICS...
ICS was leaked online before the official release, so just like every developer here, they got ahold of the leaked ICS which gave the community lots of ICS roms before Acer even official released it.
He customized heavily, and yes some of it is his original code, but it is based on the ICS leak originally... so do some research, educate yourself.
He also maybe using the cyanogen device tree, but does not have there features, not all of them anyways.

Oh no problem man, I'm not sure if 501 has an official forum yet, but most ROMs will work for 501 if they are for a500 just won't have 3g unless they add support for it, a lot of developers here will make versions for it sometimes.
Trust me man, you will want to look into aokp (android open kang project) which is my personal favorite, which is similar to cyanogenmod, and if i am not mistaken aokp uses some of the CM source. Try googling "aoko features" or better yet, maybe find a list of features it has, or better yet watch a in depth review on YouTube... there is so many extra features I can't even begin to start to name them, for one you can change the design and colors of everything in notifications and task bar.. change transition effects in the apps menu and desktop (like nova launcher, except a lot of times it is integrated) change themes, change layouts, toggle which options you want to show in notification menu, to changing small details of how the icons look like, and add or remove options in it... there is performance where you can change governor and CPU speeds, pretty much it goes in depth if customization, say when I want to scroll through desktops it looks like I'm spinning a cube, or other effects.. you can pretty much change the color, design and layout of everything, add music to boot animations and much more, trust me man you may love it, or you may feel that TO ROM is more for you.
Anyways check out some YouTube videos of aokp, you will see what im talking about

All of the home screen animations (cube, stack, etc), all of the drawer options (fade side pages, transitions, merge with widgets, etc), all of the theme and lock screen options, all of the system options (top status bar, inverted status bar, power widgets, quick launches), hell it even has the dock options in case you decide to run a launcher that isn't trebuchet. Its CM9, I don't know why you would think it doesn't. He even uses the CM9 boot animation and in settings, clear as day "CyanogenMod version" and "Tegraowners ICS ROM v170 (thor & digetx)".
As for the Acer ICS leak, the Tegraowners rom was on v96 when the leak came out, all that wasn't working was the camera. It was 100% built from the ground up. I don't give a damn if you're a programmer or not, that doesn't change that thor had built a 99% functional ICS before we got the leak. If thor had the leak from v1 like you're trying to claim, he wouldn't have had "waiting on Acer ICS HAL" next to camera on the to do list until after v96, he would have straight up had working camera. He didn't modify the leak or stock rom, he built from source. AOSP. Android Open Source Project. It is possible to build it from scratch you know.
And his kernel isn't tweaked either, just like his entire rom, he made it from scratch. Its not a tweaked Acer kernel, its his own. Thats why his work isn't allowed to be linked to here, he won't share what he built. Don't tell me to educate myself when you don't know a damn thing about thors CM9, a rom people have been running longer than the Acer leak existed.

He may use some of the CM9 source, but he does not have all there features, at least the latest TO ROM I ran did not.

If you're a programmer for a living, I would expect you to have a better handle on the English language than this. Just saying.

Nice to see that someone actually knows what he's talking about in this thread lol
This fixed my sleep of death issue completely, it's been three days, totally stable!
@nifterific, you were faster I wanted to write exactly everything you wrote about functions. Great post!
@lifeofcoding, you know, it's all about 3G support. There are so many ROMs for A500, and I'm sure they're really good, but the worst thing for A501 owner is that they don't support internal 3G. Now I think I could count all A501 ICS ROMs using fingers from one hand: Evil Alex which is almost as Acer official, bugged Acer leak 021 and awesome TegraOwners. And when Thor will release JB for A501, then there will be really no alternative. As long as CM10 will not support 3G.
