Replacement parts - EVO 4G General

Not sure if i posted in the right place but i was wondering if anyone knows where i can get an audio/headphone jack replacement mine is cracked at the top. The only thing i can find are the housing and rear speaker. Any help greatly appreciated.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA

The part that is most likely cracked would be the port on the housing and not the jack itself but if it is the actual jack ita not going to be repairable as it is soldered to the logic board which is done with micro solders which is next to impossible to do by hand

I just noticed a few days ago, that my sound was going in & out or getting staticky while using my Beats...I unplugged it & realized that I have to plug it -just so- so the sound stayed clear. I was hoping I had just improperly plugged it.
So if it's the latter, it's shot with no hope of warranty service/replacement... unless I unroot & reflash the stock ROM, yea?
Discouraging **sigh**

generally i agree with you... but i think that the headphone plug is looked at like the charging port. it is meant to be used and if it breaks they should fix/replace it. They jsut dont want to be replacing phones because of people dropping/throwing their phones. I myself have NEVER dropped my evo and iv had it for about a year and a half.

I agree. My cell is <4 mos old. It is in pristene condition, I have a tank of a case and it has not been mistreated. If I took it back to my cell provider...at the very least...I'd hope they'd try to send it in for warranty (see what happens) and offer me a decent deal for a replacement. I've learned though...that customer/warranty service...does not always work out the way we think it should.
Appreciate the feedback.

if your rooted call them first. then if they say they will replace/fix it you can unroot and get it taken care of. just trying to keep you from unrooting and taking it in if they arent gonna do anything.
and a side note, a headphone jack, hdmi port and charger port are not "physical" damage... technically they are, you can see them, but if damaged/not working it is very unlikely that you did anyhting to it for it to quit working. on older phones, iv had messed up antennas, bad charging ports, headphone jacks with plugs broken off inside, buttons that came off and they either fixed/replaced the phone. They will even replace your battery if it stops holding a charge if its less than a year old (free of charge) unless I just have an awesome repair center in my area that is very customer oriented.

Help...for dummies at home usb port repair

My wiz (which I love) has developed a loose usb port. It is out of warranty (of course!), and it is not the first MDA to have this issue (I returned 3 over that past almost 2 years for the usb coming loose). It has not fallen out yet, but charging is a chore, as I need to have my plug in the usb in a special way to get it to connect and charge.
Long story short...
Is there a physical fix I can do on my wiz? Since it is not under warranty, I am not too concerned about taking my MDA apart...so...
Can someone who has had this issue tell me in a step by step manner, how to take the MDA apart and "tighten" the MDA port???
I am hoping to hold out long enough to get the Kaiser...if Tmo ever releases it.
Thank you in advance.
**I have search this forum and even googled...people list sites for $60-100,or say to take the MDA apart and solder it back...I'm broke and wanna go with the second option, but haven't found a step by step about how to actually take the wiz apart and re-solder the usb port**
I'm gonna be unhelpful so if you want to get mad at me, do it now.
I ask what I'm sure others are asking themselves: WHAT have you been doing to your MDAs where the usb port has been getting loose?! Three times?!
I ask not to be embarassing but to help other users from prevent damage to their devices.

Yes, I am quite pissed at you now...
The first one was a replacement for a crappy refurb they'd sent me, and I sent it back immediately as the port came to me loose. The second one came loose, I believe, just by charging it, syncing it, etc (I went through a phase where I changed OS's every 5 minutes...I am an addict, I admit it). The third one came loose (I suspect) when I was charging it in my car and had to hit the brakes hard, and it went flying to the floorboards. This one I have no clue. It worked fine until 2 days ago. I went to charge it last night and noticed it being VERY tempermental, and a bit loose. I would like to fix it before it gets to the point of being complete crap.
All the rumors say that Tmo USA will be releasing the Kaiser soon, and I really want that phone, and would rather not pay the $100 or so bucks swapping out my MDA through insurance, just to have the Kaiser released 4 days later (Murphy's Law affects me a lot).
So.... Help please!!!!
Ok...so I got my hands on the MDA repair manual...and after some head-scratching my husband and I managed to take the wizard apart. Luckily, only the 4 tiny bracket holding the usb port in broke loose, so it was a matter of soldering them back on. My MDA is back to working again. Yay (and whew!)

I had this same problem... Slamming on the brakes when your MDA is connected to the car charger is never a good idea...
Trust me when I say this though. I wrecked my Integra GSR swerving to avoid hitting a deer. The impact of the car hitting the curb severed all the contacts on the USB port and now the USB port has fallen out of the phone completely...
So all I need to do is solder those 4 connectors and make sure the port is positioned correctly over those 5 tiny connectors and I should be fine? My soldering skills are somewhat sub-par so I don't want to risk it unless I know exactly what needs to be done before I do it. I'm sure you can understand that though.
PS>> I too am only hoping that I can keep my MDA working long enough to get a Kaiser. I have been saving but am not quite there yet...

Well none of my connectors broke...luckily...so on that matter I'm not sure...however, I had my hubby dismantle my MDA (which I won't lie, was a real b*tch...you think you're breaking it) just to when the port was exposed...he then readjusted the 4 connectors then using silver solder and a gun, made 4 pinpoint attachments. Be very careful...he let the gun get too close and slightly melted the plastic down by the battery release tab...no real damage, but if you aren't careful...
Hopefully someone can better answer you about the procedure...as I said, mine had only come loose and didn't actually break yet.
Good luck on the Kaiser...I'm saving too!!!

Thanks. I'm going to take the chance and attempt soldering it back in place and just leave the 5 pin connectors touching where they're supposed to be soldered to. It's already broken and won't even hold a charge right now so really I have nothing to lose. Worst comes to worst, it won't work after I'm done but then again, it doesn't work now.
Wish me luck!!

let me know how your repair attempt goes. I'm in the exact same situation. Mine isn't completely broken, but it takes LOTS of fiddling to get it to charge, and I can't get an activesync connection at all. Because it still charges, though, I'm guessing that its not completely broken off which will make my repair job slightly easier....

USB Port broken?

Has anyone elses USB Port broke?
Mine won't charge anymore, it wiggles like crazy. It sucks that I just rooted. I'm unrooting now so I can bring it into Sprint. They said if it's a Warranty issue they will replace it for free. I have just heard horror stories about the build quality and screens getting worst, more light leakage and screen separation. I have minor light leakage, but no screen separation.
If I do a NAND backup, reroot the new phone and then install the backup, will it work or will it be tied to hardware?
EDIT: Before it was charging, now it isn't. Hopefully I can connect it to my PC so I can unroot it.
I have the same issue with the charging/USB cord that came with the phone. The spare micro USB cord that I keep at work isn't like this, however. Before you replace the phone, make sure it isn't the cord.

I unrooted it, found the stock rom in zip form and moved it to the SD card. It still has my custom name instead of sprint on there I did with CDMA Workshop (oops!) They sent me to the repair facility 20 miles away, took a look at it and the USB Port completely snapped. They gave me some batteries and I'm waiting for my replacement.
Can't charge or mount... Going to see if I can reroot and put setcpu on there so I can underclock and set the screen to lowest to hold me over for awhile.
EDIT: Dang, flashing stock unrooted it. Oh well.
I toasted my micro usb port last night. Working on repairing it currently. The port it's self is DONE. Ordered a new one, but have already cleaned up the board in preparation.
It sucks working in such small areas. It really really does.

Just solder it back on?
Has anyone returned their Evo? Is it true they just want the phone and I can keep the charger/battery? If so I'll be happy Just sucks that my phone is now unrooted and I need to let two batteries last until the next few days.
Anyone nandbackup to a different device? I did a titanium backup + nandroid before I restored my phone. Hopefully I can either nandroid the new phone and be set, or worst case reroot and titanium restore.

The port is too hosed up to just solder it back on. I tried w/ rework station, and I tried manually.
Just too much damage to the port casing that I can't straighten out....

Take it back, it's under warranty. I flashed stock and then went to the Sprint store. I'm just pissed that this, the screen & light leakage issue are wide spread.
Mine was fine, a little light leakage with no screen movement. I hope the new one is a new build and fixed. If I get a different/worst screen I'll be pissed.

Sprint will have nothing to do with any warranty. The phone was fine until the usb port pulled out. Sprint is also not my carrier, and i've since modded the phone's hardware. I'm in the process of making the 4 buttons on the bottom light up blue. I've got the LEDs prepped, I just need to figure out which way they go on It's my "production" phone, so I can't really have a lot of downtime on it, either.
I've got a really dirty hack on it right now to keep it charged, but it's got wires coming out of it lol. My poor phones on life support
I have a problem with mine too now, I swear that micro USB is the worst thing that happened for technology
10000 connects/disconnects is a complete lie

Theres another thread about it here:

too bad they cant be merged.. but i think this thread should be closed since it has less information.
I have a feeling this problem is going to become very common amogst the EVO's... its like HTC is turning into the Toyota of phones

My X10 is dying

I fear a sad day will come soon when my x10 will be unusable. The main current problems are broken in-ear speaker, meaning i have to use speakerphone or bluetooth for calls, and charging the phone has become a pain after while being plugged in to my laptop and falling off the side it has to be maneuvered to one direction to stay on. Luckily i have an upgrade due soon but i dont want use it until the right phone comes out, and especially with gingerbread coming soon.
I dont drop it often and im sure an iphone wouldve perished under the same conditions which is why i hope to keep it alive as long as possible, has anyone ever fixed any of these problems by any chance?
have you tried CPR?

warranty is a no go as a very brief splash coloured the water damage area, im not sounding like i look after it very well but i have had it 18 months now, il get back to any of you if it does give up eventually. I did laugh at those pics though, no offence taken.
woke up today to 3 blinks if the red led, thought it was over but after a little stint in the wall charger, it started to charge again, whew, close call, ironically today is the first day i can upgrade.
Why don't you upgrade then ? Do you like the Arc or other phones ? If you are fond of the phone, I'm sure you can find a shop that can fix the issues cheap if you care to wait a day or so, maybe even faster.
Anyway, just to be sure, make a backup of your contacts and photos while you still can.
i actually have upgraded now, wanted to wait and see what the duo was like but even when i managed to get the battery to 100% it was flat in 6 hours, most of the time in my pocket (i can usually get a full day out of it) Went with the arc, love the design and hopefully it will be updated better than the x10 was.

Please help me understand wtf is Asus telling me?

Hey guys. Bit of a weird scenario for ya. Maybe you can provide some insight.
A few weeks ago i brought a 300 into my local Memory Express to have the audio jack fixed, the casing around it broke and one of the audio channels wasnt working properly. (Like how a broken headphone jack connector or shot headphones might sound)
MX said that it was physically damaged and yes, upon inspection you could see a crack in the casing. Great, theres the cause, lets get it fixed!
So we send it off to Asus RMA and this is the response we get back:
We have received a TF300 from Memory Express for serviced. Please note that due to the drop, we would have to charge CID feeds to the LCD, Motherboard and casing. The cost of the repairs exceed the cost of a new unit. Please advise the customer to purchase a new unit instead. If the customer agrees, we will ship the defective unit back.
Best regards,

This is the response MX got back from Asus. WTF does it mean? There WAS some damage on the corner (it had been dropped) but it was isolated to the corner nowhere near the headphone jack, mostly just astetic. Could Asus think we wanted the screen replaced? Or does it really cost $500 to change out a headphone jack? Im so confused right now, if anyone could provide some insight i would really appreciate it.
Attached picture is of the headphone jack and you can see the cracked housing. Is this a common problem? You can also make out the minor damage in the corner above the jack.
Oh, also, does anyone know where to find a teardown of the 300 similar to that of the 201? Google is giving me teardowns of the dock but not of the tablet itself.
Asus is telling you that it was the drop which broke the jack. And if they would repair it all(Including the case it would cost more than a new one.

whats it mean about the CID feeds? I dont understand how replacing a $5 part costs $500
It sounds like you just need to call asus for further clarification. Its kind of a mute point to post this on here because there's nothing anybody here can do for you short of walking you through the repair yourself. That's what asus said, and if u don't understand, ask them. Its possible that upon inspection of the damage, they may think that the damage is related to the drop. We can all speculate but only asus is going to have the explaination u are looking for. Doesn't mean that you will like or agree with it.
Ya i guess so. Im just really pissed off about this.
So this isnt a common issue then, the headphone jacks breaking?
never heard of it till now, so seems not to be a factory issue.
CID= Customer Induced Damage. In other words its your fault, and not theirs. I just went through this with a cracked screen, and yes it was my fault. But after dealing with Best Buy corporate Best Buy sent me a check for the cost of the repairs, and then when it was fixed they allowed me to return it for a full refund.
So if you caused the damage yourself then Asus is not gonna pay for the repairs. Contact them and explain that you only want to let the jack repaired, if they don't want to then you could try to fix the problem yourself (warranty already gone) . I think your problem lays in a broken/damaged solder on the jack/board. There's a Topic from someone who removed the backcover. You can easily access the jack on the board and resolder the connections with a good solder-iron!
http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/7640/005esp.jpg
I feel your pain, brother. I have the same problem with my audio jack, they use cheap plastic for the headphone jack so with a little pressure it can snap off. The design choice is terrible to be honest, unless you're completely careful with it to the point where you cant even drop it a little bit.

i was thinking that, should be an easy fix, hopefully i can convince them just to replace the audio jack and not worry about the rest of it.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions and support, i will let you know what happens!
Asus is telling you they do not do board level repairs.
asus only changes modular parts ie. main board, display, battery, case, power supply, cable.

[Q] Need advice on warranty: loudspeaker oil damage

I have an at&t galaxy s4 that's still under warranty for another couple of months. Recently, I made the mistake of placing my phone on a kitchen counter with a few drops of oil (room temperature) on it. I noticed it as soon as I picked the phone back up, and the oil definitely crept into the phone's loud speaker at the back. Luckily, this is the only part of the phone that it got to.
The loudspeaker sounds much worse now - not so 'loud' any more, and sounds very muffled. It is definitely damaged. I've set the phone in a cup of rice, although I'm not really sure how effective this method will be for oil. Is there anything else I can do to fix the problem myself?
If not, what I'm wondering is if at&t/samsung will have a way of finding out that it was damaged by oil (liquid); because if they do, I will get charged full price for whatever replacement they send me.
Any tips on how to proceed?
Rubber isn't going to do any good. I would try push and hold a paper towel against the speaker and hope out wicks the oil away.
In regards the Samsung/at&t, of course the should charge you. You did the damage why should they have to pay

Rubber? Not sure what you mean there ...
Regarding the warranty, let me elaborate the reason why I'm considering whether to send it in or not:
If at&t/samsung decide that my phone is not covered under the warranty, their course of action is to return my phone to me, un-repaired, and charge me full price (read: $579) for a certified replacement S4 (read: not brand new, without battery or cables or chargers) that they will have sent me before hand. I hardly think that this fair. I'm not saying it's not my fault that the speaker is damaged, but I'd at least like to find out what the chances are of getting this minor issue fixed under warranty without having to shell out full price for a re-certified replacement of a year-old phone.

So apparently at&t has Device Support Centers where I can take my phone in, and they'll diagnose it on the spot and let me know if my warranty will cover it or not. I'll keep you guys posted on how that goes ...
