Bell Atrix Update to ICS Looks Bleak - Atrix 4G General

http://mobilesyrup.com/2012/03/29/o...tting-upgraded-to-os-4-0-including-timelines/
Unless this is an incomplete list, it looks very bleak for the Atrix to receive ICS for Bell users. Just thought I would throw this out there (I know it has been discussed, but this literally just was posted on Mobile Syrup).

no worries.. this is XDA.
AT&T is releasing ICS for the Atrix (So they say)
You'll have a fully working virtually bug free ICS Rom Soon.

Doesn't really help those of us(namely me), who don't feel confident enough to install a custom rom, without bricking their phone

Haha. I am currently using Turl's CM9 ROMs...I gave up on official ROMs from Bell. I was just posting this for those who would rather avoid the modding stuff.

sorry.. Just assumed all XDA members were flash happy like me.

Currently using turls1 cm9 rom and smooth as hell. By the time the official ics comes out for the ATRIX this rom will be smoother, faster and have many more customizations. Including better battery life.

He isn't rubbing anything in. When I bought my Atrix, I vowed not to do any modding to it in the slightest. Then AT&T pushed updates to their Atrix, yet Bell decided to wait for months on end before pushing the same updates. It became rather annoying having to wait for the updates. Plus, add in the fact that fully-functioning Gingerbread was out months before it would be released on Bell officially, I decided to give modding a shot, and I haven't looked back. Unlocking your phone and flashing custom ROMs just increases the life of your phone, in that you know developers of ROMs (who are not paid by a company to do what they do) will push out stock and custom versions of new Android operating systems, while carriers like Bell will EOL this phone and others and you may not even see ICS come out.

really as pretty much everyone on these boards would tell you, rooting and unlocking bootloader is the way to go, at first it was scary... if i brick the phone? but i just read and read and read and ask for everything and in the end i got it, since then i havent looked back,
motorola is waiting for hell to freeze itself so we get ICS and also bell will then take another eternity to release it if they ever do, a bunch of devs are working hard to get ICS working in the meantime,
if not then you should try the neutrino ROM its awesome, really fast and smooth
my 2 cents

yeah but really if you follow the "noob" guide you should be able unlock the bootloader and get it going. if you follow it and double check your steps it shouldn't be too hard.
the atrix is old now, we've (as a community) gotten it to the point where most operations are one click or little user input. and once you root/unlock/mod the thing there are so many amazing ways to keep you falling back in love with the device. I was so ready to dump it and just use my skyrocket, but I ended up getting rid of the skyrocket and getting the lapdock and using the atrix full time.
I'm going to get the Galaxy Note, but the atrix won't be too far away because it can just do so much

I just installed CM9 on my atrix. It runs super smooth and fast. I love it. My phone finally feels smart

I have a Bell Atrix and still on Froyo. Honestly I really don't care anymore if it gets ICS or not. Battery life is extremely critical to me and I don't want GB's battery life from what I've been reading. ICS would have to have Froyo battery life for me to get exited and an available root option as well...

I have a Bell Atrix on GB. In airplane mode, the battery lasts 6 days. With the sim enabled, it lasts 2 days with light use.

With the tools some great members have provided, you have almost no risk of bricking.

You can put pretty much any original Atrix-rom on the Bell. I have a Bell Atrix and have had both the Orange ROM for france, Telstra rom for Australia and now the original Motorola ROM for Nordic countries (45.31.1.MB860.NonEFIGSRetail.en.EU) which is great, no bloatware and my native language. I've never rooted or unlocked bootloader or anything, just a SIM-unlock. So I'm sure u'll be able to get ICS on it when it is released!

lol, why is everyone picking on me? The only person I know that tried to install a custom ROM ended up hard bricking his galaxy s2 within 3 days of ownership (luckily he was able to feign ignorance and get a straight exchange).
I've read the guides and kept up to date on ROM development, but I've also seen the "Help! my phone is hard bricked" threads also, so I'm pretty hesitant.
I suppose when my warrenty is up and there is a non-beta ICS ROM I'll try my luck....

tried at&t rom on bell set
it was working fine in all aspect with fingerprint sensor but there is no keyboard

CM7 for ATRIX 4G before SGS2

I bet if we all came together, we can get Cyanogenmod on the ATRIX 4G before the SGS2. I know some devs will be receiving a few ATRIX to begin development.
I'm up for a $50 donation for the dev to release CM7.
I'm sure others are willing to donate also so we can all have CM7 on our great phone!
Cheers,

Given how many "Atrix sucks, SGSII!" (or other comparable phone) threads that seem to appear, us getting CM7 first would make my day.
The person who maintains the official Droid CM7 port is getting an Atrix, so we'll definitely be getting it at some point.
i'll chip in $20 if we can get the atrix as an official CM device
Count me in!
Please dont flame me on this. Atrix is my first smartphone i have learned alot since I first had it but im still a noob. Based on your experiences with CM7, what are the noticeable benefits of CM7 compared to stock?

I've been a fan of CM since the G1. It made it run like the n1 when it first came out lol pretty much. I have only tried beta CM7 when it first came out on the mytouch 4g so i probably have missed out alot, thats when i went to WP7 lol.
seeing as how samsung sent them an sgs2 I highly doubt it'll happen

I'm getting my Atrix on Tuesday. I just switched over from Tmobile, figured i'd sign as a free agent before i got traded. Had an awesome MyTouch 4g. In my honest opinion it is sooo much better to have a dev create a build solely for your phone rather than go with CM. It's like being in a classroom with thousand's of students instead of being in a classroom with 10. You get much better support, quicker updates, and a better overall experience. Don't get me wrong, CM is great but I went with TeamRoyal who was only doing work on the MyTouch and they had 2.3.4 out quickly with Netflix working before CM was anywhere close to it. So i hope there is a Dev for the Atrix that is going to be working full time on a rom rather than waiting for CM.
I've said it in another thread, but yes, I would donate 15-20$ to a successful CM7 port project.

Yep, i was overwhelmed as well. In less than 24 hours we got, unlocked bootloader, full CWM, and a 2.3.4 rom. Supposedly, CM7 is also a work-in-progress.
If this rate of the development keeps we might actually edge sgs2 to a CM7 port.
pff I usually just read through these forums, but what the hell, Ill donate a decent amount too
I'm still not quite sure why so many people love CM7. Yes it a great ROM but I feel like the way it looks it just all right, and the new blur-themed 2.3.4 GB rom for the Atrix is a lot smoother.

Vibrant's Verizon Brother The Fascinate Getting Gingerbread Update!!! Wheres ours?

According to Phandroid.com, the Fascinate on Verizon is getting the Gingerbread Update!
http://phandroid.com/2011/12/01/samsung-fascinate-gingerbread-update-ready-to-roll/
Now T-mobile and Samsung, I have to ask, where is the Vibrant's update?
Galaxy S internatinoal got gingerbread.
Galaxy S 4G got gingerbread.
Captivate has gingerbread leaks.
Fascinate is getting gingerbread.
Vibrant Canada I think got gingerbread also.
So where is the T-mobile Vibrant Gingerbread????????????????????????
Might be more power full if posted in samsung website forum.
yea, post that there. Ive given up on GB anyway, custom roms are better anyway
Accept that it's not coming and 2.2 is the terminal firmware for the Vibrant. You can thank the T-959v for that.

Imagine how better they'd be with Gingerbread source.
Eh doesnt matter anymore. We got devs doing ics, in a week or two more it'll run flawlessly.
wait.. correct me if i'm wrong but isn't the fascinate the same hardware minus the modem (cdma)? if this is the case devs could just as easily rip all the files needed to complete our driver issues on GB. if not oh well.
I believe there is something different with the GPS drivers on the Vibrant, which is why we have so many great ROMs without very good GPS.
Seriously? Another rant about gb for the vibrant? Just flash an i9000 port, and stop complaining. Or get another phone. There are early builds of ics popping up already. the vibrant was one of the first to get an ics build actually....

I understand the need for GPS, but it's really a hit or miss with vibrants. I'll pretty sure i got the first run of units, so gps never really worked well for me, no matter what ROM I'm on.
Granted, if i use the gb bullet kernel, i can get a lock and even navigation, but it takes a while. I just use maps to give me directions, then follow them. Simple solution to a simple problem.

Everyone has a choice. Thats why I love Android and iOS. Both have their pros and cons. I am NOT a fanboy. I can point out both advantages for both platforms, and both have disadvantages.
I'm just glad this wasn't like 5 years ago where the only choice for a smartphone = iPhone. I did own a iPhone 3GS, jailbroke it, found nothing interesting to jailbreak except to pirate apps... which i pointless to me. I prefer android, it gives me a change. But again, opinions are opinions.
Tmoble already has the sgs 2 and the sgs 4g. Not to mention that the vibrant was discontinued months ago there's honestly no point in a business point of view updating a phone there not making any money on

And this is why we need source direct from samsung
CM DROPS VIBRANT SUPPORT DUE TO 911 INABILITY:
"We are no longer supporting the Vibrant due to the inability to dial 911. We consider the issues related to this unresolvable without source code from Samsung related to the Radio interface layer and its interactions with the Audio layers and have taken the decision to no longer support this. We apologize for the inconvenience and strongly suggest that Vibrant users use a Samsung ROM due to the 911 issues with any ROMs based on open source code."
http://phandroid.com/2011/12/12/cya...le-galaxy-s-support-dropped-due-to-911-issue/
Now do you see why it is so important to have put pressure on Samsung/T-Mobile to release an update to Gingerbread? This is why! Developers are talented but they can't work miracles. We need source/drivers for proper 911 and GPS capabilities just to name a few.

Try for a moment to step outside your world and look at things from the other 99% of Epic users; the ones that AREN'T on XDA and spend most of their day doing things other than flashing their phones. Even assuming that ICS works smoothly on the Epic, replacing the current GB rom with a bare stripped ICS rom would look like a downgrade to them with all the Touchwiz functions missing. Maybe some people would like that, but I think it would be a marketing mess to try and explain why they are taking away features with an update.
For those of us who are geeky enough to want a plain ICS rom, stand by for CM9, that will be here much sooner than we would get an official ICS update.
And if I see one more new thread about whether or not we get some stupid upgrade a year from now I am going to throw up all over XDA! Please put all rants in an existing ICS rant and complaints!
Cheer up !
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyx6JDQCslE&ob=av3e
why worry about phone updates that much ....
You have to understand that Samsung is just lazy about the Epic. We are just recently getting a final Gingerbread build in November and it STILL has memory leaks. They would like Sprint to discontinue them.

2.2 is working well, but the CM alpha version of 2.3 that was put out for the Moment, ran like crap, and was pretty much dropped as the devs moved on. I HIGHLY doubt that any version of ICS will run on the Samsung Moment in a decent manner
Not that I dont wish it would, just having modded the Samsung Moment for a couple years now, IMO it just doenst have enough internal space or processing power for a full blown ICS build.
Now the Epic has enough of both, if the partitions are resized, but I highly doubt that Samsung will take that route.
IMO, the only way the Epic will see ICS is with CM9. Thankfully, I feel there is a very good chance CM9 will be developed and released at some point by the CM development team

OK there is some confusion here...
1. He was wrong with "can't," Samsung could remove touchwiz entirely from our phone, and put AOSP Ics, with our hardware drivers that they have access too. HTC has already done this by removing sense from a phone, so it could get gingerbread.
2. As long as there is a tutorial, any user can get used to a new ui.
3. Our phone(nor any gs phone) does not need any touchwiz at all in CM. We have to use some Samsung proprietary files, cause we cant change them.

Maybe Samsung should just release a non TW version of ICS, but not have it as an OTA download. Those that want it would have to download it manually from a website and then use the "Odin for Dumbies" method of flashing ala the EB13 download that walked a person step by step on flashing the phone which would wipe the whole phone and install EB13.
That way the 99% of users who don't tinker with there phones would still have TW and GB on their phones and be happy with it, while the few that want ICS would get it as well.

Yes but its not worth the time and money for them to do that. Especially when CM9 does it for free. In my opinion, the smartest thing for them to do would be to supply the Samsung CM maintainers with the necessary drivers and sources to easily get CM9 running perfectly. Doesnt cost any money or much time and at the end of the day, the people who care are happy.

So, every Epic owner who doesn't use XDA also can't handle the transition to a new UI? Not one of those several hundred users has ever had a previous phone, especially not one made by HTC or any of the several other android phone manufacturers, or a Blackberry or iPhone? If that's the case, how did I miss the rioting when Sprint released the first update to Froyo? Or GB? (The UI changed with both of those upgrades, remember?)

Overpopulation must have really gotten out of control without my noticing - the last time I checked, this entire planet has a finite (in other words, limited) population...
I personally don't have a Moment, so the absolute maximum number of people (the limit, if you will) is already guaranteed to be [world population - 1] at the most (assuming every man, woman and child has a Moment except me)
So, what was that about stupidity?

That would directly contradict the point he tried to make by using that statement - that development is still rolling on the Moment. If there were limited users in this case (since we know that there is always a limit to the number, actually stating it implies a very limited number), then that would be an argument in favor of slowing or halting development on that device due to a dwindling user base

It reads to me that the thought he is trying to convey is, "why does the moment (with such a limited user base) already have people (not samsung) working on ics and cm9 and we dont (with many more people currently using the epic)?".
I'm not sure though. The op need some grammer training and a better spellchecker.

Nicely reworded.
That said, anyone know of a link to any sort of ICS and/or CM9 in any state for the Moment?

January 2012 SOAK Test for Atrix

Did anyone else get this email. In it the Atrix 4g was specifically mentioned for SOAK test registration for January 2012.
Got it about 10 min ago. I hope its ICS!

So I get this and registered...awaiting response.....now should I flash fruitcake or try to flash the SBF? Wondering what will get me the least likely hood of hard bricking my phone.
Hmm.
Is that meen that we will get ICS soon?

I am wondering the same thing...should I get back on stock?
I think it is just 2.3.7
I got it too, too little too late from moto for me, not a chance in hell it's ics but it's good they haven't forgotten about the phone
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App that's already on 2.3.7
what's SOAK Test???
I doubt moto would waste time doing a soak test for a higher version of gingerbread -- especially since they've got a whole host of other phones for which they need to provide support. Rejoice people, this is ICS!!

It's hard to believe but you have a good point... I'm so disappointed with Motorola that I don't doubt it could be a fail update to fix something that just make our life a little worse (like ripping off root/HDMI mirroring and stuff)
This will be my last Motorola phone for sure.

I feel the same way. However, if this is ICS, I may reconsider my stance

I'm not bothering this time around (deleted my Blur backup by mistake).
If it is ICS, I'll just wait till the fine folks in development get CM9 working right.

And this won't be my last Moto phone for sure. Imo, Moto makes the best looking phones. If you want updates - pick a Moto phone that has the biggest developer community.
Community ROMs ALWAYS beat the official crap that Motorola releases.

if it is it'll at least mean we can enjoy a blur free ics 100% working rom a lot quicker. but i just refuse to believe that the atrix is going to be the 2nd ics phone behind gnex.
Got it this morning around 2am central time. Signed up and hoping its ICS.

I joined how I get approved will this mean I get ICS? Also what will happen to my root status?
I think this will be exciting to see how the new motoblur looks, they have said that they want to make less phones and more support for phones, and with google behind them and the pressure on from samsung, my eyes and ears are looking to moto to put up a fight. another point is that google is hard on about using the ICS halo theme and google owns moto, maybe the order came from the top, ICS with less blur out faster please.

I've no doubt that the community makes the difference I also saw someone else post saying that even if Motorola release a ICS he will still use CM9 instead... I just feel abandoned by Motorola in a lot of ways such improvements in the entertainment center, no FM radio (no subtitles) and other stuffs that they never ever reply.. They could at least provide the libs as they will not care....

The only reason I use moto blur roms is because I really like the lapdock, that's why am I really hoping that they bring out an ics ROM.
Who the hell wants Blur ICS?

Why officials ICS Rom for att and not inter

I am upset that a fully functional att version note got a fully working ITS leaked Rom before the international version did. its so unfair

For real though. Man up. Deal with it. Quit *****ing.
It'll come when it comes. I bet you never experienced the ordeal with the samsung infuse getting gingerbread

Or the ordeal I had to deal with getting Froyo on my Samsung Epic 4G....
Besides it's a leak on AT&T. It's not even official. Who knows what problems there are still on it. Rather get a fully stable release than get a leak with bugs.
OMG a dark day in history of human kind...
Obviously Samsung feels the same cause they didn't really want to release either yet...
But seriously, leaks are random, you can't seriously be upset that what has leaked was not the one you wanted...

Second that. I never understood why people are so impatient about software updates...like the Note was a completely useless garbage without ICS. Anyway, we have plenty ICS roms - even better than stock, so just flash one of them and be happy.

what the heck are you talking about?
international version had an ICS leak ages ago. sammobile had the i9220 leak and then made an n7000 version of it, this was like a month or so ago?
and whilst the att version is functional, its not without bugs. its also missing the much anticipated premium suite.
While technically he is right there has been no leak for the n7000 just the i9220. Doesn't matter really because no phone comes close to this bad boy even without ICS..
If I wanted ICS I would have bought a Nexus Prime..
Now that definitely warrants a new ICS thread...

Actually our ICS leak is fully functional. Everything works properly, runs smoothly, and our black crush even got better. So yeah I'd say it's pretty stable. It's my daily driver.

ahaha the day after i sold my samsung infuse gb was release for it
Simple answer.
ICS on N7000 should be easier for them.
AT&T Note: Had to be modified for faster internet access so users can hit their cap faster.
China's i9220 and Intl N7000 should be about the same thing and easier todo.
And leak are just leaks, who knows how someone got access to that? Maybe we already have a fully perfect ROM for N7000 and Samsung still working out to provide roms for AT&T so ICS update can be a global thing.
Could care less
What does ICS bring to the table, other than hardware acceleration,
probably some newer apps.
The current version of GB 2.3.6 runs on my note like greased lightning.
You know good & well when ICS is released for any device, it's going to have
some of the same growing pains that GB did when it was released.
Since my Note is my business connection device, I think I'll hold off on jumping
onto the ICS bandwagon, until I know for sure it's ROCK SOLID stable.
I don't have time dealing with bugs. Thanks to you bleeding heart types though.
If it wasn't for you, we'd never be anywhere, but, I can't afford to have the
device lock up, slow down, crash etc.
