[Q] downgrading from 2.3.5 - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

Hello friends,
I need help downgrading. I know its doable as I've read countless people mention they did it, I just can't for the life of me do it on my phone.
Can anyone explain how to do it?
I flashes latest beta and then CMW + CM7 and now I would like to go 2.2.2 again.
I tried just doing regular update with dload folder on sdcard. but one of 2 things happen, the pink bar doesn't start and it just says "unpacking" and nothing happens, or it says "update failed"

Remove everything else from sdcard than dload folder. Install official update without battery with power cord plugged.

Wipe everything
Try to wipe data dactory reset and everything
and after that try to boot your phone should be ok, if is not try to flach 2.2.2 again....
I made it, it was really easy, try internal - external sd if one or other doesn't start the upgrade(downgrade actually), and also try to do it without batery, pluged in the charger, for some reason for me is the only way to start the downgrade....
Of course try it at your own risk!

put the "dload" folder (any 2.2 version should work) in the INTERNAL memory and not in the SDcard.
take off the sd card and power off the phone.
then power on the phone like if you were trying to go in to pink screen and the installation will start

Black screen of deep

Hi,
i write from Italy, sorry for my poor english.
I have a SGS I-9000 black screen of deep.
Let me explain what I did to break it.
At first, the 3-key combination worked.
By Odin JS5 I installed.
Then I installed One Click Lag Fix and Superuser Permission 2.2.2 to root permissions.
I installed everything and everything was working with a benckmark 2200.
Then I wanted to install a new ROM but I needed the kernel Speedmod.
To apply the kernel I downloaded SGS kernel flasher 1.5.9 from the Market, I copied speedmod-kernel-k13a-500hz.tar in my sd-card and I started the procedure to install the kernel.
The procedure has done its job, but when the cell is restarted did not want to leave and the 3-key combination no longer worked.
At this point I've got a USB dongle that contains the phone in download mode.
With Odin (1.0,1.3,1.7) can terminate any process of flash but everything stops at reboot the screen with the S and then turn off everything and all the keys are locked.
i tried:
Eclair JM9 with
Re-Partition ok, s1_odin_20100512.pit, CODE_I9000XWJM9.tar.md5, MODEM_I9000XXJM4.tar.md5, CSC_I9000OXAJM1.tar.md5:

Froyo JP5
no Re-Partition, s1_odin_20100803.pit, CODE_I9000RSJP5.tar.md5, MODEM_I9000XXJPP.tar.md5, CSC_I9000ITVJP3.tar.md5:
la procedura è andata a buon fine, ma il cell si blocca.
in PDA PSbl_stockJPU.tar.md5 for bootloader, but nothing.
How can i recover my SGS?
Thanks,
Max from Pisa
jpc repartition should work again

Thanks.
The ROM JPC has enabled the Recovery Mode so I could have done a general reset and the phone is finally broken.

Found another way to downgrade back too 2.2 [u8800]

Hello, while I was testing 2.3.5 witch was great except that the mobile network was not woorking at all. So I decided that I needed too downgrade. And when I was browsing the phone I accidentally found this way.
This has not been proofed by anyone else I think.
Disclaimer: I do not take the resposibility for your device.
1. Put the dload on the root of SD-card (I used 138sp4)
2. Then go to storage in preferences. Head too the bottom then choose "upgrade SD-card". The phone blacked out, started up and installed 2.2
3. The phone boots up in recovery because of many errors. I choose wipe data/chache and wipe chache and reboot.
4. The phone rebooted and I am back to 2.2.2 from 2.3.5.
This method keeps the start-boot-picture (does not know if the other sulutions keeps it).
Sorry for my bad grammar on some of the words. I just wrote them down and did not have the time to fix them.
Hmmm...interesting....maybe I should try 2.3.5 even if I have the Atmel screen. :/

I have atmel screen but I like it because i wear gloves and the screen is so sensitive that it responds thrugh them.
I was forced to downgrade from 3.2.5 to 2.2.2 for the exacly same reason and i tryied that same way you did and i couldnt do it, i got a message saying something like "there are no upgrade firmware inside the SD card". So i used the root & replace boot and recovery files to downgrade what was a sucess. Got the same issues as you with the boot but the "wipe data/chache" from recovery resolved it.

The decision to distort the battery. Insert, connect the USB to the phone (on the other end connected to a computer), press and hold keys + - food, and wait a few seconds, as soon as you see a red flashing light, unplug the data cable, you can start sewn.

After magldr, you should install Recovery (ClockWorkMod Recovery for memory repartition like 5/125/5 or else, according to desired ROM), you should find it in the first posts to each and very NAND ROM thread.
After that you can install your ROM from microSD card through CWM Recovery...
Read a little more and you should do this with ease!

LET'S START
1. Turn off the phone , and enter pink screen holding vol+ , vol- and power.
2. Change the recovery.img with the stock recovery.img for your baseband ( if you are on froyo , you must put froyo's stock recovery.img , if you're on GB put stock GB recovery.img , etc .. )
If you're with custom rom and you allready rename your stock recovery.img to "recovery_bak.img" or "recovery_backup.img" or anything else , then just delete the CWM recovery ( 5.0.2.7 ) , and rename stock recovery , to "recovery.img" .
3. Remove battery and insert it again after some seconds.
4. Connect your sd card with card reader and make a "dload" folder
5. Inside "dload" folder , paste the step1 ( UPDATE.APP ) , and paste also step 2 by renaming it to ( UPDATE_g.APP ) .... rename it exactly as you see it.

16. Hold vol+ vol- and power until phone vibrates
17. Step 3 will finish in some seconds
18. Remove battery and sd card

TO DOWNGRADE FROM ICS TO GINGERBREAD.
GUIDE FOR DOWNGRADE FROM ICS (404029 baseband) , TO GB (404020 baseband).
First of all you must be sure that you have imei and baseband.
So, you must firstly flash a jb or ics based rom, like icedroid ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2240898 ) , or any other jb rom, just to have your baseband and your imei back.
NOTE THAT YOU MUST HAVE IMEI AND BASEBAND (404029) , TO PROCEED WITH DOWNGRADE
After you're ok with imei and baseband, then you can follow the procedure for downgrade.
if your imei is zero , or your baseband unknown , you cannot proceed with downgrade.
Before you do anything, first of all you must take a backup of your imei.
Download 5iromtoolbox apk, from Pika's thread ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=24668935 ... and make a backup of your imei.
After that you can follow the procedure below to downgrade from ics to gb.
For example, if you're with icedroid rom , then ...
1. turn of the phone and remove sd card
2. i suggest to use an empty sd card 2gb for downgrade (flash official GB )
3. Connect your sd card with card reader on your pc and create a "dload" folder
4. Inside "dload" folder , paste the step2 ( UPDATE_g.APP ) , and rename it to ( UPDATE.APP ) .. download Official GB here .. http://www.mediafire.com/?7dyy01dzy68ns94
5. disconnect card reader and , Put sd card in the phone
6. Hold , vol+ vol- and power , until phone vibrates .After 3 seconds , phone will start to install step 2 , it needs almost 5-7 minutes to finish.( alternatively you can do this without battery , by holding the 3 buttons compo and insert usb cable until phone vibrates).
7. after installation completes , pull out battery and sd card
8. delete 'dload" folder from sd card and insert it to phone again
9. hold power on until phone vibrates
10. wait phone to boot on official GB
DONE
This is MY way on flashing official firmwares , i did it more than 7 times and having NO problems , everytime the installation will finished without a single problem.
When i was using cwm recovery 5.0.2.7 i was having problems but when i use the stock recovery then everything went fine .

The previous recovery I had on my phone was the 3e, is it ok if I use that one? I don't know if it is the stock recovery tho, I'm not the first owner of this phone. I buyed it long ago to someone else and it came with Stock GB ROM, not with Froyo.
I hope this works for me! I'll test it right away. Thanks for sharing!

What is the reason for renaming the step 2 update.app ? Which step flashes update_g.app? Can you also upload links to official stock roms besides the huaweidevice pages?
Well i've tried with stock GB recovery and didn't work. it get stuck on step one and says "Update Failed" also the led start blinking in red. And after first time removing the battery and starting by pressing the ON button only the system starts normally (Kalo's extreme starts in my case like nothing happened)
Step two never starts! Am I missing something?
I almost forgot to mention that inside the dload folder theres a new file called: sd_update.log
it says this: Failure: OSBL°æ±¾¼ì²éʧ°Ü. dload_sd_ram_data_proc->(retry >= DLOAD_RETRY) failed!
Now I've tried this solution and my phone got F·/$!"ed up... only a blue screen is all I see.

This was the reason i bought my second U8800 pro ...
To make tests on everything , not only roms ...
So , after a lot of flashing official firmwares , i found that this is the easiest method to flash official roms , never had a single problem when i follow this procedure .
Numpers 5 and 10 , and changing recovery to stock is the differences and works like a charm for me.

My device has some dust under glass and I am considering to take it to service.
Which rom I should install as official? Froyo, gb? And where I can download them?
BTW I am now on 4.2.2 so my way to official Froyo would be to get official GB first? but for it what recovery or image should I use? Will gingerbread version fit?

[Q] Huawei u8800 restart trouble

I am having troubles for weeks and still cant do anything
. I can only go into android recovery, can wipe data and then after 2-3 restart, huawei x5 boots. Then if i restart, there are a lot of windows appear showing stop activities. Even i cant click restart button.
So, i put first 2.3.5 then ginger bread custom app to dload in ext and int sd. Then after wiping in android recovery , i made power off and with + - and power, i made update. This time updates were successfull. Before it wa s failing.
It could make updates. But after updates, again could not start. After loading huawei logo, it restarts and cant go to desktop.
I cant change recovery because i cant install superuser because it should be restarted but if it is restarted, cant start.
I can only use sd card, after wiping data, until one restart . How can i change without rooting recovery? And i change recovery, does this help ? I dont know what the problem is.
Please help.

I also don't know what your problem is. Can you upload your logcat to pastebin.com and send the link for the log?

Hey. By chance, i dont know how exactly. In android recovery, i made a lot of time wipe data, then took of battery and volume -+ and battery to install step 2 dload. It installed but when i opened, it could not opened. SO i did 2-3 times and i tried to go into pink screen but it tried to install update, so i took battery and i opened after that. Now , the original stock rom is installed. froyo 2.2.1. I dont know how this were installed. But i restarted 3 times and no problem.
So, what i will do is those?
1- Install super user
2- Do root.
3- INstall cwm
That?
(And flash is not working and in file manager, i can only see ext and int sd, not phone memory? BUt in es exploerer, i could see /device.)
And please tell me a good rom to install. MAybe aurora 20 again but how to install, first to 2.3.5 then to aurora then v20?
Aurora ICS
Im having quite frequently restarts when turning on wifi.

OK. First, you need to upgrade to official 2.3.5. Then, use this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420728
Please follow the guide properly. It is very useful.

Yeah. That's one of the problems with Aurora.
I installed 5.0.2.8 cwm, is it latest?
And first i did superuser and root. BEcause i am afraid of again having restart prbolems if i go to 2.3.5.
I have this file
U8800_Android 2.3 V100R001C00B526G001(Normal)
It has step 1 dload.
and that
U8800 V100R001C00B136SP05CUSTC75D001(Portugal TMN)
this has step 2 dload.
In your guide i couldnot see.ARe those true for me?
****. I installed step 1 update, it tried to restart but again it went into loop . And it aumatically went into android recovery. Where cwm is, i dont know.
Now i will go back to 2.2.1, i will try. I am very boreed of this.
Hi!
Did you try B517 from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2166353
Look under official gingerbread and you can try B517 or B518.
I tried all 2.3.5 gingerbreads but after updating, it keeps restarting and automatically go into recovery and wipe data and then opens 2.2.1 . I dont know what to do.
i tried to install those you sent. All gingerbreads after updating, started to restart and went into recovery. I dont know what to do. Froyo is ok, no restart. Maybe imei or something was damageD?
No. It could be that your phone is u8800-51, but I am not sure. I don't know how to check this; it might be under the battery, or you might know how to find out on the internet.
now after wpiping data, it installs 2.3.5 . No more 2.2.1. I dont understand sometimes it resets to 2.2.1, sometimes to 2.3.5
I looked under batter, u8800.
And also i was using 2.3.5before. After i came back from aurora, this s h it started. I install cwm but still deletes it.

I am on it but after 1 restart, same thing happens, all activities ends. Nothing in it. I cant install cwm because it needs restarts.
