i think if i do this, i rewrite my rom and i can not boot after this.
are u sure, if this correct operation?

1 - do a cwr full backup (cwr - backup and restore - backup)
2 - flash the new rom as mentioned above, 9 times in 10 it will work fine, no data loss.
if it doesn't boot after the update
3 - in cwr do a 'wipe data factory reset'
4 - flash new rom - let it boot all the way to the android welcome screen, then reboot into cwr
5 - in cwr - backup and restore - advanced restore - restore the sd-ext and data partitions.

its not a new rom. Its camera and browser update. Just 3mb.

Then follow the same steps but instead of wiping everything just flash the update file . Like in CWR choose install zip from sd card . then choose the zip which you just downloaded and flash it .
its actually really simple .
1. Boot into recovery
2. Choose "Install zip from sd card"
3. then "Choose zip from sdcard"
4. Choose the zip file which you just downloaded . the one that has the camera and browser update in it .

oh right, i see now, that option 'flash update.zip from sd' in cwm, , you don't need that one, a normal install zip from sd will do fine, without wiping anything.

Yes it will overwrite your original wmobile rom as booting winsows mobile 6.5 from magldr is not supported yet. You can boot only to windows phone 7 or android. It will not brick your phone it is just bootloader on the top of original bootloader for hd2.

I am also wish to perform an update like the thread starter but I have read from the developer's thread mentioning that I need to reflash the file flash.cfg with a new partition before applying a new update. Would it clean my previous setting of the ROM if I flash a new flash.cfg? Or I still have to go through flashing the entire ROM again? I had previously flash 2 updates on my ROM and noticed a drop in performance speed. I had to do a task29 then reflash back the ROM to get the initial performance speed. Would appreciate anyone's help.

when you flash flash.cfg, you are re riting all teh partitions, so they will all be empty, so you need to do a full backup, flash the new rom, let it boot all teh way first boot, turn off, into cwm, backups and restore - advanced restore - restore sd-ext and then restore data.

Rooted the N1 - Now What?

After lurking forever I finally pulled the trigger and rooted my N1. Painless.
Fastboot to unlock the bootloader - Check
Flashed Amon_RA recovery image - Check
Created nandroid backup - Check
Flashed nexus-addon-0.1-signed.zip - Check
Confirmed su working - Check.
Now what? Is it just as simple as putting a new ROM on my SD and reflashing?
Or do I need to do it through adb?
I know each of them seem to have different instructions. Some need you to wipe before, others you can flash over the top of your existing ROM.
Is there a standard way that works across all ROMS when it comes to flashing? Should there be to make is easy for the rest of us?
Thanks in advance.
Put a rom in and flash from recovery!
Shouldnt be too hard as you have gotten mostly everything done already! I would recommend trying out the Desire rom from MOdaco! Check the development section. download it and try it for yourself and or Cyanogens Rom!!!!

Welcome to the world of root! Congrats!
Always back up first, then wipe, then flash the .zip from the root of the phone. That way you can restore if you futz it up. It's that easy.
Usually when you're upgrading a Rom with a new version the person has put out you won't need to wipe, example going from Cyanogen 5.0.3>5.0.3.1 but if you're using different peoples roms you'll always need to wipe. Sometimes you will for an upgrade and the dev will state this, just always read their instructions and always backup before flashing anything. Have fun

Thanks for the input. Just a few more questions:
1 - If I do a nandroid backup won't that overwrite the last backup? Can I rename the nandroid folder on the SD card before doing another backup?
For example, I currently have a backup of the stock rom. Can I rename the nandroid folder on the SD card to something like "/nan_bu_stock" before I run another nandroid backup?
2 - Then I select the wipe option from the RA's recovery correct? This won't wipe the SD card too will it, just simply wipe the device back to 'factory' correct?
3 - Then do I place the new ROM .zip file on the root of the SD card or the root of the device? I'm assuming I select the RA 'flash from .zip' option to flash the new ROM correct?
Thanks

No, it wont overwrite it, it will create a new folder with the latest backup and the folders will be named depending on the date. such as 2/25 with a whole bunch of letters. you can also rename it from the sd-card
Answer 2 - no it wont wipe sd card.
Answer 3 - you place it on the root of the sd-card!
And finally....
After the .zip from the new ROM is on the root of my SD card I use the 'flash zip from sdcard' option ?

It is as easy as that, but make sure you wipe first else you will likely get errors, enjoy CyanogenMod.

[Q] please help regurding the clock work mod recovery

Hello every one. im using hyperdroid cm7 rom, i just flashed it two weeks ago with the MAGLDR 1.13 and the clock work mod v1.3_150MB but now im having a problem with clock work mod recovery and that is when i try to load the clock work mod recovery it says "invalid image" something like that and it dosent load the clock work mod recovery and goes back to the MAGLDR1.13 menu so how i should deal with it should i re-flash the clock work mod 1.3_150mb recovery? and if i do this will i have any problem with the rom or will lose any thing? please help me and thanks in advance to all.....
Wow 40 views not a single reply i think i asked a wrong question....
I would reinstall CWM. Be sure to install the CWM recommended by the Rom's chef as they can be different partition size. You should not loose your data by reflashing CWM. I believe the partition you are looking for 150M. Here is a link: http://www.multiupload.com/41E9UMRO45
Yea re flashing cwm will wipe all the nand partitions because they are all re created empty. If you have been using an ext partition you can save the contents of that, I.e your installed apps, , and if the rom you were on put the whole data part there you can maybe save your data too, tho I suspect you will have to bite the bullet and start from scratch.

I do not really understand your problem...
Why do you go into CWM if you already loaded the ROM and using it successfully?
What do you want to do??
To get to CWM, go to Magldr select option 5 I believe (Recovery) press GREEN (call) button and you'll get CWM menu.
Does that answer your question?
Recovery is option 8.
I assume the issue was created be cause you tried ROM Manager with MAGLDR, it will mess up your phone. (use ROM Manager only with cLK Bootloader)
thanks

[Q] Can i repair cwm recovery?

Hello,
Ive magldr cwm recovery installed, and a magldr NAND rom.
Yesterday i tried to play with rom manager.
I didnt know it only work with clk, and i made the mistake to update recovery throug rom manager.
So it broke my MAGLDR cwm recovery :-(
My question is : can i repair my MAGLDR cwm recovery without wiping my rom?(because i didnt recently do a nandroid backup)
Thx for your help.
Unfortunately, no you can't.
The only way to fix your cwm is to re install cwm. And that will wipe off your rom, data and everything else.
Edit:
wow, i never knew about that !

We are just writing an image to the already created recovery partition,, not using daf to write a partition layout. It's just like flashing a rom, but only the recovery partition is affected.
In the android nand section, titled something like "clockworkrecovery, nand,SD, ver 5.0.2 yes/no stable" or something, (currently top post
Get both
recovery_5.0.2.6_leo_sd.zip (3.93 MB, 1153 views)
and
recovery_5.0.2.6_leo_CWR.zip (4.25 MB, 3415 views)
Extract and copy the SD card ver onto SD card (copy the two files to SD, done)
And then copy the whole cwr.zip to SD card too.
Then, into magldr, "ad SD" will boot into the cwm files you placed on SD, and choose instal zip from SD,,, choose zip,, and select the cwm.zip you also placed on SD.
This will write the cwm image into the recovery partition without reflashing the cwm partition layout, so nothing lost.
it worked
thank you for your help and your very precise explanations
welcome. Its worth leaving those two files on the SD in case recovery fails for whatever reason, since you can backup and restore just like in nand cwm recovery.

i could not get into the CWM menu, but with your help i was able to flash to a new custom rom.

Writing recovery partition...
assert failed: write_raw_image("/tmp/recovery.img", "recovery")
E:Error in /sdcard/recovery_5.0.2.6_leo_CWR.zip

Any help?
Perhaps the recovery partition is too small? Perhaps you don't have a recovery partition? Check the flash.cfg you last used for partition sizes you used.
Alternatively, use the SD cwm to make a backup and do a fresh flash.

I have the same error as the person above you. Do you recommend using the SD cwm to flash Recovery_150M_system_44M_cache[v3.0.2.4].zip? I cannot recall what flash.cfg I used.
I think I may have no recovery partition if I recall correctly. I digged through my old files I think this was the flash.cfg I usd:
misc ya 1M
recovery rrecov|ro|nospr filesize recovery-raw.img
boot yboot|ro 5M
system ya 150M
cache ya 44M

I had the same error. I made a copy of the recovery_5.0.2.6_leo_CWR.zip and copied my original CWMRecovery's recovery-raw.img on top of the new zip's recovery_leo.img file. That got me past the error and AD recovery works now.
Thanks for that just fixing mine as well now

Simple please because i dont know much...if it possible to copy the file at sd and just press the sd install from the recovery ...
Do you have the cLK bootloader installed? If you don't, you can't use ROM manager properly on the HD2.
However, I'd suggest downloading the ROM you want from the browser, booting the HD2 into MAGDLR--> recovery, and installing from there. [ That is assuming you using MADGLR, which I'm assuming you are].

Wipe data/cache/dalvik from cwm and install rom.

When you boot up your phone, do you see a cmd-like screen showing some text after the htc screen? If so, you are using MAGLDR. Otherwise, cLK.
yes there is one...like some comand are runing and writes "ok" "done" and after that is the android logo..
so
wich rom is the best fit to hd2 and how to i put it in?
Is this the way? "Wipe data/cache/dalvik from cwm and install rom" and if so the file with the rom i put it on sd card root?or in a folder?

The best ROM depends on what you like. I'd suggest using Tytung's NexusHD2. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434860
So, to install this ROM, you need to-
1. download the ROM and put it on your SD card. Just download it from your PC and drag it onto the SD card root, not in a folder. [it doesn't matter that much, but it's easier to just have it there instead of in a folder].
2. Boot into MAGDLR. Do this by holding the volume DOWN button and end call button at the same time while booting the phone.
3. In MAGDLR, scroll down into AD Recovery. From there, wipe data/factory reset, then install the .zip from SD card. Reboot your phone and enjoy the new ROM.

Yes this is mostly right but:
1. Use the app Titanium Backup to create a backup of all your apps and data on your SD card
2. To boot into MAGLDR hold down the power button, not volume down
3. Before wiping data I would recommend creating a full backup of your ROM in CWM, just in case
Also, you may need to repartition your NAND if necessary. Look in the first few posts of any ROM you decide to flash, it will at some point tell you what size 'system partition' you will need to create. If this partition size is less than or the same as 150Mb, you don't need to change anything. If, however, it is larger than 150Mb do the following:
1. Download and install the NAND Toolkit
2. Boot into MAGLDR menu then select 5. USB Flasher
3. Select 'MAGLDR repartition' in the toolkit
4. Select the correct partition size from the options given in the toolkit
5. Repartition
6. Flash your ROM (as a .zip) in CWM
7. Reboot, then reboot another few times just to be safe
8. (Optional) Restore your apps by downloading Titanuim backup, then pressing menu>batch>restore all missing apps and data.
Hope this helps

[Q]Magldr. Intall An android ROM over an other Android ROM

Hello, i have htc hd2 and i already intallled this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1209474
Now, i want to update this ROM to this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1662881
But i dont know how, i have magldr installed on my device, 2.08 spl and the proper radio. I dont really know if i first have to uninstall the current android i have(i dont know how either) or if i just flash it on top of it. Another question i have is how to flash a rom that comes on a zip file from magldr. Because i installed the android that i currently have with an .exe that came inside the rom i downloaded.
Thanks, i hope i can get this solved asap.
You don't need to uninstall your current ROM, but you have to install CWM first with the correct partition size. After that, boot into cwm by selecting option "8. AD Recovery" and then "install zip from sdcard" and choose the ROM you downloaded as a .zip .. and you should be good to go.
If you need elaboration, you can follow this tut: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16528026&postcount=7
Keep in mind you have to modify "Step 8" & "Step 10" according to your ROM.
Also, if you installed your first rom using daf.exe some time ago there's a good chance you don't have magldr 1.13.
You can tell by looking at the magldr menu screen at the top, or by looking at option 8,, if option 8 ISN'T "ad recovery" then you need to upgrade magldr. (Well, technically you don't, but its way easier if you do)

I installed my previous rom with daf.exe. I have to install CWM now, i have magdlr 1.13, so i can do it. But i read this:
"WARNING MESSAGES:
GOING FROM A DAF FLASHED ROM TO A RECOVERY FLASHED ROM WILL WIPE ALL DATA
IF YOU FLASH ANOTHER ROM USING DAF, RECOVERY WILL NO LONGER WORK CORRECTLY, YOU WILL NEED TO REFLASH RECOVERY"
I didnt understand what it meant with "wipe all data". Is there any chance to brake my device?
Thanks
It just means that the apps and data on your current ROM will be deleted (SD card will not be affected). You can use an app like Titanium Backup to backup your apps and app data then restore them after flashing a new ROM.
I already flashed the rom succesfully, thanks for the help
flashed but reboot failed
Flash was successfull, but first reboot failed. Phone shows the cyanoGen mod figure with an arrow turning around it for ages.
Any ideas how to make it working?

Make sure you setup your partition perfectly as the OP said for your ROM,if u new on this just grabed HD2 Toolkit, try to start all over again.
but if you have settle up your partition perfectly try to go to recovery wipe cache, than wipe dalvik cache and reboot, see if this working, good luck
