Battery problem - G2 and Desire Z General

Hey all. I have an extra battery that I keep charged and use when I know i'm gonna have a long day. Recently, whenever I switch to the extra battery, my phone goes into a boot loop. When I switch back to my original battery, the phone works fine. Both batteries are official HTC G2 batteries.
Anyone know what might be causing this and how I can fix it?
Thx as always.

Sounds like your spare battery has a voltage problem, that is about the only way a battery can cause a phone to bootloop

Charging new battery with NAND

Hello guys,
I'm buying a new standard battery because my current one is going bad. Meanwhile, MAGLDR is known of not charging battery correctly while the phone is off. What should I do know since I heard that new battery must be charged first while the phone is off. Thanks.
The new battery will come with some charge in it. It will not be empty. Lithium batteries do not have 'memories', you do not need to give it a full charge to get the best performance out of it as you used to have to do in the old days. Google for Lithium battery information if you are unsure.
Don't worry about it
Insert the battery, boot into Android and charge it.
Afterthought...
If you are worried however. Just backup your build, flash Windows Mobile back on to the phone. Turn the phone off and charge it with the phone off. Then flash MAGLDR again and recover your backup build.
thanks man, I heard about that too but what makes me doubtful is if that's correct then why almost all phone manuals instruct us to charge the battery until full before turning phone on for the first time.

From personal experience I can say it's pointless to charge full while the phone is off.
All i do everytime is use the charge the battery came with untill the phone turns off by itself, then turn on and plug the charger for 16 hours.
If you do this - full cicle - several times in the begining, the battery is working perfectly.
This way the cells are loaded to the maximum in the begining and the battery is "conditioned"
the use of HD2 with Android is quite a different issue...
Dont know bout all builds(I have nexusHD2 1.9a) but I charged my battery after my phone went comatose-just connect the phone to power with battery and -then- turn it on.If that doesnt work you can always buy el cheapo charger from Ebay.
I bought new battery from ebay,which works great.10$(M | less)for battery+charger.
Cheers
damn, so many different thoughts about li-ion battery i don't know which is the best one.
anyone else? before i receive my new battery tomorrow

Well make sure the replacement battery has full charge....and retry ...also insert your battery into another phone and check if its chaging....because usually the phone starts up unless the battery has gone bad....if the phone doesn't switch on...I guess its a hardware issue...which I highly doubt....make sure the wall socket is functional as well....these are little things that could be triggering this...so check everything. ..good luck

[SOLVED] Nexus 4 dying at around 30% battery

Hey guys,
I noticed this yesterday my Nexus 4 (running PA 3.6, franco milestone 1) shut down at 30% charge. I went home and charged it (it showed 0 when I started charging it) to 100% continuously.
Today too the phone shut down when it was around 32-31% and now charging has again started from 0%.
What could be the issue?
I have tried the battery calibration app even though I know it does nothing.
Any ideas?

I have been flashing nightlies merrily on the Nexus4, never had to recalibrate the battery, though it sounds like your does need that. (I had a Desire HD before this, and it was very sensitive to errors in battery calibration)
How about if you charge the phone fully then either reflash the ROM or flash a nandroid backup you've made? Either of those options will overwrite the battery stats file - if that's the problem.
It could be that the chip in the battery is malfunctioning, ie a new battery could be needed, but that sounds much less likely

Okay I'll try reflashing the ROM when I'm at a 100%, I know deleting the batterystats.bin file doesn't do anything but I did that anyways yesterday, but it seems it didn't fix the calibration issue.
Any other ideas I could try while I charge my phone to a 100%?

Hi, @paul c, I would like to inform you that my phone's discharging just fine (charged it to a 100% last night and it's currently at 48%, I didn't reflash my ROM but I did reboot it once. I also haven't charged it since then)
Could you tell me what's the minimum and maximum battery voltage? I am guessing that the max voltage is around 4200mV but what's the minimum? Also, can we calculate the REAL battery %age from the voltage that is displayed by apps like DashClock? If we can do that could you tell me how/what formula we use to do that?
I know I'm asking a lot of questions and I would really appreciate any help here !
Thanks!

Worth a try - charge the device to 100%, turn it off, open the back case, disconnect the battery flex cable, reconnect it ... try now.

Hi,
I was inspecting the battery's voltage/charge the entire day today and I realized that at around 36% the voltage went around 3000mV (3100mV, Nexus 4's battery is rated at 3800mV and it maxes at around 4200mV). After that when I plugged it back in and turned it on it started charging from 0%.
I think the battery is at fault.
Is there any fix for this which does not involve replacing the battery?
Thanks!

Unfortunately this didn't work for me. I tried charging through the night and then discharging it completely and charging it completely again. I also tried deleting the batterystats file (even though I know it doesn't do anything)
So what do you suggest I should do? Get the phone replaced or get the battery changed?
I live in India and the phone is from Canada, so replacing the phone will take some time but I can get the battery replaced for around $20
Also my nexus is also showing +ve mA values while it's not charging, and the values are absolutely crazy, +268, +168, +1171 (in batter monitor widget)
Please tell me what I should do.

So you tried to disconnect the battery cable and reconnect it?
When you open the back case did you notice if the battery looks bigger/inflated? Maybe you should replace the battery.

Okay, I got my battery replaced, drained it to 0% (after a full charge) and going to charge it completely by the travel adapter that I purchased from the service center.
Attached are the pics of my old battery, I don't know if you can see it but it's swollen. If I recall I used a nexus s' charging cable to charge the phone from a computer and it was charging like AC (my kernel usb fast charge was OFF) and it also never detected my phone in the explorer (Windows)
My problem's solved now, it was a battery issue for me. I upgraded to PA 4.3 in the process by the way
So I guess I'll stick to my regular micro USB cable and charge via the travel adapter whenever possible, thank you everyone for your inputs!

G2 will not take a charge

Hey guys, I work at a major cellular carrier, and had a customer that brought in a g2 that wasn't charging for her. We upgraded her to a g3, and she let me keep the g2, but I'm perplexed as to what the issue is. When she brought it in, the device would show charging when plugged in, it was properly recognized by our computers and we were able to remove her files from the device, but even when left on the charger, it would never move from 2% battery. I assumed the battery was at fault, as there was no indication that the port was messed up at all. I ordered a battery, installed it and now the phone was stuck at 67% battery, and would not budge. The phone would show charging when both on and off, but the percentage would not change from 67%. So, I bought and replaced the charging ribbon, and now not only will it not show charging, but the battery % is going down as I charge it. I've ruled out software by doing a factory reset on the device, and by trying to charge it from off to no avail, and there is no water damage or any physical damage to speak of, so I have no idea what it could possibly be. Any ideas?
tldr; phone won't charge, why?
The battery contacts within the phone try scratching the gold a bit might be oxidized?

You got any fix \ idea for what causing this issue?
i'm experiencing the same thing almost.
Done factory reset, tried different cables\chargers (im using the g2 original ).
the battery loads when the device is powered off, but sometimes when it's on it doesn't charge at all...

It is probably a battery controller/main flex cable issue. The only way to fix this, is to replace it.

Nexus 4 won’t boot up/work without charger plugged in

My phone is shutting down automatically after showing “google” logo. I went back to stock lollipop 5.0.1 but the problem still persist. It’s working fine with the charger plugged in. If I remove the charger after switching on, if I kept it idle, it will stay on till the battery is empty. But if I try to do something it will shutdown. In recovery mode it works well without the charger.
Please help me is anyone facing the same issue.
may be you should try flashing a new kernel
i tried stock Google images still no use.
Is there any noticeable bulge to the battery? It might be a battery issue.

I don't think its a battery issue, because if i keep my device idle it'll last 1 day.
It only crashes if i use the phone, even swiping home screens crashes the phone.
Well, you've already gone back to pure stock which rules out a software issue, and so the next thing I thought would be a battery issue. I have read here about defective batteries causing all sorts of problems like losing signal, non responsive touchscreens and bootloops, and so it's a possibility that this is a battery problem.
I got strange problem with my n4..
Battery % randomly change and shut down, unsensible touchscreen, battery icon disappear from menu..
Maybe this hw problem could touch the SW part
that's how my problem started

My nexus 4 cant't turn on without charger plugged in. But when I go to Recovery, it work fine. A few days ago, it's sometime shutdown suddently when I was playing game. Then it worked fine after I plugged charger in and turn it on. Is this battery issue?
