I/O Tab is getting ICS. - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Hi,
Since I am a I/O tab 10.1 owner and I was starting to get worried that 3.2 hasn't arrived I decided to reach out to Samsung mobile here in the Netherlands.
They told me the following:
"voor zover het bij ons bekend is, wordt de update beschikbaar voor alle versies van de Tab 10.1, dus ook voor die van jou."
Which basically means, that as far as they know, ICS will be available for all Tab 10.1, including your version.
Thoughts?

Even if it doesn't or comes way late, CM9 is being primarily developed on the I/O tab

For Netherlands 3.2 is out already, when it came i don't know but it's out on Kies already

Yes, but the IO Tab is different. It doesnt have touchwiz.

Did you say anything about getting Android 3.2? Because I believe the translation should be that "the update IS currently available for all versions of the Tab 10.1, yours included." Which the employee would see when looking up Android 3.2 for the Galaxy Tab in their databases.

Huh?

Htc announced 2.1 update in march!!!

Dear patient Hero users,
Finally HTC officially announced a release date, well not a date but a indication
On the renowned dutch website Tweakers.net an article is posted, which says HTC gives Hero an update in march!
Tweakers.net is a very up-to-date website with updates about elctronics, games and mobile phones every day.
So I can safely say this is legitimate information.
Tweakers.net:

Engadget:

Maybe some of you guys can use google translate.
If it's quiet in the bar I work this afternoon I'll try to translate some parts.
It's still waiting a while, but finally we have a indication of when we can expect the update!
Regards,
DaanJordaan
P.S. In addition to all of this, you can find a translation of the original press message in post #7
nothing new...
I don't no about that, both articles were posted yesterday I believe

Do you have any link to an official press announcement by HTC? AFAIK this was again released by "some source" who claims they have information from HTC in Belgium (or Luxemburg... or another Benelux state ).
This is not more official than the previous one from HTC Poland, which said it's coming on Feb 15th. There probably is (in both cases) some guy in the support team who didn't want to tell people to wait, but made up some estimate. However those guys in support don't know much more than we do. Maybe one week before the release they get a heads up, but not now.
First announced for january.. Then poland htc site said "february", then dutch htc site said "march", then blablabl...
It will be out when it's done that's it. There is no serious announcement.
Well yeah that's true but both tweakers and engadget are pretty renowned websites, no?
Quote from engadget:
"PR released today indicates that we can expect the Hero to get an Android 2.1 update with Sense in "mid March" according to HTC's Benelux team"
Sounds to me like a pretty solid source

Here's the link:

And here's the part that matters:
"Met deze Android 2.1-update voor onze Hero-toestellen bewijzen we opnieuw ons leiderschap en toewijding aan het Android-platform", zegt Mark Moons, Regional Director HTC Benelux. "De HTC Hero heeft zich de afgelopen periode bewezen als best verkochte Android-toestel. Door de Android 2.1-update als eerste voor dit toestel beschikbaar te stellen, belonen we gebruikers met innovatieve functionaliteit waarmee ze nog meer uit hun Android-device kunnen halen."
I'll translate it for you:
"With this Android 2.1-update for our Hero-handsets we again prove our leadership and devotion to the Android platform", says Mark Moons, Regional Director HTC Benelux. "The HTC Hero has proved itself as best selling Android-handset. By making this Android 2.1-update available, we award users with innovative functionality, with which they can get even more out of there Android-device."
Hope I gained some confidence But to be fair I'm still a bit sceptical too

Official updates don't ever need root, they probably remove your root acces since the whole rom is changed from the old one.
The video is from a custom rom, at least that's how I see it, a guys hero with a different bootscreen from the hero.
I do believe it's comming in march.

yeah all leaks from new devices like HTC Bravo also show the classic sense UI. so it seems like the htc espresso UI was not meant for other devices. LUCKILY! The bubbles looked like a cheap china imitation of the iphone UI.

You don't know this for sure since the final htc sense version isn't released yet?
As said before it's a custom rom showed on that video, I found a reference to lox and belhaams (???) on another website.
Still i'd hate the bubble, so I would be pleased if they left it out after all

I do believe it's comming mid march, I read the article and it says that htc as a company released this news. Not some employee of htc poland who wanted some attention
I dunno, I haven't seen a single rom which had handwriting recognition (especially made for sense ui) in the call app. Or the icons in the menu.
Granted, I don't really try all the roms here.
It might be a leak ot something, but it doesn't seem like a rom I have seen yet.
It's not official, until it's from HTC website don't beleive what you read. Your all gettin sucked into the online hype
All the rumours where just a marketing stunt to keep selling Hero's under fals promises.
Soon HTC will apologise for not bringing out any update at all.

Gingerbread coming to Advent Vega

@AdventVega Re: Android 2.3, we're concentrating on getting Vega's into the hands of everyone who wants them, next step will be updates!
Seems like if we don't get Gingerbread from Viewsonic we should at least be able to get it via a VEGAn build
http://phandroid.com/2010/12/08/as-...lenished-manufacturer-commits-to-android-2-3/
good news for sure.
I am sure either the Vega or Zpad fokes will get this going before VS
I don't get why a company cannot focus on both things at same time? They seem like VERY different problems.
AWESOME. This makes the work on the alpha worth it even more. we might have issues porting it, but I'm sure we can flesh it out eventually.
I'm not betting on the TnT devs to roll this out anytime soon, but maybe they'll surprise us.
Good news, but I wish they would release the Kernel source asap.
And rather than Gingerbread, maybe they could work on releasing the Honeycomb as soon as it gets available....
The Point of View Mobii TEGRA Tablet 10 is the exact same device as the Advent Vega...
I Believe the Advent Vega is only sold in the UK, where the PoV Mobii 10 is sold on the main land...
I have A PoV Mobii 10 and am currently running the latest Vega ROM (1.06.5) with Paul's MCR Add-On r6, which I gladly paid for (Ad Free subscription)...
I noticed there's a substantial difference between the Dutch and English version of the FAQs on the Point of View - The Club website.
In English they say:
Can I update my tablet to android higher than 2.2 ?
No current version will only support 2.2 there will be a new model coming next year which will support 3.0
Click to collapse
(Posted late 2010, so 'next year' meaning 2011.)
However in Dutch, they say:
Kan de tablet worden geupdate naar een Android versie hoger dan 2.2 ?
Voorlopig niet. Wij zijn momenteel bezig met een update naar Android 2.3. Deze update staat gepland voor 2011.

which translates to:
Can the tablet be updated to a version higher than Android 2.2?
Not yet. We are currently working on an update to Android 2.3. This update is scheduled for 2011.

If we go by the Dutch FAQs we will have an official Gingerbread (2.3) release coming in 2011.
If we go by the English FAQs we will have an offical Honeycomb (3.0) release coming for a similar device in 2011.
(They already announced the PoV Mobii 10 with builtin 3G, so I strongly believe this is the 'new model' they are referring to!)
Either way: Good news!
I am sure we will have a CM7 or other Gingerbread based rom on the vega before an official one anyway.

Fair enough, but after playing around with Oxygen for bit, I went back to a Sense rom, not too much to get excited about in my eyes. I thought Froyo made a bigger improvement over all, though I do like the Gingerbread keyboard but that's available in the market anyway

I'm not saying Oxygen isn't speedy, cos it is. But I just felt Gingerbread was still a bit buggy so I'm now using AlexV's Froyo Sense v2.1. I like the overall Sense theme and with launcherpro everything runs nice and smooth Also found the Sense kernels to be a bit better on battery life for some reason.

ICS will be released late Q1, says Samsung

Just read on Samsung Norway's Facebook page that ICS for the Note and the SII will be released at the end of march.
"Samsung planlegger å lansere Android Ice Cream Sandwich til Galaxy S II og Galaxy Note mot slutten av første kvartal i år. Når mer info kommer så legger vi det ut her på vår Facebook-side!"

Whoops, wasn't the figure of speech I was going for.
I hate Samsung. They are doing this 4.0 firmware terribly slow. They don't care about us. All that interests them is money.
Why Huawei did 4.0 firmware so fast for 'Honor'?! Official and final release, but samsung can't even release alpha\beta of ICS! [mod edit - watch language].
I think Samsung Norway is just playing it safe.
Samsung announced Q1, why risk a backlash by promising a premature date. I highly doubt Samsung would choose to make such a statement through a Norwegian facebook page..
That being said.. ICS is probably not coming till late march in any case..

The Verizon version will have camera drivers which are basically all that is lacking from making CM9 perfect.

I saw that as well. That literally sucks.
That bites as there's no reason not to. I had the choice of the A500 or the A501 and thought I'd like the option of using my tablet ANYWHERE, not just near wifi access points.... They're not that easy to find in rural Australia that are free to use...
Seeing as how the A500 is getting an upgrade I don't understand why Acer are being such dicks about getting the A501 users the update too, surely the kernel isn't that much different.... This is a good way to loose customer support, and I do have a lot of people who ask which new phone or tablet to get... This makes Acer look bad because I say its bad and my many friends (who have NO idea about a lot of technology) then parrot this to others. Its called word of mouth, it can make or break a product....
Something for Acer, and all other manufacturers, to think about.
