Help needed. Broken screen on Tab 10.1 - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Hello everyone.
A few weeks ago I bought a refurbished Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wifi only.
Perfect working tool for university for only £280 (440$). A few days ago, the tab fell on the floor and the screen broke. The tab is still working, I can turn it on and off, the screen rotates but the touchscreen doesn't work.
As I mentioned I am a student and money is an issue for me that's why I chose a refurbished tab and not a laptop.
I sent a desperate email to the company I bought the tab from but, even if I really hope, I'm not expecting them to change the screen for free.
My question is, how could I fix my tab (which I really need) ? And how much would it cost ?
Thank you very much
Batist, LONDON

I found a screen on internet. Take a look at the picture.
Would you try to change it yourself if you were me ??
Please help.
Thanks

Using this...
I cant really tell, it does look like you might end up having to use a heat gun or something crazy. It would come down to how expensive that screen is I guess.
Good luck!

unless you're very good in disassembly and a little bit of board repair, its best that samsung service center do the task. if cost is prohibitive then wait for donor tabs.

I cracked my screen!! :-((

HELP!!!!!
Yesterday I was foolishly playing around with my MDA Vario and it fell from my hands...onto the hard floor. Now the display is cracked (mind you, NOT the LCD!!!!!Just the glasstop, digitizer, lense or whatever you call it). It still works perfectly but when I press with the stylus over the crack it just freaks out. End of the day: I can use it but I can't play with it. I spent AGES googling for a solution but apparently all I can find is LCD replacements (which actually DO include the screen...but cost 3 times asmuch). Anybody can help? please.........I'm desperate!

What a bummer!
HTC europe and usa are selling parts give them a call and see if any joy
see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=49361
and here http://www.htceurope.com/uk/
Ouch! I'd be kicking myself if that happened to me!
Hope it won't cost too much get it repaired
PS. Doesn't your Olympus C150/D390 have an upclose (or "Flower") mode? You'll be able to get clearer shots if you select it.
Got it repaired!!!!!!!For "only" 70 pounds... I went to a shop in South Wimbledon and they made it on the spot for me. As a matter of fact they changed my LCD too (they tried to put just the display but apparently there was a "ribbon color" problem). Nevertheless, I got my UNbroken LCD back as well, so now I'll try to sell it and make a bit of money (7o quids for a piece of glass is a bit toomuch, uh?).
Considering that after HOURS of research I had found nothing better than a 169 euro full repair (LCD+glasstop) -in Germany...- I reckon the £70 was not a rip off anyway. I missed a beat when I saw that crack yesterday, and I swore to myself I'd get my baby back in action...with less than 100 pounds. Mission accomplished ;-)
If any of you guys (AND I DO HOPE YOU DON'T) breaks JUST the LCD (but not the glasstop), let me know and we can work out a nice price for both you and me (I have a spare LCD now...And if you read till here you might be in need of one!).
my e-mail [email protected]
p.s. Thanx to the forum I found answers to ALL my queries...but how comes NOBODY before me broke his glasstop?!?Am I the only silly one who made it?? ;-(
ciao guys and thanx for your help anyway (btw: htc europe was USELESS and no, I have no little flower on my girlfreind's sad OLYMPUS camera!)
cracking and hacking are forbidden here in this site, so please dont crack your screen again
70 pounds are really tooooooooo much for a broken peice of glass, but what else can you do? you have to buy it!!! any way, congratulations you have solved the issue finally.

Sorry for your sceen!
Were did you find you "emule" skin?
Thanks
Seb.
I took my phone back to O2, I had no insurance, so i was expecting to have to pay to get it repaired (the girl behind the counter looked at me like i was insane to try and get it fixed "It'll be sooo expensive").
However when I went to pick it up a few days later, they gave me a new one, with new battery, earphones, stylus etc... for free!
The receipt simply said "unrepairable".
You have a great service in europe, I live in an arab country, once you crack your screen here they will say " you have broken your screen to get a new one, but you will never!!!" then they take your mobile to fix it, you wait for 24 months, then they say that they cant find the mobile, so they give you brand-used siemens A-35 mobile instead of the mini s, saying that "they have almost the same features. either accept it or go and kill yourself"
Thats how our companies deal with us!!!
Thank god, you live in europe!!!

Are you in jordan? I cracked, no better yet SMASHEd, the screen on my 9500 about a year ago when i was on summer vacation in Saudi Arabia. I took it to the warranty repair center and i just had to convince them that it was an accident. They gave the device to a very talented philipino guy sitting in a little cubicle, 15 min later, had my device with a new screen. 30 minutes later had traded in the 9500 for a I-Mate Jam(my first windows mobile device).

You are completely right, but do you know why did they do that with you? because you are not arabic guy, you are american. Lets be fair, the service in Saudi arabia is a bit better than the service in jordan, but when an arabic company deals with an arabic customer that cracked his screen, they will crack his head and kick him out of the company office.
Ofcourse, our companies are not as bad as I describe, but it will never happen that you crack your screen and they simply give you a new phone with a new battery, because they feel that they will look stupid.
Thats how our companies deal with us!!!
Hey guys...
Now that my problem is sorted out I am putting the LCD on e-bay.

where can I buy a screen for the Cingular 8125????
Hi. I called the HTC parts number listed above and they say they do not see the LCD screens, but only repair them. I have looked online and can only find 1 site that sells the LCD for the HTC 8125 (www.pdasmart.com) but they charge more for the part than it costs to send the phone in to get repaired!!!!
So far the cheapest way to to replace my screen is to pay $169 and send it in. Does anyone know of a cheaper way to replace my screen???

I presume we are the $169 site that you found. You can also order just the part and receive a 10% discount on the part. There is no warranty when purchasing the part only though. Simply put "part only - 10% no warranty" in the special instructions field of the order.

[Q] Galaxy tab screen broken

Dear all,
Thank you for all the stuff you are sharing right here, that's really great.
I 'm quite sad because a few days ago, my tab felt the glass is badly broken .
Hopefully, the LCD and the touch screen are ok.
Gorilla glass is not that unbeatable so take care of your tabs guys.
I'm searching for a replacement part but as we are kind of early adopters, it's really hard to find ( I tried Alibaba & eBay).
If anyone know where I can find a new replacement front glass for my galaxy tab I would really appreciate to have a link.
Thanks in advance
You have a one year warranty. Call samsung.

Samsung can't do anything if it is physical damage. It's in the manual. That's what insurance is for. Or, if you purchase with Amex, they will refund you after proper paper work.

Cracked Screen on the IO Tab

So today a fan fell over onto my dresser where my Galaxy Tab 10.1 from Google IO was charging and cracked the lower right hand side of the screen. Has anyone else had their screen crack and fixed it or talked to Samsung about it? It seems to still be working, but still, the screen is cracked.
And this happens today, while my case is set to be delivered tomorrow. Damn it.
Try to blame it on this

Did you buy accidental damage warranty..worth the money than having to go through repairing and risking more damage. Hopefully you get it fixed

Try this http://www.missionrepair.com/Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_10_1_s/688.htm
Could be expensive though as replacing the 7" GTab screen costs $180 (yeah I know.. might as well buy a new one or do it yourself). Don't see any digitizer part on ebay yet.

If you purchased it using a credit card many cards will cover accidental damage for 90 days. Check with your credit card company as there are limitations.

How much did they charge you for the screen? Did you replace it yourself? I broke mine today and am looking for a OEM replacement.

need pro advice?

Hi guys I was about to buy galaxy tab 10.1 and came across that many users have this oil mark ... what would you guys suggest me to do ? should I go ahead and buy it ? does this oil mark do some harm to tablet ?
Please any thoughts and advice. I am stuck now and have no idea
had my gt10 for about 2 months, got the rings about a month ago. For me, what matters is not aesthetics but actual use, and when it's turned on you can't see the rings. So I really don't care about them. But, yeah, many people get them and some are bothered by them (to the point of sending it in for repair multiple times). My only real concern with them is the resale value of the tablet, but I'll worry about that later.
raufhon, check your PMs. I sent you one.
so what should I do ? I was thinking to buy galaxy tab 10.1 on ebay. But how can I know if it is not one that was repaired or it wont have those oil spots ?
Damn I am stuck

guys, URGENT advice from you all

Hi, I am going to be traveling to one of the not developed countries to work so I was going to buy galaxy tab 10.1 to use it there. There is no way to return or exchange there so now I got issue.
I was going to get one off ebay or amazon. But I heard about oil slick stuff. That every second pad gets this. So what should I do ? I mean i buy from ebay/amazon and then I get oil slick and my pad worth of 400 or more is useless ?
Please guys, I need to buy this or Ipad 2 in a few days. I would appreciate any help or advice from this community from you all.
Buy it at a local retailer.

BTW, no oil slick on my UK WiFi Tab.
I've never had an oil slick issue. Always, always buy from a retailer.. I've had three and no issues. Get the tab, you won't regret it. I have it and the ipad and the iPad just went up on ebay today.. had enough of it.
but even the people who bought the new ones , are complaining plus at store it is 499$ thats way too much to take a risk... cuz Im gonna go abroad as I said
I have the rings (oil slick). You can't see it when the tab is on, so it's just a matter of whether it bothers you or not. I I personally don't care about mine.

We can provide advice but ultimately it is up to you. I've had mine since it came out (gift from the wife) and haven't had a problem with it, my friend recently purchased a BMW had engine issues on the 3rd week, point being that quality issues can arrive to any product at any time. If your that concerned wait until you return back to your homeland and then make the purchase.

the thing is I am gonna be gone for a year or so
damn I am really confused now. I am obsessed about this tab and now this comes up
I've never had newton ring issues with my Tab. I use it constantly and it travels a lot. I would highly recommend purchasing the Tab and taking it abroad.
what bout suggestion? I was thinking to save up and buy from ebay or amazon... or should I buy at the retailer for this crazy price 499 bucks (WOW crazy)
Buying at retailers doesn't ensure quality. Even some bestbuy stores resell returned items, so go for cheap price.
As for newton rings, even when abroad, if they appear, still the refridge solution should fix the problem.
But really, the choice between an ipad2 and sgt10.1 should be based on your usage needs and OS preferences.
my 2 cents
I suggested buying locally so he can check for newton rings before going abroad. I took my sgt 10.1 to europe a couple weeks ago and got newton rings while I was there. The sgt was in my girlfriends bag and i dont know if something was putting pressure on the screen, but it was there when I took it out. I read on here that blowing in the charge port will get rid of the rings, and it did. I have not seen them since. My case of newton rings was very minor though. It was the size of a nickel.

I'm not sure what you mean. Too big? Too big for what? Regardless of how big they are, you can't see them when the screen is turned on, so the size of the rings doesn't make any difference. Mine are about 5" x 2" and I really don't care about them since they don't affect usability.
It feels like you just want to hear someone to tell you to buy the ipad.... take a gamble or by the sure bet and be mildly disappointed by the limited ios.
Got mine from the source here in Canada about when it was first available.
No rings, I have the standard samsung case.
Durability.......excellent, as a Pilot it gets clunked around in the flight bag lots, I use the S**** out of it, in fact it has greatly extended the battery life of my desire (which spends waaaaay more time in my pocket now!!!).
I personally love it, I see lots of ipads arounf airport terminals with people playing games on them, me I use my tab for email, word, excel, powerpoint, media (watching movies etc), reading rss feeds (greader), an ebook, internet, everything.
As for the price, it's cheaper than an Ipad, thin, portable, what more could you ask for?
Buy it locally, test it the same day and you won't look back.
tab 10.1 vs ipad
have always been an android guy but the service i am getting from samsung sucks
they have refused to fix the newton rings problem ( although it is a manufacturing defect ) blaming it on the fact that i bought my tablet overseas , i went and bought an ipad and never looked back , my samsung tablet has never been used and i am trying to sell it now as i have had enough of samsung service , complained and wrote to all the magazines , to no avail
be careful with this samsung will NOT service yr tablet in the uk if you have bought it overseas
samsung galaxy tab 10.1
there is an inherent manufacturing defect in the screen of the Samsung galaxy tab 10.1, in that it develops an oily slick / newton rings( just google newton rings oil slick galaxy tabs and you will see the extent of the defect ) ,when the tablet has been used for approximately a week , this does not affect all the tablets but around 45-60 pct. are affected , I have written to Samsung uk asking for a change under warranty , they have refused saying that because I bought the tablet overseas they cannot repair it .
I may understand some of that , if it was a warranty claim , however as a manufacturing defect this becomes too much ! , I am NOW trying to assemble as many people as possible to mount a legal case against Samsung uk , as they are refusing to repair any tablet that was bought outside their territory and they have known about that defect for a while now
if anyone is interested please let me know and I will send you my pm
