Good morning friends. I'm not able to get my hotmail email is viewed in HTML format. I can not access the option where it is marked: Just text.
Can anyone help me.
After the experience of e-mail today without HTML is seriously injured.
Accepted options even paid. Since use my hotmail.
I appreciate the help as always.

Touchdown does allow hotmail access with push (activeSync) and HTML viewing apparently
But it's not free
For my part I use the 2.2 stock email client extracted from a nexus one to have push mail on hotmail (I have a custom domain), as the htc client isn't able to do it due to a bug (even after the latest OTA). But it is in plain text, no html rendering...

Does it have to be a nexus one? Ive got a stock 2.2 mail app but its hit and miss whether not push works
dunno... But the version I use does push very well (5 accounts on it, all receiving mail in less than 30 sec...)

Latest OTA solved this. However, it's still in plain text.
Yup latest update works with hotmail, however no HTML and also a buggy refresh problem as well.
Not usable for me: looping on the first message, I never get the others...
HTC still got some work on it...
Exchange Hotmail and HTML
Don't waste your time. The exchange hotmail doesn't permit to read html emails.
You'll have to wait that Microsoft update exchange, and if it takes the same time that they took to implement exchange, we'll have to wait 5 or 6 years...
That's completely not true.
Touchdown seems to work with html emails on Hotmail.
So definitively it's an htc issue.

Hi All,
How can I make this update or find info about it?
Just bought the device (had TouchPro before) and found out that hotmail exchange won't work with HTC mail
I need exchange for contacts sync, so I installed the stock android email program like some others.
Having two mail programs isn't really good.
I am very new to this device and android..
Thanks
Eren B.
You'd better use the Mobile version of Windows Live Hotmail which can be accessed here: http://m.mail.live.com
You have to sign in once and after that Android will save your credentials.
I did it also and made a shortcut on my home screen, so when I click on that shortcut, my Hotmail will be loaded. Works fine, better than with the built-in Android Mail client.
Thanks but I can not use the web-version to sync my contacts..
I personally only use the stock email app with 5 hotmail accounts (even on my own custom domain), and no pb to sync contacts.
I simply ignore the htc lame app until they fix it...
What's the status of this issue with the new gingerbread OTA? (can't test it as I'm on a biz trip in the US)

I´ve tried with Hotmail EAS and the new OTA Update today.
It failed for me.
It synced only new emails and after i readed these emails it will never mark as read.
Now i will use Enhanced Email that works fine, i cannot understand where HTC has the problem to fix it
To stop the refresh bug happening change the days to sync from the default 3 days to 1 day.
I use the stock gingerbread htc mail app, push exchange on hotmail and everything works well apart from HTML which annoys me badly.

What will affect this setting exactly : will you still keep the old messages in the phone? Does it just stop to sync the read/deleted status after 1 day old?
My phone is actually using 1 month sync in the stock mail app, but I've seen that the phone keeps all mails forever...
I've tried your settings:
It is OK with mail push indeed, and contacts are OK too.
But I get many sync errors, they last many minutes draining battery, and I've noticed that many times, my read mails are not marked as read on the computer.
=>For me it is still buggy and not really usable.
I'll continue to use the stock mail app. Curently I'm using the froyo one with no pb (except no HTML), does anyone have the Gingerbread one? is it worthy to change?

I've looked all over..and can't find a section that mentions push mail from yahoo, aol, etc.
I'm coming from the iPhone so the push mail works on the Yahoo side and I believe on the aol side.
I know that MS exchange has push feature to the phone but what about the other standards? gmail?
I noticed on Cookies HT there is a push mail icon but that did not work (i take it that's for ms direct push?)
Lastly...is there a setting or app that allows ALL mail to send / receive vs just doing one account at a time (annoying)?
Thank you!
the microsoft direct push functionality (supported on ALL windows mobile devices in at least the past 3-4 years) works with ANY microsoft exchange server.
this means it will work for gmail (i am using it myself!) because google has the exchange server on their end. google itself provides a generic windows mobile tutorial on how to set it up and you can find a video guide on youtube specifically on how to set it up on a stock HD2 (technique should work on custom ROMs too). my only additional advice is to back up your contacts (either to microsoft myphone or using pimbackup) before proceeding because the google sync can also upload your contacts to google, and you don't want your contacts to get nuked in case something goes wrong during the initial sync. another potential confusion you might face is that you will see the labels set up on gmail as folders on your device's client. by default, syncing of folders is disabled, but you can go into "manage folders" under one of the menus when viewing your inbox on the device to pick the folders that you want to sync in addition to the inbox. finally, the first sync may take several minutes (even an hour) depending on the duration you have set up to sync (i use a setting for last one month worth of emails) and on your connection speed (try to use wifi for the first sync).
i don't know about yahoo or aol but if they support the microsoft exchange server on their side, then push email should theoretically work in these cases also.
all in all, i rather like the functionality because it is highly configurable. you can even set up "schedules" such that it works in push mode on, say, weekdays from noon to midnight and switch to, say, 4 hour poll mode while you are sleeping.
then again, i haven't experienced push email on any other device such as the black berry or iphone so my view point is rather limited.
Simply put yes. I have yahoo pop3 servive and get my yahoo mail just fine on the HD2

pop3 in "poll mode" is different from push email, which is what the OP was asking about.
however, for most practical purposes, pop3/imap in quick poll mode (like once every 5 minutes) is really not that bad, but it might adversely affect battery life.
i suppose poll mode is fine for most of us but some individuals/businessmen might rely on quick email delivery straight to their phone so its more logical to consider poll vs push as two separate technologies in discussions!
Do the folders selected to be sync with inbox will sync automatically?

you can create an exchange account using your gmail login,if you have it,otherwise you can create a new gmail account and use it for send/receive your mail in push:in gmail web page you must add your yahoo account for check and than configure the exchange as i explane!
pop3 is NOT push. There is a delay. Depends on when you have it checking.
As far as i know, the default windows mobile does NOT support push email for yahoo. If you want push email, use seven like i did. Worked fine on my hd2.
http://community.seven.com/main.php
It will allow push email from yahoo and many others. It is NOT an email app where you read them in seven, but a tool to push it to your phones normal email program. (what you would be using now)
I have been using it for a long time and had no problem.
Having probem with hotmail, using web browser instead of mail client since last night the log in page when downloaded is completely blank. Been like this since last night. Have tried clearing cache and history, rebooted phone also, but still same. Anyone else had this problem?

If I use the mail app to sync my hotmail account, it can only sync every 5 minutes. With Gmail, it is almost instantaneous (like push email).
I will get my hotmail email faster via forwarding to my gmail account that having the mail app check every 5 minutes.
That is why I do it via Gmail.

Guess its just not supported for android then
So its a known issue that hotmail active sync doesn't work on sense builds.. I found by using the stock email app not htc's you can set up hotmail using the corporate sync settings. here is the apk from vanilla android working great with my hotmail account and mdeejay desire build. just make sure the server is m.hotmail.com. check both boxes bout certificates and make sure you only add @hotmail.com to user name do not remove the /. The domain box should remain blank..

Gmail is excellent on Android. Just go into gmail and have it receive your hotmail emails too?
Gmail tells you from which email account each email is and replies from the same account that received the message. Of course as far as i know theres no Gmail widget for emails? (someone tell me if one exists, not that i search specifically for it)

Active sync is for more than just push emails though especially if you have Outlook which many do. And Gsyncit is a pay for app which active sync can do for free in one step. Also if you have lots of folders like I do on my outlook then you can't access these either.
EDIT: I have tonight discovered a solution to my problem of not being able to set up my Hotmail Exchange Active Sync. I have been trying for ages to set this up using the normal HTC email client. It kept reporting it had failed and I should try again later. So I found another email app called Improved Email and tried it with that and what do you know? It works! So now I am synced via Hotmail Exchange and my emails come instantly. In fact they arrive faster on my HD2 than on my home PC running outlook! So it begs the question why can't I set this up on the HTC email client??
Working now in the stock sense email app in EVO 3.70.651.1 Build
Just to confirm - once this is done, we can access our Hotmail via the HTC email app, or do we have to use the stock Android one?
Thanks!

Sorry to revive this thread but will this work on a HTC Aria? Apparently the Aria also suffers from the same bug that wont allow you to sync your phone with hotmail.
Like others I've discovered HTC Mail isn't compatible with Hotmail's Exchange ActiveSync (Gmail Exchange ActiveSync works fine).
I've installed Touchdown but dislike the interface (it's also 20 bucks!) and also Improved Mail (v1.75) which also works fine but:
1. You cannot Move e-mails into another folder
2. Unlike HTC Mail it doesn't show the amount of unread e-mails on the home screen shortcut.
3. And the killer: It support HTML e-mails. How can a modern e-mail app not support HTML e-mails?
Are there any other Exchange ActiveSync e-mail apps I can use instead? Where can I download the Google Nexus One e-mail app?

how about Moxier Mail...

looks nicer than TouchDown.. although when i tested Moxier (2.7) it didnt support HTML emails on Ex.2003 unlike Touchdown.
Moxier also appears to hold the downloaded emails on the phone memory so ran out quite quickly.. Maybe 2.8 is better now. havent tried.
for now i use TouchDown when i'm away from the office.
Thanks Kazgor.
I've just installed v2.5 and it doesn't support HTML e-mail on Exchange ActiveSync either. I cannot find a newer version. What is it with HTML support?
It's no good, if it doesn't support HTML e-mail. Pity as otherwise it looks good.
Give Roadsync a try - works fine for me although needs some improvement to match the Symbian version...
I was reading another thread on this earlier this week on xda and this link was in it. It describes how to load the normal android email app. Its for 2.2. I don't know If this supports what you need.

Thanks guys. I've now tried:
1. Native Nexus One E-mail App
2. Improved E-Mail v1.75 (not the new v2.00 yet)
3. Touch Down
4. RoadSync
And all work perfectly fine with Hotmail's Exchange ActiveSync but none support HTML e-mail. RoadSync says it does in it's text in the market and the owner of Improved Mail says it's also supported.
So I'm thinking this is a bug with Hotmail's Exchange ActiveSync.
I've also discovered on the Improved E-Mail website (www.mwebster.us) that moving mail when using Hotmail's Exchange ActiveSync won't sync this back to the server, due to Microsoft’s implementation of Exchange ActiveSync. Great!
Thanks cjm1979. I tried that awhile ago and the same problem. Incidentally, if that really is the Native Nexus One e-mail program, it's identical to Improved E-mail. Leading me to believe, Google licensed it from the owner.
So right now, as I need HTML e-mail more than Exchange ActiveSync. I'm using the HTC Mail app with POP3 .
I've received a rather interesting reply from the owner of Improved E-Mail, regarding HTML E-mail and Moving e-mail between folders not working:
"I think the problem is that the Hotmail activesync is based on Exchange 2003 (Why I have no idea - that's 2 versions ago), and it does not send html mail to mobiles, at least to most email apps I know of - I think this may be a server side issue, but I still plan on looking at it, since I'd like to be able to receive html from other account types as well.
It *should* support marking/unmarking and deleting and having that propagate to the server. I was going to verify but I can't setup my hotmail account right now for some reason.
Also remember, hotmail doesn't 'officially' support Android yet, so maybe things will get better."
I've been using the Seven client on mine. It works with Hotmail and Exchange, with minimal configuration (less than a regular client). Not even sure if it's using Exchange ActiveSync as it has a dedicated hotmail option that works perfectly well with push mail and displays as HTML. The Exchange option asks for the webmail URL (actual URL, not just mail server) and also works perfectly well.
Hotmail option syncs contacts but doesn't offer the option to sync calendar.
Exchange option syncs all 3.
The contact search function is fairly unresponsive, as in I searched for a contact and waited ages and gave up.
The widget is very rudimentary. It takes up half the screen and shows the last 3 Exchange emails. Doesn't give me any option to choose which account it displays email for, so effectively no widget for my hotmail.
It doesn't really come close to the standard HTC mail app, other than actually working for hotmail which the HTC doesn't...
Hope this helps?
I am keen to find an alternative for HTC mail as well. I am still using my Windows Mobile 6.5 phone and no hotmail is one of the main reasons why!
Thanks Mitel.
How can I get hold of Seven Client? I cannot find it on the Market place.

Can you get this working with Hotmail? I enter https://m.hotmail.com and it errors saying:
"An error occured. Please try again (100)."
Interestingly the Gmail option does offer Contacts + Calendar. Only Contacts for Hotmail, like you say. It's a brilliant application but has some problems:
1. There is no Shortcut option, so you have to open the App from the Home screen and then it takes another tap to go to my Gmail or Hotmail Inbox.
2. Because of this, the App shortcut doesn't display the Unread e-mail count.
3. The Sent folder for both Hotmail and Gmail is local only. It's impossible to either display, sync or even have e-mails sent in Hotmai's Sent Items or Gmail's Sent Mail folder. Odd!
4. If e-mail needs to be truncated it displays as Plain Text and if it doesn't need truncating, it displays as HTML (if relevant). I'd prefer all html e-mails displays as html regardless but to get the option to switch to html you have to scroll to the bottom of e-mails and some newsletters are really long. There is no option to set if e-mail is displayed as plain text of html as default.
5. As said, the widget is weak but I don't use the widget for e-mails, so this doesn't bother me.
6. It's Push Mail only. The HTC Desire's battery doesn't sadly allow me the luxury of Push Mail.
The last one is a deal breaker. It's a shame as the setup is so easy (for Gmail/Hotmail it's just the username/password) and the interface is really well thought out. The unified inbox works well too. The search function works fine for me, pulling in contacts from the phone, sim card, gmail (if relevant) and hotmail (if relevant).
I didn't bother trying the Seven IM app because it only supports Gtalk and MSN. I need both MSN and Facebook Chat/IM support.
You can download the combined Seven E-Mail + IM App from here: http://community.seven.com/main.php
I downloaded the seven app version 23.41.6437_3_z7-android2x.apk

I wiped my phone a couple times. Still nothing. Stock EVO....
got roadsync, works nice
Here I come to hijack a thread for a device I didn't own but stumbled across as I was googling Android email apps.
In case you weren't aware, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the email apps or the way they connect to Hotmail using the exchange protocol.
It's purely that Hotmail Exchange via m.hotmail.com doesn't support HTML yet - it's a Microsoft issue. Will they ever implement it - who knows? But the fact remains if you want your Hotmail in HTML format then you're stuck with connecting via POP3 for the moment.
HTH.
Does HTML e-mail work on supported devices like the iPhone?
It works in Touch Down on Android but the UI is pretty ugly. I understand this bends the Exchange ActiveSync rules to support it. Why MS are using Exchange 2003 is strange.
No, HTML Hotmail is a no-go regardless of the device or app you are using. Hotmail simply does not support HTML over their Exchange connection, only POP3.
If you are asking about straightforward HTML in your email when connecting to say a corporate exchange account, then yes, obviously depending on the app and version of exchange.

Huh, well I never. I guess I'll have to try it.
Hi
Before the latest update to my HTC Desire HD, I couldn't setup a hotmail account using exchange server. However, after the update, its seems to be fixed (maybe).
After setting up my hotmail account using exchange server, inbox keeps refreshing forever until I press stop/cancel or sometimes it says syncronisation key corrupt or invalid after some time.
When I open inbox again, it refreshes the whole inbox and not only retrieving new messages.
Does anyboyd have the same problem and maybe fixed it somehow? I would like to use my hotmail account using IMAP/Exchange so devices are syncronized
Hope someone have fix for the refreshing problem.
Youve got further than myself, i cant even add Hotmail exchange in the first place!
