Tell your story! - Bravo General

I'm creating this to see what everybody had been through before the bravo. Maybe you're a new smart phone user or maybe you've had your fair share of smart phones this forum is to let everyone get to know each other.
I had a backflip, blackberry curve, and iPhone 3gs before my bravo.

Before BRAVO I had a Moto Cliq, but I still own 3 Android phones alogn with BRAVO:
2 Cliq XT and a Backflip.
And a dump phone Moto VE66 (not so dump)
-------------------------------------------------------
I wanna stay with this phone for some time, I really wait that the camera is fixed on gingerbread!!
And someday we can use ICS with kernel changes.

First smartphone. Hoping to do some testing soon.

I have a bravo. Before a solstice. Before that, razr's. A v3m, v3r and v3c. All were running custom roms (thanks to modmymoto.com) and sold later on. Bravo is my first "smart" phone but solstice was my first touch screen.
And my bravo is rooted, unlocked, and overclocked.
Sent from my MB520 using XDA App

Its my First Android, i like! but i hope have ICS or Gingerbread soon haha

This Bravo is my first smart phone. It came with Froyo and so far I have been unable to root it (which was easy on my Nook Color which has CM7). I have service with Consumer Cellular and would like to be able to turn off 3G (wi-fi does all I need but my plan which has a limited data quota still burns up a lot of bytes).

I came from Nexus one on T-Mobile. When I signed up I couldn't find the phone I really liked and att was giving away bravo for free.
I actually like some blur features like the email client, exchange enhancements n1 soap gingerbread did not have.

[Q] How does motorola treat you?

Hey guys im about to buy the Atrix. but i wanted to get a feel of what you motorola users think of the way the company treats you as customers. Ive had motorola before and i love the devices but ive never experienced them as a smartphone. so how does the system run? any annoying bugs? do they update pretty good?
The phones are great, but they keep their bootloaders locked down so they're not as easy to modify as say, an HTC phone. I have both an HTC Incredible and a Droid X and I feel that the Incredible is all around faster and less buggy. Just know that as long as the bootloaders remained locked, some bugs and lag just can't be fixed. All the manufacturers are lagging on updating to 2.3, so I can't single Motorola out for that.
Well samsung is lagging on 2.2 and at&T's htc won't have a ffc which I need so atrix it is
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Good...unlocked bootloaders seem like a thing of the past. You'll see more being locked down.
Then go with the atrix. I'm sure the bootloaders will be cracked eventually and then we can have our fun

Should i buy this phone now or not?

I see that now one of the biggest moders like cyanogenmod and modaco are not developing things for this phone.
And the bootloader is still not hacked.
Im searching for a phone with big community, that have non stop roms and everything.. you know.. a good android phone.
I just don't know what to do, i need to buy a phone from USA now.
The only option is the Atrix ? And its sucks right now..
What to do ?
It doesn't suck.... you're just being super dranmatic

This is help up?
If non stop roms is what makes a phone good to you, look elsewhere. This phone does not need an unlocked bootloader to kick most other phones asses.

this phone is not for you. wait for the nexus S on at&t, the lg thrill, or the samsung galaxy S 2
Idk if this is an at&t specific thing but the thunderbolt looks really nice and if it is at&t the inspire isn't bad at all, I personally love my atrix, I came from a hd2(which was constant flashing) and a nexus one(which I flashed acouple of custom roms due to stability issues), but if the phone works right and does everything you want it to there's no real reason to want custom roms
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
modaco already started its support for optimus 2x, and paul is really making good results for cwm.. the problem is that g2x is not out yet in the usa and has no confirmed release date yet.
i suggest just wait for possible phones that would be hack friendly w/ no locked bootloaders since you want lots of custom roms, probably g2x, samsung galaxy s2, lg thrill, the next nexus(nexus 2 probably?) or "some" phones from htc(i heard htc is going to be strict w/ their bootloaders on their future phones also )?

The atrix would be a better phone if it had more roms. I dont care too much for stock.

Nexus S? G2 ?
One core devices ....
So to buy the Atrix?
In the future there will be a gingerbread update right? and 1080p too?
Also it will be a strong and good devices without many roms and kernels...
And maybe it will be fully hacked ha.?
What you say.. buy it or not?
I say buy it and I agree with the people above in support of buying it as well.
You can by mine off of me if you'd like

I guarantee you the nexus s along with others will contend with this phone in the long run. The atrix has lost more than once in dogfights and comparisons. Everyone makes it seem like if u have a single core phone than your simply outdated its just a matter of people wanting to play catch up. There are only 3 dual cores on the market right now.and most of the phones out now g2 nexus s inspire and 4g vibrant are considered better once rooted and hacked.

if u feel like its ur only chance to get one now than shoot but there is barely any support for it kernel and rom wise. 2 roms are in developelment but they dont really enable much. Its a dual core whip out a rom or kernel that will blow other phones socks off. Have me running at 4.4ghz or something. My friends hacked mytouch 4g runs faster than the atrix and its single core lol

I say go ahead and buy it. I originally came from the Evo and Sprint. I originally got the Atrix but then I swapped it for the Inspire. A couple weeks later I swappd the Inspire for an iPhone 4. About two days after, that I swapped the iPhone 4 back in for another Atrix. So I basically had a chance to try out 3 of the biggest phones on Att. The reason I came back to the Atrix is because first of all, its dual core. Even though the Inspire is a great phone, its single core. Its apps that's being developed that'll only work on dual core phones.
Another reason is speed and battery life. Both of which is really great on tge Atrix and blows away a lot of other phones.
Notice in my post I meantioned that I had the iphone for 2 days....that was all I needed to know I wasn't keeping that boring device.
I think the Atrix is already a great device despite not being able to flash rims at the current moment. Like I previously said the battery life is great and the speed is amazing. So if you don't mind running stock, then go for it.

Buy the inspire. I bought mine as a backup and haven't really touched it since installing CM7. Atrix runs fine with stock. I don't understand your need for roms when it performs fine out of the box.

Don't just rush and get tgw Atrix, although I don't think we know enough to properly help you.
You said you need to get it "now", we know that, but how long are you going to be locked into the phone?
If you are just getting it foe the specs, you should really look at how you use the phone and see if dual cores is really something you want, because in my opinion (and I see myself as a heavy user) it isn't needed.
Unless you are playing Dungeon Defenders or other high end games, top tier single cored phones are good enough, don't just buy innto the hype of the specs tthat I and a lot of others did.
I got mine the day it came our here, used it, loved iit, compared to my Nexus 1 and Captivate, then took it back to ATT.
The 2.3.3 Nexus is just as fast doing pretty much everything; the battery lasts all day as well.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
You cannot legitimately compare the performance of two phones running different operating systems. The results are meaningless. Wait until the Atrix is running 2.3 and then it will be useful. I disagree that the single core phones will be equivalent under those conditions.

Motorollla could have waited until they got 2.3 on the phone but they chose to release it now and that's what we are comparing it to
Just because it is being compared aand falling up short because of the os doesn't mean you can just disregard the test all together.

Went from a nexus one to a samsung vibrant to atrix. Atrix by far has been the best experience so far. Zero lag.
The n1 had a ****ed up touch screen, even after replacement
Vibrant had awful awful gps and considerable lag compared to n1
Atrix has solved all these problems, and I could give a **** about specs. This phone just works. Just try it before you buy it. I used to load custom roms on ntt previous two phones, but that was because they needed augmentation, this phone does not. Really the build quality is right up there with the n1 or the incredible. My phone has been on for 1 day and five hours, still got ten percent battery left. Been connected to wifi the entire time. I bought the phone yesterday so you know I've been using it.
Amazing, love the high resolution, so much more breathing room. My 2 cents.

Relax. It was obvius that an older phone was going to get the update earlier than a pionner dual core phone. The Atrix is a whole new technology that is not as standar as other phones... On the other hand, just passed one month from its originally launch, what do you expect Android 6.3.5? Atrix is not a Dev phone, is a company (In fact a dual company, Motorola and At&t) personalised phone. Relax folks, it will come in time.

Yeah, I think they said "by the end of 2011" so I hope everyone likes FROzen YOgurt. We have no idea how far they are in testing Gingerbread with a full MotoBlur overlay. The DX, D2, and even the upcoming Bionic only use the MotoBlur Applications Platform that they have been working on since the release of GB and is probably easier to update. I think the Atrix is the only phone running full MotoBlur with 2.2, correct me if I'm wrong. And it seems they're putting a lot of work into that still considering the latest 4.1.57 build. I'd say not anytime before Q4 for the Atrix.
I always wondered how hard would it be for them to just throw honey comb on the atrix. The specs are the same as the xoom. Personally I don't mind waiting a bit longer if when they release ginger bread or honey comb they support dual core. I mean all the next gen phones coming out will be dual core and half of them are running the nivida tegra 2

Dear Motorola Mobility,
Nice choice on hardware!
Feel free to continue making all the most worthless software in the world to drag down your phones... but please, make everyone's life easier and JUST UNLOCK THE BOOTLOADERS so we can take your crappy software off!!!!!!!
P.S. No one wants to pay any money for your worthless laptop attachment. Who makes a trackpad that doesn't support scrolling anymore anyways?

If there was a Blur Atrix, and a 'Nexus' Atrix w/ unlocked bootloader and current software, it is hard to imagine any knowledgeable human buying the one with Blur.

Droid 3> Or <X?

Anyone play around with the droid 3 or upgrade from the X to it? I am thinking of using my upgrade on it.. I miss having a keyboard. I was waiting for the bionic but who knows when if it will come out, plus there's no keyboard..4G really isn't relevant for where I live yet.
Idk still wait for the bionic but if you don't need the 4g then the others seem more apealing. But if you get the bionic there will be plenty of new stuff for it, no doubt they will realease honeycomb for it if its popular enough.

Xoom + DX = bluetooth tether for free without root. Also works with D1, D2, D2G, D2R2D2, and DPro. Probably will work with D3 and Bionic. Oh, and bluetooth tether with these Moto phones also will work with a Samsung Tab 10.1, and probably any other Honeycomb tablet. Regular adhoc Wifi hotspot doesn't work. Thanks Moto
You should be able to do that with any other Bluetooth Android phone, too. However, Bluetooth data transfer rates are ridiculous...you probably don't notice on 3G, but if you go to LTE, you'll see horrible performance doing that.

I've got 4G where I live already and want 4G for video chatting.
4G will provide a smoother Video chat experience when compared to a 3G connection.
Got a buddy of mine with the D3 and I was comparing it to an X2 and I would take the D3 over the X2 if I had to get a phone right now this minute. But its sounds more and more like the BIONIC is going to be the device to have. LTE and pretty much the same as the D3 in every other way. The D3 I think is a little late to the party at this point. It should have come out shortly before the but LTE push to hold people over but now I am afraid its going to get swept under the rug.
Then like some of the other posts said the Samsung devices are really frickin nice right now and that SuperAMOLED is incredible to look at.

On topic:
I would wait another couple of weeks for the bionic or any news of a SGSII. The Bionic has a home splash now at Verizon, and we all have thought for a while that August would be the right time anyways. Judge for your self from there, as the Bionic is rummored to be a slightly different beast. (probably a 3g phone vs. 4g Flagship type thing)
And less on-topic

Not Necessary. Look at the Atrix, I have some faith left for open boot loaders on future phones. Also, I love moto build quality and style. If you don't like moto phones, and the thread is asking specifically of a moto device, inside a thread for a moto device, you should probably take a long and hard look at your priorities.
Yeah besides some issues with my last DROID X Motorola has been rock solid hardware and great for reception and to me lately quality beats easy rooting. I have my X and three OG DROIDS my wife and sister are due to upgrade in november so we will see what's hot then but Motorola will still be the first phones I look at.

[Q] Bet ROM for Droid X?

Hello all. Anyone know of a good ROM for the Droid X. I a currently running 2.2.2 Froyo. ([email protected] #2) is the kernel version. Yes my Droid X is rooted using superuser v3.0.4 Thanks
release the fists of iron
Liberty 2.0 is a pretty cool ROM. It's Froyo too, so it'd be a fairly easy upgrade.
I've read that while GB ROMs are out for the DX, the wireless tether function is much harder to incorporate. Big Red worked hard on fixing the exploit that allows for wireless tethering, so if you want a ROM that can do that for free, better stick with Froyo ROMs.
My girl has a DX and I put Liberty on for her. She wanted speed, reliability, and tethering.
It runs fast, and it's smooth as silk. Her only complaint is that it's a very masculine-looking Rom - very metallic and yellow. Kinda has a quasi-military look about it. There's nothing cute and iPhoney about Liberty.
I wish the DroidX was as easy to mod as my HTC Incredible. I've been having a blast flashing stuff on my phone for over a year, the the Droid X fought me tooth and nail.
I wish the DX had the ability to run the Sense UI from HTC. I missed Sense a lot while working on that phone.

Agreed, this has no business in the dev section.
OP, take more care next time...
How about the good old stock ROM?
Advantages:
Largest user base, and by a very large margin.
No work needed to install it.
Automatic OTA updates by Verizon, even while you sleep.
Full technical support crew at Verizon store or via website; no need to hide your phone from them or play games like SBF before bringing your phone to them.
Most app developers test their apps against this ROM.
If something is really wrong with this ROM, very many people will complain.
Camera, video, HDMI output, Netflix, etc. all work fine.
There definitely are much worse ROMs out there that can cause excessive battery drain, cripple hardware features, cause apps to fail, etc.
