Just read on Samsung Norway's Facebook page that ICS for the Note and the SII will be released at the end of march.
"Samsung planlegger å lansere Android Ice Cream Sandwich til Galaxy S II og Galaxy Note mot slutten av første kvartal i år. Når mer info kommer så legger vi det ut her på vår Facebook-side!"
English:
"Samsung is planning to release Android Ice Cream Sandwich for the Galaxy S II and the Galaxy Note at the end of Q1 this year. When we get more info, we'll post it here on our Facebook page!"

So.. now we know!
Yes!!! Cant wait.
Hmm, just noticed that i posted this in the Q&A section. Feel free to move it to General.
Not good news for me. I can't keep the same phone for 3 months! I'm sure I'll be back eventually though.
waiting for alpha release...
Yeah I wonder why we haven't seen a leak yet :-(

Hope so, cause after the 2.3.6 and La4 update when I go through the home screens they lag and jerk, they were so smooth and quick before the updates

I can't stay with the same partner for longer than 3 months either.
Whoops, wasn't the figure of speech I was going for.
I hate Samsung. They are doing this 4.0 firmware terribly slow. They don't care about us. All that interests them is money.
Why Huawei did 4.0 firmware so fast for 'Honor'?! Official and final release, but samsung can't even release alpha\beta of ICS! [mod edit - watch language].
I think Samsung Norway is just playing it safe.
Samsung announced Q1, why risk a backlash by promising a premature date. I highly doubt Samsung would choose to make such a statement through a Norwegian facebook page..
That being said.. ICS is probably not coming till late march in any case..

That means leaks will be coming spon hopefully.
GALAXY NOTE
New status from Samsung Norway (they answered some questions)
(translated)
1. Ice Cream Sandwich will be released for the following devices at the end of Q1: Galaxy S II, Galaxy S II LTE, Galaxy Note, Galaxy R, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy Tab 8.9, Galaxy Tab 7.7 og Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus.
2. ICS comes with Touchwiz!
3. No, Galaxy S Plus will not get ICS.

I'm sure they are working on Touchwiz 5 for the GS3.
I really expect some official ICS news from them next month on MWC.
Like Asus did with their transformer on CES.
It will be a long wait, this Gingerbread OS thing needs a drastic change on our GNotes and soon.

Samsung has cemented its plans for the roll-out of Ice Cream Sandwich, and it looks likely to land on most of its top drawer Android devices. This (unsurprisingly) includes the Galaxy S II, its LTE variant, the Galaxy Note, the Galaxy R and whole range of Samsung tabs, from the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus to the Galaxy Tab 10.1. The update is penned to arrive first on both the Galaxy S II and Note in Q1 2012, with other devices following, although the Korean giant says that separate announcements will be made on the finer points -- depending on the "market situation and carriers' requirements". Source: Engadget
I for one, cannot wait for this - BUT to be honest, I am actually looking forward for a pure AOSP ROM of ICS on the Tab 10.1

From what they've implied, Touchwiz will mainly be support software for better hardware. It will fade as a UI.
waiting for it badly
I hope they roll out OTA a bit quicker than they've managed with 3.2.. Sure, we are many who know how to download a release to flash with odin, but that's still kind of a bother compared to just accepting an OTA ;-)
Honestly, with CM9 coming to the GT10.1, I really don't care about what Samsung is pushing (except, of course, the improvements it may bring to custom ROMs...).
As someone who owned two Samsung supported phones before my Nexus S (Moment and Epic 4G) how is Samsung with tablet support? My experience with them for phone support is that they have no clue what they are doing with software, always late with deadlines, and what they do send out is lackluster. Hence I grabbed a Nexus S since Google supports that.. I took a gamble with the tab..

They're getting the hang of the software thing, but they also add quite a bit of good stuff to their devices that you can't see. (codecs, drivers, etc...)
Hopefully what that guy ^ said is true and they don't focus on the UI at all this time.
So we will be getting ics after march as galaxy s2 and galaxy note will get it the first 3 months and only after that to the other devices ie galaxy tab
So my bet is still with cm9

They refer to Verizon. What about WiFi-only GT 10.1 devices? ICS this yes? LOL
The Verizon version will have camera drivers which are basically all that is lacking from making CM9 perfect.
I think it´s sad that the mobile providers are this slow pushing new software to their customers. Google already moved on to Jellybean :-/

"As promised, Samsung is finally rolling out Android 4.0 to Galaxy S II users in South Korea today, and has also announced the first details of European availablity. Poland, Sweden, and Hungary will also be getting the update today, with more countries on the way — and the UK could be one of the next up. A tweet from Brendan Arndt of UK carrier Three has revealed that their final build of Ice Cream Sandwich is currently undergoing internal testing."
I'm sure all of you know what this means for us Note users. Can't be much longer now before we see ICS. Looks like Samsung might make good on its estimate for ICS delivery.
Taken from Twitter
Well March 10 came and went without the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Galaxy S II, but hey what’s a few extra days? If you remember, we posted that earlier today a tweet was pulled by SK Telecom announcing that ICS would arrive on March 13. It was pulled because Samsung wanted to make the official announcement, which they just did via Twitter and Facebook. Here’s what they said on Facebook:
We’re thrilled to announce that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be served to GALAXY S II users in the European countries including Poland, Hungary and Sweden, as well as Korea today, and gradually roll out to other markets.
ICS for GALAXY Note, GALAXY S II LTE, GALAXY Tab 8.9 and 10.1 will follow soon.

I would expect to see the Galaxy Note and others to get ICS by May. If you’re in the U.S., you’re probably wondering when ICS will make its way stateside. Unfortunately I don’t have any confidence that we will get a taste until at least the Summer.
Also the Gingerbread firmware update for the Galaxy S, Galaxy Tab, etc. is quite interesting in that Face Unlock and Photo Editor will make it’s way to these devices. It’s unlikely these devices will ever see ICS, but at least Samsung is trying to bring some its features to these devices.
Source - TalkAndroid
ICS in the USA is at the hands of the CARRIERS. I wouldn't count on Verizon or AT&T releasing it unless it snows in July LOL.
Another reason to buy full price, international versions. Most will get any updates way before (if ever) a carrier branded version.
Heck, I got my note in late December and have had 3 updates (GB). The carrier notes have had how many updates? Not sure, but are they even on 2.3.6?

Cosmetically different.
Does not seem to add much in terms of function for most users.
Imilka's asop is something worth trying out. It has somebugs but not a big issue. However still find GB roms to be better and faster.

New browser and hardware acceleration alone makes me want ics, not to mention the other features.

I really dont understand what makes Samsung take so long for Note, if they have already done with SII. My opinion: except the S Pen app remaining things on Note are similar to SII. Porting S Pen should not take much time.

Generally the country code does not matter as long as your language is included and as long as your language is a widely spoken one like English, German, French or Spanish this should be the case with every release.

My guess is that it'll be released when jellybean gets released for GS2s with DBT. It's strange what's happening with jellybean on our little brother as it's only been released for 3 CSCs yet.

Bit of a rant: somewhat disappointed with the eternal delays. Don't really care for JB specifically as much as the touchwiz enhancements, improved Samsung keyboard (swiping+numbers row in one) and contact load up delay fix.
When the original Note came out, everybody said forget about touchwiz upgrades, Samsung never did it in the past, upgrading to another major version. We kind of accepted it. The majority of us were still content with having this little (big) wonder.
And then came some touchwiz updates with ICS. Shortly after, we were promised S III and Note 2 like features in the JB update. That was when? back in October or November? Which kind of set our hopes high, and got me thinking 'Well done Samsung, that's a good one'
Now it's just silly how low a priority Samsung has given the Note following the Note 2 release. Although I hate how apple controls and restricts its devices, you got to give it to them: they do maintain a reasonably steady stream of updates.
So here's hoping Germany's will be out somewhat faster than 1st of March (or a little later, or whenever, or whatever )
If you're buying a flagship device (like the Note and GS2 were) then you should expect at least 2 major OS updates imo. iPhones normally get 2 or 3 so top end Android devices should get the same in order to keep up with the competition.

You forgot that Apple develops its own software for their own hardware
And iOs never had so many new features in one update as android has. Look, jb brought all new experience with project butter and ics made the ui really good.
What makes apple? Multitasking in one year, folders in next one, than cydia and notification Drawer... So, I hope you understand what I mean.
And to the op, although I leave in Germany, I was born and lived in Ukraine for 15 years, and what I can say:don't trust them.

iOS was just updated to 6.1. iPhone 3GS, which came out in 2008 with iOS 2.0, is still supported and updated today. Support and updates for android devices is utter crap compared to what apple does. It's a shame. and needs to change.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 may soon see an update to the latest version of Android. The latest rumor points to a Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.2.2 update in May or June, along with a Galaxy S3 4.2.2 update.
This is good news for owners of the popular Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3, but it is likely that this update will come after the announcement of Android 5.0 (Key Lime Pie) at Google I/O on May 15th.
Samsung recently pushed out Android 4.1.2 updates to several versions of the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 2 is also running Android 4.1.2 on some carriers.
The latest news comes from SamMobile’s twitter account, claiming the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.2.2 update and the Galaxy S3 Android 4.2.2 updates are coming soon, specifically in May or June.
Samsung did not announce which features specifically will appear in a Samsung Galaxy note 2 or S3 update, but based on leaks we expect Smart scroll and the Smart pause feature to make an appearance. We may also see further support for Multi-View on the Galaxy S3 in the U.S. and enhanced motion control.
In any case, expect a three-month wait for the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.2.2 updates to hit the U.S. carriers after the initial release. According to an alleged Samsung leak, the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy note 2 are also in line for an update to Android 5.0, but the timing of that rumored update is unknown.
