To keep or return? - Nvidia Tegra Note 7

So I have had this tablet since June. I have enjoyed using apart from a touch screen issue I had since day 1; sometimes when clicking something the screen goes haywire and flickers with the notification bar pulled down and random inputs registered. A simple sleep/wale fixed it. I've disabled prism, factory deserted etc but the problem still exists and has got worse a few days ago.
Since the retailer I bought it from can't offer me a exchange they have offered me a full refund. Should I go ahead?
I can get £100 back when right now this tablet is probably worth a lot less on eBay.
I really like this tablet wish I could have am exchange. So what other 7" tablet can I get with the money?
I'm willing to add up to an extra £80.
I don't see the point in getting an nexus 7?

I was going to suggest you to try some of the chinese tablets, but then I saw in the signature that you own a "Ployer Momo20" tab. I had "CUBE U9GT4" and I enjoyed that tab for almost 1.5 years, that tab was slimmer tan tegra note and had an aluminium body. You can try some Retina resolution 10 inch tab from "PiPO", or visit arctablet.com( admin is very helpful person ) .

I'm guessing the tablet that you have may have some hardware issues. since the seller offers full refund and the tablet is worth much lesser on eBay than what you paid for, why don't you get a full refund and use the money to buy the same tablet off eBay? I can't say for sure that the next tablet will have absolutely no problem, but I guess it's worth a shot since you like the tablet.
Personally I like my hp slate 7 extreme (tegra note variant) a lot since it allows me to get a tablet from a mainstream manufacturer at a low cost. This is important to me because it ensures that the tablet will receive future updates. Even if it doesn't, the developers are here to support us with new roms and stuff. Thanks developers!
I'm always up for trying new gadgets and won't rule out the possibility that there can be better alternatives from Chinese manufacturers, but if few people are using them, it will mean that the information you can find out of the internet is very limited if you encounter any issue with them. Who knows, maybe there is a tablet out there that has the best of both worlds. If you do find it please let us know. Share the love

5 Returned Transformers..

I've been watching this device for a few days now. I've wanted a tablet but can't really rationalize the actual need for it.
I went to Fry's Electronics today in Anaheim, Ca. only to find that their 'STOCK' consisted on 5 opened box 32GB Transformers. No keyboards in stock (Odd) and no 16GBs in stock.
The fact that people are returning them left and right around here has me worried. Granted, the um...indiginous population isn't exactly up to speed with things like roads, traffic laws or lights, or VCRs but hey, someone is buying them bringing them back.
I'm going to wait before I buy one now. I can't seem to get a straight answer on whether or not Google Docs works, if you can edit within the app or the browser.
I assume no one uses these things for business or practical use. Just as toys.
I fought for 2 days to GIVE AWAY 600 bucks for the tablet and keyboard, and fate keeps kicking me down...for good reason I assume.
It's a waste of money, no purpose and no practical application in the business world?
Have I stirred anyone up..wake up!

Except that you did get an answer in your thread here.

Ahh I forgot about that thread.
Well, I edited my OP. Does it not concern anyone that these things are breaking left and right, sleep of death, touchscreens failing...
Unless you're a power user, (not an apple user since it requires basic knowledge of software and the freedom to do what you want to with your purchase of 500 bucks) you're up **** creek without a paddle.
It's almost like people are buying them just to return them...

No worries here..
I *did* have a keyboard doc that 'died' in the sense that the battery stopped charging. Sent it back to Amazon and then ordered a new one.
The TF tablet itself has been flawless. Asus has been doing a great job of keeping the firmware updated - and now has Android 3.1 slated to come out sometime today - so i'm not concerned about any "Day 1" sw issues such as SOD etc.
I haven't experienced any sw issues, but even if I had - it'd be hard to complain too much as quickly as Asus is jumping on these things.
The returns - especially because they're all 32GB - may just be people that placed multiple orders and now they need to return them. They may realize that all they need is 16GB and when their 16GB finally came in they returned the 32GB.
If Fry's is still selling them then I sure as hell would hope that they didn't have any defects.
Seems like the Transformer is not for you. I am very happy with mine. A little light bleed, but less than on the iPad or my Dell 24 inch monitors.
If you can't handle the current state of Honeycomb and apps then get an iPad2 and be happy.
FWIW, I got my transformer at Fry's, a 32 GB unit, with the factory seals intact. I was really surprised they had it in stock.
Light Bleed doesn't really concern me, as that is just "way it is" with phones/tablets.
As far as the current state of honeycomb, it's fine. Your comment is irrevelevent. I'm pro android.
Apple is complete and utter fail. i thought that was clear in my snide remark towards them.. (Apply fangirlz)
The issue with the transformer is the HARDWARE IS FAILING...not the OS. Android rocks.
Android apps rock.
Update today? You say?
Fry's worries me. I returned my first Transformer to Fry's because it was defective, one side of the LCD panel had separated from the glass, there was a inch wide gap the backlighting was visible through and you could push on the glass and see it bending. It was most clearly defective and I showed them the defect. The cashier even took the tablet to someone else and showed them.
Then she comes back, enters "Unwanted" in the computer, and puts a discounted price sticker on it, like they do with a return that was not defective.
So someone is going to get that defective unit.
I did get a second Transformer from Fry's and this one was fine. I'm sure there is a chance something could go wrong with this, but I think it has a one year warranty and I know I'll probably be buying some quad core super tablet a year from now anyway.
just buy a frickin ipad2. If you want a transformer, buy one. If you need to ask, its not for you.

This is how Fry's works.
I bet those five returned Transformers were trashed all to hell, boxed back up to sold again. Only giving a 30 dollar discount on them for being open boxed lol.
It's scary for sure. No one seems to have any new ones anywhere.
Out stock? returned or busted, back ordered.. Sounds like Asus has some work to do.

Go to a forum for any other device. Don't care which one--Apple, HP, Dell, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Motorola, Samsung, etc., etc.--and you'll find just as many reports of issues. This has been discussed ad nauseum on every forum: negative comments far outweigh positive comments. People ***** far more often than they praise.
If you went by what's reported in forums like this one, you'd never buy ANY product. Of course, some vendors do censor their forums pretty heavily, and so if you go to, say, the official Apple forum, you might not find as many complaints. But that's only because they've been deleted and the user very possibly blocked.
Some of the returns you are seeing could be people who have light bleed issues. I see a lot of threads of people complaining about light bleed. I have light bleed but it isn't debilitating enough for me to make the effort in returning it.(In fact, I don't notice it all unless I'm in a pitch dark room and my screen is on max brightness -- a situation that I'm never in) Though some people here have said that they have been through multiple returns hoping for that perfectly lit screen. Also, some people don't like the build quality (which isn't great) but it's not noticeable with a case.
My tablet has not broken down and I use it extensively. (bought it very close to release date) My Xoom lasted 3 days on light use before it started having screen issues.
You can wait for a better tablet but I use mine a lot for reading and media purposes. Obviously, it depends on the individual on how they will use their tablet. I actually get stuff done with mine (read text/pdf's/spreadsheets and watch lectures/webinars/recorded meetings). It's just like a more portable/convenient computer so if you just watch videos and surf the net at home then you're obviously not going to get stuff done on a tablet either. But, if you are work-oriented type of person then you can definitely find use in this. To say that it is worthless for people like me is a bit ridiculous.
That said, for an excel monkey like me, the current excel apps aren't good enough for me to use my TF over my thinkpad. But, it is still great for viewing and small editing purposes.

Don't take comments the wrong way. People are justtired of the "should I buy it" question and "I'm returning mine because...". You just happen to be the 1000th person with this topic so you got the same replies other before have gotten. My advise, go to the store and spend about an hour trying all the tablets: xoom, Acer, Playbook, and TF. Then make a decision. If you need opinions, best to look at old post then to ask to get an idea of what people think. At the end of the day, only your opinion matters more to you.

Haha... one of those open box at the Fry's in Anaheim is one I returned. There was moderate to severe light bleed almost all the way around the screen which was unacceptable to me. Just like someone else already said... the employee tagged it for resale as an opened item and said to me "there's nothing wrong with it". Yeah...
For what it's worth Asus consistently gets high marks on the reliability of it's laptops and are ranked even higher than Apple in that regard. Of course, thats not a tablet, but it shows that in the past Asus products have been reliable. When you're buying a $399 product that has barely any margin you can't expect a whole lot in the way of high priced materials, but that doesn't mean that it won't last. Since all of these units will be outdated in a year or two, and since most people on this forum seem to be early adapters who buy the next great item regularly, I can't see the longevity being a problem for most.
I never purchase anything over 50 bucks at Frys aka swep meet. All they do is re package it and put it back on the shelf.
Yeah when I was keeping an eyes out for stock at my local Fry's (3 stores total).
When one store had it as in stock I kinda waited (not knowing if it was a returned or not. Keep checking and when all 3 stores showed in stock I knew they probably got new shipments in. When I went to the one near me they had 4 new in stock.
well, i'm going on tf #3. 2 returned for defects. i really don't know why i'm even trying a third.
both had speaker balance issues. one had severe bleeding - way more than #1 did. #1 had the frame separation issue and slight bleeding, both of which weren't there on day 1.
hell, i was so sure i wasn't coming back to tf that i sold my dock and skin for $150.
so hopefully #3 will be the one i can finally settle with. i can deal with the speaker balance issue and just a bit of bleed, i'm sure the bleed is a technical limitation.

Returning GT 10.1 !

So i received the tablet today from amazon. Upon arrival i noticed the really poor job of packing on amazon's part. The box was a cheap thing box with not type of padding like bubble wrap or packing peanuts. My question is who in their right mind decided to ship a $500 item under such poor conditions. I've bought books on amazon with better packing than this! So i open the boxes and take out the tablet and attempt to power it on. No Dice! In every unboxing that i have seen online the reviewer was able to power on the tablet no power. So i think to myself, ok let me plug this in so i plug it in and press the power button and i see the galaxy tab 10.1 screen so you would think hooray right? Wrong! it immediately changed to to this weird battery power off screen and it was a cycle it would come on the turn off on and of etc.. so i think leave it plugged in for a half hour. i come back to find the tablet doing the same thing over and over and over again. At this point i'm fed up! so i call samsung and they could offer me no better solution but to leave it plugged in two hours straight and attempt to power it on again... really? so i do as i was told and still no cigar. So i realized that there is not much to do but send it back to amazon in the A.M great now i have to deal with then :/ Oh well i guess i'm getting an Ipad2. I am not a fanboy heck im not a fan oh most apple products but come on a $500 dollar product only to arrive DOA doesnt fly. Over all the tab looked nice its really sleek thin and light but i wasnt all that thrilled with the plastic back for $500 i prefer something a little bit more durable like real metal not faux brushed metal. At the end of the day i don't know who is to blame. Amazon for thier poor packaging or samsung for a poor product i feel that i will be much easier to just go into an apple store pick an ipad up and if i have any problems i can just go back to the store in order to return instead of dealing with two companies with mediocre customer service. When i drop that much money on something i expect it to work point blank.
Why not just pick one up at BB? No shipping involved
May be a bad unit? You can call back amazon and ask them to send a replacement. Ok you had a bad experience but this can happen to any device. If you don't want to deal with online, you can always buy from local best buy store.
If you have already decided to buy the ipad, then good luck.

Since when does Amazon have mediocre customer service? I have nothing but great things to say about Amazon. So you got a faulty product. They'll ship out a replacement and overnight it to you.
When you spend that much money, get it at a local store so ups or amazon or who even doesn't ship it like crap. Sounds like you are just angry you can't simply walk into a local store and exchange it for one of thousands of other perfectly built units...
Lesson learned.
yeah i would of picked it up at BB if it wasn't so cheap on amazon. I live in chicago so Taxes is 10% and out of 500 thats about $50 so its $550 it total. And since im a student i get free amazon prime so i get next day shipping for $4 and amazon doesnt charge taxes so its$504 in total the difference is a pretty big chunk of change in my opinion. I don't know i really want the fastes possible solution because i have a trip coming up so ill talk to amazon tomorrow to see what they can do.

So so call me a troll I think all the major os,s are great and I give everything a chance.
FYI I talked to Amazon and im giving this tab another shot turns out their chat support runs rings around their phone support. So troll on that!

i think the legit truth is that you had 3x bad luck. A. terrible packer, B. non working product, C. a complete noob phone support 1st day worker.
I've been an Amazon prime customer for years. Put a request in online for someone to call you. You get a call from their Customer Service in minutes, and they will resolve the issue immediately. I have done this numerous times, and is also why I'm willing to pay 70 dollars a year for Prime.
You know. It sounds to me like what we actually have here is a guy who was too impatient to hold the button down for the 5 seconds required to start the boot up process.
Try it yourself with your tab. First shut it down. Next press the button for a second. What happens? Nothing, black screen. Do this repeatedly, each time just press the on button for less than a second.
Now get fed up and plug it in. What do you see? The battery icon for a little while then nothing. Press the on button for a second. What do you see? The battery icon which goes away after a little while.
So, OP. If you still have the unit, try holding the on button down for 10 seconds and see what happens. If not, Amazon customer service will be happy to accept it as a return. But please, don't bad rap Amazon or Samsung for this problem until you make sure the problem is not yours.
I had the same problem. In my case it was because the battery was totally drained. After charging for 15 minutes it started up just fine and has worked fine ever since. As for Amazon's packaging, the interior of the Tab's box is so well protected, and the box is so light the packaging isn't a problem.

To be fair, any product of any value will have "some" chance of being DOA. Being DOA doesn't mean it was dead when it left the Samsung factory or Amazon warehouse as it could have died en route (most likely cause as you mentioned the lack of packaging).

Many people said the same thing about the flimsy looking back of the Samsung Galaxy S II. However, I saw this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErXqnQKs-tA and it just goes to show that Samsung really do know how to design products. Although materials may feel lightweight and cheap, I'm fairly sure they'd be robust and reliable. After all, Samsung would incur the cost via warranty repairs if they made it poorer quality so it's probably cheaper for Samsung to use high quality material.
Overall, I do think it is strange for Amazon to provide no packaging protection for an item like this. At the very least, complain to Amazon, they might give you a goodwill gesture coupon/voucher or part refund for the hassle.
Wish some of you immature members would stop calling the OP a troll. No evidence of that. He is just angry and disappointed with the tab. Anyone else who is disappointed should watch out, since we have immature members on this forum that call people trolls out of the blue. Just if I would call those that do just simple minded FanBoys.
you don't even have to call Amazon, just go into your account, choose returns, and choose replacement. They will ship you a new tab overnight (if its currently in stock) And print out a label and drop the old one off at UPS/fedex/usps, whatever carrier they choose.
I get a minimum of 5-10 packages a month from amazon, ive been a Prime member for 3 years at least. Ive seen super expensive items come with the worst packing ever, and some of the cheap items, super secure. I'm not exactly sure why some things are packed better than others. You can go into your account and rate the packaging job on every item you order from them. Anytime something gets damaged I go ahead and do that.

UK Ebuyer returns

So, after a week of using my Nexus 7 the ghosting/image retention isn't getting any better and I've decided that I can't live with it.
My screen is also coming unglued on the left hand side like a lot of people's. I could probably live with this, but it's made me more determined to return it due to te ghosting. Has also made me think it makes sense to wait until it's been properly addressed by Asus/Google.
I'm therefore going to return it to Ebuyer and request a refund. Definitely want to buy another Nexus 7 eventually though as I love the device otherwise.
Has anyone already returned theirs to Ebuyer and, if so, how was the process? Did they argue with you?

Ebuyer return
Trying to return mine at the moment (Light bleeding on left hand side) and it has been fun so far....
1 - Attempted to return as DOA, but the online form said this had expired even though I was well within the time frame
2 - Filled in the normal return form, and entered that I want a refund
3 - Got a response saying that I need to call a number to get approval to return
4 - Called the number, and spoke to someone who said. 'ok no problem, will get that arranged for you - will email the details to you'
5 - The email instructed me to call Asus and discuss the problem with them to get an approval number.
6 - I replied that my contract is with Ebuyer, not Asus, so am not required to call them - Now awaiting their response
I am a long term customer with Ebuyer, and have been very happy with them so far. This is my first return though, and am not liking how this is progressing. When I purchase something from an online store, I expect to be able to return via online methods, not needing to call someone. They are also out of order trying to get me to call Asus - that is not how the sale of goods act works
Will update when I get more info!

I stopped using Ebuyer for exactly that reason some years ago, never a complaint with their prices or speed of delivery but when it comes to returns they will almost always try to shift the responsibility onto the manufacturer and give you the run around unless you put your foot down.
Just submitted my RMA for ghosting and screen separation. I put it down as "fault under warranty", description as "other" from the drop-down boxes and requested a full refund. I received an email saying to ring their local-rate support line. Was on hold for no longer than 5-10 minutes. As soon as I explained the ghosting issue to the rep he authorised it immediately and I now have an email link to arrange a free collection.
I am impressed with the service so far, though I guess the proof will be when the refund hits my bank account. I still have nightmares about the words "Our engineer's tested it and can't replicate the fault" from the dark days of my local IT box-shifter 12-15yrs ago...
Will wait for reports that new devices are fault free before re-ordering.
I buy loads from Ebuyer from work, have returned several things and had no problems.
Ok, they ask questions - who wouldn't? a lot of faults are not faults, they are user problems. So apart from that, which I consider appropriate, I've been perfectly happy with them for years.
Jeff
So, Ebuyer collected my Nexus 7 free of charge last Friday. I included a printout in the box with some good photos of both ghosting and screen lift so that it was obvious why I was returning it.
I received a message today stating "Following extensive tests by our Returns staff, this item was found to be faulty. Therefore a refund will be issued once the RMA has been closed."
Ebuyer certainly get the thumbs up from me this time :good:
I'll no doubt take a ribbing for this, but I've replaced the Nexus 7 with a Blackberry Playbook. Not for everyone I know, but I use a Blackberry Curve extensively at work and it bridges to the Playbook allowing me to access my calendar, inbox and browser on the larger screen. Will be even better on business trips as I have unlimited international roaming. As a result I've found it far more useful throughout the day than the Nexus 7, even though the screen resolution isn't as good, a few apps are missing, and it's a little heavier. £149 for 32gig is also a bargain.
For the avoidance of doubt though, unless you use a Blackberry as your primary phone the Nexus 7 is the better buy and if I ever buy a 10 inch tablet for use around the house 'll seriously consider a Jelly Bean device.

I'm jealous!

We were out having dinner last night, and while using my wife's iPad 2 to check movie times, I realized that the home button was acting up (required extra presses to work). Stopped by the Apple store before the movie, and they replaced it with a brand new one in less than 10 minutes. Apparently, there were only 6 days left on the warranty (we were lucky).
Now, I'm thinking if any of the buttons stop working on my Note 10.1, my only option is to send it to Samsung, right? Has anyone have any experiences with Samsung warranty claims/repairs? Do we pay for shipping the tablet to them? How fast is the turn around time? How helpful do you think they would be, if I were to send my Note 10.1 with a broken power button 6 days before the warranty expires.
iPhone or iPad is not for me (I've had nothing but Android phones and tablets), but I'm jealous about Apple customer care and the ease of the warranty process through Apple stores.
iOS devices are known for that bad home button. I'm also sure your story would be quite different had you gone 6 days later. I can't say I've ever used Samsung warranty but seeing how we don't have any buttons we are constantly pressing, I wouldn't be too worried about it.
I will agree that when you have the coverage, being able to walk into an apple store and get things done right away is always a plus.
I just sent in my galaxy note for the usb issue, i sent it saturday and received it back a week later repIred.
They send in the uk anyway a special delivery bag to packaged it up which is pre paid.
It cost my 75 quid but then i had opened the unit up so expected that

Actually, for everything I hate about Apple, there warranty is great. Back in my iPhone days (yes, I know, WTH was I thinking back then), my wife dropped hers in the toilet. She didn't tell me. She let it dry out and then when the phone kept turning on and off on its own, I went ahead and made an appointment at the Apple store. She was out of warranty by about a month and a half. Took it in, the employee took a look at it, noticed the water indicator marks were shown. He said normally I would have to pay full price for a new phone (this was a 3GS), but instead, went to the back, got me a new one and out the door I went! Paid nothing out of pocket other than picking up a new case for mine that night.
Its not the products of Apple I dislike, its the business model that they entertain.
Don't know about Samsung's warranty department here in the States, but hopefully its nothing like Asus! You want to talk about a abysmal service department, Asus should be at the top of how not to handle warranty and service repairs!

They pay roundtrip 2-day shipping for it to be repaired. They try for a five business day turn-around. If they don't have parts for the repair they'll replace the device.
Also, Samsung is starting to open retail stores in North America. Weirdly, the first one is in Metrotown Mall in Burnaby, BC, Canada (a suburb of Vancouver). I say weirdly because Canada doesn't get anywhere near the full line of Samsung products. They've also been opening Samsung mini-stores in Best Buys in the US.
If they go ahead with a full chain of Samsung stores across North America - there's a good chance they'll implement a 'drop in' service system similar to Apple's.
"Its not the products of Apple I dislike, its the business model that they entertain."
Precisely. Although I do object to the walled garden, as well.
Currently having my Galaxy Note (Phone) repaired and the process is:
1. Call customer service (Helpful and friendly)
2. They send pre-paid envelope in post
3. I send phone
4. They have phone repaired and returned within 10 days.
I too love the idea of walking into a physical store to get a same day replacement, but I too have heard other stories about the Apple customer service. For instance, it is my understanding that under EU law mobile phone manufacturers are supposed to offer a 2 year warranty at no extra cost to the customer. Prior to April this year Apple did not do this and have now been forced to honor their commitment. Before they were forced to do this in April, they were actively selling Apple Care to their customers in order to extend the 1 year warranty they were offering, even though customers were supposed to be covered for 2 years automatically.
So, yes, Apple have got it right in one sense with the physical stores and no quibble returns, but they still put profits before customers (and no I'm not naive enough to believe that Samsung is different, but I haven't found an instance of them blatantly fleece their customers to date).
The best solution for me is to buy products from reputable department stores such as John Lewis, who promise to price match for up to a month after purchase and offer a return policy that says that you can return a product at any point, and I quote:
"Condition of returns
It's important that returned items are in the best possible condition, so please take reasonable care of them and keep all packaging. We don't have a set time limit on returns, but if you change your mind about your purchase, it can make your return easier and quicker to administer if you bring the item back as soon as possible."
I just returned a tablet three months after I purchased it. No quibbles, full refund, and a customer for LIFE!!!
Get a store warranty like black tie from best buy and you can walk in and out easily. I have done this before with out a problem whether its apple or something else. Plus the screen can be broken and it still will be replaced.

Yea it's great that you can walk into an Apple store and get a warranty replacement. The only downside is that when you walk out, you still have an Apple product.
LOL....
I'd be jealous except for the fact iPad is a child's toy and SGN10.1 is an actual tool and adult can use to do work.

What surprises me is that Apple owners don't get that. What surprises me even more is that Apple owners recommend their pads as a serious drawing tool. Huh?
Yes there is no doubt Apple support service is great two reasons for that they are an American company and thats expected second reason is their around 40 - 45% profit margins on the products

Obviously, without a Wacom digitizer, the drawing/inking is not comparable to the Note series (or any other device with a digitizer). However, I'm against the idea of the "iPad is a toy for children, and SGN10.1 is a tool for adults" cliche. Many places (e.g., schools, hospitals, etc.) use iPads for productivity and nobody is suffering from "this is just a toy, I wish I had one with a stylus to be more productive". Yes, SGN has its strengths, but dismissing the competition as "toy" won't get you far as reflected by their market share. If you take the digitizer away from SGN10.1 (i.e., make it a Tab2 so to speak), would that make it a "toy" as well?
At the end of the day, the apps are the reason for productivity (not the OS itself), and almost everything I have on my SGN10.1 (aside from the stylus-centric apps) also exist on my wife's iPad and she's never suffered from lack of productivity (she hasn't played 1 single game on her iPad except for Sudoku, by the way) while using her iPad at home or at work.
When we were discussing W8 tablets and the advantage of having MS Office before they were released, Barry had a great point that a good portion of iPad owners are high income professionals, and they never suffered from a lack of a "true" Office suite for the iPad. Does that mean that they only use it for playing games and updating FB status? Far from it.
I guess we are just open-minded people. I have a Windows8 desktop, a Macbook Pro and a SGN10.1, my wife has an iMac, a Macbook Pro and a Samsung Note II (which replaced a Nokia Windows phone), and my son uses his Nexus 7, my SGN10.1 and his mother's iPad interchangeably. If the device(s) fit our needs, we don't care who makes it or who loves/hates it.

I highly doubt that Samsung is making anything less than that from the Note series (or Asus with the Transformer line for that matter). The only devices that are sold at or near cost are the ones backed by an ecosystem to pull customers in for future purchases (e.g., Kindles, Nook tablets, etc.).

IMO only, what makes the iPad less than a true productivity device is the hobbling by Apple. If it were more open, and had more features I would consider one. As it stands though, after thorough investigation, and using a friend's, I realized I would never be happy, even if it was jail broken. Apple has a long way to go to get my $. It is so widely used because of marketing and the fact that anyone can use it, even a child.
Again, this JMO.
Samsung do have some service centre plazas where you can get the products repaired whilst you wait, mainly in the bigger cities. With the growing popularity of Samsung more and more plazas will be opening throughout the UK.

Broken Screen - Options to fix?

I didn't see this thread anywhere, and I am new here, so please don't kill me if it is in fact somewhere...
I dropped my Nexus 10 last weekend and can't seem to find anywhere that can fix it or carries the screen/digitizer. Samsung wants $260 to repair which is absolutely absurd.
I sent to a place to get fixed but they just informed me that they can't get the part and it's backordered everywhere. I'm leaving for two weeks overseas and am about to make an impulse buy and go back to an iPad if I can't get this fixed anywhere...
Thanks in advance
I may be a bit late with this, but have you considered replacing the screen on your own?
Depending on what's broken (the screen, digitizer, or both), find and buy that and fix it.
Now seeing that a Nexus 4 screen+digitizer+front plate combo (directly from LG) costs ~80$, it seems 260$ is about the right price for the Nexus 10...

Tablets and smartphones are the only devices that I can say purchasing Square Trade or other accidental damage warranty might be a wise decision.
The display is the single most expensive part of the tablet, so expect it to be costly even if you do perform it yourself.
If you can't get it repaired and do get an iPad, remember they break as well. So a purchased warranty for that tab might also be a good idea.
