So I was talking to Sprint and they finally processed an exchange for my Epic. Problem is, I went to stock with odin and everything is working fine now!! Sadly, the replacement has already been sent out and I'm left with a "good" phone. The problem is now that my phone is working fine what do I do?! I'm really scared I'll get billed 500 for shipping in a non defective phone.

Pretty sure you're going to be fine, as long as there is no cosmetic damage to the phone that they can blame any of your problems on.

Hmm I have some scratches on the side its minor though the silver was kinda chipping off like really minor though.
Would going to DK28 then stock 2.1 create problems with the phone?

Pull the plug in the middle of using odin. That'll make it not work for sure.

Probably not, unless you had some existing hardware problem or something.
Yea, do an odin pull

You won't get charged as along as you !send the phone back!..
and really..
I have never heard of them charging for a rooted phone.. They reflash it and move on at qa.. They might charge back a percentage of the cost from the rep but not you, the customer, as there is technically no official stance from the company about rooting. Just that, if you have a problem with the device, the next troubleshooting step is to reflash the stock software because you cannot guarantee the same "experience" on a custom rom. And some custom roms remove troubleshooting modes and the sprint version of QPST..
*edit * for the cosmetic damage reference..
Sprint now covers any physical damage except severely damaged LCDs.. As long as its not a purely *cosmetic* repair.. (ie replacing housing for scratches) but as long as there is a stated issue with the device (freezing due to processor damage from a fall) it is covered at no cost if you have insurance.

So I've noticed recently that my screen on my CPO X has gotten a faded spot about an inch from the bottom of the screen. It hasn't reduced functionality or anything, it just... urks me, lol. Anyone else have this, and do you think Verizon might help me out? It makes the device significantly less attractive.
D: Also, only visible when the screen is on on a white page, but still.
Haven't over heated the phone once nor dropped it, running SetCPU at 1000 max 600 min.
Running on rooted stock, also.

Same exact problem here. I talked to my guy at verizon and he saidd it for sure falls under a warranty replacement for a refurb phone. But it doesn't bug me enough yet to make me do that. I'll wait until my one year is almost up then replace it.

Yes you should unroot just to be smart about it.
Why would you drop it in water?
So you have to pay the $100 deductible?!?
Either way I think I will pay the 100 dollars... I don't believe I have factory warranty....

You pay the $8 a month right?
That covers manufacturer defects.
Unless they see physical damage, they will cover it.

If you did not physically break the soldering pads off of the board then a sprint repair center will replace your phone for free. If you did then they will tell you to file a claim.

it's not a short term fix, but buy an external charger with a couple of extra batteries from China for $20. It will take a few weeks to get, but I never charge my phone, just switch batteries.

It's not that easy with the tiny boards on cell phones. You would have to be an expert at soldering and have specialized soldering equipment.
Charging port broke on mine also... Called Sprint to ask to replace it. You need to be stern when talking with the rep, this is a known defect of the EVO. And they will replace it at no charge as they did for me. I unrooted and had a replacement within 3 days. Hope this helps.

Unfortunately everyone's experience varies based on the store...even since the policy change.
Since unrooting takes only a few minutes its worth doing.

The port will move reguardless of which condition your port is in. The only way to know for sure is to open up the phone. Which a sprint repair center will do for free for you since you have tep.

I returned 2 phones to a repair center and all I did was flash a rooted stock rom and they replaced two phones due to a charging port no questions asked
My charging port broke, unfortunately my battery was so low I couldn't unroot. Luckily the guy at the sprint store was nice enough to work with me on it anyway and replaced free. He said that they weren't supposed to repair rooted HTC phones (for whatever reason). So hope that you're able to unroot and avoid the hassle.
My charging port also broke. So I took it to my local sprint store and they told me to return it to stock condition and come back. So I hopped on xda and downloaded a couple of things and unrooted it right in front of him on the spot.
I suspected the guy behind the counter didn't mind too much since he was showing me his rooted EVO running CM7. I should have my new phone in a couple of days.

Got to bring the wife's epic into Sprint for a hardware issue. It appears the phone speaker isn't working. Thought it was Cm7 issue but flashed back to stock EL30 (btw thanks to who ever got that for us) with modem still no sound at all. Copied all her data off onto the computer formated the card then copied some stuff back like her pictures and music. Hopefully they won't give me a hard time I am paying for the extended. I am kind of hoping they will offer a upgrade to the touch.
Any suggestions would be grateful.
Good luck!
Gotta figure out the angle to take. Whether to pull a complete phone "What's root? Is that some kind of new Pokemon?" angle. Or the "Yeah I am alright with Android, I just hit a bump. Help me out?"
I usually play stupid. With the added nicety.
You should be fine on the service issue. Good luck on the upgrade attempt.

Our headset speaker broke. I bought another one on eBay, split the display, replaced the speaker and it still didn't work. Took it to sprint, paid $35 and they swapped the entire display /top slider. I know this is unfixable but I want to see if you guys could know why this happened. A few months ago in winter 2012 my sister epic 4G got rained on and her battery is now pink. But nothing happened .now yesterday while she was charging her phone the charger blew and her micro USB port was broke. Just when you think it couldn't get worse when I let her use my battery I turn her phone on and it was bootlooping like crazy. When it finally booted It was stuck in safe mode and when you unlocked the phone it would reboot. I then went into recovery to wipe and it was frozen in recovery. Then when I reboot it (Battery Pull) kept rebooting into recovery. Then I kicked it out of recovery with the home button but the volume keys weren't working in recovery so I couldn't wipe. I think she has major bad luck. I never experienced something like this EVER. She in contract until July 2013 so she can't easily switch. She still in college so she needs her phone. Why do you think all this happened? She is also stock FC09 not rooted.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda app-developers app
Water damage doesn't immediately "show itself" sometimes... probably a delayed reaction to the water damage...
It is also possible the USB port is shorting which caused the charger to blow and the strange behavior. Try with the battery out, clean the phone port with 91% alcohol using a toothbrush. Let it dry for a half hour. Then see if you can get it into download mode and reflash stock FC09 through odin.
Ahh its done no responce with USB At all . Its officially Dead. When I wiggled the USB after cleaning the port like you said to get Odin to see it. No responce. I don't know what to tell her. She's gonna have to find an old sprint phone 1 Less Epic 4G .

from the reports i've been hearing, fixing it yourself is actually more expensive, the $200 charge is cheaper then what the amoled is worth.
I would call samsung for just warranty repair. If internal is damaged but external has no sign of damage, they usually honor the warranty.
This is what I did, I called for warranty repair, they wanted the description of damage. It was pretty much as same as OP problem. They wanted me to send pictures via email both on and off screen. I guess they wanted to see if the glass was undamaged. After few email exchanges, they honored the warranty repair.
I always be blunt and frank with them but try not to be a ****. If you show respect and tell truth, they will be nice to you too.

I didn't pay any. Make sure you tell them external has no indication of any damages. Just keep teeling them that. Tell them digitizer/oled started making weird lines.
AT&T also has 1 year warranty as well so I would try both. But I always get better result straight through manufacturer than carriers.
