Hello all. Thought I would post this here in the hopes of getting some comments from Incredible owners.
I currently own a D2G but might have the opportunity to trade for an Incredible. Asking for comments here because while I do know my phone well I don't know much about the HTC.
Specifically...
How's the ROM support...currently D2G has one option (Fission) and I am the type that likes to bounce from ROM to ROM to make my phone feel "new" again
The D2G is wicked fast...never any lag in my experience...how about the HTC?
Hardware keyboard is not a concern...I never use it.
I know this is all personal preference but the HTC is coming up on being a year old I think so I'm looking for some honest and forthright OPINIONS here
Thanks for reading

If your worried about having the newest and best stick with your D2G. If you want ROM support go to the Inc. Honestly wait for the Thunderbolt cause that is going to be the Inc's big brother. I expect alot of ROM support for that.

A few friends on mine have the Droid2 and personally I loathe it.
Using the inc is so fast and smooth, plus the huge developer community. But like rich said, the Thunderbolt is coming out soon if you need the latest and greatest
I was offered a droid x as a trade for my fascinate. I was wondering the pros and cons of switching to this over my fascinate.

Major con, locked bootloader, major pro, froyo. And gingerbread just around he corner, i had a fascinate since launch day, and i finally gave up on that POS
EDIT:IT ACTUALLY A GREAT PHONE, the problem is verizon and samsung didnt name it droid so they dont give a ****

Coincidence, I just came from a Fascinate. Too soon to tell which one is better, I'll let you know pretty soon.
Also, if you're thinking about flashing a custom rom, I would stay with the Fascinate. I feel that they have better development and more support for their ROMs.
Stay away from the Droid x. You cannot flash anything important due to the locked bootloader

where are you finding this fascinate stuff I can't really find to much for it on the dedicated fascinate sections. The droid x has a long list of rom developers and themes for days. the locked bootloader really sucks but by looking at the phone and all the themes out I doubt anyone who isn't in the know would know its not fully unlocked.
I hadn't been in the fascinate forums for a bit but it does look like they have quite a few things happening. Time to root wifes fascinate.
i just rooted my buddies facinate....it seemed there were many more options for it.
i dont know why; but id rather have my x....i like it a lot. i know thats no awnser.
the only awnser i can give is that the facinate seemed to have a lot more options to play with as far as customizing.
with the x you pretty much have fission, apex, liberty....the 342 leak.
Has anyone else noticed that the ATRIX forums have been extremely dead lately? The development section mostly, nothing new has been coming out and things haven't been being updated in a while. are all the devastating focusing on getting cm7 fully functional or has everyone just disappeared?

No new ROMs for weeks, maybe over a month... webtop2sd project abandoned... aside from the CM7's prebetas and faux's OC, it's like everyone has moved on to brighter shores, like photon or bionic...
It's all over. Dead before it even got started. The developers have abandoned us.
Now we'll never be like one of the more "alive" forums, like the Captivate or the Inspire forums...we'll never have a bunch of the same ROM's that are just themed differently.

Love my Atrix (first Android phone), but once the Nexus Prime is released... why wouldn't you jump ship?? Guess I can still my ATRIX to test dev builds and help out around here too

The Atrix has 3 major waves.
The first was unlocking the bootloader, and that opened a whole set of new ROMS and excitement.
The second is for the long awaited CM7, and what it will bring to the table.
The final major wave will be Ice Cream Sandwich. Even if ICS never becomes "official", there will be many ROMS based upon it.
Still plenty of life and goodness coming down the road...

The days of rapid development for one device are over. Custom ROMs used to add features you couldn't get anywhere else but the gap is closing. Android is becoming a mature OS. Pick your hardware and enjoy.

And by official CM7, I mean a build specifically for the prime, its hardware, etc. form the CM7 team themselves… not to knock the Atrix Dev teams release thus far, which I believe to be a wonderful effort.

Er, because I don't want to spend 100s of dollars on something of comparable spec, and I'm v happy with Atrix battery, form factor, screen res and voice quality/speaker quality?
Alien, Aura etc. is pretty much debloated, CM7 or further revisions of above will complete the picture.
They're playing coy but CM has hit its peak. We'll get it here, but beyond this generation of phones I wouldn't expect much.
CM can't really "hit their peak" as the very base they use for their releases, is virtually a constant beta test(...android). That being said, I don't see any reason why CM can peak, when new features are and will continue to be pushed into Android daily. Honeycomb was mainly a release to make Android viable to tablets, so in the phone scene, CM skipped a gen as there are no phones(to my knowledge) that run Android 3.0. The CM team can't hit their peak until Google hits their peak.
With that being said, it's true that the forums are quiet lately, but aside from a few very difficult features, we don't really have any gripes, do we? CM is the end of any androids open development in my opinion anyway, after that...the only next best thing is...a higher version CM.
I think everyone is just itching for something to flash.
Xda app via atrix
I simply mean their relevance has already crested. CM breathed new life into old hardware and extra features onto others to build their reputation but it seems Google and OEMs gave begun integrating many of CMs differentiatiors. Eventually it just can't have the impact it used to. That doesn't make it irrelevant, just less of a prime factor in purchasing decisions.
Don't get me wrong, I've been a CM faithful since before the Droid blew up Android.. but the reasons listed above combined with the extra projects they are all getting into seem to form an obvious case for lowered expectations.

There is though. CM is Android without the manufacturers mess of a launcher. Google has definitely integrated lots of CM's contributions to Android, but those can be pretty hard to see if the launcher in question is a big piece of crap..like Motoblur.
Honestly, I find it hard to see why people are upset with things in their current form. Motorola is going to be adding Webtop into all of it's higher end handsets, and webtop is pretty awesome. It's functions like that, that make it worth jumping from a bustling community like the Captivate, to the dead Atrix community, like I did. I don't miss my Captivate at all. I just miss Cyanogenmod.

Im sure there are people that will dissagree with me but I love my dx and have had very little trouble with it. If you can get it cheap go for it why not there are some good roms out there if you dont like the stock system. Lately I have flashed alot of different roms on it and its really not bad to work with I'm still having fun with it
I'd have to say, after about 18-19 months with one, you should pass. I'd get an HTC Incredible/2, or Thunderbolt. I had a lot of problems with mine, and I'm actually on my 3rd replacement device. I've had strangers tell me of similar problems.
I've had much better luck since rooting and installing Liberty ROM v3, but overall I'd say there are better devices out there.
I've also sworn off Motorola for good, or at least until they get rid of Blur. They really know how to ruin a good piece of hardware. It's just terribly slow and unstable. If you get a DX, plan on rooting and flashing something else onto it.
Oh, and as another user has already mentioned, the bootloader can cause problems, especially with the latest update. You have to avoid update .621 if you want to flash a different ROM onto it. I don't think other devices are as problematic in this regard.
OK for a good price. It is a little larger than most phones (a little big to place in a pocket .)
I'm not sure if you're talking from a straight user perspective or someone who is going to muck around a bit with their phone customizing it. For a straight user who isn't going to root it and/or go beyond what Verizon wants you to do with it then I'd say you should skip it and just get whatever new mid to top of the line Android is within your budget.
If you're looking for a phone you can muck around with and truly customize on the cheap then I would definitely recommend the X, especially since you can pick them up for about $100 off of craigslist

I have to disagree with this guy. First off it doesn't matter if the device has blur or not because you can install a custom rom that is ASOP and doesn't even have blur. Motorola in my opinion makes the best hardware and just because the bootloader is locked doesn't mean you can't do a lot with the device. This forum is DEAD for the droid x. Look on rootzwiki and you will find a ICS gem named Gummy rom from Kejar. You won't be disappointed.
As others have mentioned it depends on your situation. If you're looking for a phone to purchase for cheap without a contract, then yes, the X might be one to look at.
Personally if I had to look for something cheap right now my search would be for something with an unlocked bootloader, some decent ROM support and decent battery life.
I am guessing the Incredible 2 might fit that bill.... I'm not sure of any issues the phone may have natively but it is a more powerful phone. Probably would be a bit more expensive though.
NOTE: IF YOU BUY A DROID X AND INTEND TO ROOT/ROM (you should be planning this b/c the stock Droid X is slow and clunky) MAKE SURE IT HASN'T BEEN UPDATED TO SYSTEM VERSION .621.
.605, .602, .596, .595, .340, etc are all fine.

Actually, I think we're agreeing. I was saying if you get one, plan to flash it and get rid of Blur.
I've had hardware issues with it also, but overall, with the right Custom ROM, it can be a good experience.
As someone else has noted, if you aren't planning to root/flash this phone, you're better off with a more user-friendly device, like a Samsung or an HTC.
But, again, just my $0.02.
I still have a Droid X purchased in the release date and I never had problems with, however is getting outdated and becoming slow so it will be replaced by a HTC Rezound next week.
Great phone if you can find a cheap one in great shape. Lots of Dev community support.

I'm running MIUI 4-5-2012 by Wizard0f0. It's the only currently maintained ROM that appears to be stable, fast AND have almost no bugs. Most of the other ROMs (including gummy) have to many bugs for my taste (like camera or MMS or Bluetooth not working properly)
That said, I'm keeping my eyes on gummy and a few others in hopes of a fast, stable, debugged ROM with slightly better battery life. I'm not holding my breath though b/c the other ROMs seem more focused on incorporating ICS framework than getting everything working as it should. Oh well, I guess we'll just wait and see.
Now i am using x if you getting this in a good price than you should buy it.. It is good because of its nice features ..You won't be disappointed...Don't think too much about that just buy it..

I don't know as I'd necessarily agree with that. 4.3" really isn't that abnormally big any more. You have devices like the Galaxy Nexus, Razor, etc coming out now at every turn. They all seem to be going between 4" and 4.65" or something.
I have one I use on WiFi only, really happy with it. Would be happier with an unlocked bootloader.

Considering it's age, the G1 seems to have more staying power than most phones. The development keeps going and going.
What do you think is the reason? The "cool factor" of it being the first Android phone? Or because it is so easy to root and change? Or is it something else entirely?
Sent from my HTC G1 using xda premium
Yes there's the coolness factor but lots of phones are easy to root. I sugest it is that the android dev scene started here and that there is such a wide range of past support that it is easy to build on this knowledge. Also the price of a g1 is minimal compared with almost any android phone. All that said I'm sure many including myself has set to see a better phone in the lines of hardware. If this phone had more ram, internal memory, faster cpu and gpu, I would probably own it untill the day of my death. Just hope htc makes a g3 with the looks and feel of the g1 in mind - id be willing to spend a lot of money on that

OBD2 Car Diagnostic Scanner (that is how I made the money)
Fairly good Internet Browser

To be honest, the phone more or less fell into my lap. I still enjoy messing around with it, because it is slow. When you have so little, it makes one conscious about development habits and tweaking in order to make things simplistic and efficient.
Also, I'm a developer in devices/systems/architecture, so I find this kind of thing interesting to mess around with.

You brought up a REAL good point. The amazing amount of memory/speed/storage makes for very sloppy code. I started off on an ancient Digital/16 that you had to program in binary through toggle switches.
Old/slow hardware makes you think about what you want to do.

If someone released a new phone with the same form factor and keyboard as the G1, but updated specs I would buy it in a heart beat.
Full hardware keyboard in a present-day smartphone is rare. Manufacturers of smartphones are going to make as thin phone as possible.
HTC Dream is not thin, but for this great keyboard, who cares!
G1 was my first Android experience. I really liked it. Although I have switched to Desire S, I still have good, old G1 in my desk drawer. It was still pleasure to use it again when my Desire broke and I needed to send it for repair. I'm never going to sell my G1.
Maybe it's not powerful phone, but thanks to developers, we have huge number of custom ROMs (personally I think that 1.6 is the best for G1).
Easy to root, to flash custom ROMs, It's cheap (in PL you can buy used for 200+ PLN - it's about $60). I think that's why it's still supported by developers.
I'm not a developer, just custom ROMs user, but testing and finding best ROM for me as user is a nice thing to do. Now I am using my G1 for chatting on jabber when lying in bed.
I wonder what are unusual uses of old Dream? Maybe PC Remote?
UPDATE
Still using my G1 as my "main" phone (Actually, my only phone).
Running CronMod's GB Rom, and very happy.
My "not thin" G1 is freakin' HUGE with the extended battery and big back cover. As a plus point, I have NEVER "lost" it in seat cushions. Plus, the thickness makes it easier (for me) to hold.
I love all the apps available, from XDA Developers, to the HP Printing app.
About the only real thing I do not like is Netflix is pure hell on this phone. Not netflix's problem. The lack of horsepower really shows up with this app.

For me it started off being the perfect combination of QWERTY keyboard and would work with my carrier. Now, though, it's the ease of use. Rooting it was no trouble, there's a huge variety of mods with a wide range of features v. performance options and even thought I've tried other QWERTY phones, I still love this keyboard better than any other. Plus, any time I need to replace something on mine, there's no shortage of ones kicking around for spare parts. They're the Jeep Wrangler of android phones, if you want to keep yours running, it's ridiculously easy. Love that.
