Phone going back to Orange with Miui ROM on it - Desire HD General

Has anyone sent a phone back to orange still rooted and with a custom rom on it?
My phone has got to go back due to a fault (water damage), I cant get any other rom to get past a boot loop at start so it has to go back with Miui rom on it.
I have tried to get other roms onto it but it will only accept my nand backups.
Just curious to see if im gonna get any problems from orange
regards
Jo

As understand it they will try and decline warranty repairs if they find evidence of software hacking, but AFAIK water damage is excluded from warranty repairs anyhow so I would expect them to repair it but at a cost.

They might take away your warranty, be careful!

It can vary....I know many people (including myself) who have sent phones to get repaired with customs roms etc and they havent found it however, it all depends on your luck and your providers intelligence

Should be alright then no one less tech savvy than orange

I've sent my Desire HD away to be repaired with MIUI (MrGaraks' Finest) on it, the vibration motor packed in. They sent it back repaired with the 1.72.405.x firmware on it, which wasn't the latest available but the only one that was rootable at the time.
When the motor packed in again. I sent it away with CM7 on it. It came back repaired with CM7.
Orange will send the handset to HTC to be repaired. Both times I sent the phone to Orange and they came back from HTC.
As always your experience may vary, depends who picks your phone up to fix it & what mood they are in.

Exchange problem... HELP!

So I was talking to Sprint and they finally processed an exchange for my Epic. Problem is, I went to stock with odin and everything is working fine now!! Sadly, the replacement has already been sent out and I'm left with a "good" phone. The problem is now that my phone is working fine what do I do?! I'm really scared I'll get billed 500 for shipping in a non defective phone.
-desperate for help

Pretty sure you're going to be fine, as long as there is no cosmetic damage to the phone that they can blame any of your problems on.

Hmm I have some scratches on the side its minor though the silver was kinda chipping off like really minor though.
Would going to DK28 then stock 2.1 create problems with the phone?

Pull the plug in the middle of using odin. That'll make it not work for sure.

Probably not, unless you had some existing hardware problem or something.
Yea, do an odin pull

You won't get charged as along as you !send the phone back!..
and really..
I have never heard of them charging for a rooted phone.. They reflash it and move on at qa.. They might charge back a percentage of the cost from the rep but not you, the customer, as there is technically no official stance from the company about rooting. Just that, if you have a problem with the device, the next troubleshooting step is to reflash the stock software because you cannot guarantee the same "experience" on a custom rom. And some custom roms remove troubleshooting modes and the sprint version of QPST..
*edit * for the cosmetic damage reference..
Sprint now covers any physical damage except severely damaged LCDs.. As long as its not a purely *cosmetic* repair.. (ie replacing housing for scratches) but as long as there is a stated issue with the device (freezing due to processor damage from a fall) it is covered at no cost if you have insurance.

[Q] G2 Touch Panel Screwed Up

I have a HTC Vision/G2. and my touch panel seems like its not calibrated right. like when i tap on something it thinks i long pressed it. also when i scroll it jumps around alot. It originally did it to me when it was running the stock rom. but i rooted it and flashed a few different roms but it still sems to be out or wack. i have downloaded and installed and tried the HTC Calibration app. still no luck. am i going to have to get a new touch panel or is this a software thing? PLEASE HELP!!!
only thing i can recommend is to try another rom, or perhaps open your phone and reconnect the touch panel ribbons. sometimes resetting the ribbons into the correct position works.
my phone had some problems with sensitivity from a fall and i opened it/reconnected to ribbons and it was fixed.
Where can i get the tool to open it? The warranty is already out so might as well....
How is the warranty out? HTC give 24 month warranty.

Because you have to remove the void sticker to open up your g2 which will remove your warranty. And it comes with only 1year warranty. If I'm not wrong europe is the only continent that have 2year warranty
Sent from my HTC Vision using Tapatalk
well i havent taken the sticker off yet. and there is no water damage. and tmobile said the warranty is out but has the G2 even been out for a year! so im goin to complain.... there is no way this device is a year old!
after 4 calls with customer service I had gotten the OK for a warranty exchange. Going to go to the store and swap out later. Hopefully this one doesn't do the same....

MyTouch 4G to HD2?

I've been seriously considering switching from my mt4g to an hd 2, would I be downgrading by doing this? Is it worth it? I've compared specs of both phones and basically the hd2 wins with the bigger screen and the option of 3 OS's and the mt4g wins with 720p recording and the 4g network. I've seen some really good deals on amazon for an hd2. Also should I buy the unlocked version or settle for the tmobile version?

if you buy one take the tmous version. for flashing roms the 1gb rom are very useful. with the normal version you always need an ext partition on your sd, especially with sense roms.

I did, I can't wait to put dual boot on it, it should arrive in a couple of days, $233.49 used in very good condition...I can't wait! What should I be looking in to while I wait?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
that's a good price. here you can't get the normal version with less rom under $300 used.
Hey i also downgraded from a galaxy s4g to the hd2, man it was well worth it even thought it doesnt have the front camera, you can still do so much with this phone
Congrats are in order I love the hd2 take this from someone who used to work for T-Mobile it's well worth the downgrade!

Ok so I got the phone but the touch screen is un responsive, should I go ahead and return the phoneor is there a solution ? How do I return a phone if I bought it on Amazon?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
Definitely return it if the touchscreen doesn't work. Non-functional or malfunctioning digitizers are a relatively common problem in the HD2, and aren't a very easy thing to fix yourself, or very cheap to have fixed. Definitely get your money back if it's totally unresponsive.

I will have to wait untill Tuesday, I also noticed that the end call key is sort of stuck, it still works but its harder to press, Ive been reading these forums and saw that that may be the problem. Well I ordered a "new" hd2 and returning this one on Tuesday *sigh* more waiting time.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
Yep, that sounds like a damaged digitizer ribbon all right. Man that sucks, sorry bout your bad luck, but at least you have a new one on the way.
Its finally here! Time to get started and this one actually works perfectly!

Just some [Q] about T-Mobile.

I've recently notice dust under my screen and at first I just ignored it but it has gotten worst over time. Now I've had this phone since July (2011) that makes it under a year so I can still have a warranty exchange right? Now would they replace it with a mytouch 4g or would they offer me other types of phones like a mytouch 4g slide? My other question is if they offer me a different types of phones which ones should I not fall for and which ones should I think about I really like the mytouch 4g cause of development so I hope they just replace it and is it better to call or go straight to the store what would be faster? Thanks!
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda premium
I'm not sure that dust under the screen would warrant for a warranty exchange. Anyways, warranty exchanges are for same phone only. I've tried asking for a different phone when I had a Blackberry since I had so many problems. I think I had a good 4 or 5 exchanges in the first year I had it.
nope, actually, a lot of times they offer you a different phone, saying that their MT4G's are "out of stock".
this is just my opinion but,
MT4G Slide: good
LG G2X: eh good enough, your choice if you want a duo core, then choose that
Samsung Sidekick: DEF no way
Samsung Galaxy S: NO WAY, MT4G OWNS THE GALAXY S
HTC Sensation: if you're lucky, then of course, TAKE IT!
hope this helps... those are the phones i've heard of before being a replacement for the MT4G.
Thanks! now I have an idea. Also would it be free for a warrenty exchange?

Yes, warranty exchange is free, BUT you have to pay for the shipping and handling. If I remember correctly, it's $9.99 for 5-7 business days -or- $19.99 for 2-3 business days.
They can be jerks at customer service so be mindful.
They told me that they'd waive the shipping fee because my phone broke within 30 days of buying it.
I've only had the phone for 4 total months now since the original purchase and I'm on my 4th one because the warranty phones are all refurbished junk that someone else sent back. And they are still trying to charge me the $20 shipping fee on each one, after saying they've waived it.
The last one I got was broken out of the box. Had to do a factory reset just to get it to power on. I sent it back, and now they want to add another fee for not accepting it.
When you ask to speak to a customer service supervisor, don't believe their BS story about how their manager just walked into a meeting and they'll call you back. It's a lie. I've asked for supervisors 3 times in this process at various times of the day and amazingly....each time the supervisor had 'just walked into a meeting' like it was being read off a script.
None of them ever called me back.
So they will lie to your face. Don't take any of the BS from the customer service reps. Tell them your phone is unusable because of poor manufacturing and that you're not going to accept anything other than a replacement. Then be aware that you will NOT get a new MT4G. If you stick with the MT4G you WILL get a refurbished POS.
Wow thanks now I'm having second thoughts. I went to the t mobile store instead and they where nice about they said they would replace with a other my4g and said it would be new but I know that's bs now.
Also do you really need to unroot your phone? I just have the stock Rom with non apps that require root permissions? I've heard of people just returning it like that with no problem just want verify. Thanks

Glass lifting

Hey, New here, rooted and unlocked my dhd and had fun trying to get it back stock. I now want to claim it under warrenty because my glass is lifting in the top right corner allowing dust and stuff under the glass, making it really annoying to look at sometimes. I wanted to know if anyone has gotten it fixed or if they are gonna shaft me crying physical dmg? I know there is a thread somewhere on it, I just couldn't find it thru the app.
Thanks, 7
EDIT : sending my phone for repair this week, ill update as I find out, and what happens in the end

Anyone?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 using XDA App
First you need patience. No need to bump your thread after only 3 hours. The glass lifting is a known issue for the dhd, and you shouldn't have a problem getting it replaced
Ok ya sorry for the bump, but that's good to know because telus told me that they usually always fix known issues, if anyone could still confirm for me that would be great cuz I'm going to send it away then on Friday
