Hi guys I was about to buy galaxy tab 10.1 and came across that many users have this oil mark ... what would you guys suggest me to do ? should I go ahead and buy it ? does this oil mark do some harm to tablet ?
Please any thoughts and advice. I am stuck now and have no idea
had my gt10 for about 2 months, got the rings about a month ago. For me, what matters is not aesthetics but actual use, and when it's turned on you can't see the rings. So I really don't care about them. But, yeah, many people get them and some are bothered by them (to the point of sending it in for repair multiple times). My only real concern with them is the resale value of the tablet, but I'll worry about that later.
raufhon, check your PMs. I sent you one.
so what should I do ? I was thinking to buy galaxy tab 10.1 on ebay. But how can I know if it is not one that was repaired or it wont have those oil spots ?
Damn I am stuck

I bought the I-Mate JAM for my wife a few months ago thinking I could teach her all the cool things it can do like my PDA2K but she still doesn't like it. I was thinking about posting it on ebay, but wanted to give everyone here a chance to make me an offer before I posted it. Is anyone willing to make a reasonable trade or offer for it? She really likes the new RAZR's so I am open for a few days then its off to ebay for it.
post an offer here or email me [email protected].
I will post pics later today as it does have one or two scratches.
Here is a pic
A scratch on the display is a no-go for me. If she doesnt even want it, why couldn't she use a screen protector the time being? I have one on it and are using it.
I sent it to here while I was away and she didn't know how to put it on. The scratch isn't that big either, the flash on the camera kind of makes it look alot bigger.
$200
I'd be interested to know what you get on ebay for it.
I'll be putting mine on there at some point soon With a 1gb SD card, Spectec WiFi card and DeskDock. Not sure how much to expect though. :S
My wife has a RAZR and aside from being thin an light she is quite disappointed with it. As always no other phone can beat the user-friendlyness and features of a Nokia.
I am sure my wife will be disappointed with it also. No offense to women, but with cell phones its always what's new and small.
The cons are as follows:
- wake up alarm wont work if the phone is off.
- fonts are too small (for bad eyes).
- though one could input various numbers for one contact, when viewing, it displays each number as one individual entry.
- the phone's battery can only be charged via the supplied adapter and/or the usb cable (but only when connected to a PC). it does not work with my universal usb charger which i use for my s100 and bt800.
- assigned sms tone does not work if an international sms is received.
i wonder how the motoQ will be like in practice.
How do you manage to scratch the screen like that?! I had my phone for 4 months before my screen protectors finally came in the mail (expansys.com.au being slow, long story). I used the phone all day every day, let my girlfriend at the time use it and my dad and it doesn't have a mark on the screen!
Did she accidentally use a pen instead of stylus or something?
As I said before its not as big as it looks, the flash made it look bigger. But the scratch was from her nail when she was getting them done and tried to click on something.
Fair enough. I could imagine if you're looking straight down at it you'd barely notice. Still, unlucky!
My guess at a value would be slightly over half the standard retail price. I reckon I'd pay that. In Australia Jams sell for AU$900 roughly, I'd give you $500 but I have no money!
Ebay Australia has some in "as new" condition going for AU$600.
Hi , I will buy it for 200 USD. Agreed ?
rexxxx,
Common man Jimmy-Bish just offered me 377.191......
I was really hoping to get a trade w/some $$ becuase I will have to replace the phone as soon as I sell/trade this one.
Alfred, what's my new price (AU$900) compared to the US price? I put in that theoretical offer based on the Australian market at the moment.
(Oh, and it wasn't a rock solid offer. like I said, I have no money... sorry!).
Jimmy-Bish I was comparing it to the 500 you said, I know your not interested but that is a more reasonable offer.
ILL TAKE IT????
IF you'd sell it for AUD$400 including post ill take it it dose come with all chargers and stylus and box and wat-not dosent it?

are you still interested? sorry i haven't checked this post in a while and i never posted the jam on ebay either. i got caught up in the BlueAngel release of WM5.0 I personally have the PDA2K.
Hi, I am going to be traveling to one of the not developed countries to work so I was going to buy galaxy tab 10.1 to use it there. There is no way to return or exchange there so now I got issue.
I was going to get one off ebay or amazon. But I heard about oil slick stuff. That every second pad gets this. So what should I do ? I mean i buy from ebay/amazon and then I get oil slick and my pad worth of 400 or more is useless ?
Please guys, I need to buy this or Ipad 2 in a few days. I would appreciate any help or advice from this community from you all.
Buy it at a local retailer.

BTW, no oil slick on my UK WiFi Tab.
I've never had an oil slick issue. Always, always buy from a retailer.. I've had three and no issues. Get the tab, you won't regret it. I have it and the ipad and the iPad just went up on ebay today.. had enough of it.
but even the people who bought the new ones , are complaining plus at store it is 499$ thats way too much to take a risk... cuz Im gonna go abroad as I said
I have the rings (oil slick). You can't see it when the tab is on, so it's just a matter of whether it bothers you or not. I I personally don't care about mine.

We can provide advice but ultimately it is up to you. I've had mine since it came out (gift from the wife) and haven't had a problem with it, my friend recently purchased a BMW had engine issues on the 3rd week, point being that quality issues can arrive to any product at any time. If your that concerned wait until you return back to your homeland and then make the purchase.

the thing is I am gonna be gone for a year or so
damn I am really confused now. I am obsessed about this tab and now this comes up
I've never had newton ring issues with my Tab. I use it constantly and it travels a lot. I would highly recommend purchasing the Tab and taking it abroad.
what bout suggestion? I was thinking to save up and buy from ebay or amazon... or should I buy at the retailer for this crazy price 499 bucks (WOW crazy)
Buying at retailers doesn't ensure quality. Even some bestbuy stores resell returned items, so go for cheap price.
As for newton rings, even when abroad, if they appear, still the refridge solution should fix the problem.
But really, the choice between an ipad2 and sgt10.1 should be based on your usage needs and OS preferences.
my 2 cents
I suggested buying locally so he can check for newton rings before going abroad. I took my sgt 10.1 to europe a couple weeks ago and got newton rings while I was there. The sgt was in my girlfriends bag and i dont know if something was putting pressure on the screen, but it was there when I took it out. I read on here that blowing in the charge port will get rid of the rings, and it did. I have not seen them since. My case of newton rings was very minor though. It was the size of a nickel.

I'm not sure what you mean. Too big? Too big for what? Regardless of how big they are, you can't see them when the screen is turned on, so the size of the rings doesn't make any difference. Mine are about 5" x 2" and I really don't care about them since they don't affect usability.
It feels like you just want to hear someone to tell you to buy the ipad.... take a gamble or by the sure bet and be mildly disappointed by the limited ios.
Got mine from the source here in Canada about when it was first available.
No rings, I have the standard samsung case.
Durability.......excellent, as a Pilot it gets clunked around in the flight bag lots, I use the S**** out of it, in fact it has greatly extended the battery life of my desire (which spends waaaaay more time in my pocket now!!!).
I personally love it, I see lots of ipads arounf airport terminals with people playing games on them, me I use my tab for email, word, excel, powerpoint, media (watching movies etc), reading rss feeds (greader), an ebook, internet, everything.
As for the price, it's cheaper than an Ipad, thin, portable, what more could you ask for?
Buy it locally, test it the same day and you won't look back.
tab 10.1 vs ipad
have always been an android guy but the service i am getting from samsung sucks
they have refused to fix the newton rings problem ( although it is a manufacturing defect ) blaming it on the fact that i bought my tablet overseas , i went and bought an ipad and never looked back , my samsung tablet has never been used and i am trying to sell it now as i have had enough of samsung service , complained and wrote to all the magazines , to no avail
be careful with this samsung will NOT service yr tablet in the uk if you have bought it overseas
samsung galaxy tab 10.1
there is an inherent manufacturing defect in the screen of the Samsung galaxy tab 10.1, in that it develops an oily slick / newton rings( just google newton rings oil slick galaxy tabs and you will see the extent of the defect ) ,when the tablet has been used for approximately a week , this does not affect all the tablets but around 45-60 pct. are affected , I have written to Samsung uk asking for a change under warranty , they have refused saying that because I bought the tablet overseas they cannot repair it .
I may understand some of that , if it was a warranty claim , however as a manufacturing defect this becomes too much ! , I am NOW trying to assemble as many people as possible to mount a legal case against Samsung uk , as they are refusing to repair any tablet that was bought outside their territory and they have known about that defect for a while now
if anyone is interested please let me know and I will send you my pm
Thks

Hello everyone.
A few weeks ago I bought a refurbished Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wifi only.
Perfect working tool for university for only £280 (440$). A few days ago, the tab fell on the floor and the screen broke. The tab is still working, I can turn it on and off, the screen rotates but the touchscreen doesn't work.
As I mentioned I am a student and money is an issue for me that's why I chose a refurbished tab and not a laptop.
I sent a desperate email to the company I bought the tab from but, even if I really hope, I'm not expecting them to change the screen for free.
My question is, how could I fix my tab (which I really need) ? And how much would it cost ?
Thank you very much
Batist, LONDON
I found a screen on internet. Take a look at the picture.
Would you try to change it yourself if you were me ??
Please help.
Thanks
Using this...
I cant really tell, it does look like you might end up having to use a heat gun or something crazy. It would come down to how expensive that screen is I guess.
Good luck!
unless you're very good in disassembly and a little bit of board repair, its best that samsung service center do the task. if cost is prohibitive then wait for donor tabs.
I didn't see this thread anywhere, and I am new here, so please don't kill me if it is in fact somewhere...
I dropped my Nexus 10 last weekend and can't seem to find anywhere that can fix it or carries the screen/digitizer. Samsung wants $260 to repair which is absolutely absurd.
I sent to a place to get fixed but they just informed me that they can't get the part and it's backordered everywhere. I'm leaving for two weeks overseas and am about to make an impulse buy and go back to an iPad if I can't get this fixed anywhere...
Thanks in advance
I may be a bit late with this, but have you considered replacing the screen on your own?
Depending on what's broken (the screen, digitizer, or both), find and buy that and fix it.
Now seeing that a Nexus 4 screen+digitizer+front plate combo (directly from LG) costs ~80$, it seems 260$ is about the right price for the Nexus 10...

Tablets and smartphones are the only devices that I can say purchasing Square Trade or other accidental damage warranty might be a wise decision.
The display is the single most expensive part of the tablet, so expect it to be costly even if you do perform it yourself.
If you can't get it repaired and do get an iPad, remember they break as well. So a purchased warranty for that tab might also be a good idea.
So I have had this tablet since June. I have enjoyed using apart from a touch screen issue I had since day 1; sometimes when clicking something the screen goes haywire and flickers with the notification bar pulled down and random inputs registered. A simple sleep/wale fixed it. I've disabled prism, factory deserted etc but the problem still exists and has got worse a few days ago.
Since the retailer I bought it from can't offer me a exchange they have offered me a full refund. Should I go ahead?
I can get £100 back when right now this tablet is probably worth a lot less on eBay.
I really like this tablet wish I could have am exchange. So what other 7" tablet can I get with the money?
I'm willing to add up to an extra £80.
I don't see the point in getting an nexus 7?
I was going to suggest you to try some of the chinese tablets, but then I saw in the signature that you own a "Ployer Momo20" tab. I had "CUBE U9GT4" and I enjoyed that tab for almost 1.5 years, that tab was slimmer tan tegra note and had an aluminium body. You can try some Retina resolution 10 inch tab from "PiPO", or visit arctablet.com( admin is very helpful person ) .

I'm guessing the tablet that you have may have some hardware issues. since the seller offers full refund and the tablet is worth much lesser on eBay than what you paid for, why don't you get a full refund and use the money to buy the same tablet off eBay? I can't say for sure that the next tablet will have absolutely no problem, but I guess it's worth a shot since you like the tablet.
Personally I like my hp slate 7 extreme (tegra note variant) a lot since it allows me to get a tablet from a mainstream manufacturer at a low cost. This is important to me because it ensures that the tablet will receive future updates. Even if it doesn't, the developers are here to support us with new roms and stuff. Thanks developers!
I'm always up for trying new gadgets and won't rule out the possibility that there can be better alternatives from Chinese manufacturers, but if few people are using them, it will mean that the information you can find out of the internet is very limited if you encounter any issue with them. Who knows, maybe there is a tablet out there that has the best of both worlds. If you do find it please let us know. Share the love
