Hello. First off let me say I have searched this forum for a thread relating to this issue and was unsuccessful so if by some means I overlooked it, I apologize for a replicate.
Anyway, I just purchased my KF yesterday and love it. However, I noticed today after turning it back on that my previous settings for email were no longer sticking. For example, I had set my email to fetch PUSH but it went back to manual. I don't know if this has something to do with the wifi or what but I'm curious so I can keep it from resetting.
*EDIT* For clarification the email account I am speaking of is my Gmail which is an IMAP server type.
Thanks for any help on this issue.
-- I plan on rooting the KF if it means I can keep my wifi from shutting down once the Fire goes into sleep.
** It seems to of been the already installed email app that was the issue. **

Nice. Well, I have no idea what is going on. I have set my email setting to PUSH and each and every time I turn off the device and then restart it, the settings go back to manual
And I even performed a factory reset. Thanks though for your reply. I hope I can get it taken care of soon. I hate nothing more than exchanges, esp. when the device itself now is top-notch...other than this email setting debacle.

Misread your post.
I have not set mine to "push."
I have 7 pop email accounts, so probably doesn't apply to your problem.
Yeah, I'm referring to my gmail (IMAP) account.
-- On a side note, however completely related to the subject, I notice my browser bookmarks don't stick either. I will delete many of the pre-loaded ones, put a few of my own, and after reboot, notice they are no longer there as well. Reverted back to all the old bookmarks (that I deleted) and none of mine.

No help here, either.
I am using Opera.
^^ no worries. Thanks for your replies anyway
Anyone else having this 'issue'?
I'm guessing you're talking about using the stock Kindle Fire email app connecting to your Gmail account?
My advice initially would be to sideload Google's apps on there and see if you have the same issues.
Failing that, I would probably do a factory reset, and start again. It shouldn't take you very long to set everything up again.
It's a weird one for sure, but then I never used the built in apps!
If you're only using gmail, I'd recommend just installing the gmail app, then using quick sync settings from the market to make it sync automatically, if that's what you want it to do.

Thanks to you both. You were both correct. It was something to do with the email client.already on this device. After using gmail app the settings stay in place perfectly after reboots. Thanks again I apprecaite your help.

For some reason my googlemail account has disappeared from my phone. I have a notification I have mail, and when I go into mail from the home screen tab the new mail is displayed, but when I press it nothing happens, it won't go to inbox.
If I go into mail via the start up menu my googlemail account isn't there. All I have listed is hotmail, and add new account. If I try to add my googlemail it won't allow me saying I have already set up an account with that name. Where's it gone and how do I get it back?
Ok, I've fixed it by restoring my phone. It would be nice to know what happened though???
Yes, this happens on occasions.
I think the way I fixed it last time was to go >menu>account settings> where you should see the "lost" gmail account. If you then select it and walk through the setup again for that account it sorts itself out.
I'm 90% confident this is how I fixed mine but it was a while back so memory is a bit dim.

Thanks. I went through the setup and that's when it told me I already had an account with that name and couldn't go any further.
I had a new problem this morning. I had all my email accounts there, but when I clicked on them nothing happened, ie I couldn't go to the inbox. A soft reset fixed it, but why am I getting so many glitches?

I am having the same sort of problem. My e-mail accounts have disappeared after a soft reset. This is the second time it has happened. Out of interest, what are you running on your device? I would like to see if there is a common theme beyond it being a problem with HTC's software.

Not a lot, a few registry tweaks, SPB BAckup, memmaid, resco registry editor, phm regedit.
I got my email settings borked a couple of times now, and I run a standard ROM with very little third party software, and certainly nothing tweaky or email related.
Not sure what triggers it, TBH.

These are precisely the same symptoms as my device is suffering. Hell, I could buy a Caithness paper weight for less money and it would do roughly the same job (possibly better).
My phone is also having the same symptoms - loosing email and network settings randomly. Any cause or solution as yet?
My phone loses it's email settings when I pull the battery. They are still there but the pop and smtp settings disappear so they won't work anymore. Also my router security code is gone too. If I reset with the red button there there is no problem.
I was having this problem maybe one a week but since i upgraded to one of the latest custom Roms it hasn't happened since... Must be because of the very latest version of Windows they are using, M$ must of sorted a bug or two..
Ok,
Just going to through this up in a thread of its own. If this info needs to be added to a newbie's thread fine, but I have not seen one.
This is a lesson learned with the Evo that as a NEW android user I was completely unaware of:
--You MUST have a GMail account. An old Google account will not work.
--You only get ONE CHANCE at entering the correct account for your phone set up.
It seems that while other android phones have tricks to work around changing accounts...the Evo does NOT. You must do the factory reset from...Menu > Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset.
YES you will lose all the screen customizations you made, all the emails you have set up, all the settings you wanted.
NO you do not lose data as all my test pictures are still there.
The GMail account must be set up BEFORE you try to add it to the phone. (This seems to be the gist of lots of stuff on internet and this is way I did it. Set it up through my old Google account before adding to the phone during the set up process.)
There you go. Very important and frustrating tip for those of us that are new to android and especially to the Evo.
....
are you sure?
you can't just got Accounts and Sync and change it there?
I can't imagine why not
You can't go to menu>settings>accounts and sync>google and remove your Google account?
if your rooted you can easily change google accounts
i found this goodie back in the hero days messing around with accounts.db
adb shell
sqlite3 /data/system/accounts.db "delete from accounts where type = 'com.google';"

No, you cannot just go Accounts and Sync...tried it. When you go into the google account you have a button below that says...'Remove Account'. When you try you get two pop-ups. First says you will lose account information. Second says you must do the factory reset.
So...anyone else want to call me a troll before they actually TRY what they are suggesting? 'Cause I tried three different approaches I found when searching. None worked.

Or maybe I just don't know any better, I don't have this problem with my phone, I've accidentally entered my Google account incorrectly and I always just re-entered it and it worked just fine.

Then you aren't being entirely clear on what your point is. I have no idea what you are talking about given that I know for a fact that:
A> I am usually drunk when I try roms, which usually require a full wipe and account info on 1st boot...which I usually screw up.
and most importantly,
B> That the day I got my phone I forgot my password for a good 5 minutes at radio shack and tried wrong passwords repeatedly until I got it right.
Not to mention
C> I have changed gmail accounts multiple times, even in those brief hours while I was still 100% stock.
...and I have no idea what a "google account" is otherwise. It very may well be 'a thing', but I have no idea what it is.
If I managed to evade your point, please--for the sake of the forum and your own well being--articulate it a little better.

Your Google account is basically your Gmail account. All though I do believe it is a seperat account. It also allows you to link youtube, latitude and a few other Google tools or services.
Hmmm, Home screen, menu, settings, applications, gmail and or market, then clear data, and or clear cache ... worked for me... then I had to re-enter my password and user name, ill be damned if i didn't screw it up. Not even drunk, course i didn't forget it for 10 minutes, just about 30 seconds.

That's what I assumed, but, you never know. Google is a little to smart to go for anything less than a unified ID. Having a handful of disparate and overlapping accounts (and their associated 'sign up process') seems like an annoying waste of time, storage and bandwidth.
Btw, I'm not trying to be a ****. If you are in fact having these issues it may be an isolated incident.
I had the same issue as the original poster. I believe what is being said is that the "google" account you enter the very first time, is the one used for your identity on the phone, and to change it requires a factory reset on the Evo.
Personally I have 3 google accounts, one is gmail and the other two are google apps. All of my contacts are under a google apps account.
Well, turns out, if you enter your gmail account not knowing the difference when you originally setup the phone, it stays stuck in there and won't let you change it without doing a full factory reset. I realized I needed to use my google apps account instead and had to factory reset to change it.
This is of course before I attempted any rooting fun, I had just came from WinMo on a Touch Diamond previously and hadn't read up on how any of that worked at the time.
Hope this helps clarify things.
Can't you just go to setup and redo your setup??

Well, condiering I've had my gmail account for over 3 years and used it to set my evo up with, it's not new - it was 3 years ago but it sure wasn't new when I got my evo. Therefore, an old gmail/google account works just fine.
And, I just added me other gmail account without any problems. Gave me the options to sync mail, contacts, ect., too.
I think were missing your point here...or something.

I know what you mean, in a way. I guess it just depends on the person and the what your needs are. iGoogle for instance, you can set up your own home page, you can add all kinds of different widgets like latitude, translate, local search, wiki, tv guide. You can be updated when concerts and such are appear in your town. I love latitude, I just link it to my phone, if anyone ever stole my phone I could just go to my google page on my pc and id automatically know the location and I'm pretty sure theres a free service for this same thing that adds the ability to send messages, not texts, to the phone and wipe it if you want. Pretty dang useful if you ask me. I love it, I just open mozilla and everything is there, mail, rss feeds and news, weather everything

I have an N7 3g. I'm using MoDaCa's JR-4. Outgoing emails continually get stuck in the outbox and don't go out. I think it has something to do with N7. I have never had this problem with other android cell phones, PC, etc.
Is there a solution?
Thanks
I have had this problems on phones before, but not yet on the N7 *knocks on wood.
First I would check your sync settings to make sure all is appropriate.
The way I was able to remedy the situation was to either uninstall gmail, and reinstall, or just uninstall the latest update. I haven't had that fail me yet. You could also try clearing data, cache, and force stop the app from settings first.
(may require reboot after)
Good luck!
i had this issue in Gmail today on the N7 running a CM 10.1 nightly. i used to see this a lot as well on Gingerbread, and uninstalling the app/clearing data in the app does work but makes you lose the draft you had written(which sucks if it was a long one!). i used to solve it by clicking reply and creating a dummy message in the same thread, saving that message as a draft, then going into my drafts folder and the message that got stuck would have an option to send... or something like that, and that worked. however, i couldn't seem to get it to work today, on Gmail 4.1.2 fortunately my stuck message today was small, so i just cleared data in the app and rewrote it, and it did send then.
You could also just highlight the whole draft and copy, then paste when done. It should be copied to your clip board and not the gmail app. I suppose it is always safer to save it somewhere before deleting, though I would think if you were going to do that, you would want to save the copy in a different app like ever note.

I'll try that here on Jelly Bean next time, but that actually wasn't possible before. When the message got stuck sending, it was in a limbo state where the text of the message wasn't accessible to be copied! I definitely tried that because i lost some pretty long drafts!

I have rolled back gmail to the earlier version several times but it keeps updating behind my back and emails become stuck in the outbox again. Also, although I'm currently using JR-4, I have CM-10, PA, and stock rooted ROMS nandroided. I could restore any of them and test, but I'm pretty certain it's ubiquitous. It's either the gmail app or android 4.21.
Also, I have a Galaxy Note 2. 2 versions of gmail are installed: 1.0 and 4.21, and emails don't get stuck. N7 only has has 4.21 installed. Why doesn't N7 also have 1.0 installed?
Also, I just cleared cache and data and the email is resynching. I'm certain that the problem will return. I love the N7, but this is really annoying.

Is there a particular version of Gmail that works better? If so, have you gone into your market settings and disabled automatic updating? I've been running the 4.1.2 version for a long time now, and it never updates to 4.2. I also disabled update notifications so it doesn't bug me at all.
But yeah, it's an annoying issue. Sometimes i turn to K9 Mail, as it works great for Gmail accounts. Plus i love the dark theme option. In the end i like the way native Gmail synchs tho.

Thanks for your help. How can I downgrade from 4.2.1 to 4.1.2? I think that will work until Google addresses this issue. The Disable link inside "App Info" used to show this downgrade capability. However, that text was probably there when I was using a different Rom. I have MoDaCa JR-4 running now and I think I want to keep it.
I think if you flashed a ROM that came with 4.2, you won't have the option to uninstall updates. In any case, i posted 4.1.2 in the 3rd to last post in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2005006. You can just uninstall 4.2 and install 4.1.2 if you wish. Bad news 4.1.2 emails are now stuck in outbox.
This happens because Google wants to take over your e-mail service; in other words you must be using your Android or smartphone's e-mail app instead of Google's GMAIL App. There are two fixes to this problem, first is to download Goggle's GMAIL App and use that for email communication; and second is to ask google to allow 'less secure' apps i.e. non-google to access your e-mails (i know!) Here are the steps for the second option:
Allowing less secure apps to access your account
Google may block sign-in attempts from some apps or devices that do not use modern security standards. Since these apps and devices are easier to break into, blocking them helps keep your account safe.
Some examples of apps that do not support the latest security standards include:
The Mail app on your iPhone or iPad with iOS 6 or below
The Mail app on your Windows phone preceding the 8.1 release
Some Desktop mail clients like Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird
Change account access for less secure apps
To help keep Google Apps users' accounts secure, we may block less secure apps from accessing Google Apps accounts. As a Google Apps user, you will see a "Password incorrect" error when trying to sign in. If this is the case, you have two options:
Option 1: Upgrade to a more secure app that uses the most up to date security measures. All Google products, like Gmail, use the latest security measures.
Option 2: Change your settings to allow less secure apps to access your account. We don't recommend this option because it might make it easier for someone to break into your account. If you want to allow access anyway, follow these steps:
Go to the "Less secure apps" section in My Account.
Next to "Access for less secure apps," select Turn on. (Note to Google Apps users: This setting is hidden if your administrator has locked less secure app account access.)
If you still can't sign in to your account, the "password incorrect" error might be caused by a different reason.
Hi all,
Apologies if this is the wrong place to post this but u couldn't find a relevant forum... On my 6p my Gmail all is not pushing email notifications through to me live a they come. I am having to open the app up and then pull down to refresh the app and then they will all appear.
If I leave it long enough eventually they will all come through. For example the other day I left it too see what would happen on a weekend day and at around 4pm my email went from nothing to flooded with emails going back as far as 5am.
If I use inbox it works fine but I prefer the Gmail app. I have even gone to the lengths of factory resetting my phone to see if that helps but it didn't.
Does any one know a fix for this please? Thanks in advance for any help.
yea it's a known issue. Google says they are working on it..

For info, this seems to plague other devices running marshmallow. Same thing with my Xt1092.

Try going to "App Notifications" and select "Priority"
For me, it needed to be whitelisted in the battery optimization menu. It seems like doze or app standby is killing the app.

It's funny, I can't seem to get mine to update the main account on the phone but every other account on the app sends push notifications. My work and school emails actually notify me of emails but my Gmail account just wont work...
I been noticing the same thing on my 6p looks like once you open Gmail it starts pushing after that.

Tried that and no change. The only push notifications are if I sign out and then sign in to another phone!
My Gmail (v6.01....) was working perfect until I updated to the lastest build (MHC19I), then Gmail stopped pushing notifications. I read on the google forums in the link posted above that reverting back to Gmail version 5.7... would fix this problem and it did. So, I turned off auto-updates for Gmail and will remain on version 5.7 until Google fixes this issue.
Has anyone else been having any issues with this? I seem to only be able to get new mail when I manually check the app.
I've tried:
making sure sync is enabled
clearing gmail app cache
clearing google app cache
turning off power saving mode
deleting/adding my gmail account
uninstalling/updating the app
I put my old phone on the same wifi network as my new S8 and the old phone gets the push notifications. This makes me feel like it's not an issue with the google account, but rather some setting on the phone.
I'm in the same boat here and I have no idea what to do and I need them push notifications. If some one comes up with a solution about please I've done everything what the main posts says also
Not sure if you only have the issue on wifi, but roaming is turned off by default which might explain the behaviour on 4g. Gmail itself works fine for me. Did you enable the notifications in the phone settings?

Use Inbox by Gmail. It will solve your issue.

I'm having this issue as well does anyone know a fix?
I have emails that are hours late that don't even notify me unless I manually refresh
I removed my 3 gmail accounts
Then added them back
I am now receiving push mail from 2 email accounts
The third one, I haven't receive emails yet today, so cannot say if push is working or not.
i done everything now, i reset my network settings even, it worked for about a day after that, and now it does not work again, any ideas guys i am missing lots of emails. Have 2 s8's in the family both have the same problem (EU variant here)
When you get new phone it's better to fresh install apps rather than transfer over. Reduces issues I've found in past.

Try putting gmail in Not optimized Apps (menu in battery usage)
I was having this issue myself and then i discovered that the Notification for Gmail had been turned off. Might not help every one but to check it
LONG PRESS GMAIL>APP INFO>Scroll down to App Settings
It kept turning back off so I had to turn it on and then back all the way to home and reboot for it to stick. Hope this helps!

no i done that, i done it i think it the very begging it was like my first idea or so, but the idea the person posted before you might actually do the trick
This is not new issue. I've had the same on SGS7e and didn't find a solution. This is why I've moved to "Inbox by Gmail", successor of "Gmail".
It's almost the same, even better than Gmail. Let it try guys, you won't be disappointed.
Issue here also... Anyone tried turning off battery optimization for the app?
I resolved this by removing the accounts, then adding them back.
had the same problem for the past 2 or 3 days. it originally was working fine. I checked every setting known to man, and it magically started working again.
I was originally not getting any push notifications but also realized that it was showing "queuing" everytime i sent an email so there was definitely an issue with it pushing things out too
