[Q] please help regurding the clock work mod recovery - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hello every one. im using hyperdroid cm7 rom, i just flashed it two weeks ago with the MAGLDR 1.13 and the clock work mod v1.3_150MB but now im having a problem with clock work mod recovery and that is when i try to load the clock work mod recovery it says "invalid image" something like that and it dosent load the clock work mod recovery and goes back to the MAGLDR1.13 menu so how i should deal with it should i re-flash the clock work mod 1.3_150mb recovery? and if i do this will i have any problem with the rom or will lose any thing? please help me and thanks in advance to all.....

Wow 40 views not a single reply i think i asked a wrong question....

I would reinstall CWM. Be sure to install the CWM recommended by the Rom's chef as they can be different partition size. You should not loose your data by reflashing CWM. I believe the partition you are looking for 150M. Here is a link: http://www.multiupload.com/41E9UMRO45

Yea re flashing cwm will wipe all the nand partitions because they are all re created empty. If you have been using an ext partition you can save the contents of that, I.e your installed apps, , and if the rom you were on put the whole data part there you can maybe save your data too, tho I suspect you will have to bite the bullet and start from scratch.

I do not really understand your problem...
Why do you go into CWM if you already loaded the ROM and using it successfully?
What do you want to do??
To get to CWM, go to Magldr select option 5 I believe (Recovery) press GREEN (call) button and you'll get CWM menu.
Does that answer your question?

Recovery is option 8.
I assume the issue was created be cause you tried ROM Manager with MAGLDR, it will mess up your phone. (use ROM Manager only with cLK Bootloader)

thanks

[Q] Flashing Clockworkmod on MAGLDR 1.13

Hi All,
I've been looking for an answer and have not found one yet.
I have an existing NAND build (MDJ cyanogen 7) of android that I flashed via magldr 1.11. I know I can update magldr to 1.13 safely without messing deleting the the nand rom i have already. But if I want to install Clockworkmod 1.3 onto the nand will I lose my existing rom need to reflash my rom again or does magldr know to flash clockworkmod onto another area of nand that wont overwrite my existing rom?
also with clockworkmod it says:
Download recovery with partition size for the type of rom you plan on using, see guide below if unsure.
it says to use the 150MB partition just wanted to see if anyone else using mdj's cyanogen 7 is using the same thing?
Your help is greatly appreciated

Yes you will lose your current rom, so do a cwm backup first. After flashing the partition for cwm, you will get a kernel error on first boot, so boot into AD Recovery and restore the boot, system and data backups and all is back to normal. As for the partition size, use the same size as you did for the sd version. The guide suggests a 400mb partition for an unsquashed desire hd build, but I used the 250mb partition on my current rom and all is perfect.
PS! Please don't post questions in the ROM Dev section, there's a reason why there is a Q&A section.

Its so frustrating, why on earth would anybody post a question topic in here when we have dedicated Q&A forum??
It should be obvious to anybody that this is a "dev" forum for posting developments not for asking questions.
Since the rom was originally flashed via DAF, will CWM still allow me to do a backup?
Was hoping for a guide, it's so confusing.
No, from what I understand you don't have CWM installed yet, so you can't use it now. Use titanium backup (market), and then flash cwm so you can use it in the future.

It seems confusing at first but it is not really that difficult.

Correct, on first flash of cwm it will erase all data/roms etc on NAND. You will not be able to backup the rom if it was initially flashed via daf. As StephanV says, use Titanium Backup or MyBackup Root to back up your data/apps etc and you can restore them after.
Once you have cwm installed and have flashed a new rom and set it all up, then you can do a cwm backup.
So if i use cwm then I can only flash zip based roms from that point on? I cant use the daf ones anymore then.
You can still use daf, but each time you run a daf file it will remove the cwm recovery partition and you will need to reflash it to use cwm again.
I'm finding that if i flash cwm ontop of a daf rom the rom becomes unbootable. and the only way to get it to work again is use a cwm version of the rom.

i'm not sure about the rom you are using but i was able to back up a few different roms with cwm which i installed using daf. this is what i did:
1. create a folder on sdcard name "cwm" (you can name it whatever you want). i actually have a folder for each clockwork recovery version.
2. put the zImage and initrd.gz for cwm (version 1.0,1.1,or 1.2) in the folder you just created. (do not flash anything at this point)
3. boot into magldr and go to services, boot settings, ad sd dir and select the directory you just created
4. now in magldr menu boot ad sd, and you should hopefully boot into clockwork
5. go to backup and restore and backup your rom. if you try cwm 1.2 and it doesn't work try 1.0 to back it up, you can then update to 1.2 again and it will still restore just fine.
6. before restoring your rom, install cwm1.3 and choose a partition size bigger than the size of the system.img of the rom that you backed up. clockwork backs up your rom in your sdcard->clockworkmod->backup. it creates a folder with the timestamp.
7. now you can follow the steps from the clockworkmod thread to load cwm1.3 and restore from there.

dont bother 'installing' clockwork, just put the two files on your sd card, then go into your MDJcyanogen rom folder on the PC, open (in notepad) flash.cfg and it will look something like
boot ya|boot|ro filesize+1M boot.img
misc ya 1M
recovery ya|ro 3M
cache ya 3M
system ya filesize system.img
userdata ya|asize|hr allsize
the partitions 'recovery' and 'misc' will allow cwm to work, they arent needed for this rom, they are only there for compatibility however if you plan on flashing to a different rom using sd card/cwm, (rather than simply using cwm to do backups of MDJcyanogen) you will want to edit the
system ya filesize system.img
and maybe set it to one of teh recommended cwm sizes, example
system ya 150M
this is because the original line
system ya filesize system.img
will set a system partition of the same size as the MDJcyanogen system.img, (about 130meg) but if your next rom has a bigger system.img, when you try load it from cwm it wont fit, so wont work. by setting it to 150 (or whatever you want) you are allowing for different size system.img in various roms.
Whenever you flash a nand rom, so long as you edit the flash.cfg and make sure those two partitions, misc and recovery (and maybe cache too, i do) are there, then cwm will work.

AD SD Booting not working :(

Hello,
I have installed Magldr 1.3 + NANRDOID MDJ 2.6 ..
I am unable to go to the boot from ad sd option ... As in if i have to update any .zip file .. and I choose the option for ad sd boot .. it will get stuck in GO GO GO screen ..
Please help me ..
I have used task 29 and installed everything again ..
NOTE : I have installed a new sd card and updated the recover_250 file also.
Thanks ...
Have you installed a CWM 1.3 partition? You need to flash a partition from here to provide you with CWM Recovery. I know you say you have a recover_250 file, but is it the latest version?
To go to CWM you need to select the AD Recovery option not Boot AD SD.

If you are using magldr 1.13 with cwm 1.3 partitions you no longer go to Boot AD SD. To enter CWM you need to go to AD Recovery on magldr menu.
I had the same problem.
but now i have another problem which recovery should i take? 150 250 400???

This depends on what ROM you want to install using CWM. A large ROM like a Desire HD build requires more then a light ROM with only the essentials baked in. If you really aren't sure what to flash just check the guide accompanied with the ROM.
does this mean that I have to install CWM every time i want to install another ROM??

Technically, no. Not unless the partition layouts for the different ROM's you are trying are different and in turn they require you to run DAF (which re-partitions your NAND storage).
If they are the same then your partition layout won't be changed and your recovery partition, which is where CWM resides, won't be affected at all when switching ROM's.
but i could also install the biggest one(400) and everything would work because I can't have a too small partition???
could that work??

Hi,
ROM Manager ONLY works with cLK,NOT magldr.
Use THIS TOOL (Don't forget to thank him)
to re-install magldr
Magdlr is still installed, just Option 8 does not work. Will this reinstall MAGDLR and Clockwork Mod?

Hi,
No memory left means the last version of recovery you installed was smaller than the current one. You need to completely repartition MAGLDR in order to install new version in that case.
Is there an average partition size and cache size? I need to choose?

Hi,
I think you should start the process again from the beginning.
Task 29
Install magldr
Install CWM by using the partition you want for your new ROM.So look at the [OP] of your new ROM, get the CWM partition and flash that.
Then you can go straight to installing the ROM.

[Q]Magldr. Intall An android ROM over an other Android ROM

Hello, i have htc hd2 and i already intallled this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1209474
Now, i want to update this ROM to this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1662881
But i dont know how, i have magldr installed on my device, 2.08 spl and the proper radio. I dont really know if i first have to uninstall the current android i have(i dont know how either) or if i just flash it on top of it. Another question i have is how to flash a rom that comes on a zip file from magldr. Because i installed the android that i currently have with an .exe that came inside the rom i downloaded.
Thanks, i hope i can get this solved asap.
You don't need to uninstall your current ROM, but you have to install CWM first with the correct partition size. After that, boot into cwm by selecting option "8. AD Recovery" and then "install zip from sdcard" and choose the ROM you downloaded as a .zip .. and you should be good to go.
If you need elaboration, you can follow this tut: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16528026&postcount=7
Keep in mind you have to modify "Step 8" & "Step 10" according to your ROM.
Also, if you installed your first rom using daf.exe some time ago there's a good chance you don't have magldr 1.13.
You can tell by looking at the magldr menu screen at the top, or by looking at option 8,, if option 8 ISN'T "ad recovery" then you need to upgrade magldr. (Well, technically you don't, but its way easier if you do)

I installed my previous rom with daf.exe. I have to install CWM now, i have magdlr 1.13, so i can do it. But i read this:
"WARNING MESSAGES:
GOING FROM A DAF FLASHED ROM TO A RECOVERY FLASHED ROM WILL WIPE ALL DATA
IF YOU FLASH ANOTHER ROM USING DAF, RECOVERY WILL NO LONGER WORK CORRECTLY, YOU WILL NEED TO REFLASH RECOVERY"
I didnt understand what it meant with "wipe all data". Is there any chance to brake my device?
Thanks
It just means that the apps and data on your current ROM will be deleted (SD card will not be affected). You can use an app like Titanium Backup to backup your apps and app data then restore them after flashing a new ROM.
I already flashed the rom succesfully, thanks for the help
flashed but reboot failed
Flash was successfull, but first reboot failed. Phone shows the cyanoGen mod figure with an arrow turning around it for ages.

[Q] **** Solved **** Cannot install Nand Roms....

:victory:****** Solved *******
Hi, thank you for all of your help and assistance.
It was all down to selecting the correct partitions (and me getting over enthusiastic in flashing roms and not reading FULLY on how and what partitions are required)
I have used HD2 Nand toolkit, and partitioned MAGLDR, then partitioned SD card within Clockworkmod.
Thank you all again for pointing me in the right direction...
Good Evening All,
I am sorry if this has been covered. I have searched the forums but cannot find an answer.
I have read all the FAQ and How-to's.
I am not an exact newbie, I have owned a HD2 before (about 2 years ago) and could install all sorts of different roms (including NAND)
I have Installed my Radio 2.15.50.14
I have installed HARD SPL 2.08
I have Installed MAGdlr 1.13
I ahve installed clockwork mod recovery 1.3 with 400M
Copied rom to root of SD Nexus HD2 jellybean v1.2 [dataonext]
and I have installed Nexus HD2 jellybean v1.2 [dataonext]
this installed fine,
I then decided to try another,
I downloaded QSEA_JB-MUSIC EDITION_V1 and placed on root of SD,
I booted into Magldr, then into clockwork mod
from here i wipe data, and factory reset,
wipe cache partition
and wiped delvic cache.
Then i install zip from sd card QSEA_JB-MUSIC EDITION_V1
when this is done,
It asks me to reboot,
Then it stays on the boot screen, and the rom does not load.....
I can restore the back up from the original rom install. but whatever rom I install (from Nand rom downloads) none of them install...
Please help...

1-Why? Use the HD2 NAND Toolkit to partition your system according to the developer.
2- Never reboot directly from the "reboot now" option of amarullz's installer. Instead, uncheck the "reboot now" option, click finish and reboot manually from CWM.
(The reboot option somehow makes your rom not boot, at least that happens to me every time)

I don't use magldr, so I am not sure.
But I think you have to "MAGLDR recovery update" first, and then after it finishes you have to "magdlr repartition". Im not sure though.
How do I just install clockwork mod? Without using Magldr?
If I Task29 first,
What's my next step.....?
After Task29 (don't do task29 again) you have to do the following: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25781675#post25781675 until you see the "recovery" .. from there, dont continue to flashing wp7, just put your rom on your sd and flash it from recovery. (don't forget to thank the the one who made the thread/guide)
Don't forget to NOT use 300mb, but use the one written on your rom's thread.

You can't have CWM without MAGLDR. If you've flashed CWM you shouldn't have lost MAGLDR at all, so I don't know what you did wrong. Task 29s are also almost always useless and unnecessary, if a guide says 'task 29' as the first step then usually you can just skip that part. I find that the best guide is the one in my sig, try it out.
