Hello !
Yesterday I was very much surprised when I downloaded all mp4 HD video from my SGS2 to the TAb and neither file couldn't be played on stock player. After hours of rush in the Internet I tryied almost all other known players but the bext I achieved was slow motion video in dice player. What is your expereience? Did anybody run smoothly HD videos on his device?
720p is fine. 1080p is not. You can grab bsplayer free from the market, very nice player.
I believe the only hardware accelerated codec is H264 so any video not in that format would have issues with 1080p. I personally played a 720p Xvid, over the network, using MX Player last night. DICE had speed problems with it.
In my experience DICE is better for MKV and MX is better for AVI etc.
there's discussions and recommendations about this in this thread

If there is any app that would do it if the hardware was up to spec it would be Dice Player. It eats all my 720p MKV's for breakfast but still can't do 1080p.
Does anyone know if the 7.7" version plays back 720p MKV without any problems?
I have the original 7.0", and it plays 720p MKV perfect!
I also have a 10.1", but that one is struggling with 720p MKV in stock and other players. (on both HC3.1 and 3.2). Apparently the Tetra2 is not ideal for this...
This is my only deal-breaker for the 7.7.
Would really appreciate your feedback!

Because they forgot to implement the NEON chipset!
1080p/720p mkv's shouldn't be a problem on the 7.7 with MX Player or DICE.

Nope, no problem at all.
It can play 1080p, 8 bit , high bitrate movie with hardware decoding just fine( use mxvideoplayer with arm7 neon codec)
No problems playing 720p mkvs. Heck I can even play 10-bit 720p anime files using MX Player in SW mode. You'll notice a very slight fps drop during panning scenes and such but audio, video, and subs still stay in sync so it's quite watchable. Heard once you get ICS you will be able to take advantage of HW mode on all videos, even 10-bit.
I'm using rooted official 2.3 rom. when I play mkv 720p movies , video plays at lower frame rate than usual and problem in audio video sync. I use mx player and hardware decoder is not available for mkv. can please anyone suggest me some tips to play 720p smoothly. and is there hardware decoding available in new adreno driver in dzo ics for mkv?
I m using bsplayer lite tha supports mkv.
720p on nearly 480p device?
Professionals can correct me, there are few reasons why it won't play in full speed:
1) .mkv files need usually the same space as .mp4, but it has better quality. BUT needs more power to play. That is the disadvantage of matroska. So if there is too high bitrate on the video, it lags/wents off sync. Overclocking might help.
2) 720p??! Really? This phone CAN record 720p video with good fps, but only in good light conditions. You can even watch them (because they are so low-bitrate), but if you have like 720p movie, it lags due to high bitrate it needs to look clear. BUT why would you want to play 1280x720 (16:9 ) resolution video in 800x480 (16:10) resolution screen? Shapes will look odd... I would prefer 480p (854x480).
3) I'm guessing that your movie is on your memorycard? If your memorycard is too slow, can that be the reason for lagging too. This can be fixed with faster memorycard.
4) Switch to Moboplayer. I don't have any experience of mxplayer, but Moboplayer can use hardware decoding for that.
How to play 720p and 1080p videos full screen in nexus 4?
If they are supported file formats it should work with the stock video app. For other formats, especially mkv I head to search for I while. I came up with this one, works without problems:
RockPlayer2
It can also handle most music formats, including flac Drains the battery like crazy though, when playing HD mkv videos. Not that that would be very surprising...
DMM high quality VR video (and 4k video) very lagging (look like drop fps). I don't know how to it happen. Like GPU can't handle but my Redmi Note 10 Pro playing well
I tested on youtube, AiywjdYcQ_s is the link, at 4k i cannot see any lag in the video, are you maybe watching a x265 video with high bitrate? As that would result in chuppy playback.
I tried a 4k x265 mkv in VLC(on this phone 12gb model) it was a sample with very good picture about 3 mins long running smooth, on TV it looked really good too.
High bitrate x265 files do lag but i don't have any for test.
