I fear a sad day will come soon when my x10 will be unusable. The main current problems are broken in-ear speaker, meaning i have to use speakerphone or bluetooth for calls, and charging the phone has become a pain after while being plugged in to my laptop and falling off the side it has to be maneuvered to one direction to stay on. Luckily i have an upgrade due soon but i dont want use it until the right phone comes out, and especially with gingerbread coming soon.
I dont drop it often and im sure an iphone wouldve perished under the same conditions which is why i hope to keep it alive as long as possible, has anyone ever fixed any of these problems by any chance?
have you tried CPR?
jk..
if its hardware related try to bring it to your service center. maybe your warranty will cover it.

The usb is soldered to the main PCB.
there's a separate PCB board with the USB connected to it http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tGMqxM4Nj...MDCZo/s1600/Droidangel_XperiaX10_Charging.jpg

warranty is a no go as a very brief splash coloured the water damage area, im not sounding like i look after it very well but i have had it 18 months now, il get back to any of you if it does give up eventually. I did laugh at those pics though, no offence taken.
woke up today to 3 blinks if the red led, thought it was over but after a little stint in the wall charger, it started to charge again, whew, close call, ironically today is the first day i can upgrade.
Why don't you upgrade then ? Do you like the Arc or other phones ? If you are fond of the phone, I'm sure you can find a shop that can fix the issues cheap if you care to wait a day or so, maybe even faster.
Anyway, just to be sure, make a backup of your contacts and photos while you still can.
i actually have upgraded now, wanted to wait and see what the duo was like but even when i managed to get the battery to 100% it was flat in 6 hours, most of the time in my pocket (i can usually get a full day out of it) Went with the arc, love the design and hopefully it will be updated better than the x10 was.

Totally Agree
donno what to say, but i admire your courage and 4000+mA batter(ies) XD
OMG!
LMAO. This totally cheered me up! Why would you want to downgrade to the official HTC version after this contraption?!?
Hehe funny... but no thanks, i definitely prefer swapping my 3 batteries than having them stick out together
Must way a ton with those on it, also a bit uncomfortable to hold?
for me there is no real noticeable difference, weight or feel in hand although I only usually hold the HD2 by gripping both long edges in my hand, theres enough free space within my hand so that the batteries do not touch my palm still, the HD2 is a pretty heavy phone anyway

Since reading this thread I've been having a very strange problem with my HD2, it won't quit vibrating.
Whats the battery life ?
I'd love to know what it is after HEAVY WiFi usage is !
they wont let you on a plane with that!! lol
wow, u must have more money than brains to do that to a hd2. ouch!!
I applaud your ingenuity but your phone now does looks like an explosive device .
I love the idea of extended battery life, and if you're sure it's not gonna blow, then I don't see a problem with it However do be careful just in case something somehow short-circuits...especially inside your pocket Plus that phone's gotta way quite a lot...WAY more than old touch pro 2
The Great Lord Cthulhu Managed to kill the phone anyway
I had a lightning storm (blackout, flickering power) whilst I was charging it and the USB connection broke (no charging or syncing)... so frantically I re-flashed it using the SD card to Telstra stock, and Telstra are replacing it under ELF... suckers.
This whole scenario has put me off doing this again, although I may attempt a SIMILAR hack again, I still have the batteries, except isntead of piggybacking the battery input I may just make it an "Auxilliary battery" that powers the unit via the usb port.
More dollars than sense?
nah, phone cost me nothing (work), and batteries were $10 from china
Wiring was all soldered correctly and insulated from shorts, none of this dodgey stuff that turns my phone into a grenade.
I'm swapping my damaged Evo, tomorrow, for a refurbished model. The screen on mine is damaged, so I called the store and told them I heard they'd replace the screen for free if I had TEP (which I do). They don't have any screens, but asked me to bring it in anyways...they looked it over and said they'd replace it for free. The "new" phone is supposed to be here tomorrow. Now, having heard some of the horror stories, I told them I'd want to look it over first...anything in particular I should look for, outside of light leakage? I've had no problems with my phone, and I'd rather replace the screen myself, if the alternative is getting a refurb that I'm not going to be happy with.
Stick the USB in and wiggle it to make sure it isn't loose. Make sure power button is not cracked or the camera lens. That's about all I'd check for.

How exactly would you do that?
Make sure it is a 003/004, not a 002 HW Revision.
Check for cracks on power/volume rocker.
Test 4G if possible to make sure RSA key is not busted.
Ask sprint to test the battery at the store..

Things to check for, tech should do it first but better safe than sorry,
1)microphone
2)earpiece
3)speakerphone
4)GPS/4G
^^ most common issues I see with exchanges, if it doesn't get reported as being damaged when they send it in.... it doesn't get fixed.
id check for:
-flash+camera is working
-speaker working and not busted!!!
-power button is not cracked
-mic is working
-all the functions on the phone works. (gps, 4G!!!!!!, haptic feedback, screen sensitivity etc...)

Techs don't test DHRPs. UPS drops them off, they scan them into inventory, they go in the cabinets and they don't come back out until they're needed. It's rare for the phone to even see the light of day until it's being swapped onto an account.

Thanks, everybody. I'm going to be a little paranoid about this phone, even if it works fine, for at least a couple of weeks. I really wish they'd just swap out the screen, but oh well...
Thanks again!
Im on my second replaced furbed phone. My ORIGINAL phone the haptick feedback stopped, then the first furbed it wouldnt allow me to download apps, and havent Tested the new one yet since i was waiting for my Zagg shield. So we will see how this one does. LOL
Picked up the refurb earlier today, and so far so good. No light leak, the mic, speakers, camera, and everything else works as it should. I'll give it a couple more days, to make sure all is as it should be, then I'll root it.
Nice to have a screen that works again!
Hello all,
Sadly my X10 has came to the same fate as my previous X10 and my USB port on the phone has came loose from the PCB.
If people are stuck at this point and would just like a working phone and are currently happy with the way the phone is functioning then this can help you.

I am currently running z's 2.2 back on my 48 baseband so my upgrades are limited and money is extremely tight so a new phone and experimenting with this phone is out the question!

So I guess this microUSB problem happens quite often with X10i, since it happened twice to you and my phone is sent to service for the same reason.
Yup apparently Ive heard it quite a lot
hmm but i dont think opening the back of the x10 over and over again to eject the battery solves this... after a while your backcover is broken too

This is for people who can't afford to splash out on a new/working phone for various reasons.
My back cover has been off countless occasions and it doesn't even have a crack etc
I am currently under contract and a few other issues which means I either by a new X10 or live with the phone I have
Atleast this way I still have a working phone for the remainder of my contract.
I've lost my cover 3 weeks ago (i've gotten a new one recently) but if you are afraid of breaking the cover the phone is perfectly usable without it. And it is hard plastic but it does wear out.

You'll still have a phone with limited functionality. You still can't install custom roms and if the phone gets bricked, it won't do no good. But it's still better than nothing. Great find OP.

I still have a wee bit of upgrading capability through xRec just limited by baseband
But it's a very cheap fix so who can complain
Phew I am not the only one. My phone stopped charging a while ago and I wonder what was wrong.
My phone is still well in warranty.... Do the SE centers care if I rooted my phone or not?
Yup, my X10 USB connector partially stopped working too, 2 days ago. Connected to PC nothing happens but it can be charged via AC charger. However it charges extremely slowly, maybe even slower that it was via PC. It takes at least half of a day to charge whole battery if not all day. I'm afraid it's going to stop charging completely. Considering fact that I don't have a warranty and it is a fairly new phone I have to think of that solution too. I was messing with it pretty hard, and now I'm stuck on 2.1.54 baseband, not that bad but... Even with that I will be limited to much to feel ok with it. Need a new phone, definitely not Xperia. It could happen again. If not that I would be fully happy with it.
After reading all this, i decided to break the two "anchors" of the mini (or micro or whatever its called) usb which hold the cable in place so it can not be disconnected accidendly from the phone..
Now it is much easier to connect and disconnect the phone without having to fear that it might break somehow after putting to much strength when disconnecting the cable.
Hope this will help us not having to worry too much about breaking the usb!
+1... Same problem here... 1 month of use... same as diament... just charge and slow... USB for transfer is gone...

If you have a lot of mental strength and steady hands there is a way to bypass and solder on a usb lead to the x10.
Last week when charging my phone, it slipped off my desk and something happened inside the phones USB port. The little metal contact was moved out of place. I could still charge, but it had to be at a certain angle and if I picked it up it stopped charging.
And this morning, I broke it even more. I dropped it into a bowl of milky cereal. I didn't think it would be too bad. I wiped it down and I've been using it fine all day at college. But I've just got home and went to test if it still charged. On my own little USB cord I had from elsewhere it didn't work, but on the official LG one it worked after a LOT of shuffling around and changing the angle.
I'm gonna leave it as it is to make sure it doesn't stop charging, because I don't have a wireless charger handy.. I would also prefer to get the official orb from Google, because I don't want to spend a lot of money of something that doesn't work very well.
I was wondering if there is a way to fix this myself, or can I get a replacement from Google/LG?

I'm actually quite careful with my phone! It's just very smooth and slippery..
I would call them and tell them it no longer charges.
See what they say. Worst thing they do is say not covered.
I would omit the milk and dropping parts.

So if I just say it's stopped charging, they might be kind a send a replacement without any hassle? Or would I have to return the device?
There is no need to leave a post in the respective thread if you are reporting something. Please stick to the topic guys.
Um so about a month ago i was charging my Note and I placed it on my desks keyboard slide-out tray but the Note fell and landed directly on the charging port with the cable plugged in and it looked like it bent the port internally since the cable no longer sits flat or stiff. I am willing to open the device and fix it since my warranty is shot since I rooted it lol. What do you guys suggest?

well, I think your options are probably pretty limited. Personally i would probably give it a shot, but you could also send it in to evga and pay for them to fix, probably $100+ or bring it to a local place to try it?
