January 2012 SOAK Test for Atrix - Atrix 4G General

Did anyone else get this email. In it the Atrix 4g was specifically mentioned for SOAK test registration for January 2012.

Got it about 10 min ago. I hope its ICS!

So I get this and registered...awaiting response.....now should I flash fruitcake or try to flash the SBF? Wondering what will get me the least likely hood of hard bricking my phone.

Hmm.
Is that meen that we will get ICS soon?

I am wondering the same thing...should I get back on stock?

I think it is just 2.3.7

I got it too, too little too late from moto for me, not a chance in hell it's ics but it's good they haven't forgotten about the phone
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App that's already on 2.3.7

what's SOAK Test???

I doubt moto would waste time doing a soak test for a higher version of gingerbread -- especially since they've got a whole host of other phones for which they need to provide support. Rejoice people, this is ICS!!

It's hard to believe but you have a good point... I'm so disappointed with Motorola that I don't doubt it could be a fail update to fix something that just make our life a little worse (like ripping off root/HDMI mirroring and stuff)
This will be my last Motorola phone for sure.

if it is it'll at least mean we can enjoy a blur free ics 100% working rom a lot quicker. but i just refuse to believe that the atrix is going to be the 2nd ics phone behind gnex.

Got it this morning around 2am central time. Signed up and hoping its ICS.

I joined how I get approved will this mean I get ICS? Also what will happen to my root status?

I think this will be exciting to see how the new motoblur looks, they have said that they want to make less phones and more support for phones, and with google behind them and the pressure on from samsung, my eyes and ears are looking to moto to put up a fight. another point is that google is hard on about using the ICS halo theme and google owns moto, maybe the order came from the top, ICS with less blur out faster please.

I've no doubt that the community makes the difference I also saw someone else post saying that even if Motorola release a ICS he will still use CM9 instead... I just feel abandoned by Motorola in a lot of ways such improvements in the entertainment center, no FM radio (no subtitles) and other stuffs that they never ever reply.. They could at least provide the libs as they will not care....

The only reason I use moto blur roms is because I really like the lapdock, that's why am I really hoping that they bring out an ics ROM.

Incredible got 2.2 OTA Today

I just find it comical that the Droid X was hyped up to come with 2.2 and then it launches with 2.1, which wasn't a big deal...
However now as a slap in the face.. The droid1 got froyo... The droid 2 has froyo.. Now the droid incredible also has froyo.. And the X is left alone by itself in 2.1 land.. Any comments?

My comment is its BS!! i know its potentially just a week or 2 away (maybe) but there is no reason why it should be the last freaken droid to get the update. This is suppose to be the daddy of all phones. If anything it should have been the 1st. Sorry just impatient because i want it but dont want to mess with leaked version that has to be manually installed. Who knows if its even the final version.
I'm going to list the phones in order of release with their Froyo Status.
Droid - Froyo'd first
Droid Incredible - Froyo'd second
Droid X - FroyoLeak, no OTA
Droid 2 - Released Froyo'd
It's only logical that X is last. Of course, it's not Verizon's fault. It's technically Motorola's, as they are the ones providing support for the phones they themselves released... But with the leaked Froyo out, it's only a matter of time before the OTA update's out. Just give it time, ok?

It could actually be verizon holding it up. There is a very exhaustive testing process that all phones have to go through to be allowed on the vzw network. Most of the time the long lead is the first time through testing withdrawn updates taking much less testing and therefore much less time. However, if verizon found some issue that they don't want to allow on their network they could require motorola to go back, fix it, and get back in line to get the testing performed. Of course, some times verizon waves their hands let's the phone go through with minimal testing. We really can't know.

Good point. But still..that doesn't portend that the X is low on verizon's priorities..quite the opposite I think.
I think there are tons more droids than droidx phones in use. The lack of flash in the recent froyo release for the droid seemed to have caught more of motorola and verizons attention since they rolled out /are rolling out an update in short order.

Any Cooks/Dev's working on a build of the sdk for the droid/droid2/droidx....?

If I have read correctly around the net, I think devs need to wait until Motorola releases their own version of Gingerbread for the D2 and DX since they use Blur. Could be different for the Droid 1 though since its stock.

Exactly the reason why I plan on switching to the samsung fascinate. This locked bootloader mess is making the droid2 root experience suck bad. While other phones get roms as soon as the freakin sdk is released for gingerbread, we are stuck waiting on moto bcuz we are locked down and unable to get ealry gb roms.

Real funny how you want to switch to a fascinate because of Motorola being slow on rom updates. The sgs fascinate is still in 2.1 eclair bro. If you want most upto date than stay away from Sammy. That's why I'm replacing my fascinate tomorrow.

I would agree with you normally but this is XDA.. the vast majority of people here are looking to customize their phones, and are not like the general public. I'd rather a fully unlocked bootloader with zero OEM support than lots of OEM support and a completely locked down system. galaxy s gets gingerbread before atrix?

kinda sad that a phone thats been out for almost a year is getting gingerbread before the atrix. i think its ATT's fault. they seem to delay OS updates, at least they did for the captivate. both rogers and bell got froyo months before att. maybe ATT wants to make sure all the features it wants disabled are in working like wifi hotspot?
True. Im already regretting buying my Atrix, too late to return it though. But also Motorola was asking for beta testers to sign up to test 2.3.

Looks like this is for unbranded galaxy s phones though. In the US it takes longer cause the carriers are modding the OS to add all their useless bloatware crappola an it's usually the carrier that pushes the updates not the manufacturer. But hopefully with the update to enable hsupa we get a couple of extra goodies.

it makes sense that the phone that's been out for a year gets it first....
since google released the 2.3 source code, the company has been doing nothing but preparing an update most likely. motorola however, needed to iron out kinks in their initial 2.2 release before they can consider developing a 2.3 OS, and then allowing carriers to modify it to your liking.
obviously you didn't think about what has to be done to come up with a polished 2.3 update before it can be released as an official OTA update. you really can't fault motorola for this not being out yet. it takes a lot of time, testing, and effort to release a finished product.
Raybond, I agree with everything you said, but its hard to cut Motorola any slack for this when the phone should have come with 2.3 in the first place. On top of that they lock the bootloader so we cant get 2.3 working on our own either....

well, the problem is that they probably started dev for the atrix's OS before 2.3 was released, so it would have been even more work, and probably would have caused delays in their release of the phone if they had shipped it with 2.3
I know locked bootloader is a massive drag for 3rd party dev, but you really can't fault moto for any decisions they've made with this phone other than that.

honeycomb is a totally different series in Android OS, tablet-specific series to be precise (3.0)
So, gingerbread is 2.3, and ICS is 2.4. Also, rumour has it that ICS will have full dual-core support, so it would make logical sense for Moto to not waste any time with 2.3 and go straight for dev in 2.4

ice creme sandwich is a blend features of both gingerbread and honeycomb made specifically for phones. you will not be seeing honeycomb on an android phone backed by google. that one reason google is not releasing honeycomb source yet, they dont want to have honeycomb phones out there.

[RUMOR] Official Motorola ICS for Atrix 4G

I have spoke with some people from motorola and asked some questions related to general business but also for upgrading Atrix with ICS.
I'm pasting here some answers without mentioning names, I think that this may show that motorola is doing more than they are ready to publicly say in this moment. To be on safe side You can think about this as rumor.
On Software upgrades, I wasn't aware of an announcement regarding ICS and ATRIX. Although Motorola tends to announce what it will do, not what it won't do, it doesn't mean it won't happen. You may be right, but I don't know the current status... The challenge we have with ATRIX however is Webtop, the full linux OS which sits within Froyo/Gingerbread... I imagine this has delayed any comment. The ideal scenario would be to upgrade all phones to the latest software, and I see that almost all high-end (non web top) phones have had ICS upgrade confirmed.

Motorola's problem in releasing ICS is not WebTop's fault, is nvidia's! they will not release ICS drivers and sources, not until motorola pays them some good money.
So, our hope for now is that motorola pays for ics on xoom and then make a "hacked driver" of it to the phones with tegra2....

Perfectly acceptable titles:

- I contacted Motorola regarding ICS for the Atrix, here's the answer
- If you were wondering about Motorola's stand on ICS for the Atrix, here it is
- So I decided to contact Motorola about ICS for the Atrix
Do you understand how the title is misleading enough for it to pass as obvious trolling? Don't apologize, just change the god damned title so people won't read it and get excited over some unofficial comments that do not really say ANYTHING at all about current development for the Atrix.

He isn't rubbing anything in. When I bought my Atrix, I vowed not to do any modding to it in the slightest. Then AT&T pushed updates to their Atrix, yet Bell decided to wait for months on end before pushing the same updates. It became rather annoying having to wait for the updates. Plus, add in the fact that fully-functioning Gingerbread was out months before it would be released on Bell officially, I decided to give modding a shot, and I haven't looked back. Unlocking your phone and flashing custom ROMs just increases the life of your phone, in that you know developers of ROMs (who are not paid by a company to do what they do) will push out stock and custom versions of new Android operating systems, while carriers like Bell will EOL this phone and others and you may not even see ICS come out.

I was jokingly referring to him rubbing it in that I wasn't personally comfortable installing a ROM, not rubbing it in that Bell turned it's back on us.

no offense taken lol
really as pretty much everyone on these boards would tell you, rooting and unlocking bootloader is the way to go, at first it was scary... if i brick the phone? but i just read and read and read and ask for everything and in the end i got it, since then i havent looked back,
motorola is waiting for hell to freeze itself so we get ICS and also bell will then take another eternity to release it if they ever do, a bunch of devs are working hard to get ICS working in the meantime,
if not then you should try the neutrino ROM its awesome, really fast and smooth
my 2 cents

yeah but really if you follow the "noob" guide you should be able unlock the bootloader and get it going. if you follow it and double check your steps it shouldn't be too hard.
the atrix is old now, we've (as a community) gotten it to the point where most operations are one click or little user input. and once you root/unlock/mod the thing there are so many amazing ways to keep you falling back in love with the device. I was so ready to dump it and just use my skyrocket, but I ended up getting rid of the skyrocket and getting the lapdock and using the atrix full time.
I'm going to get the Galaxy Note, but the atrix won't be too far away because it can just do so much
I just installed CM9 on my atrix. It runs super smooth and fast. I love it. My phone finally feels smart
I have a Bell Atrix and still on Froyo. Honestly I really don't care anymore if it gets ICS or not. Battery life is extremely critical to me and I don't want GB's battery life from what I've been reading. ICS would have to have Froyo battery life for me to get exited and an available root option as well...

I have a Bell Atrix on GB. In airplane mode, the battery lasts 6 days. With the sim enabled, it lasts 2 days with light use.
With the tools some great members have provided, you have almost no risk of bricking.
Just read and read.

You can put pretty much any original Atrix-rom on the Bell. I have a Bell Atrix and have had both the Orange ROM for france, Telstra rom for Australia and now the original Motorola ROM for Nordic countries (45.31.1.MB860.NonEFIGSRetail.en.EU) which is great, no bloatware and my native language. I've never rooted or unlocked bootloader or anything, just a SIM-unlock. So I'm sure u'll be able to get ICS on it when it is released!

Try 2x Battery Saver. It's just a automatic 3g toggle. I found a huge improvement from that alone

lol, why is everyone picking on me? The only person I know that tried to install a custom ROM ended up hard bricking his galaxy s2 within 3 days of ownership (luckily he was able to feign ignorance and get a straight exchange).
I've read the guides and kept up to date on ROM development, but I've also seen the "Help! my phone is hard bricked" threads also, so I'm pretty hesitant.
I suppose when my warrenty is up and there is a non-beta ICS ROM I'll try my luck....
tried at&t rom on bell set
it was working fine in all aspect with fingerprint sensor but there is no keyboard
