[Q] Scary brown patch on white screen on Tmous Hd2.Need help - HD2 General

Ok..so i've been using my TMOUS Hd2 for sometime, but suddenley i see a scary brown patch on the white screen of my hd2..like a ghost looking at me..you know i mean..my question here ,is it a faulty lcd? or motherboard issue? or digitizer? but hey wait let me tell you everything works fine..the touch is perfect no screen lags,no freeze on screen..working flawless only when the phone pulls up white background like browser & start up screen "stick together" overall any white background the brown patch shows up..can anyone confirm this issue..any fix? Please let me know.. appreciate all the help..thanks much
Attaching the pic of brown patch ghost sitting inside my Hd2

if it is located around the middle, top half of the creen, it could be pressure related to an expanding battery. Does the patch get worse if you press on it? It seems illogical that a glass screen would be susceptible to newtonian pressure rings, but in the case of an expanding battery, when you press the screen, the pressure is actually coming from the back.
I've had like a dozen HD2's, and first noticed it when I used an aftermaket battery, which after a few months started getting thicker and thicker and I noticed the newtonian pressure rings. If that's the case with you, go back to the stock battery, or take out the battery door and try it again to see if problem goes away. If it goes away, you know it's time for another $3 ebay battery!

@ atlaswing did you actually check the screenshot attached? the brown patch is not just in the middle it's starting from the bottom and going upward..like a volcano eruption..u know i mean?..i haven't used aftermarket battery, but yes i did buy one to keep it handy..so i'm using the original battery, but well i see that the water damage sticker on the phone battery outlet inside it looks white so its not water damaged i still got void sticker on..so never opened for service, but yes the sticker on battery has turned lil pinkish white..not red to be called water damaged.probably moisture or kinda stuff, but my concern is what i said above ,its like a brown patch all around the white screen, which don't make any issues with the usage or touch or any hang or freeze

Anyone know if this is an issue with the digitizer or just the lcd screen?

I would lean towards lcd but would need device in hand to be more sure.
lcd has a plastic film on it so could be an issue with that ...

8525 White Screen of Death - Is there Hope?

Ok so I have the fabled white screen issue on an 8525. When it first occurred I searched and read all the write ups, decided I had the ribbon cable issue. Took it apart and simply unplugged and replugged the ribbon cable with great results, no more white screen.
I repeated once when it came back after being bumped around, again with positive results...but this last(3rd)time instead of it working I now get white screen 95% of the time. I re-notched the sliders the first time, and last time.
During the 5% it works I noticed the charge light would correspond to it going white. This never happened before...
Example:
When OFF - Connect charger, Red light for 1 second, then nothing=White screen from power on
When OFF - Connect charger, Red light for 1 second, then orange charge indicator = normal startup
When ON and Working - Connect charger, no light, no charge - reboots to white screen
When ON and Working - Connect charger, orange charge indicator, reboots normally.
There is no heat or noticeable pressure on any parts, everything seems to fit normally.
It does boot normally with screen white.
Any ideas? I really don't want to give up on this thing, is there any hope? or just ebay it for parts?
Thanks
-Nick
same problems here, if someone could just tell me what parts to order, cause I have no warranty (ordered over ebay). I tried both the instruction that has chinese fonts on the page , and other from R&R, no luck, white screen all the way..
I had the WSOD and took it apart and reassembled a few time. The 3rd or 4th time the screem came back, but now it is shifter to the right around 1/4" or so. I mean there is just white along the left edge, then the normal screen/color starts and is cut off on the right.
Does anyone know how to correct that, is it related to the same flex cable or is there something else I disturbed?
mine will fade to white.. then i just push the power to put it in standby, then push power again to wake it back up and back to normal.. it rarely does it but still annoying...
If You Ordered From At&t
I had this problem about 2 weeks ago!!!!
I thought it was a fluke!
Anyway, walked over to 43rd and Lexington (NYC FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW THAT MANHATTAN IS THE CENTER OF THE WORLD)
and they gave me the EXCHANGE HOTLINE for at&t.
I called them up, told them my screen is fading to WHITE and the lady sent me a new or referbished phone.. i dont even know.
Just so you know, i ordered my phone on AMAZON with a new activation. its covered under the MANUFACTURERS warentee for a full year from the date of purchase... so is the REPLACEMENT PHONE... but not from the date of replacement, just the date of purchase.
did anyone get deeper into this yet? I got a 8500 (need those without camera) from ebay USA, already with white screen. After reading here, that this is mostly an issue with connectors, I bought it, disassembled it and reassembled it, though still white. Should I give the contacts a treatment with contact-spray? (there's a tuner spray that doesn't leave residues) Or is there something broken within the ribbon cables? Seller said it has been dropped (but he also said, he didn't want to open it, while it clearly has been opened, one screw missing and warranty seal gone). It ssems to boot up normal otherwise, I hear a sound after the boot process, so probably this isn't a software issue?
Edit: another thing I noticed: When I run it without any keyboard connected at all, it's also white. I then connected the dpad again, and I could see a hint of the at&t logo in the lower part of the screen. When I pressed around on the back of the dpad a bit, all LEDs would go on/off... Sound to me like the dpad has gone bad, possible?
Edit II: Got it. Using a 20x eyeloupe I found that the PCB of the DPad is broken under the little chip on it. Now I just gotta find a dpad here in germany, but I assume those Hermes' are all equal...
hello
where can I get manual (if there is one) for disassembling hermes. link in wiki does not work.
thanks
this worked good for me

Anyone know if this applies to the 8125 as well? I've got a flickering white screen. I had dropped my phone a few weeks back and cracked the LCD. Replaced it with an OEM LCD - it worked fine for about 2 weeks and then just suddenly went all white. Phone still works, I can still get calls - just can't see who is calling.
I don't recall that the wizard had the same problem... Though from a logical point, it seems that there is an issue behind white screens and the thumbpad being responsible for it, so it may well be the same thing. Perhaps just disassemble the wizard (there should be a howto too) and check if theres a similar connection from mainboard to thumbpad circuit.
Is there a disassembling manual for a imate k-jam that anyone knows about?
Here's a website with a video manual i found useful...
http://viralelectronics.com/category/howto/page/2/
Figured out the problem...
The only reason I figured out the screen goes blank is because the motherboard loses connection with the screen when you slide the keyboard out...try this out and see if the screen comes back...
put the screen on sleep mode (no white screen)...then slide out the keyboard and tilt it a little hard after pressing on the screen and put the power on. if it doesnt work try again it might take some pressure and power to make it work...be careful not to put too much power but as far as I went, it's a very sturdy cell.
alternately, slide out the keyboard in sleep mode, and press all the buttons really hard and then try to press the power button (press more towards the space bar because that helps)...if any of this works and the screen comes back on even just for a second...follow the following
Go back to the person who gave the link to the site with opening the HTC instructions and follow through and clean the whole phone up from dirt around the screen and such...you dont need to put those rubber things or whatever it says to put on the screen...then when you are putting it back together, press hard on the wire connecting the touch screen to the motherboard. I suggest sealing it with a good tape...and then you are good to go! I did it but it had a few glitches...the screens contrast sometimes goes awry but it is still visible and responds to touch. Also, the physical buttons work as well!!
Good Luck and do it at your on risk.
Have any of you tried this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=321163
hope the best
i tried this and it worked for me. i also pressed alil hard around the d-pad and heard a pop. i think it poped back into place.
thanks

fixed my wsod
I noticed a few days ago my 8525 screen went white, rebooted and it went away. Today it came back, but would only go away for a few seconds and then back to white. After reading some forums I decided to check the connector. I took the phone apart following this site as a guide. I removed the connector on the board side and cleaned the contacts with a qtip and denatured alcohol. Phone has been perfect for the last few hours, no more white screen of death. I didn't mess with the connector on the LCD side, just the board side. I'm a computer tech and I found it quite annoying to disassemble, but I managed without causing any damage, however, I'd rate the job at about a 8/10 as far as technical ability.

i agree that this is one of the first things to try in curing the white screen issue. Others may find their problem runs a little deeper and the contacts on the d/pad chip are broken. An improvised cure which may not be very permanent is to place a little padding on the surface of the chip as described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=321163
If you have appropriate heat gun equipment you can re-flow the solder on the d/pad daughter board - but remember to remove the sticky key pad layer or you'll cook it!!
I regret that I'm closing this thread because we have several "White Screen" threads and the questions and answers are being spread all over the place.

HTC Trophy Screen Defect

I've noticed a defect on my screen, it looks like a watermark, as if the glass hasn't been coated correctly.
I took the phone back to the shop today and swapped it for another which has the same issue (although not so severe). It's most noticable when the screen is off in bright light.
I'm waiting for new stock to arrive Friday but in the meantime has anyone else noticed this problem?
Nope. Everything fine here. (Or at least I can't find anything )
Ah great, I was thinking it was just me.
I can see it in mine too, around the borders of the glass and especially around the windows button. It mostly shows up when there's fingerprints on the glass, you can see a distinct lighting change around the affected areas.
I'll try to get a picture of it.
Ah ok, found it.
But I don't think that this is a defect or sth.,
My guess: These areas lipophobic? Maybe there was some glue on it? Some you won't see any fingerpints on these areas. This would eplain why you can't see them when there are no fingerprints on the screen.
No big deal for me tough.
I don't think it's glue. It looks like a screen coating.
I've tried removing it with both isopropyl alcohol and thinners and neither would touch it.
I thought it was a plastic cover to peel off - but no
Me too, I thought it was a plastic cover to peel off - but no it does not peel off, i have air gaps under the edges on 3 sides - and the largest is under the htc screen logo :-(
Me too - one long finger top left and some other places bottom and side
pretty sure its some sort of glue residue - you can feel a slight change in resistance
can see it easily by blowing on glass - seems to resist condensation
looks just like screen has been given a quick wipe to clean and they've missed a couple of bits top and bottom.
tried screen wipes and opitcal wipes but no effect
Me too
Recieved mine yesterday, immediately noticed the effect. All along the bottom by the buttons, and along the the left hand side.
Looks like 2 layers didn't completely bond perhaps? The glass and whatever provides the black background.
Tim
me as well, ill upload a video of mine in half an hour, its pretty bad on mine, most of the time it isn't visible. and yeah resistance on that area is different when i rub my thumb hard over the screen it is smooth, but over those droplet like parts there is friction..im guessing that most of my screen is coated and those bits are mistakenly not.
(i thought it was the other way round before)
VIDEO OF SCREEN DEFECT-VIMEO
Same issue here - like an air bubble just beneath the surface of display. My device is slightly affected across the top edge, which is not so bad, but there is a large blob just below the windows key along the bottom edge which is a little distracting. Shame it looks like HTC shipped with such a widespread product defect, as this appears it could be.
Am also finding GPS very flaky - location services more often then not just don't work.
Still, very impressed with WP7. Think HTC could do better ... am wondering what the Samsung is like and what the Venue Pro will be like. Tempted to switch!
same issue here. seems all devices have this feature ...
ps: today in the office i checked again the screen and found out that you can find this bubbles around the screen everywhere. seems it reacts on humidity. strange ...
I've been back to the Vodafone store today as they had received new stock. Both handsets we looked at had the same issue.
The manager at the store said that HTC were going to be issuing a recall and that they were aware of the problem.
I am awaiting a call regarding an alternate replacement.
Ok for me!
same here, especially around bottom left corner, around the left arrow.
I noticed when you wipe the screen hard it disappears, but after a few touches of the screen it appears again.
I wrote to the HTC also and waiting for the reply :
same here - allaround the screen

i think everyone have this problem, specilly from vodafone. and i also have software issue, everytime after using the marketplace, and the icon of some apps were gone, and no preview of the pictures. also the apps download from marketplace not seems to be running, after long time use.....already retun the phone to vodafone, and waiting for the issue to be solved...
My screen is ok. Well, not really oké. Since they didn't put a slcd on it, but a worser screen... Luckily no bubbles. I checked it 1000s times in all kind of lights and darknesses and with and without finger prints. But no bubbles here.
Same problem !!!
I have the same Problem (Austria, A1)
HTC Trophy
Hi,
Same problem here, bottom and one in the top.
Vodafone Portugal here :-(
I bought mine 2 weeks ago. Will Vodafone give another phone?
Thank you.

[Q] Potential water damage [Need help before service]

Hi,
After using my phone after a workout I'm afraid I water/moist damaged the touch screen. The screen suddenly started to make touch inputs by itself and then I turned the phone of, removed the back cover to check for any liquid. I noticed that there unfortunately were some moist behind the back cover.
So I decided to leave the phone off without the back cover to hopefully dry up for about 24 hours. But when I turned the phone on again the touch screen was totally unresponsive. So I guess the moisture broke something in the screen (from my googling I'm suspecting the digitizer).
But my question is if anyone knows or is willing to check on their working phones what color the moisture indicator (not sure if there actually are two indicators on the D802??) on LG G2 is when it's indicating water damage? I'm guessing that it is red when there has been water on it but unfortunately I couldn't find any high quality pictures on Google showing the original color of the moisture indicator and the color of a indicator that has been exposed to water.
I'm planning on giving it a try to use my factory warrenty to have the screen replaced but if the moisture indicator clearly shows that there have been water involved, I might have to reconsider
Anyhow, I would be very happy if someone is willing to upload a picture of an untouched, non water damaged, moisture indicator(s).
Of course, if someone has any tips regarding why the screen is unresponsive, you're more than welcome to share
Thanks in advance!

Hi, this exact scenario happened to me a few weeks ago, when I answered a call while sweating profusely. In my case I noticed that all of a sudden I could not hear the person on the other side of the call so I plugged in my headset and completed the call. The speaker grill was just a bit wet, but the screen was covered in sweat, specially so on the area that now does not work.
Then I started noticing the screen started to fail on the now common horizontal zone on the upper part of the screen only.
I have not managed to make it work since. I guess a full screen replacement is at hand... But I'm waiting to get a smartwatch, so maybe the screen will come after that, if ever.
Cheers

replacement screen issue

hi everyone, I decided to replace the cracked screen of my n4, I ordered one with housing (much easier), I thought it s goona be an easy task giving I did it like five times with no problems, but I noticed at the end the screen was working but yellowish horizontal stripes appeared in the background, and I couldn't get rid of them, I dismantled and I reassembled it with no success, I couldn't find any satisfying answer on line. please any help to get my phone back to normal will be appreciated.

Have you contacted your vendor about a replacement?
If your old LCD still works connect that back up and check if it has the same problem, if not you know it's a problem with the new part.

Old one if dead, that's why I replaced it.
A and my phone was bought from Craigslist, no guarantee.
Anyway it seems like static, because it starts very strong but fades away without disappearing completely. I hope it's not the part.
bad part
Sounds like a faulty part to me. If reseating the connectors didn't solve it I'd inquire about swapping that replacement part for another.
One question though. It has yellowish horizontal stripes.. are they blotchy or are they uniform top to bottom on the screen? There's a possibility something isn't seated properly or a screw too tight or some debris caught in between that would but pressure on the LCD and cause the discolouration.

i don't think it's the part, because when i installed the first time the screen worked fine no yellow lines, but i had to reopen it a second time for some reason (i forgot what) and when i reassembled it the lines appeared for first time. since then they stayed there despite opening it and reassembling it many times. now i found out i have a proximity sensor issue when screen goes black during calls and speaker is not working at all.
so that's it for i'm done with nexus 4, it's pretty and well designed but troubleshooting is a b**ch!

[Q] Hardware (probably) issue - screen/touch sensor

Hello,
Had my N4 for about 2 years now, right from the start. It fell on the floor a few times (no bumper or case) so I guess that's the root cause of the issue.
I have a horizontal thick line that is untouchable.
Attaching a screenshot of me just drawing straight lines top to bottom and as you can see no lines are drawn in that area.
A repair shop took it apart, cleaned some parts and put it back together again, said it's not a dust thing but more likely either a screen or touch sensor replacement.
I was thinking about Ebayying it because it will be a whole log cheaper.
Is this it - ebay dot com /bhp/nexus-4-screen
And what if it's a 'sensor' chip issue? is that something else?
Also, I'm a fairly technical guy so I won't have any issues with assembling it. (I hope).

If you had asked before taking it into the repair shop , i could have saved you a couple of bucks
Anyway , buy it from gadgetfix (ebay) , if you're gonna buy it from somebody. Else , you might have gps signal/proximity sensor/notification light issues. Some make a frame from scratch , which is supposed to be a magnesium alloy , they probably don't get the mixture right , signal degrades , gps is affected the most. Some have deeper proximity sensor sockets , which creates a gap and the sensor registers that gap as an object , so it'll turn off during calls and will not turn back on until the call ends. Plus you won't be able to use apps like Gravity Screen. Some assemblies don't have a notification light diffuser , which is bad because nexus 4 has 2 leds that light up as different colors to achieve off-colors such as purple. The one on the left will give out blue the other one red , when it goes through the diffuser , it becomes purple. If you don't have that , you're just gonna see those 2 colors and it will blind your eyes but you will be able to see the phone's internals if you think that's cool
Disassembling it is pretty easy , you won'T have problems. Buy the assembly with frame not just the glass and the lcd. If you can't manage it somehow (unlikely) , just pm me , i'll guide you on skype or something.
Cheers!
