I was offered a droid x as a trade for my fascinate. I was wondering the pros and cons of switching to this over my fascinate.

Major con, locked bootloader, major pro, froyo. And gingerbread just around he corner, i had a fascinate since launch day, and i finally gave up on that POS
EDIT:IT ACTUALLY A GREAT PHONE, the problem is verizon and samsung didnt name it droid so they dont give a ****

Coincidence, I just came from a Fascinate. Too soon to tell which one is better, I'll let you know pretty soon.
Also, if you're thinking about flashing a custom rom, I would stay with the Fascinate. I feel that they have better development and more support for their ROMs.
Stay away from the Droid x. You cannot flash anything important due to the locked bootloader

where are you finding this fascinate stuff I can't really find to much for it on the dedicated fascinate sections. The droid x has a long list of rom developers and themes for days. the locked bootloader really sucks but by looking at the phone and all the themes out I doubt anyone who isn't in the know would know its not fully unlocked.
I hadn't been in the fascinate forums for a bit but it does look like they have quite a few things happening. Time to root wifes fascinate.
i just rooted my buddies facinate....it seemed there were many more options for it.
i dont know why; but id rather have my x....i like it a lot. i know thats no awnser.
the only awnser i can give is that the facinate seemed to have a lot more options to play with as far as customizing.
with the x you pretty much have fission, apex, liberty....the 342 leak.
I see that now one of the biggest moders like cyanogenmod and modaco are not developing things for this phone.
And the bootloader is still not hacked.
Im searching for a phone with big community, that have non stop roms and everything.. you know.. a good android phone.
I just don't know what to do, i need to buy a phone from USA now.
The only option is the Atrix ? And its sucks right now..
What to do ?
It doesn't suck.... you're just being super dranmatic

This is help up?
If non stop roms is what makes a phone good to you, look elsewhere. This phone does not need an unlocked bootloader to kick most other phones asses.

this phone is not for you. wait for the nexus S on at&t, the lg thrill, or the samsung galaxy S 2
Idk if this is an at&t specific thing but the thunderbolt looks really nice and if it is at&t the inspire isn't bad at all, I personally love my atrix, I came from a hd2(which was constant flashing) and a nexus one(which I flashed acouple of custom roms due to stability issues), but if the phone works right and does everything you want it to there's no real reason to want custom roms
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
modaco already started its support for optimus 2x, and paul is really making good results for cwm.. the problem is that g2x is not out yet in the usa and has no confirmed release date yet.
i suggest just wait for possible phones that would be hack friendly w/ no locked bootloaders since you want lots of custom roms, probably g2x, samsung galaxy s2, lg thrill, the next nexus(nexus 2 probably?) or "some" phones from htc(i heard htc is going to be strict w/ their bootloaders on their future phones also )?

Nexus S? G2 ?
One core devices ....
So to buy the Atrix?
In the future there will be a gingerbread update right? and 1080p too?
Also it will be a strong and good devices without many roms and kernels...
And maybe it will be fully hacked ha.?
What you say.. buy it or not?
I say buy it and I agree with the people above in support of buying it as well.
You can by mine off of me if you'd like

I guarantee you the nexus s along with others will contend with this phone in the long run. The atrix has lost more than once in dogfights and comparisons. Everyone makes it seem like if u have a single core phone than your simply outdated its just a matter of people wanting to play catch up. There are only 3 dual cores on the market right now.and most of the phones out now g2 nexus s inspire and 4g vibrant are considered better once rooted and hacked.

if u feel like its ur only chance to get one now than shoot but there is barely any support for it kernel and rom wise. 2 roms are in developelment but they dont really enable much. Its a dual core whip out a rom or kernel that will blow other phones socks off. Have me running at 4.4ghz or something. My friends hacked mytouch 4g runs faster than the atrix and its single core lol

I say go ahead and buy it. I originally came from the Evo and Sprint. I originally got the Atrix but then I swapped it for the Inspire. A couple weeks later I swappd the Inspire for an iPhone 4. About two days after, that I swapped the iPhone 4 back in for another Atrix. So I basically had a chance to try out 3 of the biggest phones on Att. The reason I came back to the Atrix is because first of all, its dual core. Even though the Inspire is a great phone, its single core. Its apps that's being developed that'll only work on dual core phones.
Another reason is speed and battery life. Both of which is really great on tge Atrix and blows away a lot of other phones.
Notice in my post I meantioned that I had the iphone for 2 days....that was all I needed to know I wasn't keeping that boring device.
I think the Atrix is already a great device despite not being able to flash rims at the current moment. Like I previously said the battery life is great and the speed is amazing. So if you don't mind running stock, then go for it.

Buy the inspire. I bought mine as a backup and haven't really touched it since installing CM7. Atrix runs fine with stock. I don't understand your need for roms when it performs fine out of the box.

Don't just rush and get tgw Atrix, although I don't think we know enough to properly help you.
You said you need to get it "now", we know that, but how long are you going to be locked into the phone?
If you are just getting it foe the specs, you should really look at how you use the phone and see if dual cores is really something you want, because in my opinion (and I see myself as a heavy user) it isn't needed.
Unless you are playing Dungeon Defenders or other high end games, top tier single cored phones are good enough, don't just buy innto the hype of the specs tthat I and a lot of others did.
I got mine the day it came our here, used it, loved iit, compared to my Nexus 1 and Captivate, then took it back to ATT.
The 2.3.3 Nexus is just as fast doing pretty much everything; the battery lasts all day as well.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
You cannot legitimately compare the performance of two phones running different operating systems. The results are meaningless. Wait until the Atrix is running 2.3 and then it will be useful. I disagree that the single core phones will be equivalent under those conditions.

Motorollla could have waited until they got 2.3 on the phone but they chose to release it now and that's what we are comparing it to
Just because it is being compared aand falling up short because of the os doesn't mean you can just disregard the test all together.

Went from a nexus one to a samsung vibrant to atrix. Atrix by far has been the best experience so far. Zero lag.
The n1 had a ****ed up touch screen, even after replacement
Vibrant had awful awful gps and considerable lag compared to n1
Atrix has solved all these problems, and I could give a **** about specs. This phone just works. Just try it before you buy it. I used to load custom roms on ntt previous two phones, but that was because they needed augmentation, this phone does not. Really the build quality is right up there with the n1 or the incredible. My phone has been on for 1 day and five hours, still got ten percent battery left. Been connected to wifi the entire time. I bought the phone yesterday so you know I've been using it.
Amazing, love the high resolution, so much more breathing room. My 2 cents.

My iPhone 3GS is dead, time for an upgrade, wanted to jump in the Android world, I found the spec of the Atrix really interesting but the Bootloader issues is really turning me off ... There is usually so much cool stuff out with new ROMS ... I also tend to stay has far has I can from Carrier's crap, so with that bootloader restriction it's pretty a dead project ATM ... I was wondering if we can hope anything in a short time frame (+- 6 months) ?
Thanks
I'm getting an Atrix soon and as excited as I am, I'd probably recommend getting a Nexus S or an HTC phone. You'll get the flagship Android experience with the Nexus S (or 4G if you can wait) or the HTC Sense experience which is what I originally thought Android was all about. With HTC phones though, if you want you can go with an ASOP ROM and go completely stock, or use the HTC Sense framework which really kicks the user experience up.
I'm a bit of a spec junkie but I surprisingly loved the Sense experience my HTC Desire Z provided me with. I previously owned a Sony Xperia X10 which disgusted me and really made my initial Android experience pretty sour.. missed out on Flash, missed out on updates, missed out on a ton of things and had lots of bugs. Stock Android or something HTC would probably be the way to go with the Atrix's bootloader uncertainty.
The devs on these boards are nothing short of amazing, but Motorola's really got this clamped down. I think being an Android virgin you could easily enjoy the Atrix, but stock Android and Sense are really awesome and I think everyone should experience it at least once.
I got an eLocity A7, I loved the snap of Tegra2 and Atrix specs looked really nice. I've been in the Windows Mobile 6 scene and always hated the junk carriers installed on cell phone. I always enjoyed Sense or Stock (6.5 at the time ...).
I'll stay away from Atrix until I see ROM devs ... the Desire HD seemed really nice but I'm also temped by the iPhone 4gs or 5 with the HTC Flyer combo =)
Thx for the input !

You can do just as much much with the atrix as you could with a jailbroken iphone. Coming from an iphone myself the bootloader is not a big deal. Everyone is jealous of my phone including all my iphone and evo friends. Opening up the bootloader would be extra icing on the cake.

haha that's a great analogy.
I am interested in the Atrix as well, when it comes out. However, I would be interested in flashing a stock gingerbread. As far as I understood the discussion here, the bootloader is closed, which means, if I understand correctly, will avoid the installation of another rom, won't it?
Anyone play around with the droid 3 or upgrade from the X to it? I am thinking of using my upgrade on it.. I miss having a keyboard. I was waiting for the bionic but who knows when if it will come out, plus there's no keyboard..4G really isn't relevant for where I live yet.
Idk still wait for the bionic but if you don't need the 4g then the others seem more apealing. But if you get the bionic there will be plenty of new stuff for it, no doubt they will realease honeycomb for it if its popular enough.

Xoom + DX = bluetooth tether for free without root. Also works with D1, D2, D2G, D2R2D2, and DPro. Probably will work with D3 and Bionic. Oh, and bluetooth tether with these Moto phones also will work with a Samsung Tab 10.1, and probably any other Honeycomb tablet. Regular adhoc Wifi hotspot doesn't work. Thanks Moto
You should be able to do that with any other Bluetooth Android phone, too. However, Bluetooth data transfer rates are ridiculous...you probably don't notice on 3G, but if you go to LTE, you'll see horrible performance doing that.

I've got 4G where I live already and want 4G for video chatting.
4G will provide a smoother Video chat experience when compared to a 3G connection.
Got a buddy of mine with the D3 and I was comparing it to an X2 and I would take the D3 over the X2 if I had to get a phone right now this minute. But its sounds more and more like the BIONIC is going to be the device to have. LTE and pretty much the same as the D3 in every other way. The D3 I think is a little late to the party at this point. It should have come out shortly before the but LTE push to hold people over but now I am afraid its going to get swept under the rug.
Then like some of the other posts said the Samsung devices are really frickin nice right now and that SuperAMOLED is incredible to look at.

On topic:
I would wait another couple of weeks for the bionic or any news of a SGSII. The Bionic has a home splash now at Verizon, and we all have thought for a while that August would be the right time anyways. Judge for your self from there, as the Bionic is rummored to be a slightly different beast. (probably a 3g phone vs. 4g Flagship type thing)
And less on-topic

Not Necessary. Look at the Atrix, I have some faith left for open boot loaders on future phones. Also, I love moto build quality and style. If you don't like moto phones, and the thread is asking specifically of a moto device, inside a thread for a moto device, you should probably take a long and hard look at your priorities.
Yeah besides some issues with my last DROID X Motorola has been rock solid hardware and great for reception and to me lately quality beats easy rooting. I have my X and three OG DROIDS my wife and sister are due to upgrade in november so we will see what's hot then but Motorola will still be the first phones I look at.

what's you're next phone manufacturer
and do you plan to change you're atrix in near future?
The Atrix is pretty good for me, enough so that I'm not planning on switching any time soon. As in, once my AT&T contract is up in a year, unlock it and take it to one of T-Mobile's value plans any time soon. It runs ICS so well that I'd have a hard time believing that it wouldn't be able to handle future versions of Android with an at least usable speed.
But when I do, it'll probably be a Samsung. Motorola has next to no dev support unless its a Droid (The Atrix seems like a happy accident to me from that standpoint), and HTC is half-assing its bootloader unlock solution. Software matters more to me than hardware, so its either a Nexus or something with lots of dev support, and that means Samsung.
Still waiting for the Sony Ion to surface. Thought the SGS3 would be better, so giving that a miss, and AT&T keeping One X bootloader locked just downright pissed me off. Rethinking carrier now too.

Atrix with lapdock. Nothing can beat this combo at performance/price.Just bought me one and overally satisfied. It will keep me busy for a while until motorola releases a new razr hd maxx with better specs and 3300mah battery, most importantly with unlocked bootloader. Otherwise atrix forever.
partially leaving the atrix community tomorrow. Having terrible hardware problems with my phone. The in ear speaker doesn't work. The external speaker is starting to break on me. Screen has a terrible banding around the outer edge of the phone. Bought a galaxy nexus from the play store. Hopefully this phone turns out better than the atrix for me. Doesn't Motorola realize that their snail's pace update cycle is losing them customers? That is the #1 reason I probably won't get another Motorola.
What about this one ?
http://www.bsquare.com/snapdragon-mobile-development-platform.aspx
As an international user I can tell you I´ll think very carefully wether to get another motorola or not, and probably not. I´m very happy with my atrix but the fact that being looking for AT&T support, updates and roms obligates me thinking the true necesity to overcome this mobile life style, when there are companies like samsung which delivers international support by the minute.
If you are an US costumer you are relly good with Moto, as their upgrade/update forum claims to unleash ICS for every US device quite soon. Not the same to Int´l which still is in "Studying for future development" or whatever...
So, be wise and decide well
Already left. (not by choice, i dropped my atrix and repaired the screen. I broke it again a week later and also the charging port.) Picked up a Samsung Galaxy Note on att. I love it so far, not too sure on software support from them, but i love the phone. Id take a Tegra or OMAP over this darn Snapdragon though...
