Incredible vs. D2G - Droid Incredible General

Hello all. Thought I would post this here in the hopes of getting some comments from Incredible owners.
I currently own a D2G but might have the opportunity to trade for an Incredible. Asking for comments here because while I do know my phone well I don't know much about the HTC.
Specifically...
How's the ROM support...currently D2G has one option (Fission) and I am the type that likes to bounce from ROM to ROM to make my phone feel "new" again
The D2G is wicked fast...never any lag in my experience...how about the HTC?
Hardware keyboard is not a concern...I never use it.
I know this is all personal preference but the HTC is coming up on being a year old I think so I'm looking for some honest and forthright OPINIONS here
Thanks for reading

If your worried about having the newest and best stick with your D2G. If you want ROM support go to the Inc. Honestly wait for the Thunderbolt cause that is going to be the Inc's big brother. I expect alot of ROM support for that.

A few friends on mine have the Droid2 and personally I loathe it.
Using the inc is so fast and smooth, plus the huge developer community. But like rich said, the Thunderbolt is coming out soon if you need the latest and greatest

Jumped the samsung ship

After receiving the fascinate on release day, I, along with all of you have been waiting patiently (ahem) for the Froyo drop. After watching these forums and trying to learn all I could, I tried every combination that has been modded or developed here to help satisfy the need for something better than stock. I wanted to thank all of you who have been working on different things to help make this phone better in the absence of OEM support. A lot of the things delivered did make the phone better, but I always kept having to load another work around to do something I was used to doing on my old droid 2. Today, after playing with a Droid X, I decided to go ahead and dump the fascinate in favor of the X. Perhaps a mistake, but for now, I don't think so....my empty anticipation has dissipated until I start wanting gingerbread on the X. From all of my hours of watching, reading and learning from you all, it seems like the support is just there from Moto and I've never felt that from Samsung. If things work out like they normally do for me, you should be getting Froyo tomorrow thanks to me getting rid of mine. This is my first post in XDA, as I usually spend my time searching and reading to learn from the experts and I wanted to take the chance to say thank you before I start spending my time in the droid threads.
paid full price for a dx??
Okay?
It'll probably be out soon you know.. lots of Galaxy S phones are getting one way or another now. Were bound to get an official release soon. Good luck with the DX.
As for paying full price.. I paid retail for my Fascinate. I had an OG Droid prior. I plan on purchasing all my phones straight up from here on out. Screw contracts..

Hate to see you go. But thanks for the good wishes.
I dropped the fascinate for the incredible... hopefully it'll hold me over until my upgrade lol

I played with both the Fascinate and the Incredible while at best buy. The Fascinate just felt like a better phone to me when using both. I'm happy with my purchase. The Incredible is a great phone though, great dev community. Enjoy your phone!
The Incredible is a fantastic phone, with one fatal flaw: its absolutely terrible GPU. I had one after owning the Droid 1, right before the Fascinate came out, and while it was tempting to switch to the Fascinate in general once they announced its release date was inside my 30-day return period (better hardware specs all-around), the graphics performance was what absolutely cinched it.
I remember trying to run on the Incredible... I think it was Asphalt 5 (though this goes for plenty of other 3D-intensive games I can't specifically remember) and it was like playing a slideshow most of the time.
Meanwhile, the Droid 1, despite its almost half-speed CPU compared to the Incredible, was able to smoothly run any game I threw at it.
not me.
Not me,
I got the Fascinate for it's hardware....
When we do get Froyo, that will just add to it's goodness!!!

Same here, the incredible was an option, but it is basically a redone droid eris. While decently powerful the fascinate was the better choice, even with 2.1.

I totally respect your decision, but I imagine it will be one you regret. I think people forget that we have only been waiting for Froyo a little more than three months. The droid x waited this long also. Other phones have waited much longer for promised updates.
Btw: As someone already pointed out, you call a locked bootloader better support?

I second this. I got my Fascinate from Craigslist and will never again buy a phone on contract.
As far as Froyo, if the update is half-assed (Droid Eris style), I'll be installing a nice clean Froyo rom the friendly neighborhood developers again.
The Froyo upgrade for the Droid 1 was actually pretty amazing performance-wise, but that's neither here nor there.
And the Droid X took a bit over two months to get Froyo. We've already been waiting three and a half months.
So while the Fascinate is a great phone as-is, from an objective point of view, the upgrade wait is unjustified and I feel buyers have every right to be disappointed -- especially when the manufacturer just launched a phone running 2.3.
I think the incredible is just a tad more than a re done fascinate. That's a little bit of a understatement. The dev community is flying on that phone.
Edit: flacyn. You are exactly right. I will agree locked bootloader doesn't mean no support. Just no support from modders. And launching a gingerbread phone while your flagship line sits on eclair is dissapointing.

Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I'll go as high as $51 because it doesn't have froyo.
good day.
me personally i dont plan on playing many games on this things other than like angry birds.. so the only hardware thats appealing is the screen...
I meant to say the incredible is a tad bit more than a re done Eris. Lol my bad.

Droid x vs fascinate

I was offered a droid x as a trade for my fascinate. I was wondering the pros and cons of switching to this over my fascinate.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Major con, locked bootloader, major pro, froyo. And gingerbread just around he corner, i had a fascinate since launch day, and i finally gave up on that POS
EDIT:IT ACTUALLY A GREAT PHONE, the problem is verizon and samsung didnt name it droid so they dont give a ****

Poor support is what has me thinking about changing.

Coincidence, I just came from a Fascinate. Too soon to tell which one is better, I'll let you know pretty soon.
Also, if you're thinking about flashing a custom rom, I would stay with the Fascinate. I feel that they have better development and more support for their ROMs.
Stay away from the Droid x. You cannot flash anything important due to the locked bootloader

where are you finding this fascinate stuff I can't really find to much for it on the dedicated fascinate sections. The droid x has a long list of rom developers and themes for days. the locked bootloader really sucks but by looking at the phone and all the themes out I doubt anyone who isn't in the know would know its not fully unlocked.
I hadn't been in the fascinate forums for a bit but it does look like they have quite a few things happening. Time to root wifes fascinate.
i just rooted my buddies facinate....it seemed there were many more options for it.
i dont know why; but id rather have my x....i like it a lot. i know thats no awnser.
the only awnser i can give is that the facinate seemed to have a lot more options to play with as far as customizing.
with the x you pretty much have fission, apex, liberty....the 342 leak.

Atrix vs Bootloader issue ...

My iPhone 3GS is dead, time for an upgrade, wanted to jump in the Android world, I found the spec of the Atrix really interesting but the Bootloader issues is really turning me off ... There is usually so much cool stuff out with new ROMS ... I also tend to stay has far has I can from Carrier's crap, so with that bootloader restriction it's pretty a dead project ATM ... I was wondering if we can hope anything in a short time frame (+- 6 months) ?
Thanks
I'm getting an Atrix soon and as excited as I am, I'd probably recommend getting a Nexus S or an HTC phone. You'll get the flagship Android experience with the Nexus S (or 4G if you can wait) or the HTC Sense experience which is what I originally thought Android was all about. With HTC phones though, if you want you can go with an ASOP ROM and go completely stock, or use the HTC Sense framework which really kicks the user experience up.
I'm a bit of a spec junkie but I surprisingly loved the Sense experience my HTC Desire Z provided me with. I previously owned a Sony Xperia X10 which disgusted me and really made my initial Android experience pretty sour.. missed out on Flash, missed out on updates, missed out on a ton of things and had lots of bugs. Stock Android or something HTC would probably be the way to go with the Atrix's bootloader uncertainty.
The devs on these boards are nothing short of amazing, but Motorola's really got this clamped down. I think being an Android virgin you could easily enjoy the Atrix, but stock Android and Sense are really awesome and I think everyone should experience it at least once.
I got an eLocity A7, I loved the snap of Tegra2 and Atrix specs looked really nice. I've been in the Windows Mobile 6 scene and always hated the junk carriers installed on cell phone. I always enjoyed Sense or Stock (6.5 at the time ...).
I'll stay away from Atrix until I see ROM devs ... the Desire HD seemed really nice but I'm also temped by the iPhone 4gs or 5 with the HTC Flyer combo =)
Thx for the input !

You can do just as much much with the atrix as you could with a jailbroken iphone. Coming from an iphone myself the bootloader is not a big deal. Everyone is jealous of my phone including all my iphone and evo friends. Opening up the bootloader would be extra icing on the cake.

Which would argue not a whole lot, hence them not liking iOS and loving Android.
Yes, for the most part you have tons of customization, but without full access you're missing out on kernelsand tthe option ti have a different version of Android all together.

haha that's a great analogy.
I am interested in the Atrix as well, when it comes out. However, I would be interested in flashing a stock gingerbread. As far as I understood the discussion here, the bootloader is closed, which means, if I understand correctly, will avoid the installation of another rom, won't it?

Sgs2 or what?

I was just wondering what phone you guys are waiting for, I'm personally waiting for the sgs2, hopefully it comes out soon enough. Seems mostly everyone has gone to the g2x already.
if they did go for the g2x already i feel sorry for them in my opinion. ive seen the reviews and no way is it even close to sg2 not even close to htc sensation. im gonna get either one of those, preferable sg2!

Precisely.
The reason why a lot of people have gone towards the g2x is the big support from the Dev community. Unlocked bootloader + source has already been released.
Not to mention sg2 has no release date for the u.s, others couldn't wait.

These are reasons why people in this community would buy or take a long look at it, seems like a good phone and most reviews are quite good. Samsung and there slow updates, and lack of source make a tough phone for developers and now that HTC and Moto are locking their bootloaders, its gets harder to dev's to make the fun they make.

Hands Down SGS2, I love being able to tinker, but even if I cant I love samsung hardware. I gotta say for support though, LG or HTC
I never understood the craze over the g2. Is there something with current roms that you don't like?
Idk about craze over the G2, but it is a fantastic phone, especially for emulators in my opinion, but thats because you can get some nice clocks outta the CPU. I got one (well, not mine, I tinker with my friends) running @ 1.8ghz, and thats pretty sexy playing OOT on there perfectly (almost) In regards to roms, you mean for vibrant? I have no problem with anyones work =) just prefer my own I'm working on =P
I understand that the G2, and all second gen snapdragons for that matter, can clock high, but is there any application other than emulators that use that power. After all, developers have to take care of both the low and high end phones. Plus, you are killing the lifespan of the CPU and lowering your battery life.
The vibrant runs fine on 2.2.1 and is helped by Samsung's GPU acceleration implementation in both the launcher and browser. And once the i9000 gingerbread roms start rolling out, we can only expect greater speed and stability.
Mostly people suffer from nuevo-addiction and waiting is just too much. Also, alot of people who have phones I have noticed once the phone becomes bugfree with lots of support they bail for a new phone to conquer the new phone system.
I am waiting for the S2
if you've got the money why nit? if I'm a millionaire I would buy all the latest android phone.

Most likely a better processor (as long as we don't get the Tegra2 version)
SAMOLED plus
more RAM
G2X then SGS2!

I'm looking forward to the sensation. The galaxy s2 wont be significantly better in terms of hardware, and I've got a real bad taste in my mouth from the lack of support my vibrant has received from Samsung. Locked bootloader or not, the sensation is still a pretty good looking phone that I'm sure will perform well.
Worst case scenario, I buy the sensation, hate it and return within 14 days, wait for something else to be released. My vibrant and hd2 should keep me happy until I find something great.

To me the problem is buying a carrier altered edition of the phone. The international GS seems to get upgrades just fine. They don't have to wait on Samsung AND then the retarded carriers with all their alterations and other BS. That's what owning my Vibrant has taught me. 100% international & unlocked only from here on in. I'll be buying the International SGS2 as soon as I can, no US version for me ever again.
all i want is a new google nexus phone with a notification led duel cameras with flash and a duel core processor then ill be happy

Would you guys reccomend DX or DX2?

I`m going to be using the phone for a few months to see how the iPhone 5 pans out. I need to get rid of my ATT line, so please dont say wait for the SGS2 or Bionic.
I notice the X2 dev community is like none existant.
Pretty much should I get a DX offa ebay and keep my upgrade for the iPhone 5 OR should I get the Dx2 at contract price and flip it in the future and pay the diff for the iPhone?
I know most of you guys hate the iphone, but thats another convo.
I like that the DX2 is dual core, but idk I`m torn.
I would go with the reg x and save your upgrade for the iPhone 5 or whatever. The x has miui.us and CM7
Definitely go we the X. Development has really taken off lately with the release of 2nd-Init, also, in my opinion, support is great for the X.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
would you guys say devs arent messing with the DX2 cause of the bionic, or the locked bootloader? Like I said the dual core is very attractive, but yea
I'm not sure y devs aren't really working on it but I dont think it would be one of those 2 reasons
