Hi everyone,
I have searched the forum for similar problems but can't find anything. I have my email set to check email every 15 minutes. Even after I delete the emails from my phone, when gmail is checked 15 minutes later, the emails return once again as "new". On the computer version of gmail, the emails are still unread in the inbox.
How can I set the "delete" on the email tab to actually get rid of the email? (preferable send the email to the archive function of gmail)
Thanks in advance.
anyone?????
I have the save problem
Use activesync (with push) instead of POP/imap, works perfectly.
Mine did the same thing until I changed my mail settings to say "delete from server" and also "immediately" if you don't change your delete settings to immediate then it wont actually erase the mail until the next time it connects and downloads it all over again.
GMAIL not deleting - Windows Mobile 6.5
I'm running WinMo 6.5 Cell ROM on a Touch Pro 2 from HTC.
I have exactly the same problem. I delete GMAIL messages from the Inbox on my handset. Next time the phone does a Send/Receive it brings down all the new mail again from the GMAIL server. Basically the handset is not marking mail as being deleted, nor is it marking the mail as read on the server.
I'm using GMAIL in MAPI/SMTP mode on the handset as this is what is accepted by default when setting up the GMAIL account on the device.
I've no experience of using ActiveSync/PUSH for mail. How do you set it up?

I use activesync to download all my messages from google, It also pulled my calendar and contacts to the handset too, I found the instructions by going to: wwwDOTgoogleDOTcom/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138636&topic=14299 (wont let me post outside links, so Dot = .) Also on section 11 before syncing everything, I synced each item individually first then switched them all on as I was getting errors.
ActiveSync and PUSH MAIL for Google Mail is the best alternative for being able to hardly experience inbox and retrieval errors.
to delete emails go into your inbox and when you delete, use the left softkey (the bin icon) to delete and not the sense menu.
Gmail not syncing
I had the exact same issue. I searched forever until I found what worked for me. It appears to be an issue is you restore using nandroid. Here is the link on how to do it.

I am trying to test out my company's first Epic and I put in all the info, email address, domain\user name, password, server address. It accepts my info, I take the defaults of how much data to transfer and frequency, then it brings me to the mailbox. It shows my sub folders to the inbox, it populates my calendar and contacts. It leaves me on the main inbox folder and then a yellow bar comes up " Unable to open connection to server" and nothing populates in my inbox.
My company is on Exchage 2003, I have a vibrant working just fine as well as a HTC evo. I tried with multiple exchange accounts on the same server but get the same result.
Anyone have any ideas ?
Same Problem with Exchange and Epic 4G
We are using Exchange 2003 as well. Contact, Calendar, and other mail folders show up just fine. I can see sent items, deleted items, and all other sub folders. When I try to load the inbox, I get the same error message.
What gives?
I just picked the phone up about 2 hours ago and came right here to figure it out!
My company uses Exchange 2008 and I'm able to connect just fine. So much quicker and easier than the moment.
I had the same problem. I had to go to gmail and import my contacts for hotmail and then sync my phone to the gmail account.
i heard that when 2.2 comes out, the exchange settings would work.
i am only getting 50 of my 812 contacts to import.

I lost about 20 out of 252. So I just went back added the ones I'm missing.
Active sync support with most android phones is very dodgy -- some work and some don't. And I'm not talking about some models over another -- it's a unit specific issue. Some Epics do and some don't. The same thing was happening with the Droid X. The only models that consistently work are from HTC because they have their own active sync program in sense.
no workie, workie, now no workie
So i was here back at the beginning of September. Exchange would not load my inbox, then one day it started working for no reason I could find. I stopped using Moxier Mail and went to the built in email program.
Then two days ago, my Exchange account and another IMAP account I have set up on the mail client disappeared from the phone. NO idea why. My email, contacts, and calendar just vanished.
So I added back my exchange account, contacts and calendar came in just fine. Now my Exchange mail is back to where I was two months ago.
"Unable to open connection to server", that's all I get on the screen for my inbox.
Epic 4G, Exchnage 2003, built in mail client.
So I have a similar infrastructure to you, we run Exchange 2003 currently and have had numerous issues with the Epics. I have a couple tricks that really seems to help (at least in my environment)
1. When setting up the phone make sure the Calendar amount is set to All
2. Setting up the phone over Wi-Fi as opposed to the mobile connection seems to work significantly better.
3. If you have issues with the users calendar 9 times out of 10 its due to corrupt entries which not only cause issues with the calendar syncing, but also consume a huge amount of bandwidth. To correct this create a new calendar in Outlook, go into List view and copy everything from your calendar to the new one. All entries that cant copy need to be deleted. Move all your stuff back from the temp calendar to yours and the issue should be fixed.
I am running the leaked 2.2 on my Epic currently and it does seem to address a lot of the issues the Epic had with 2.1 and Active Sync.
Hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions.
I have just moved up to an HD2 from a Dash 3G and a regular Dash before that. I use GMail through Outlook as my primary personal email source (POP). Since I can't access personal email during the work day, I use my phone's email client to check my GMail. On both of my Dashes, email would come through, I could read it, and then it would sit in my phone's GMail inbox until I downloaded mail via POP into Outlook in the evenings or whenever. On my HD2, however, once I read an email, it disappears from the inbox, is automatically archived on GMail's servers, and will not download into Outlook. I much prefer the way it was handled with my Dashes, but the settings appear to be identical between those and the HD2. Can anyone explain what is happening or help me change the proper settings accordingly? Thanks.

How is this friend ... Can detail ..?
Touchdown does allow hotmail access with push (activeSync) and HTML viewing apparently
But it's not free
For my part I use the 2.2 stock email client extracted from a nexus one to have push mail on hotmail (I have a custom domain), as the htc client isn't able to do it due to a bug (even after the latest OTA). But it is in plain text, no html rendering...

Does it have to be a nexus one? Ive got a stock 2.2 mail app but its hit and miss whether not push works
dunno... But the version I use does push very well (5 accounts on it, all receiving mail in less than 30 sec...)

Latest OTA solved this. However, it's still in plain text.
Yup latest update works with hotmail, however no HTML and also a buggy refresh problem as well.
Not usable for me: looping on the first message, I never get the others...
HTC still got some work on it...
Exchange Hotmail and HTML
Don't waste your time. The exchange hotmail doesn't permit to read html emails.
You'll have to wait that Microsoft update exchange, and if it takes the same time that they took to implement exchange, we'll have to wait 5 or 6 years...
That's completely not true.
Touchdown seems to work with html emails on Hotmail.
So definitively it's an htc issue.

Hi All,
How can I make this update or find info about it?
Just bought the device (had TouchPro before) and found out that hotmail exchange won't work with HTC mail
I need exchange for contacts sync, so I installed the stock android email program like some others.
Having two mail programs isn't really good.
I am very new to this device and android..
Thanks
Eren B.
You'd better use the Mobile version of Windows Live Hotmail which can be accessed here: http://m.mail.live.com
You have to sign in once and after that Android will save your credentials.
I did it also and made a shortcut on my home screen, so when I click on that shortcut, my Hotmail will be loaded. Works fine, better than with the built-in Android Mail client.
Thanks but I can not use the web-version to sync my contacts..
I personally only use the stock email app with 5 hotmail accounts (even on my own custom domain), and no pb to sync contacts.
I simply ignore the htc lame app until they fix it...
What's the status of this issue with the new gingerbread OTA? (can't test it as I'm on a biz trip in the US)

I´ve tried with Hotmail EAS and the new OTA Update today.
It failed for me.
It synced only new emails and after i readed these emails it will never mark as read.
Now i will use Enhanced Email that works fine, i cannot understand where HTC has the problem to fix it
To stop the refresh bug happening change the days to sync from the default 3 days to 1 day.
I use the stock gingerbread htc mail app, push exchange on hotmail and everything works well apart from HTML which annoys me badly.

What will affect this setting exactly : will you still keep the old messages in the phone? Does it just stop to sync the read/deleted status after 1 day old?
My phone is actually using 1 month sync in the stock mail app, but I've seen that the phone keeps all mails forever...
I've tried your settings:
It is OK with mail push indeed, and contacts are OK too.
But I get many sync errors, they last many minutes draining battery, and I've noticed that many times, my read mails are not marked as read on the computer.
=>For me it is still buggy and not really usable.
I'll continue to use the stock mail app. Curently I'm using the froyo one with no pb (except no HTML), does anyone have the Gingerbread one? is it worthy to change?
I use ICS CM9 email (not gmail). Have not found a setting to increase how many emails should be kept in the program. So if I check my emails and have 30 new all the old ones will disappear. There has to be a setting for this? Why can't I have a few hundred emails there?
Would all so like to know this answer please.
Check sync options. And change days to sync from automatic to however long you want messages to show.

There is no "sync options". There is General settings and the email account settings. In email account settings, there is "incoming settings" but no setting for days (for IMAP. it might be if you're using exchange).
My conclusion is that this is not possible to increase from 25 emails for IMAP or POP. Which makes me wonder, how do everybody get by this? Reload older messages all the time? or everybody use K-9?
Android mail programs don't keep email messages.
You should set your mail account for keeping mails
on the server for xx-days before deleting them.
If you open your mailbox on your pc, it will by default
wipe your mails from your server, nd the next time you sync
/check with your phone all older messages wil be deleted

You misunderstand!
Android email program DOES keep email messages stored locally. The ICS Email app keeps 25 emails. When you get new emails it deletes the older ones locally. you can reload them from the server if you have the patience to wait and if you are online.
Is it really only me and REVHE4D in the whole world that are annoyed by this issue?
If I remember correctly, the Samsung email app does have settings for how many emails to store locally.
I have the same issue.. The Samsung ICS email client doesn't work that well for me, it doesn't delete emails properly.
The stock ICS Email app seems to have like no settings. Why don't they just let us use the GApps Gmail client for our own private imap/pop3 servers as well? The interface is slick, its integrated into the widgets/homescreen... It's so stupid that we're unable to add our own personal accounts to it.
No Nick5000, you are not the only one annoyed by this. I am too, especially because I clearly remember that on my old Galaxy S2 when I was running gingerbread, it kept all my emails up to 500. I don't know why they changed it down to 25.
